about

Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

In literacy we are doing a descriptive essay in which we are describing our room. My first paragraph needs some help and i've got nobody home to help.
heres the paragraph

My Room
The typical teenage bedroom can be quite horific. The smell that hits your nostrils from the sweaty track clothes and smelly socks. The crumbs from several week old poptarts swim between your toes, and you'll most likely trip over the blankets which are scattered about from last nights slumber party and the tubes of lip stick along with nail polish bottles. Like i said that can be the typical teenage bedroom, and so from that, I can say i don't fit into that cateogory. I'm actually quite different than explained.

please fix the like 2,3,4 senteences. they are like run-ons and i can't fix them. please help!

Hmm, how is this?

The typical teenage bedroom can be quite horrific. The smell that hits your nostrils from the sweaty track clothes and smelly socks. The crumbs from several week old poptarts swim between your toead, and you will most likely trip over the blankets which are scarttered about from last nights slumber party. The tubes of lip stick along with nail polish bottles, makeup everywhere, yes, this is the typical female teenage bedroom. Luckily, I am one who does not fit into that category. I am actually quite different than explained.

^That isn't perfect, I know it isn't. Remember when writing a paper, stay away from contractions. Do not use "don't, can't, won't, isn't..." I tried to end the run on and create a new sentence, but I didn't know how to end it, so they sentence may not be up to your standards.

May I ask your age/grade? Mainly because this is (in my opinion) a great opening paragraph.

I'm not sure if you need a thesis, but if so, there is probably one in there somewhere.

I hope I helped you out.

---EDIT EDIT EDIT---

Oh, you don't start doing thesis statements until around 9th and 10th grade. I didn't know what a thesis statement was up until this year (and I'm in the 10th grade) So don't worry about it.

would it be safe for a kid to go on the low carb diet?

Most diets are not safe for kids. Though it depends on the age, height, weight. All that stuff. Probably not, but it depends on the age of the child. If by kid you mean a teenager, it might be okay, but definitly not for anyone under the age of thirteen. If you or someone you know under the age of thirteen wants to lose some weight, just have them eat healthier and excercise more. I am telling you, you will NOT lose wieght (in a healthy way) unless you excercise.

What does "friends with benefits" mean

It means that you can do whatever you want, but you aren't dating. You can have sex, make out, feel up, all sorts of sexual things together with no uhh, connections. You're just friends. You aren't dating, you can have "fun" whith whoever you want without having to feel guilt or without having the title of "cheating" on them. You can look it up at www.urbandictionary.com I'm at school right now, so certain sites won't work, otherwise I would look it up for you. But I've known the meaning for years now, that's why I'm still able to answer.

Friend with benefits can be fun, but can also hurt you. The point is having no emotional connections, but in most cases, one out of the two parties involved becomes emotionally attached. It's not the best thing, but if you don't want to be in a relationship, it's what you do. I personally don't believe in it, but it's up to whoever wants to have a friends with benefits relationship.

Hello,

I'm just wondering what is the normal weight for a 4'9 age 13 girl? I'm 80 pounds, so is that average...?

Well I can tell you that you're underwieght. I checked your BMI at www.am-i-fat.com. And you should be between about 85-90 and about 110-113.

Your best bet is to try and get up in the 90s. Or ATLEAST gain about 5-6 more lbs. It doesn't even have to be fat. It can be muscle, muscle does in fact weigh more than fat. Maybe life a few weights a few times a week. Or jog a mile a day or something.

But yeah, you're underweight, gain 10lbs and you'll be fine.

do your parents HAVE to stay in the room with you when you get a check-up? it's EXTREMEMLY embarrasing when he docotor looks at me and i dont need it to be even MORE with my parents and sister in there. can anyone tell me anything to help me feel like humiliated??? i'm going today..

Nope, lucky for us "kids". Yeah, most everybody's parents feel the need to accompany us into the doctors office. That's fine and dandy until we get older. I understand what you mean that it's embarassing. When my dad takes me, he'll wait in the waiting room until I come get him to pay. My mom is a little more stubborn, she feels the need to embellish a little bit, which annoys me. My dad will let me answer the questions, I just don't like having him there because well, I'm a girl and it's weird. hahaha.

