about

"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

wicked awesome conversations

^my forum, liven it up a little?

advice

Thank you soo much hunn .
but :( they told me i had to wait a lil bit longer which i dont know why.
this really does susk because i was so happy about getting the job :(
right now am working at the city hall but thats only a job for the summer. its going to end next week :( i need a job to pay for everything of my senior year. the bad thing is that there are not alot of jobs availabe out there. i think hehe, but hopefully i find a good one. right now am working at the city hall, selling overflow trash bags and as a receptioist. i think this is good if i put on a job resume dont you think? ughh i dont even know what to do anymore :(

Absolutely put it on a resume. But make it sound fancy when you describe it, like you were responsible for maintaining sanitation in City Hall, not dumping out trash :)

And if they're telling you to wait, ask for what date they want you to start. Chances are you're replacing someone leaving for college, and they got some training out of the way sooner (it's a pain to do training because you have to schedule an extra person, etc etc)

But never leave anything off of a resume - volunteer work is also good, especially as a younger worker who doesn't have twenty years experience. Also, to even HAVE a resume is impressive; when I applied for my job I was the only kid who supplied one, and they were like, WOAH. that's skilled :]

The Dry Shampoo is for straight to normal hair. It cleans your hair and removes oil.

The Waterless Foam Shampoo is for dry curly to normal hair and cleans while giving moisture.

The Refreshing Mist is for all hair types and eliminated odours and provides a refreshing look and feel, leaving hair smooth and shiny.

Okay reading this now, I kinda of answered my question with the last product. But just saying if I had to choose between the first two, which one? My hair isn't super Beyonce curly but they're nice normal waves and it isn't super straight either. I would go for the second but it's to prevent dry curly hair and I have oily curly/wavey hair!

Hey, I've tried both products. The dry shampoo is best if you can brush your hair out, because it's designed like a typical dry shampoo- you spray it in, then brush out the powder (it dries into a powder that absorbs the oil).

The second one "washes" curls without actually having to brush it out, because you absorb the product with a towel afterward. It's good if you've styled your hair to be really curly & can't or don't want to brush it out.

The refreshing mist can be used anytime, and you don't need the first two products to use it. The mist works if your hair smells but doesn't actually need to be cleaned.

am gonna start workig at market basket next monday and am here to ask is it hard to work there? speacially when the costumers give you a credit card. please help me out here i would appreciate it ;)

Hey :) I work at Shaw's actually. But Market Basket's about 10 minutes away, a ton of my friends work there, and most supermarkets around here are the same.

It's not a HARD job to do. Sometimes it's stressful, especially when customers give you crap. But most of the time that doesn't happen and a lot of people are really nice to talk to. You'll get to know the regulars, see their kids grow up, etc etc. All that corny stuff :)

When you first get trained you're going to see a list of approximately eight hundred forty seven million PLUs (the codes for produce) and you might want to cry. In actuality, most produce has stickers on it or someone else will know the code (like your bagger or the cashier behind you), and soon enough you'll know the really common ones by heart and you'll key in 4062 when you see a cucumber coming :)

So don't even stress about the PLUs 'cause it'll be second nature before you know it. I know that most Market Baskets give you a training manual with a PLU list and it seems like you need to know all of them... you don't. Jsut a couple, like bananas (4011) :)

I remember my friend saying it was a pain when customers paid by credit card because MB actually enforces their policy pretty strictly- but again, it's not difficult it's just a pain in the rear :) Your regular customers will know of the policy already and those who don't are usually sympathetic. Especially if you throw in a short warning about identity theft, credit card fraud, and how it makes prices higher for everyone and it's only being done to keep their info secure.

Blah, blah, blah.

You'll soon discover what you need to say to make a customer happy. You don't say, "Hey we're all out of Breyer's, it sure sucks to be you!"
You say "I'm sorry, a lot of people bought our sale items today. We will be getting a shipment in by tomorrow (or in a couple days). Might I suggest [insert whatever the store brand is called]?" Managers love when you promote store products. If your store does rain checks, be sure to offer one.

