I have braces and my teeth only ache. Just make sure you tell them if they havent cut the wire short enough otherwise it will digg in to your gum. And make sure you have some type of cream or the waz you are given to use on your lips cause for the first few days the braces will rub againest your lip and that can get sore.

i promise you will be fine

Trust me, they do not hurt AT ALL while you are getting them put on. When the orthodontist started gluing the brackets on I thought "When is he going to put the braces on?" and I just sat there for an hour with the cheek stretcher thing and when I got up and I looked in the mirror I thought "Whoa! I have braces!". I am usually not a person who can handle pain, but it was 100% painless for me. You won't feel a thing, trust me. About 2-3 hours after they are applied, your gums should feel a little sensitive (kind of like when you had teeth growing in) especially when you try to chew food that's too hard. This should go away within a matter of days. And besides, It'll be worth it in the end when you have beautifully straight teeth.

ForfeitYourDream answered Friday March 24 2006, 9:57 pm:
I wouldn't decribe it as painful, but it certainly makes your mouth sore after they put them on and after tightenings. When they come off, it doesn't hurt, but your teeth will feel slimy....kind of nasty, but you'll have straight teeth! :]

The first day you get them on they dont hurt but when you wake up the next morning they will feel very sore. Just eat ice cream and take lots of advil. Don't worry though the pain usually goes away in like 5 days or so. And for how long they will be on it really depends on who your dentist is and how crooked your teeth are. The average person usually has them on for 1 1/2 to 2 years. Good luck and it's not that bad. And remember it's worth it in the end! <3

braces kind of hurt when you put them on but it depends how they do it and who does them. When they take them off it doesn't hurt but it tickles a little when they take the glue off your teeth.

when they're actually putting them on (the process), it might be a little uncomfortable but won't hurt. however, the next day and for a while you may get ulcers in your mouth and the braces will prob hurt you (wax can help with that, your orthadontist can explain it to you). when you get them taken off, it might feel weird and they do blow cold air on your teeth but i didn't find it painful and most people dont. <3 hope i helped!

S_C answered Friday March 24 2006, 8:17 am:
Well, my braces are still on, so I'm not sure about the taken off part. My sister said that it didn't hurt her much. Just them pulling at them to get them off. (well not pulling, but using their equiptment makes it feel lije they're pulling. My orthodontist needed to remove one of my braces so I could get something done, and it didn't hurt, it just felt like she was trying to pull it off.

Anyway, getting them on was NOT a big deal. It is sore a few hours later because you're aren't used to having all of your teeth moving, espcecially at the same time. I didn't take any pain medicine, and I am one person who usually can not handle pain.

Getting your braces tightened is probably the most painful though. Not the process, just afterwords. Also if you get thicker wires put in. Tightening them makes them move a little bit faster which can bother your mouth, it's not really pain, just soreness. But when my orthodontists put thicker wires in my braces, that's when I started taking the pain medicine. It made my mouth very sore and I had problems eating for a day or two, so I could only really eat puddings and stuff like that.

I've had my wires out for like almost a month because I had to get work done on my teeth and I missed my last appointment, I'm going on Tuesday to get thicker wires in, and after not having wires in for a while, I will tell you my mouth is going to be in major pain.

I'm not telling you this to scare you, just to inform you.

It's not that the braces themself hurt. You get used to them after a day or two. The second I got home after getting them put on, my neighbor called me to babysit and I was fine.

The soreness doesn't last more then a day. And it's just because your teeth are getting used to moving. Trust me, it's no big deal.

Oh, and while they're putting them on, it's not sore, it's not painful, it's not anything. Just your jaw may be a little sore from having to open wide for over an hour straight. :)

Braces are one thing I know about, I've had mine for about a year and a half.

It depends on why you're having braces. If you have overbite, the braces will hurt more than if you're just having braces to straighten your teeth. Also, the older you are when you get them, the more it hurts.

For me, it wasn't too bad when I got the braces on, the worst was when I had to wear elastics and the retainer after the braces were taken off.

Once you get them, they will hurt for a while. I'm not sure if they hurt once you take them off, but think of how great your teeth will look so all the pain would be worth it! =D

FREEZEPOP answered Thursday March 23 2006, 11:26 pm:
At first the braces hurt. They put spacers and your mouth and that makes your mouth really sore for a little while. Braces will hurt for about the first three days you have them. I hear it hurts when you get them off too.

yes, it does hurt a lot when you get them on, but if you take a pain killer it will help. I haven't gotten them off yet, so I don't know if it hurts, but I have been told that it does...

the worst part of braces is the spacers if u have to have them... your teeth and gums are kind of soar but it never really hurts that bad it just akes a while to get used to them, both when you get them on and off.