But anyway, just ask your mom if she wouldn't mind waiting in the waiting room. I'm sure she wouldn't. She probably feels that you would want someone back there with you.

how do you determine the right weight for a certain hight/weight?

im 14, 4'11" and 110 pounds

thx

am-i-fat.com

They have a BMI calculator and everything that will tell you what you want to know. They tell you how to loose weight, they tell what type of diets would be good.

Ohh, also, visit MyPyramid.com

That's a good site for this kinda stuff.

sorry dont know what catagory this was. this is kind of embarssing. im a 13/f. i've been on my period for 2 years. and after first period was over i took off my pad and in a couple of hours i'd have moist on my underwear. i dont think its pee. so i keep a pad on all the time. i have to buy pads all the time. i told my mom once. she said it was ok. but please help i cant keep buying more pads all the time. sorry its kind of a gross quesion.

It's discharge. Just wear pantyliners. It's really no big deal, every girl gets it and you have it for a long time. I don't know if it ever stops. But yeah, just buy pantyliners, they're thinner versions of pads and cheaper. You can get them scented too, because well, sometimes discharge can smell REALLY bad haha.

But yeah, it's nothing bad, evey girl gets it, and panty liners are a cheap and easy way to keep it from getting all in your underwear.

---ADDITIONAL INFORMATION---

Well I know you can get them at wal-mart
And wal-mart is like EVERYWHERE haha. But you can probably get them at CVS, Target, any place that has pads will most likely have panty liners.

If someone erases their question, does the feedback they gave you still count? Thanks in advance.x0

Nope, if they erase the question, the feedback will stay unless you've checked the box on your profile settings (or column settings) that says otherwise.

What's this song? It go's like this:

"It's cold tonight and the clouds turn grey..something something my brothers grave you took his gift."

Thats all I remember it was on my friends brothers sterio and it sounded wicked awsome.

Thanks. I'll rate anyone a 5 who knows it!

Avenged Sevonfold - Chapter Four

Awesome song by the way. I looked up the lyrics for you, I know a lot of them, but not all so I got these one off of a lyrics site. If I got the wrong song, then I have NO idea what song you were talking about.

(Give me your hand,
blood is spilt and man will follow
infernal man, punishment too great to bear)
Conceived and born was one of light
Rain and dark, the other born black night

Raise your head and taste the courage
(the one of light)
Fall from grace, unholy night

I've come here to kill you,
won't leave until you've died
Murder born of vengeance,
I closed my brothers eyes tonight...

[Repeat from the beginning]

It's cold tonight as the clouds turn grey
and from my hands to my brothers grave
You took his side, you took his gift,
feel the power of a fallen man,
crestfallen man...

Far away in this land I must go,
out of the site of the One.
A punishment sent from his hand
a hardship that no one should know
Now go out of the site of the One,
away in this land you must go.

Where has he gone? What have you done?
A voice commands from high above this earth.
From the soil his blood cries out to me
Murder, liar, vengeance, deceit.

Far away in this land I must go,
out of the site of the One.
A punishment sent from his hand
a hardship that no one should know
Now go out of the site of the One,
away in this land you must go.
[Fade out]

I'm 5'8, 158 pounds, 15 years old, not active at all.

On this coming monday, im starting a diet which will hopefully help me lose 1 or 2 pounds a week, but I need to know if it will work. Here is my daily plan:

Breakfast: Honey bunches of oats cereal, 1% Milk
Lunch: Fruit salad, water
Supper: Anything my mom makes (healthy)

I will also be running on the treadmill for about 20 minutes at 4m/h. I've sort of been using the calorie-counting method.

Anyways, will I lose weight with this, or is it a waste of time? What can I change?

Eating healthier, excercising. There is nothing more that needs to be changed. That is all you can do to loose weight. I've heard of honey bunches of oats, but I don't know the health factor, it sounds healthy though. And always drink water with meals.

Possibly what you could do is maybe run a little more. Maybe a total of thirty minutes, but split into 10 minute intervals.

