"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
My best friend is a guy, and he is like the best, I really really like him, but I'm not sure if he feels the same way about me =/
All my friends say its really obvious that we like each other but I've had someone ask him out for me but he said no. It didn't ruin our friendship at all, we always hang out, and everyone says we might as well go out cuz we already act like we are. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, how can I tell if he likes me? Or if he does why did he say no?
He might have said no because someone else asked and he wanted you to do it yourself. Also, he might not have been interested in you that way.
It's possible that you're meant to be best friends, and nothing more. Both of you might just be the naturally flirtatious type =]

how do u meet guys in a small town from different schools?
Through mutual friends, myspace, school dances, or friends-of-friends.
I was on Loestrin 24 for 3 months, and decided to switch to YAZ this month. I am just starting my second week of the new birth control, and I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend last night. Is it possible to get pregnant because it is the first month of a new birth control?
It's highly unlikely. Both pills have the same hormones in them, Yaz has a different form of estrogen, however.
After a week, it's often long enough to be protected from pregnancy [depending on when you started], though most doctors advise you to wait a month to be on the safe side. Since you've been on birth control for awhile I'd say you're fine. If you miss your period, take a pregnancy test. But try not to stress about it, because stress only messes up your cycle.

k well me and my mom are not close or anything but i feel awkward asking her somethings and watchign some shows with her i dont know why and i hate being around her !!! whatshould ido
Well you aren't being that specific here.
It's normal to feel uncomfortable talking to your mom about certain things. Some subjects, like things about your personal safety or well-being, bite the bullet and have the discussion. Other things, like irrelevant things that happen at school, you don't have to discuss if you don't want to.
I've never been uncomfortable watching most things with my parents, but I can imagine that most people would rather not watch the unrated version of the 40 Year Old Virgin with their mothers =P That's normal too- she's your mother, and thinking about your parents doing that is enough to make people want to scream and run for cover, haha.
So unless you're fighting about things, or your relationship with her is suffering, you're fine.

I don't know why but I break out alot before i get my period, does anyone know how to stop it from happening? thanks
You can't stop it. It's because of your hormones changing throughout your cycle.
You can try using a more 'aggessive' face wash/acne product that week, like add a benzoyl peroxide wash or mask.
Another option is going on birth control to regulate your hormones, but I'd only consider that if it was REALLY bad and you had other symptoms too.
Here's a link to my FAQ on acne, too:

recently i've been breaking out alot. its so annoying, i usually have small breakouts but now its just pimple after pimple and its driving me crazy! i have proactive and it used to work but doesnt really anymore...does anyone have a cure? like an amazing product that cleared up their skin 100%? thank youu
I used to have more acne than clear skin... seriously. And I tried proactiv but it wasn't worth the money & bleached our facecloths.
Read my FAQ on this:
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=510619
It should be very helpful to you.
If you go to a dermatologist, the two products that finally 'did it' for me, and got my skin as clear as a teenager can reasonably expect, are Retin-A Micro and Clindagel. Both are kind of expensive with insurance [28 dollars and 40] but they last for over six months and in the end, are VERY cheap.
Good luck!

I recently read that Slade Smiley's house (from The real Housewives of Orange County) was listed for 1.7 million, but recently slashed to 1.2. I was under the impression that the gated community Coto De caza (or any of them for that matter) have VERY expensive houses...not that that isn't expensive. But i live in a house (NOT a mansion...or even close to a mansion) that is just under 2 million. I do live in a county that is known for being for "rich people" but even so. I would think all fo the houses in Orange County would be insanely high...idkk "the oc" not as reputable as i thought...
Search your zip code on this site:
http://www.realtor.com/
.. and you'll find what homes are selling for. I use this site in school mainly for researching house styles in certain geographic areas, but the prices are there too =]

i have trouble keeping my mouth closed like normal people, i mean i cant close it for five seconds without having to open it. haha, my mouth gets dry easily i guess. plus, i busted my bottom lip when i was 3, so i have like a littlish/biggish bump on it. it just makes me feel really awkward keeping it open then closing then opening. haha i dont know, it just stesses me and i probably keep making weird expressions when im opening it... well does anyone know anything i can do to keep my mouth closed. like would practice help? im getting lip surgery in a couple of monthes to remove the bump, so that might help, eh?
Have you tried opening your mouth just a little, like with your lips slightly parted? You could try sucking on a mint/jolly rancher/livesaver, too. No one's going to look at you weirdly for eating mints ;]
And I'm willing to bet that this is something you're noticing a lot more than other people do. It's similar to thinking that you have the biggest zit in the universe on your nose and everyone's staring at it, when in actuality, it;s barely visible.
So unless you're making a lot of noise, like slurping, or smacking your lips, I wouldn't dwell on this. =]

Ok I just started taking them yesterday..
I googled them and everything and they seemed like the pill I wanted but I wanted to know if there is any side effects or anythingg.
Like gaining weight or something like that?
Cuz I dont wanna gain weight so if I have to i'll start dieting again...
oh and if it helps im 15, 5'4, 115 pounds, and sexually active..
The official site isn't working [on my computer anyway] so here's some info from www.drugs.com:
Common, less sever side effects [ones you'll most likely actually experience]
- mild nausea, vomiting, bloating, stomach cramps;
- breast pain, tenderness, or swelling;
- freckles or darkening of facial skin;
- increased hair growth, loss of scalp hair;
- changes in weight or appetite;
- problems with contact lenses;
- vaginal itching or discharge;
- changes in your menstrual periods; or
- headache, nervousness, dizziness, tired feeling
Some women gain weight, others don't. Sometimes they even lose weight. It'll only be a few pounds if you do gain anything and isn't that noticeable at all.

