A bank account is the solution here! Whether you have income or not, it's a great idea... I've had one since I was 6 years old!

If you get a youth account, the bank will generally not charge interest, so that's a definite plus :)

Some of my personal favourites, although you might not want to report on these:
White Oleander for a general fiction; it's about a girl who goes through foster care after her mother is imprisoned for murder.
Nightfall by Isaac Asimov for sci fi; it's about a world where there are several suns, so they live in perpetual light, and what happens when the inhabitants experience darkness for the first time.
Tess of the D'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy is a great classic, very sad... I think it surpasses your length restrictions.

Another good sci fi is Ender's Game... I think it would be perfect for your purposes. It's about a boy who is sent to a military academy in space. Really not as lame as it sounds :P I was riveted to the book till I finished it!

First off, I'd kind of ignore some of the advice you've been given. If someone tyyyypeezzzzz like thisss, then it gives them away as being immature. I wouldn't take advice from a 13 year old on this topic.

Well, it is quite likely that you are pregnant. I would recommend talking to maybe one parent at a time, as it will be easier to handle.

Research your options! DO NOT DISCOUNT ABORTION BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST THE MORALS OF OTHERS! It is very hard on a woman's body, especially if she is as young as you are, to carry a baby to term, and it would mean interrupting your schooling AND showing up to school pregnant. You should talk to a doctor about how much harm it would do to your body if you did decide to give birth.

If you do decide to carry the baby to term, I would likely recommend adoption, since it would be very hard on you and the child to raise it yourself... and you want to do what is best for the child.

Have you told your boyfriend? You should probably let him know, if you haven't already. It is his right and his responsibility to know what has happened.

Pretty much, you have to make decisions for yourself. In the end, consider everyone's advice, but make a decision that YOU are comfortable with, whether it be abortion, adoption, or keeping the child.

I for one dance like an idiot, I know I do, but my friends and I have the most fun when we go out dancing just because we don't care what we look like, and we're not trying to impress everyone.

I'd try to avoid the skank factor. It's kind of gross :)

Hate to break it to you, but give it 10 years and it won't matter who you were friends with in high school.

Everything turns around once you leave, even in university the cool groups aren't so cool anymore! Now it's all the smart, nerdy kids who are cooler.

Just be a nice person, usually the popular groups aren't all that nice anyways.

Easy way to get into tongue-kissing... just kind of tickle the other person's lips with your tongue, and gently get it in there... DO NOT go in like you're trying to lick their tonsils though. That's a little scary.

I personally prefer little to no tongue, some people like it a lot... I think it's all a matter of personal preference :)

Honestly, I ALWAYS make an idiot of myself... I just figure that if the guy's worth keeping, then he'll accept me, oddities and all!

Best way to get the best hairstyle (and this is what I did for all of the formals I've been to) is to just tell the stylist what your dress looks like, and let them come up with the best look! Just say, for instance, that you want your hair up, but that you leave it up to their judgment.

Trust me, it works, because the hairstyle you might pick might not go well with your dress, and hairstylists have been doing this for years :)

I did a little research, I was curious too! It turns out that it doesn't die when it hits the air... but when the semen dries up, the sperm die.

I would beg to differ with everyone else here... pastels and really dark colours tend to wash out pale skin. I would go for a medium colour, like a nice green or brown, or maybe a rosy pink.

It's different for everyone... I had mine at 15, some girls I know had theirs at 12...

I made the same mistake when I was younger, it took realizing that it wasn't flattering for me to start dressing more conservatively.

It's really hard when all you see in stores is low-rise jeans and belly tops, because you don't want to dress like your mom! It's hard to make that balance between stylishly dressed and flattering when you don't fit society's mold of "beautiful".

PLEASE don't try to "save" them... I'm an atheist, friends with a ton of Christians, and I really find it offensive when somebody with different beliefs from me tries to push their lifestyle on me. Just because somebody doesn't follow your point of view, it doesn't mean that they're not a good person.

In my opinion, if there is a God, then they would be willing to make exceptions, as I know many Christians who are not good people.

As for your first friend, try not to put a religious spin on it. I agree that he needs help, if he is an alcoholic and using drugs... but don't lecture him on how he's going to go to hell for it... try to let him know that you're concerned about his health and well-being.

As for Jessica, I was in the same position with my best friend. She was a hardcore Christian, and I'm an atheist. She kept pushing her church on me, and inviting me to go, and I tried going a few times to make her happy, but I didn't like it. I really hated when she tried to push her religion on me. So if you want to stay friends with her, don't do that, PLEASE. If she's drinking, then let her know it concerns you... Sexual activity, though, is a decision that everyone makes on their own. Just because abstinence until marriage may work for you, it doesn't mean it's right for her. Not to say that I agree with having sex at an early age, but it isn't against everyone's beliefs to do so.

Brittany is not committing a sin in her eyes. Think about it this way: cursing is only cursing if you attach shock value to the word! Discussing any body part below the neck was once considered akin to cursing... it's all a matter of societal values. Bisexuality is not a huge issue. Just because it's against your religion doesn't mean that she should have to follow your norms.

If you want to stay friends with them, and truly help them, try not to make it sound like a threat! I know that if someone were to tell me that I'm going to hell because I'm acting against a religion's guidelines, I wouldn't feel welcome in that religion. If they have an issue, keep the church out of it, and be a friend to them. What they need is a friend, not a missionary.

I only speak from experience, as I HATE when my friends try to "save" me. I hope you don't take this as an attack on your beliefs, as I respect everyone's right to choose their beliefs. I'm just defending your friends' right to choose.

Well, I'm 18 years old, so I'm sort of an adult, sort of a kid... I guess that gives me a unique perspective :)

It makes my stomach turn to see 13 year olds having sex, and it makes me wonder if my childhood was just particularly sheltered... when I was the age that children are thinking about having sex now, I was still being stupid and running around. I lost my virginity around the age of 18, so it wasn't like I was particularly delayed or morally against it.

I think the reason that kids are having sex earlier is influence from the media and from older people. For instance, it is now acceptable to be a sexually active woman, if not more desirable. I think these kids see it as a way to grow up faster... didn't you want to grow up faster when you were their age?

It doesn't seem to be a huge issue here in Canada from what I've seen, but I see this happening a lot in (not to make an unfair generalization) American children, especially as the government does not sponsor a fair sexual education program that gives information about all facets of sexuality, not just abstinence. I think this is a huge issue. Knowing fully about the consequences of sex from an early age helped me to make a good decision.

To protect kids, parents really have to get involved, and provide the information they're not getting from school themselves.

My Personal Forum

My name is Amanda and I'm 26 years old. I'm currently studying electrical engineering. Armed with a fairly odd sense of humour and a sunny outlook on life, I'll take on just about anything. I'm also cussedly stubborn, which has its ups and downs. Things get tough sometimes, and I've never been one to run from it.

In my last 8 years with Advicenators, I've gone from honours student to failing out of university (and getting back on top again!), from single to married, from tenant to homeowner.

Until lately, I have been struggling with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and OCD, which had basically ruined my life and taken just about everything from me. I'm thankful every day for every experience I've had because of this ordeal, because it's helped to make me who I am today. Things like that really make you appreciate what you do have. Now that I'm back in work and school and starting to become myself again, I couldn't be happier. I credit Advicenators with saving my life back when I was a teenager, which is a big part of why I'm still here.

I won't necessarily give you the answers you want to hear, but I'll always be honest and do my best to help.