For the most part grocery stores are fun. There's days when it absolutely sucks to work there, but overall it's a really good job for someone who needs flexible hours and a raise once in awhile. I'm going to college, and grocery stores keep you on the payroll when you go away, and you get hours over your breaks for some extra cash. And there's always a job to come back to in the summer.

Also, when you're in high school, they're really good about scheduling around activities and sports when you give them adequate warning. Chances are also good that someone will be able to cover for you if you suddenly realize you can't work a shift.

The worst thing about Market Basket would probably be how strictly they enforce the dress code; from what my friends have said it's worse than any other store. I think it's khakis and a tucked in shirt or something awfully boring like that. :]

Also, if you're working at one in Massachusetts most don't sell alcohol because of the number of liquor licenses around. So you'll occassionally dodge a whiny customer about that. And I know the store in Bellingham doesn't sell condoms, but those reactions to that discovery are usually funny, and there's a WalMart a few stores down :)

OH.
Market Basket actually gives bonuses! My friend got about 100 dollars for Christmas and something else. Which is wicked awesome, especially considering most stores don't know what bonus means.

So I hoped you enjoyed reading this novella of an anwser, if you need anything else feel free to email me at lauramgrant@yahoo.com because it'll be faster than reaching me on here :)

I recently got a used 98 Standard VW Beetle for my first car and I love it! I didn't have any problems before last night when I was driving home from a movie. It was dark outside and I couldn't see the Speedometer or the RPM dial. I haven't been driving standard for long so it was very difficult to drive without being able to see the RPM. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Preferably something I can do at home so I won't have to take it to a shop. Thanks!

Did you accidentally turn down the panel dim light, or whatever its called in a Beetle? It's a knob usually near the headlights and you can spin it up or down and it adjusts how bright the lights are behind the speedometer and radio and such.

My Ipod Classic 80 GB made a beeping noise like an alarm clock and stopped working. I get a blank white screen and no buttons will function. I put it back on a charger and Itunes won't even recognize it exists.

When this happened the Ipod was on its charger on my clock radio. Any idea how to fix this as it's not responding to anything. It's not the new Ipod Classic but an older version.

The resetting and disk mode process is the same for every iPod I've ever encountered. So that should work for you ask well. Try JUST resetting it first- MENU and center button. That may be all it needs.

I'm 18. In high school. I live with my mom & grandma.

I've been having serious issues with granny lately. She is ALWAYS in my business. And not like typical parenting stuff.

She goes through all of my stuff.

She looks through my notebook, pulls out tests I did poorly on, and bitches to my mom about my grades. (And I'm a damn good student. One 80 isn't going to kill me) She finds dates of upcoming tests and discloses them to my mother as well (who doesn't even care to ask me about them).

If I leave the room, I have to turn my monitor off or she'll read what's on the screen.

If I have a friend over, she comes down every three seconds to see what we're doing.

I have no privacy.

She also does shit like yelling at me in front of my mom. She is desperate to be in control of the household despite the fact that she makes absolutely no money and jsut...well, lives here. When she has a problem with soemthing i did, she says "IF I WERE YOUR MOTHER, I would ____" when my mom is clearly in earshot. Indirectly telling her what to do.

She yells at me over everything. If I wear somethign she doesn't like, she yells. If I stay up late, she yells. She threatens to wake my mom up and tell on me. I wouldn't give a shit about this except:
1) my mom works two jobs and has trouble sleeping. I comply when my grandma is having a bitch fit over something minor because i think it is just TOO CRUEL to wake her up.
2) if I don't comply, my mom yells at me, angry because she was woken up, and just makes me obey my grandma so she won't have to put up with her yelling and get some sleep.

She is convinced she knows everything. It's ridiculous. She is SURE she knows my friends and their habits better than I do. "Your friends don't stay up late." "Your friends do all their work on time." "Your friends don't dress like this." "Your friends do better in school". There's no arguing with her. And she uses these "facts" against me when telling my mom on me.

She bitches at me constantly when I'm not doing work. Funny thing is, I would gladly do my work were she not bitching in the first place. It's just that her yelling stresses me out and I can't concentrate. So I put it off. But if I don't do the work, she bitches more. Which causes me to put off my work more. And so on.