I'm in a foods and nutrition class, and we've learned how to calculate all this stuff. The only thing that I can remember off the top of my head is that you should excercise for 30 minutes at least 3-4 times a week. But that it's okay if you split it up into 10 minutes intervals.

So, if you have time, 10 minutes after breafast (you want to be nourished while excercising) Then 10 minutes after lunch, well, if you have school, then eat a small snack such as a banana or something when you get home, then run for 10 minutes. And then after dinner you can run for another 10 minutes.

Don't forget to include about 2 snacks. A snack after lunch, and a snack after dinner unless you eat late.

I would suggest not eating or drinking anything other than water about 2 hours before going to bed. I don't recall the reason, but a lot of people say something about not being very active before going to bed so it makes you gain while you sleep. I'm not sure, but I just know lay off the sweets and anything high in calories before bedtime.

----EDIT----

Because I don't have my school stuff with me at this moment, I won't be able to answer your additional information completely, but I do have some stuff to add.

I know some people who like to dunk celery in peanut butter, I also know people who like to dunk apples in peanut butter. If you like either, then I suggest doing that. It's a decent way to get protien. Also, there are healthy meats out there as long as you cut as much fat off as you can. Also, don't think McDonalds is a way to get proteins. I have a friend whose mother is a manager there, she works there too. Well, she told me that one cheeseburger meal is enough calories for the day, one big mac (or whopper, or well you know, the bigger things) could even get to a weeks worth of calories (if you eat the fries too)

I'm not sure about the calories thing, but like your calorie counting thing. But if you could wait until Thursday, I plan on staying after school, and I feel more comfortable around a different foods teacher than the one I have, so if she'll stay for a little bit, I could get her opinion if you reask this question to my inbox and can wait until Thursday for a response. It's up to you, I know you've gotten other answers and may not need and more, so if you can wait until Thursday and want a foods/nutrition teachers opinion, copy and paste this question to my inbox.

does braces hurt when you get them put on and when they take them off...thanx

Well, my braces are still on, so I'm not sure about the taken off part. My sister said that it didn't hurt her much. Just them pulling at them to get them off. (well not pulling, but using their equiptment makes it feel lije they're pulling. My orthodontist needed to remove one of my braces so I could get something done, and it didn't hurt, it just felt like she was trying to pull it off.

Anyway, getting them on was NOT a big deal. It is sore a few hours later because you're aren't used to having all of your teeth moving, espcecially at the same time. I didn't take any pain medicine, and I am one person who usually can not handle pain.

Getting your braces tightened is probably the most painful though. Not the process, just afterwords. Also if you get thicker wires put in. Tightening them makes them move a little bit faster which can bother your mouth, it's not really pain, just soreness. But when my orthodontists put thicker wires in my braces, that's when I started taking the pain medicine. It made my mouth very sore and I had problems eating for a day or two, so I could only really eat puddings and stuff like that.

I've had my wires out for like almost a month because I had to get work done on my teeth and I missed my last appointment, I'm going on Tuesday to get thicker wires in, and after not having wires in for a while, I will tell you my mouth is going to be in major pain.

I'm not telling you this to scare you, just to inform you.

It's not that the braces themself hurt. You get used to them after a day or two. The second I got home after getting them put on, my neighbor called me to babysit and I was fine.

The soreness doesn't last more then a day. And it's just because your teeth are getting used to moving. Trust me, it's no big deal.

Oh, and while they're putting them on, it's not sore, it's not painful, it's not anything. Just your jaw may be a little sore from having to open wide for over an hour straight. :)

Braces are one thing I know about, I've had mine for about a year and a half.

i have been getting discharge for about 6 months, and i asked waht it was when i first started getting it. i was told that it means that i am going to get my period soon. but it has been a half a year and i still dont have my period. why is this and when will i get it? and please don't say, "oh you are so lucky not to have your period don't worry about it it will come when it comes it isnt something you want." because that is not my question. my question is why i haven't gotten it even though i have been getting discharge for a long time, and when will i get my period.

