I got an offer to start babysitting but I have a probllem. Its really stupid but, Ive seen the commercials to "When A Stranger Calls" the new horror movie about the girl babysitting. Im afraid that when I babysit a) IT WILL HAPPEN.. or b) Ill be too freaked out and the kids will get scared, or I wont be able to take care of them because Im too scared. It will also be my FIRST time babysitting. What can i do to make myself feel safer?!

1.) That movie isnt new, its a remake of the original made in 1979 with Carol Kane (Basically it like all modern horror killer movies is a bite off of 1978's Halloween) It is based on nothing but another movie (Halloween) that is also just fiction. They say its based on a true legend to scare you and come see the movie. I had to throw that in lol

2.) Its just a movie and that stuff doesn't happen that often if at all. Most crime that occurs with a house such as burglary and break ins occur in the daytime when no one is home. Most murderers already know their victims when they kill them. It's just Hollywood fulfilling their whole idea of planting the thought in your head from their movie

3.) To make yourself feel safer, keep everything outside well lit, all doors and windows locked and if there is a home security system, turn it on. Keep your phone near you at all times. Don't worry, you'll be fine lol

I usually sleep really well, but last night I didn't fall asleep until 2 o clock in the morning. I don't know why. I think it might've been because I was talking to this one guy and I really didn't want ot sign off and go to bed but I had too. So i was thinking about him and stuff and I couldn't sleep.
Does anyone have anything that might help me sleep?

Dont stay up so late for one and a warm glass of milk for its Melatonin value

okay well i am on a diet and ive only been drinking water and 2% milk but are there any other drinks out there that are okay for me to drink besides like diet pop (under 80 calories and 10g of sugar per 8 oz.)

and i dont like orange juice (i think that fits under my thing)

Good on the water, theres nothing better for you in the world. If you really are dieting then I would suggest fat free or skim milk over 2%. I really dont ever recommend too many varying drinks to the people I train as this can sometimes confuse the body chemistry. Diet soda is GARBAGE no matter what Coca-Cola or their label says. People read the nutrition facts and neglect the ingredients. If you must switch drinks I would stick with Crystal Lite or preferably unsweetened iced tea (if you must sweeten it, use Splenda)

On what your doc said...dont do it anyway. No soda is good for you no matter what anyone says.

Alright, I'm 17/m and I shaved my chest and stomach (left the happy trail, as girls call it, there).

The problem is I have red bumps now because I've irritated my skin. The bumps have been there for over a month.

I'm sure they'd go away if I stopped shaving, but I'm looking for an alternative.

Try to not shave as often if you are shaving now. When I shave my body, I do it about every 5-6 days and use plenty of moisturizer all the time. Try putting baby oil on your skin immediately after you get out of the shower.

okay so im 16/f/ 119 pounds/ 5'1"/ some what active and somewhat healthy eater (play softball, dance, and in a school musical)

anyway. ive started doing workout mode am burning atleast 300 calories a day doing that. how can i tell how many pounds a day/week that is? is there a site that can tell me or does anyone know? it doesnt have to be exact just a ruff estimate

(and if you have no the slightest idea please dont take a guess)

All you really have to do is find your BMR (Basil Metabolic Rate) by multiplying your bodyweight x 15 which will give you your approximate maintenance total. To lose weight simply subtract between 300-700 calories from this in your daily diet. Its not as complicated as a lot of people make it.

I am a 14 year old female who is recently living with my father by force. My father took me from my mother about 5 months ago because he read my little cousins diary that said i was doing drugs with my mother which is not true. my mother is desperatly trying to get me back but she has little money. I feel that I am becoming more and more of a danger to myself everyday here. there is no physical abuse but there is neglect. I am running away before the end of feburary and I need a SAFE place to go so that I am not on the streets. I am having problems finding a place to go many shelters will only hold me for 24 hours but i need more time than that. So I am asking advice on where i should go as a 14 year old female who is possibly suicidal. I have no transportation so i am also asking for advice on that.