She doesn't know when to leave a person alone. If I ask her to please stop talking, she doesn't. She keeps HOVERING and yelling and bitching. This, of course, angers me, until she's yelling at me and I'm yelling back at her to shut up and leave me alone. ...And then she tells my mom that I yell at innocent little her for no reason.

She causes an intense amount of stress in the house. She immediately jumps to conclusions and causes problems that shouldn't be there. Once, I got a pimple near my upper lip. She freaked out, called my mom, and told her I had herpes. My mom came home from work panicked and angry. I had to explain myself to her. This could've been avoided if she just shut up and thought RATIONALLY for a second.

She literally has a problem with EVERYTHING not done her way. It is not normal.

This shit was okay when I was younger, but I'm an adult now. I'm going off to college in a couple of months and I will NOT be able to make the transition if I have this old lady breathing down my back and controlling me 24/7.

I've tried talking to my mom about this. She doesn't listen. She only sides with me on this issue when my grandma is bitching at HER over something and telling her how to live HER life. Otherwise, it's "you have to listen to her. my house, my rules."

I'd have moved out the second I turned 18, but I don't have any money. I have like $2k in the bank. I need that for college.

How the hell do I deal with this?

If this behavior is relatively new (or its severity is a new development) make sure her doctor is informed. It may be some form of dementia.

Otherwise, well, you've got a highly opinionated, stubborn grandma on your hands. I understand your frustration to an extent as my grandmother often gets neurotic over things like rain, soup, and the unfairness of squeeze bottles (please don't ask)

What you need to do is not rip your hair out, flip your shit, or disown your family in the next few months (or at all, ideally). Think towards the future, which hopefully includes on-campus housing.

Also you have to realize that your mother is probably only siding with your grandma in order to keep the peace. She knows you're right- she knows that you'd be doing your work if you weren't being reamed out by grandma. She knows that the way you're dressing is nothing out of the ordinary. She also knows that if she agrees with you, Grandma will NEVER leave EITHER of you alone.

So what you need to do is compromise, and try to see things from your grandmother's perspective. If she doesn't like your clothes, put on a hoodie and cover up (until you leave the house, then take it off again). Think about it- her generation seldom showed their knees while wearing a skirt and considered anything lower than a turtleneck racy! While her reaction is strange, it's just how she is.

Your mom sounds terribly stressed. Next time you both have a free moment, sit down with her and talk. You probably both feel the same way about this situation. If you both have cell phones, try and use them to your advantage to avoid future freakouts (example: send your mom a text that says "Grandma thinks I have herpes but it's just a zit, no need to come home! :)" Or at least devise a sort of system to try and warn one another of conflicts with Grandma.

In the meantime, lock yourself in your room when you need peace. Barring that, buy some earplugs or noise canceling headphones (which is a good investment 'cause they'll come in handy for college anyway). Study at the library or a friends house. Hide anything you don't want being dug through in an inconspicuous spot. A good method if she's digging through your stuff is to leave them with a friend or relative you trust, or in a safe that looks like a book from the outside.

Best of luck.

I need to break up with my long-dist relationship boyfriend. We've been dating 7 months. There's no real reason to break up except..I sent him a pic that wasn't me. I know, I know. I'm too ashamed to tell him the truth, and I'm supposed to be 'visiting' him in a month. I need to end it, what do I say? I don't want to hurt his feelings, so nothing like 'I don't love you anymore' or whatever.

I was thinking of saying something along the lines of my dad disapproves, and I have to end it with you, or he'll kick me out or something. I know, just lying more. But seriously, I just want to get out of this now, it's my own fault and I know now to never do it again. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

A lie on top of another lie? Sooner or later he's going to find out. I'm sort of confused by the situation; have you never met this guy before? because otherwise he'd have to know it wasn't you in the picture. If this was a purely online thing, it's highly likely that your parents WOULDN'T approve, so that'd be a legitamate reason.

If this is actually a guy you knew already, try to tell him it wasn't actually you and you're sorry for the deceitfullness. You could also tell him that things aren't working out between you anymore because of the disance (which seems to be true).

If I misinterpreted your question, please clarify in a new question. Good luck!