Just having the discharge doesn't mean your period is coming any time in the near future. It just means it's coming. It could take up to a year from the first time you experience discharge before you get your period. Since you've had discharge for about the past 6 months, it should be coming soon, possibly not for another 6 months, possibly next month. You never do know.

And once you get your period it will be VERY irregular. The first year I had my period, I don't think I actually got it more than 3 or 4 times. It's insane. But it sucks to be on it. Well actually it isn't that bad unless you have a really heavy flow.

But anyway, for now I would suggest that you wear pantyliners so the discharge doesn't get all in your underwear because that's gross and it can smell bad too.
Plus they're helpful because if you do start your period at school, at least it won't be completely in your udnerwear and the pantyliner will have absorbed some of it. The first time I had my period I was wearing one, and it was so light that nothing got in my underwear. Talk about lucky or what.

Anyway, if you have any more questions feel free to inbox me. :)

Does anyone know how do get a cute layout/backround for your advicinator columns? I'll give you a fiveee. thanks

http://www.advicenators.com/backgrounds.php

There are over 300 pages of background you can search from.

If you don't like any of those, then I used to go to this one site, I can't remember the name of it though.

Your best bet is to either seach on google for premade layouts, or for picture of something you would want your background to be. Then copy the URL and paste it according to the directions on the link I gave you, here they are...

Find the background you want to use
Highlight the text in the box and use the Edit -> Copy or ctrl+C option to copy it
(for that step, copy the link)
Visit your column settings page. (be sure you're logged in)
Paste the background URL in the "bg1" or "bg2" option boxes and hit save.

if your pee is really yellow does that mean you dont have enough to drink, or is it the other way around?

The darker your urine is the more dehydrated you are.

what does being emo mean?

Well emo is an abbreviation for emotional. But some people use the term in somewhat rude ways. Honestly, just because you're emo does not mean you cut your wrists, and does not mean you're punk or gothic. It just means that you're an emotional person and that you listen to music and enjoy hobbies have the something to do with highly emotional feelings.

Here is a link to the way urban dictionary defines emo. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=emo

I would have tpyed it all out (well copy/paste) but it was quite long seeing that there was more than one definition, so I just gave the link, I hope you don't mind.

I'm 15, female, and I have a terrible sweating problem. No matter what the temperature, how many layers I have on, my under arms will constantly sweat. I have very sensitive skin, and I can develop allergies to most things heavily scented.

Is there any good deoderant I can use to help my problem?

Well I don't sweat nearly as badly as you make it sound that you do, hut I know what it's like, and it's gross and it sucks when it happens to you. :)

One deoderant that I've used in the past and found that, personally, it worked extremely well was Arid Extra Dry. It doesn't have a scent (at least the one I used, so the allergy problems, shouldn't be too bad) I used to use dove, but it plain out sucks. There is honestly no point it trying it, Dove does not work at all, for me or my friends. Currently, I'm using Secret. It's working fine for me, I have a scented version, but you can get unsented. I would most definitly suggest arid or arid extra dry. Both have worked wonders for me.

If even those don't help you at all then you might want to talk with your doctor. As silly as it seems there are sweating "diseases" I use the term disease lightly beacuse disease (to me) means serious. I guess the word I should use in place of disease would be condition. Yes, that sounds right, there are such things as sweating conditions. Where some people sweat more that the average person. Doctors can give you prescription deoderants, and you never know, maybe that's what you need.

Hope this helps you out. :)

how do people on here make their advice collumns fancier, like i dont mean the background but some people have their box about them at the top and they dont have the 4 boxes at the top saying feedback and stuff up there and things like that

All you have to do is change your layout. Some people are REALLY just amazing with computers and can find all these codes to make their columns different. I'm sure if you searched a while you could too. Also, users with paid accounts are allowed to make their own layouts.

As you your additional information, the answer is no. Unless you have amazingly, fantastically, awesome computer skills and can get around the site codes, then no. Most users on the site did not enjoy going to other peoples columns and trying to read their advice while unstoppable music was playing. Slide show, there could be a possibility, but a lot of html is disabled, so I doubt it.