In suicide nobody wins and Running away is going to make this process worse. You are away from your mother in the 1st place because the courts believe your bad behavior is from her influence..so you will not only make yourself look bad but your mother too and dig yourself deeper into a hole. My advice- sit tight and wait until there is a custody hearing, I do believe you're old enough to go before a judge and say who you believe you would be better living with. Cops don't listen because there is nothing they can do for you, there is no probable cause for them to act upon anything. Your best bet is to forget your friends and your teachers and everyone else you may talk to and show emotion and need in front of the only person that it matters to right now- the Judge.

In response to your feedback- yes you should be on your best behavior. Don't do anything radical and just play it smart. Good Luck with everything.

what are some teen/women workout magazines/fitness magazines besides shape and self? i love both of those, but what other ones are out there?

Those magazines are filled with a little information and a lot of advertising. With fitness too much knowledge can be a dangerous thing. The trick is a little bit of knowledge and a lot of enthusiasm.

Hello, I'm starting to work out not because I think I'm fat, but because I would like to stay in shape.

Anyway I have extremely muscular legs, especially my calves. Since they are muscular it makes my legs look fat.

Is there anything that I can do to lose some muscle in my legs and not make them that bulky?

Thank you for any help.

Why would you want to do that? I guarantee you dont train anywhere near hard enough to produce any real growth in your legs and that you're not a competitive bodybuilder who actually may have enough muscle on a body part to make something else look uneven from this question... so my advice- Blast your legs. Why would you want to lose muscle in the 1st place? Come on get real and Get Serious, train like you really want to achieve something and dont pick and choose- Just do it.

My best friends dad emailed the school hers, mine, and our friends websites to our school! My website only had cussing so it wasn't that bad. Their websites had threatning on it and they got taken out of school today by the Cops. But do you think he had the right to invade my privacy? Also my mom is disconnecting my internet (so she says), getting me mental help (for no reason) and she lets on like she is going to send me to a christan school!! So my teacher fowarded our websites ALL over school! To every teacher! Did she have a right to do that!? I need serious advice!

Yep he had the right to. The internet isn't private and Remember that the 1st Amendment doesn't say "freedom of Speech" the way most think of it. it says CONGRESS SHALL PASS NO LAW that bars freedom of speech, its not a ticket to say whatever you want no matter how offensive or demeaning it may be.

okay so i'm almost 5'4 and i weight about 134 pounds.

i really want to lose ten pounds by spring break in april, i know i can do it i just need some tips and / or advice.

my routine is going to consist of:
slim fast & granola bar for breakfast
salad for lunch
and usually chicken with vegetables for dinner
somewhere in here i'll have fruit
run atleast a mile sometime during the day

any tips or suggestions? thank you.

Want a real tip? Eat more and exercise more than that. You're eating way too little and your going to crash on this diet if you don't eat more since you aren't keeping your insulin in check, especially for your height and bodyweight. So you run a mile....thats only burning around 100 calories, throw in weight training which is more beneficial for your goals and besides the presence of muscle on the musculo-skeletal system is just a calorie burner in itself without doing much more than breathing.

i'm going to gr10 next year and we gotta pick subjects to take. which one should i take? french or spanish? i live in canada so i guess french would be useful.. but i SUCK at french and i've never taken spanish before so they're going to start from like.. the stuff they teach you on dora the explorer so i guess i'll be okay in spanish.. but i don't know which one i should pick.. people say french is more useful but i guess i should get more people's opinions before i make my final choice. please help =)

Stick with Spanish, its a much more common and useful language to know, especially when you're getting hired for a job later on when you want a career. Besides it really isnt that hard...it's a lot like english.

well i ordered the velform sauna belt. and i was just wondering if it really works? (even though i already ordered it i havent gotten it yet) and when i get it should i use it with a shirt or just bear my belly? thank you

I hope you didn't pay too much for this because it really doesn't do much at all. All it really does is make you lose the tiniest bit of water weight that comes back as soon as you restrict or eat too much sodium. You will see a little difference after you take the belt off, but it all comes back. Water weight is unstable, you must lose bodyfat. If you need a quick fix that helps your stomach look a little better for an hour or 2 then it works pretty good. You never know :-)

