ok well ive been swimming competitively for like 8 years now. and well i quit this last year (freshman year) and well like swimmers have to eat ALOt cuz well swimmings pretty demanding. and so i quit and well have been eating alot but dont do really much exercise. ive gone from 103 to 110. but i also went into p.e. so ive gotten stronger. cuz i used to be really skinny so i noticed my arms have gotten bigger. is this fat or muscle weight?
any suggestions?

NO it absolutely does not. Don't listen to people who say that because most of them haven't lifted a weight in their lives. In fact- with the body's systems (endocrine in particular) working at that level- it actually promotes growth. The only thing that will cause a close of the growth plates is the use of anabolic steroids.

Hey mike,

Where I live we have recently been bombarded with comercials for this sauna belt thing. You must have seen the thing, it applies heat to an area of your body and they promise great weight loss.

Now to me that makes little sense, but they were talking about its "effect on the metabolism". Is there something here I am not aware of... is there any way this thing could actually work?

Absolute garbage that I definitely do not recommend. All it does is make your stomach sweat a little bit and doesn't help to keep any weight off. All I have to say is- DON'T :-)

This is just an example. If I eat 2000 calories a day, and I burn off 2500, does that mean I've lost 500 calories, and 1/7 of a pound?

Or, if I eat 2000 calories, but I require 2200 daily, does that mean I've lost 200 calories?

no.1 is the right way. Giving yourself the 500 calorie defecit from your maintainance total will kickstart the metabolic processes needed to burn fat.

im 13 and i have a body of a 16 year old, i weigh 120 and im 5'3 or 5'4 i know thats not really fat but you have to understand when i was 9 i always dreamed of going to jr high and high school being popular and skinny with alot of frinds, when i moved to a different part of new hartford i was only 10 and in 5th grade and i threw up not onpupose everyday b/c i was nervous, i lost a lot of weight and felt great and then i broke my arm i couldnt play outside and it rained during the summer so i had to stay inside it sucked and as you know when there is nothing to do you eat and i ate i got really fat and everyone knew it then i excersided and i lost a lil bit of weight and then i did cross country and i lost alot of weight i felt a lil good but not enough scence its been over i have been doing things excersise to help and i have fat not much but enough to make me go crazy!! my lil sister she has no fat there its like love handles only i have a lil i would love to loose weight to get to 100 or even better 90 and i looked at starving myslef or throwing up like i did when i was 10 and i did onece but then i couldnt sleep at night and i was uncomfortable so i stopped that now im back to wear i started im doing track soon so that willl help but i want to loose it now i know its bad but how would you feel waking up and looking at ur sisrer who is 12 and skinner than u were ever were you know you can look like that and trust me i asked her how she stays that way and she doesnt remember how she did it so now im screewed i know crunches work ive been doing that i want to get rid of it tell me how to stay on something that will work quick like throwing up i have a hard time doing it but i feel like i have no other choice i bawled about this onece and my mom said that if i ever had a problem like that she would send me somewhere and i dont anyone to know about it just so you know i have 8 people in my house so i have to keep it quiet and i have a big family and i dont want my b/f to know either so how do i keep it quiet and knowone knowing and how do i loose it fast?? i have been crying over for this for months and years pleez help me!

No crunches DO NOT "tone" (I HATE that word when someone uses it in regards to fitness) your stomach, neither do sit-ups or any direct abdominal/illiopsos exercise...they all build muscle.

Toning comes from diet and above all- you are 13, and are doing this for all the wrong reasons. Sounds like you just want the look and thats not what its all about at all- its about the discipline and the growth of your character and the health you attain from your efforts. Thats ok- 95% of America thinks the same way and doesnt succeed for all the same reasons- self critique and obsession leads to disappointment and people get all pissy when they dont lose 40 lbs in a week. To get and keep defined muscle- No it will not take 3 weeks (Most of the time not even a year), No you cannot eat like a bird, and it really doesnt matter what you do as far as exercise goes- nothing happens without the diet. It takes time, discipline, hard work and determination- not Seventeen magazine telling you to do some ridiculous workout or diet.

