If I have to choose between those two, Christina by far. Christina has a huge range and a hugely powerful voice. Britney has a pretty decent pop voice, but she sticks to pretty much one octave, which doesn't impress me in the least. They both use auto-tune, I'm sure, but Britney is more computerized than anything, I think. Christina uses more artistic and difficult techniques in her songs. It's pretty cool.
If I can go with option C, Amy Lee from Evanescence. She was classically trained and has a crazy powerful, soul-filled voice. She doesn't belt, she really SINGS. I love and respect it. She also writes her own songs, and she has one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices I've ever heard, and I'm a singer.

Because I'm completely uninterested in whatever music is associated with them, I will instead focus on the aesthetic.
Now, when Britney was in her prime, she was hot as fuck. Ridiculously. When Christina was in her prime, she was a total slut. Which, in my opinion, was also hot as fuck. Which will bring us to today. Britney popped out a few kids and her entire aura of hotness vanished and was replaced with an overweight, slobby, I-don't-need-to-wear-shoes-in-this-public-restroom woman. When Christina popped out a kid, her boobs became moons and she, depending on your point of view, actually became hotter; it depends on whether you prefer slutty Christina or classy Christina, but in reality this is irrelevant because they're both really hot.
In conclusion, while it's a crapshoot as far as who was better in their respective primes, the modern day answer to your question is, by a landslide, Christina Aguilera.

in my opinion, britney. i was never really a fan of hers, but ever since her breakdown she's been trying really hard to get back on her feet, and i think that takes a lot of guts.

Neither. They are not musicians, they are well marketed products. Take my advice and listen to bands that don't have to take their clothes off to get people's attention, like Sleater Kinney or Something Corporate.

Personally, I like Britney more. She doesn't dress as sleazy as Xtina, Brit has a more classy style. Xtina has a great voice, but she's just dissing everyone these days, including some of my favorite artists.

Here's a more important question: Who cares?
Really, they are both mediocre, with moderate staying power. The only thing keeping their careers alive is the marketing of pop via the sex imagery.
Neither of the two are thought invoking. Neither of them push their craft in new directions. They are neither innovators or leaders. They are pawns of a dying industry.
People like to debate which one has the better voice... personally, I don't care for either. I know many singers who are far and away better tonally and stylistically.

It makes me sad, because when you see early tapes of Britney she has a good voice, but she's obviously not using it in her more recent work. :-P