Yeahh, I got my hair razored and I was hoping to add some umph with a new bottle of hairspray and some backcombing.
But like can anyone recommend some brands of hairspray that dont smell or at least smell good, and not strong at all? A lot of times the ones marked unscented still smell reallly bad, like my moms White Rain or something xD
Also, would you recommend using a pump or continuous spray? My mom doesnt like me using the continuous because she says its easier to inhale and it can be dangerous to my health. Is that true? Just by everyday use? Im not gonna go like huffing it or something.
Aussie Hi Hold and Hi Shine smells really good when you spray it. And the smell fades away after awhile yet helps get rid of any funky smells, too.
Continuous spray hairsprays don't have chemicals anymore, like they used to. They're safe for the ozone layer now, because they use pressure to get the product out. They're safe =]

how can u tell if ur a good kisser or not...i havent had my first kiss and i wanna make sure....i dont wanna go up to him and ask if im a good kisser.....any other ways?
It's almost impossible to be a really bad kisser. Unless they pulled away and said 'Ew, Gross!' you're probably fine.
Just go for it & don't overanalyze =]

Help! I don't know if I'm a good kisser or not/if my boyfriend thinks I'm horrible at it. What can I do?
Honestly, you could read a book about it, and you'd probably forget everything once you went in for the kiss.
Explore. Do what feels right. Make it fun, playful, romantic, whatever you want it to be. Don't make it all about jamming your tongue down his throat, and try not to drool all over him, because it's generally less than desireable to do so.
If you come off as confident it'll be a lot more fun. If all evening you're thinking "Oh my gosh, this is going to be bad" you won't enjoy yourself. Follow his lead at first, if you're truly that nervous.
And really, it's almost impossible to find a truly bad kisser. If anything, they might do something you're not used to; give it a chance before you hate it. Who knows, he might be thinking the same thing right now about you!
Over time, you'll develop your own personal style of kissing/making out, and that's not a bad thing. Do whatever feels good/right to you, and gets a positive reaction. For example, some people love a gentle, or less than gentle, bite of the lip, "necking", and other techniques. Like I already said, experiment & make it fun!
From personal experience I'd advise that you brush your teeth and floss, and have some mild mints with you, like TicTacs. Fruity is usually good, and less overpowering. If you're at a party, don't worry too much about what you're eating if you're both eating the same things, but a huge plate of hummus & extra garlic is a bad choice right before kissing =P. That's where mints come in handy for both of you. Casually offer him one if he's been gorging on something stinky.

So I like the hair selena gomez has at the wall e premiere.Im going to have my haircut that way the day of my school pic. Im nervous i wont look good in it though.Is there a way to know if it looks good on you or not?I really like the hair.....
You can ask the person cutting your hair if it'll look good. If you like the style, go for it. The worst that could happen: you won't like it, and you'll grow it out into a new style. It's only hair, have fun with it.

lots of people have been telling me the my bf wants to take it to the next level..but i keep denying it to them....hes really sweet and really hot...when my friends and i got done with weights we asked if we could get a ride home from him and he said ok so we waited till he was done with weights in the car. It was 10 min to wear i texted him"hurry up plz" and i found out is phone was in his middle department thingy or whatever(the thing between the driver and passenger seat...so i open it and see a condom in there right next to his cellphone!!!what do i do?hes 16
Unless it's a used condom I wouldn't worry about it at all =P
Seriously. Unless he's forcing you to have sex, or pressuring you to the point it makes you uncomfortable [and you've asked him to stop and he hasn't] I'd actually give him a cookie for being responsible and having condoms just in case. His car isn't a good place to keep them, though, because extreme heat or cold can cause them to crack. You should mention that to him.
For all you know it might not even be his [a friend could have thrown it in] or his parents could have bought him condoms without his intentions to use them. My ex's parents did that... it was awkward yet hysterical. Regardless of who bought them, it's not a bad thing that your boyfriend has condoms, it's only bad that he's keeping them in the car.
Oh and by the way, I'd consider you off the hook for going through the center console, because your motive for doing so was getting his cell phone, not snooping.

i'm sixteen years old and i just found out that one of my best friends had sex. we are really close and i was surprised to hear it, especially because i thought she would tell me something like that. i don't know if i should bring it up to her because i don't want her to get angry that i found out or be embarrassed or anything. should i say anything about it or forget it?
If she wanted you to know she would have told you.
Some people don't like talking about their relationships, even to best friends.
It's also possible that she regrets it, and would rather forget than tell you all the details.

Ok this is for an assignment for school. I need to ask people of their favorite events in history and why? I need about 10 and i already have 3, but if you have more than one favorite event then feel free to tell me. So far I have:
The fall of communism
The civil war
The fall of the roman empire
I still need 7 events and reasons why...
THANKS =]
Here's a few ideas =]
- Women in the Workforce [during WWII]
- Counterculture of the 1960s
- Signing of the Magna Carta
I want my mom to get me yaz, the birth control but not because I want "birth control" I want it to regulate my period. I don't know how to ask my mom because she is just going to say, " thats just an excuse to have sex." and im not sexually active. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should ask her?
Talk to your mom about how irregular your period is. I thought my mother would say the same thing, but she agreed that knowing when it's coming is very helpful. Try explaining to her that if you're willing to talk to her about going on birth control, you're not going to lie about your motives. If she trusts you, that might be enough to convince her.
Otherwise, reassure her that you know not to make irresponsible decisions, and that the pill doesn't protect you from STDs. Do your homework & know the facts about it, it'll show that you're committed to the idea.

I am uber excited for the movie but I know that the last book just came out. Are all four books going to be included in the movie? I would appreciate any more info you have. Thanks!

Seems like it's just Twilight. Most likely they'll make four movies.