Ok im not extremely overweight but i am fat. im 15 years old and i weigh more than 145 pounds.. ive been excersizing alot and ive actually lost about 15pounds but, my stomach wont seem to shrink. i do 500 crunches a day, and other things but it still wont budge. im on an ok diet if that counts. i can suck my stomach in alot to make me skinner but when im not i get HUGE.. please help im tired of being fat and ugly.. is it possible to get lipo? or some kind of surgery like that? and what kind of excersises can i do?
i rate 5's!! thanks

Don't be a wuss and get lipo. It doesnt matter if you do 500 crunches or 10 crunches, it still wont lose any fat. The reasons why stomachs bulge is because of the action of a stress hormone named Cortisol and the fact that you are feeding yourself too much sugar and the insulin secreted from the pancreas tends to expand the stomach. Watch the sugar and remember its 100% diet so turn that OK diet into an excellent diet.

I'm a sophomore in high school...and I'm really..scared. I don't know what to do with my life!..I don't even know the college process..how do I apply? How do I apply for financial assistance? What's a major/minor? I don't know which classes to pick when I get to college..I don't know what I want to be when I grow up..Can someone help me figure all of this college stuff out? Thanks so much.

You dont have to worry about the college application process itself until your senior year. Financial assistance is filed for in the middle of your senior year. Its ok if you dont know what you want to be yet, but you have to start thinking. Dont stress out about it, when the time comes you'll have plenty of help along the way.

Hey, i think your the best person to ask this question to so can you help me?

15/f
what sort of food diets should i be having? can u give me some ideas for breakfAast, lunch and dinner that i can eat to maintain a healthy body and diet?

First let me stress the importance of eating regularly. Hunger in itself is a sign that your body is eating at itself and needs fast foods to help stabilize it. This is why it is better to eat 4 to 5 small meals daily to help keep the blood sugar levels in check to avoid hunger. If you diet or even if you dont I must recommend you get a good multivitamin. Special packs are made for women that should last a whole month or a little more for pretty cheap. Also when shopping for a multivitamin if you're a girl look for the Iron supplement to be separate from the rest of the pills so that you can take these extra Iron supplements during your period when it counts most. Usually the packs will come with about 8 separate Iron packs. As far as your diet goes and for anyone who reads this, this is what I recommend for the average male/female who exercises no more than 3 times per week:

Breakfast: Most important meal of the day, your body is nutrient deprived and needs them fast. Good options include:
-Eggs (Don't listen to people who say that the fat in egg is bad becuase its not. Its very beneficial as an Essential Fatty Acid (EFA). Also know that it is a myth that ingesting cholesterol will raise the LDL (bad) cholesterol in your system. This is not true- In fact the ingestion of SATURATED FAT is what leads to an increase in cholesterol levels, which eggs do have so adjust accordingly.
-Whole wheat, 12 grain, Rye Toast- All excellent breads for their complex carbohydrate value. STAY AWAY from white bread- its garbage.
-Oatmeal- Excellent slow burning, low Glycemic Index carb with plenty of dietary fiber to keep insulin in check.
-Fruit smoothies- Not Dannon or premade ones and these should only be taken when on the rush really, but ones that you can make on your own which are delicious. You need: 1/2-1 cup fat free cottage cheese, 1/2 cup of your favorite fresh fruit, 1 cup of a low fat yogurt of the same fruit flavor, 1/2-1 cup skim milk and a handful or two of ice- blend and enjoy its veryyy good.

Lunch:
-Boneless, skinless chicken breast: Broiled or grilled is best. Try and avoid frying at all costs.
-Tuna: In water, never oil. It doesnt have to be bland either, mix it with fat free mayo or even salsa. Dream something up that will suit you because Tuna is what I like to call:
The
Ultimate
Nutritional
Advantage
-Fresh salads: Should never be the only thing you eat because it really doesn't have a great amount of calories in it. Go easy on the dressing. As a matter of fact I will address a recipe for salad dressing later which you can go crazy with.
-Rice- Brown rice, not Minute Rice
-Your favorite Veggies- Eat it either raw or lightly steamed. Cooking kills many nutrients