My eyes get dry sometimes & i sometimes wear my contacts i was just wondering if i could use re wetting drops in my eyes while i'm wearing my contacts?

Will it harm my eyes or my contacts?

It's totally safe, just use drops designed for contacts. You can buy them with everything else for eyes, and you can't miss it. The bottles say FOR CONTACTS right on them.

In a pinch, you could also use a couple drops of your regular solution.

well i am falling for this guy, and spend alot of time at his house, and im worried that we might lose contol one night and i don't want to end up pregnant. but how do i tell my mom i want to be on birth control and still be able to see him?

Depends on how close you are with your mom.
One of your options is to tell her you want to be protected in the future and for anything that could happen. Another option is to ask her if you can go on the pill for other reasons, such as regulating your cycle, lessening the severity of acne, et cetera. Your last option would be to get it from a clinic in your area, but you probably wouldn't be able to use your parents' insurance (if they have it) if you chose that option.

Anyway, until you're on the pill (and even afterwards, ideally, because no method of birth control is 100% foolproof) you should have condoms on hand. You can buy them anywhere and there's no age limit. Use a self-checkout if you're really self-conscious about it. Know how to use them and have one with you whenever there's a possbility of the two of you having sex. That way, there's no excuse not to use protection.

Hope I helped. Inbox me if you need more assistance :)

okay , so I really need a job and I'm all out of idea's.
i've applied at McDonalds twice :
once in August of last year.
and the second just 3 days ago .

i never got a call from the first time ?
i know i'm a little young,
but i'll be 16 in July..

my family doesnt have much spare money to hand out lately,
so i want a job so i can have some extra cash for whatever & also so i can begin saving up for a car.

if you know anyother places that hire my age,
or any good money making ideas are would be greatly appreciated :)

Until you're 16, you're pretty much out of luck unless you can find a small family business somewhere.

Try a supermarket- some of them hire 14 and 15 year olds. Or a restaurant, for a busboy position.

Do most guys like belly button rings? im 17 and i want a belly button ring but one of my guy friends said theyre trashy. im still getting it, i just want opinions haha. Thankss =]

It really depends on the person and what the ring looks like. If you're wearing this huge, gaudy ring and showing it off 24/7, then yeah, you're going to look trashy.

But it is possbile for it to look nice/cute. I've got a few friends who have them and they're really nice. Just limit exposure to when you're wearing a bathing suit and other appropriate times =)

so i have curly hair and i went to the salon the other day and the lady cut my hair to short. i guess she didnt realize how much it would curl up. so now i have a little patch of curly hair on one side of my face ive straightened it but it look funny. does anyone have any ideas?

Could you possibly pin that section up under the rest if your hair to hide it? Or twist it up and pin it to the side? I'm sure there's a way to disguise it.

Anyway, it'll grow out before you know it. Short of getting a wig, there's not too much you can do now ;]

I've been taking YAZ for about 2 years now and I haven't had any bad side effects. However, reading about the lawsuits against YAZ and it's possible side effects scares me.
What other brands of birth control pills are good?

I've been on Yaz for over a year and like Melody, I can understand your concern. However, the lawsuits are a result of a sort of false advertising Bayer did when initially marketing the product. It was portrayed as "safer" than other pills when in actuality it has the same risks as any other pill. If your doctor deemed it safe for you to be on birth control, you have nothing to worry about. if ANYTHING, just have your potassium levels tested (but that's right in the pamphlet too).

I just received Revitol Acnezine Treatment Cream, Dietary Supplement, and Anti-Blemish Spot gel in the mail. I'm 16 and have mild acne on my forehead.

This is my first time using it and I have a few questions. Even if you only answer one, that'd be great.

1. I'm going to begin tomorrow. But is it okay if I use the Spot Gel on pimples I have now before I start the regular treatment?

2. Do I have to ingest the each day at the same time?

3. Is it okay if I take the pill around 530, before dinner since I have school monday through friday?

4. Can I exfoliate my face with a gentle natural exfoliant (sugar, green tea, honey) along with my treatment? How often?

5. Is it true that I should ingest the pill on an empty stomach? When's the best time to take it?

6. There's cotton and something in my bottle of pills. Do I take that stuff out so its only the pills?

7. How do I store the products?

Thank you so much. Again, any answers would be great.

