Alcohol Basics...
So, today is my 19th birthday, and since I live in Canada that means I can drink! The funny thing is that I really don't know where to start buying since I'm not much of a drinker. Can anyone tell me what the makings of a good basic liquor cabinet are?
I've already got vodka and Kahlua... but I don't know where to go from there!

something that goes really well with vodka and kahlua are creme de banane and milk. it's called a monkey's lunch (or monkey's launch, i've seen it spelled both ways). also, if you're going to be entertaining friends, you should figure out what they like to drink. always have rum on hand so if someone just wants a rum and coke, you have it.

Well Im 31 and I have never had a liquor cabinet lol. However, from the ones I have seen, you might consider things like scotch, cognac, martini, gin, rum, tequila and so on. I think that together with what you have that should cover all the basics.
However, like the person below said, see what your acquinatances like. If you know your friends absolutely adore some weirder stuff, like say Romanian palinca or Danish snaps or whatever, then you might want to stock up on that :)

Well it depends. Typically the liquor cabinet tends to reflect the prefered choices of the people whom are there drinking. If you have friends over a lot and you know what they like then you should stock up on those things. If its mainly for you then you have to know what kind of drinks you like. If you dont really know yet what other people are going to want to drink just get the basics. Some Rum (captain morgan)Tequila (Jose quervo gold!) you already have the vodka so your covered there, Some Southern Comfort is always good with a little lime juice if you wanna do some shots, oh and apple pucker YUM. So that's pretty much it, the rest is just stuff you add to the drinks, if your gonna have a party just make sure you got coke, cranberry juice, orange juice and wahtever else you like. Hope this gives you some idea, there are so many options that it would take forever to list, so stock up have fun and be safe.