Dinner:
-Lean beef- Aim for beef that is higher than 80% lean. Sirloin is best. Keep portions to about the size of you fist and trim all visible fat. Make sure you chew your beef good because if you don't - the Chloride and Sulfur content will putrify in your stomach if exposed to the Hydrocloric Acid for digestion too long.
-Chicken again
-Tuna or any other kind of fish- Shrimp, Lobster, Shark, Salmon, Clams are all good choices for their beneficial Omega 3 and Omega 6 Fatty acid properties.
-Salads, veggies, fresh fruit

Snacks: This is a topic Iam asked about a lot with people I train. What constitutes a good snack? Here are some that I've made up:

Protein Pudding:
1/2 cup skim milk
1 packet sugar free, fat free instant chocolate pudding mix
1 scoop of chocolate flavored protein powder
1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese
Blend in a Blender and pulse until creamy and of pudding consistency. Tastes just like Jell-O pudding

Peanut butter/Honey Graham crackers: These can be good to eat in between meals when needed

Break Graham crackers into separate portions, place Peanut butter on top, add a slice or 2 of banana and a squirt of honey and place the otehr graham cracker over it.

High Protein Salad dressing:
1/2-1 cup fat free cottage cheese
1/4 packet of your favorite flavor of salad dressing powder
Place in blender and pulse until creamy. Makes an excellent no fat/high protein salad dressing which you can use as a good salad dressing or a good veggie dip or really anything you like dressing with.

Couple this with your good exercise program and you have all that you'll ever need.

I hope this helped you in your efforts to be healthy and fit. Remember you are your body's guardian and not its prisoner. Be strong and be consistent.

okay so my upper arms are really saggy, like selulite (SP). what can i do to get rid of it?

like weight lifting maybe or something?

also if i can loose weight on my arms what excercises target that area AS WELL AS the rest of my body?

I know everyone wants to hear about some magic pill or curling exercise that will just zap fat off their arms. Unfortunately there isnt. The secret is- There is no secret. Now I could get into the complexities of targeting fat cells and all that crap but I'll give you the simple version- Diet. Diet is where everything is at, not curling. People say training is 90% diet and 10% training. Its really all 100% diet.

does anyone know a good exercise for like that area and suff because i have like a big butt & theighs and i it and i wanna find out how to get it smaller if thats possible ...thanks

Ok lets be logical here. Do you think that if you engage in resistance training and train a muscle group that it gets smaller? The whole point of resistance training is to break down and rip old muscle fibers to rebuild newer, stronger ones that are also bigger. Why would the thighs and glutes be any different? You arent going to tone anything by just exercising an area whether that be with weights, Pilates or anything else. Diet, Diet, Diet, Diet, Diet...there I cant say it enough because thats the only thing that is going to work.

How much can a person loose by working with this schedule.
All healthy food. And a reasonable amount.
Example of what I'd eat
Breakfest- Special K cerial, glass of Milk.
Lunch- Sandwich (Ryebread, mustard, ham) water, theese no calories no fat chips that are really good. And probably an orange or an Apple.
Snacks- fruits and sometimes a really small salad.
Dinner- whatever my mom cooks with water.
I'd workout in the morning for an hour.
I'd work out in the after noon for about an hour.
And how much would be reasonable to loose a week.
Like whats the highest and then lowest possible could be lost.
Thank you.

If you truly are going to train twice a day on a split system then you aren't eating anywhere near enough calories. Do you know how hard it is to stick to a split training system? You're better off doing one training session once a day for about 1 hr to 1 hr and a half. Another thing- Special K isn't healthy, Ham isnt healthy, chips no matter what the bag says arent healthy. Ditch that crap for fresh or lightly steamed vegetables and eat eggs in the morning. Don't listen to what Oprah and those stupid teen magazines and sites say about weight loss. Sorry to be truthful but from the standpoint of someone who designs diets for people- Your plan isnt as healthy as you think. Eat as many natural, unprocessed foods as you can and eat a good amount of calories, don't eat like a bird because it isnt going to work. Eat good and do it day in and day out.

Sorry that its not what you wanted to hear but hey the truth always hurts doesn't it?

does anyone know the acceptance rate for Harvard, Yale, and Providence College in Rhode Island?

I think Harvard and Yale get about almost 40,000 applications and may take only the 3000-5000 best.