1. Probably okay to do so, but I'd wait 'til tomorrow to start everything just to be consistent.

2. It's very beneficial to do so, because it keeps the level of medication in your body consistent.

3. Don't see why not, whatever helps you remember to take it at the same time.

4. It's usually okay to combine treatments, however use this new system by itself for a couple weeks first to see how your skin reacts. Adding another product to the mix may interfere with active ingredients or be too much for your skin.

5. Unless the product has a required time, it's up to the person. Take it at the same time everyday at a good time for you (so if taking it in the morning makes you nauseous, take it with lunch or dinner instead)

6. Yeah, the cotton's only there for shipping purposes. And in some cases it keeps moisture out of the pills.

7. Again, check the label. It maybe need refrigeration. Otherwise, anywhere besides a bathroom is okay. Keep high up (for small childrens' sake) and somewhere you'll remember.

Good luck :]

it's so noticeable that i cover my left side of my face with my side bangs all the time because my left eye droops down along with my eyebrow and i'm so self-conscious about it. i know no one's face is perfectly symmetrical, and maybe i am worrying too much, but it's seriously so noticeable. people have even told me things about it. what is wrong with me?
some say that it's a case of bad genes? or i'm unhealthy? i'm a teenager, does that mean it could still even out or something?

If you try to cover it up, it often brings more attention to it. Also, if it makes you feel any better, my ears aren't at the same height, and my glasses perpetually look lopsided because of it. And also I'm developing a lazy eye of some sort, haha. No one is perfect =)

Anyway, I recently discovered that if I did my eyeliner a certain way, it sort of disguised the fact that one of my eyes is like, sagging. I drew the line on my lower lid in a differently shaped curve. I's hard to describe but you'll see what I mean when you try.

Next time you're at a doctor, make sure he rules out a possible underlying medical condition (Bell's Palsy comes to mind, but I REALLY doubt that, because it's usually quite pronounced). Most likely, you'll ask "Why is my face asymmetrical?" and his reply will be, "Your face is asymmetrical?"

My dell computer was left out one night and the stupid cat spilled a glass of water on the table. The computer was sitting in water when I went downstairs luckily it was off and not plugged in. I took the computer and tried to dry it off and even took the bottom panels off and blow dried it. Now my computer keeps saying stuff like QuickSet has a problem that cant be fixed and it's definitely running alot slower. What can I do to fix it and make sure everything is ok. Is my computer ruined for good? If I took it to the Geek Squad would it be really exspensive to fix? please help!

Put it in a bag and fill it with dry, uncooked rice. Take the battery out and leave it in there too. Leave it like that for a week or so, replacing the rice if it seems to get moist. My mom's dropped her cell phone to the bottom of a lake (and it took awhile to find). It wouldn't work well at all at first, but we put it in rice and now its perfect.

Depending on what got damaged it may or may not be expensive. But before you do anything, back up your hard drive! If you DO lose the computer, you won't lose your files. If you don't have a big enough flash drive, use an iPod (you can use them like a portable hard drive) and just copy all your files to it. Good luck!

At dance we wear leotards and our bras always show really bad. We have our Christmas recital coming up soon and we cant have our bras showing on stage. So how can we stop our bras from showing under our leos? Should we wear something eles under our leos?

Wear an "invisible" bra. Victoria's Secret sells a few versions, and stores like Target will probably have their own version. They're basically cups that mold to your shape and stay stuck til you take them off.

You could also wear a t-shirt bra that's designed to be seamless, or wear a tank top underneath.

How can I look good at golf class? I absolutly must wear a collored shirt, khaki pants/shorts, a hat (so I cant do my hair), and horribly ugly golf shoes. We cannot wear jeans, skirts, t-shirts, or really short shorts. I dont really want to wear make up. So what can I do to look good with completly ugly clothes?

Buy some nice polos in cute colors. Get something form-fitting but not too tight, so you can actually golf in it. If you're not much a polo wearer and don't want to waste a lot of money, Aeropostale and Target usually have polos for about ten dollars each.