What are some good over the counter diet pills?

My heartfelt recommendation is zero diet pills. Judging from your question it is obvious you are not too advanced with fitness and simply would not know how to use the pills to your benefit. Is this an insult? No- its the truth. Most of the people who buy diet pills dont know the first thing about them which is why the supplement comapnies have so much money- people are just complacent and think that the pills do everything they claim with no effort on the part of the person. Use your head. Theres no understanding of biochemistry or the manipulation of nutrients to make the pills beneficial. Stay away from the pills.

Okay so im 124-127 pounds (i change lol), 5'2, and 16 years old.

Why is everyone sooooo concerned with their midsection? I mean is that the only muscle you really care about? Do you really want a 6 pack and have no other bodypart development to compliment your midsection?

TV and those retarded magazines have given everyone this warped sense of fitness. Do you really think that no matter what you do all spring and summer will actually get you a seriously defined midsection; like your body can just change that fast? Eat, train, sleep, repeat. A little bit of knowledge and a whole lot of motivation do the trick. I get asked this question from gym goers 1000000000000000 times a day and I give the same response and still no one has challenged me on it. Im sorry but youre not getting a Baywatch body by summer, at least not one that you can keep. Try doing all of this stuff for a whole year day in and day out and then you will see some real results that can be kept.

Honestly here- these shouldnt be things you promise to do, they should be routine. Why are you in such a hurry to get results fast? whenever i run i get out of breath real easily so what can i do so i can run longer without getting so tired ?

The real trick behind running is the amount of breaths and the intervals at which you take them. Always in through the nose and out the mouth in a deep manner. If you are running on a track, try and make a mental note of different objects about 15-20 feet away your last breath so you know when to breathe again- deep breaths in through the nose and out the mouth. Running, in particular and other aerobic exercises increases our amount of lactic acid which in turns means less ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate- our main fuel) and oxygen getting throughout the body through the circulatory system, whereas when we breathe normally like we are right now we can produce about 36 ATP per glycogen body, when we operate without oxygen (Anaerobic) we can produce only about 2 ATP per glycogen body, so we have to take care to:

1.) Drink plenty of water before and after running as water is an important vessel inside the body
2.) It is recommended you eat a high glyemic index carb such as fruit before you run in order to give extra energy in the form of glycogen for your body
3.) BREATHE BREATHE BREATHE make it a habit so that you dont have to think about it you just do it.

In the short term there was problems with sleeping and the health of the bowels. Long term was mainly an effect on metabolism and the secretion of certain hormones such as insulin and thyroxin. There are many lawsuits going against another popular diet pill- Cortislim for problems people are facing as a result of its use. Zantrex 3 is not any better, I suggest you get off that supplement and stick to non-stimulant diet aids such as Tonalin CLA and Hoodia extract.

Honestly?

There is no easy way, there are no shortcuts. It requires careful diet and training all mixed into once but Iam sure from how your figure sounds that you shouldn't be too concerned. Just remember- If it was easy then everyone would be training and most of America wouldn't be slobs.

When i get older i want to do stuff like CSI, Forensic files, && Like find out who murder people. And you know its pretty much all scientiftic.

Hey thats an awesome field to get into. I myself am attending a Criminal Justice college during my internship as an NYPD cadet and all of that stuff is offered. Definitely focus on your science subjects a lot and depending on if you want to get into something such as criminology you can study psychology as well to help profile crime and the criminals who commit it. When you get a little older see about different programs with your local police department and federal agencies as well such as the FBI, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals which are all exceptionally excellent agencies for different internships and more information about their different positions. I myself plan on leaving the NYPD after I get a little older and my service committment is completed and look to transfer to either the Secret Service or U.S. Marshals and while I dont want to be in forensics... I can tell you the FBI has an EXCELLENT forensics department in particular if you are looking to go higher than your local police department.
