It depends. First you should go to your doctor to ask if the kid is a healthy weight or not. If the kid is obese or overweight, you can. I dieted from 4-6th grade because I was overweight. I was 4'11'' and 140 pounds. It was okay for me because I would have become obese. My advice is don't go on a low carb diet...go to a kid's nutritionist so she/he can tell you what to eat. Hope this helped!

No it would not- especially if you are in the middle of or haven't started going through puberty yet. Your body needs all macronutrients to grow at this vital time. Don't take what you read in magazines and advice you get from "medical or dietary experts" too seriously. Your body cannot grow or function well when you deprive or severely limit it of it's main energy source.

It would depend on the diet. I think a lot of kids get way too many carbs, so in essence it would not hurt to cut some of those out. Many foods that contain carbohydrates are empty calories anyway. Cutting out things such as sugared cereal, potato chips, cookies, candy, soft drinks and deep fried breaded foods would not hurt any of us.

Instead only eat the good carbs which would be whole grain breads, fiber rich (unsweetened cereal) enriched pasta, juice, fruits, some potatoes such as baked.

By the way dieting is not a sign of laziness. Follow the recommendations on the food pyramid and you'll be fine.

Yes, but they do need some carbs, so don't cut them out completley.

No. Unless a doctor says otherwise for a person, low-carb diets are not good. Carbs are not bad. The fad of low-carb is a mark of laziness.

Hmm, as some have said already, I would strongly suggest against it. Common sense - childhood is when you grown the most, and even teenage years. So to restrict or limit the amount or type of food a child has is not a good idea. Kids really do need a lot of everything, carbs, protien, calcium, fats, etc. Hope that helped.

I would think it depends on your weight && height..If your over weight then i don`t see why it would be a bad idea.. Maybe ask your doctor..

Most diets are not safe for kids. Though it depends on the age, height, weight. All that stuff. Probably not, but it depends on the age of the child. If by kid you mean a teenager, it might be okay, but definitly not for anyone under the age of thirteen. If you or someone you know under the age of thirteen wants to lose some weight, just have them eat healthier and excercise more. I am telling you, you will NOT lose wieght (in a healthy way) unless you excercise.

In my low carb diet book, (I did it for four months) it says it is not recommended for kids under 12 years old to low carb!

For info on low carb diets, I'm the person to ask because I have a lot of experience. Feel free to send something to my inbox!

Any diet is potentially dangerous for a kid, because they're growing so quickly. So it's a good idea (at any age) to talk to your doctor FIRST. She or he will be able to tell you the right, safe thing to do.

Good luck!

I honestly wouldn't think so. A child needs a well rounded diet. Why not just use a low calorie diet?
