about

My name's Jennifer, but I'm more commonly known as Jen or Sporkster. I love lots of things/people including God; volleyball and soccer, my two favorite sports; and cheese. I also love Pi, but that's a story for another day.
I've been answering questions on Advicenators for over three years now, so I'm pretty experienced with it. I love answering questions and helping you out anyway I can, so if you've got a question, just ask me!
Ask me about: Christianity, athletics, physical fitness, love-life, relationships, friendships, HTML queries, book suggestions, music suggestions, musical theory, history, English (or Spanish) grammar, Paint Shop Pro 8, skin problems, sports injuries, "punk" fashion, nutrition, etc.

Q: In the morning, when I wake up, my stomach is nice and flat. But after I drink something, or even take two bites of food, it pooches out really big. No matter what I eat or drink, its always puffs out, and if like I`m wearing a cute tank top, after I drink water or something it becomes totally unflattering. What should I do?
A: If you're really thin, your stomach will bloat out no matter what.
I'm extremely thin, and I have really strong abdominal muscles, but whenever I eat my stomach also bloats out.
My advice is to eat well before you go out anywhere, try thirty minutes in advance. This will give your stomach time to digest whatever you just put in it, and the bloating will go away.
Q: alright kids, well my teeth are horribly yellow, like, becoming greenish on the top of them. i know this sounds totally sick but what can i do to change this. don't say go to a dentist because my parents keeps forgetting. so what are some things i can do on my own for this?
A: First off, make sure you brush your teeth thrice a day with a whitening paste.
Secondly, eliminate staining drinks such as coffee, tea, dark sodas, etc., from your diet.
You can also try whitening strips from Crest.
It would be best for you to see a dentist about this, but I can understand the whole parent issue. Just try to remind them anytime they're near a phonebook and phone.
Good luck with whitening your teeth!
Q: I have this not-so-close friend who usually makes up lies to defend herself. She comes from a really protective family... So one example would be "No...I don't really wanna watch that movie" when it's obvious that she's not allowed. Anyway, one day she was talking about how she got her period when she was supposed to go swimming so everyone was like "tampon...duh" & she said it's some kind of "genetic" thing where she can't put one in. Her family is religious (strong catholics...so is everyone else that was sitting there) so I want to know if such a thing exists or if she's just covering up for her not being allowed to use them. thanks!
A: Yes, there is such a thing.
But, why does it matter?
Maybe your friend is embarrassed about her family's rules. Have you ever thought about that?
Don't be mean to the poor girl.
Q: i had my period yesterday..is ok to take like one advil or aleve everyday to reduce cramp pains?
A: Absolutely, as long as it's a safe dose of Advil or Aleve.
Make sure you check with your parents before you take it.
If that doesn't work, try doing some mild exercise--surprisingly, that actually helps.
Hope you feel better soon, 'cause periods suck.
Q: Is it true that if you drink a lot of water at night you'll look healthier and your eyes will not look so tired in the morning??also...is there a such think as drinking TOO MUCH water? thanks!
A: You're recommended to drink at least eight glasses of water a day--that's a nice, healthy amount of water to drink, since most people don't drink that much water anyway.
I'd say drinking more than a gallon of water per day is overdoing it, though. Water is nice, and it's definitely good for you. It's also essential for your body (after all, you're body is 75% water) but too much of it can be dangerous.
Stick to eight 8 ounce servings a day and you'll be fine.
Q: i have the thickest hair in the world- and it's extremely dry, and it's all one length, and it reaches to the middle of my back, i wanna get it cut really bad- nothing too short- but i dont know what yet. any suggestions? also- i dont know what to do about my hair being so dry. ive tried all kinds of moisturizing this and that- but nothing seems to work. PLEASE HELP!
A: I feel your pain--I have extremely long, very thick hair as well. It used to be such a pain to work with, so I got it cut to a few inches below my shoulders in layers. If you want your hair thinned out, get layers. It helps SO much.
As for it being dry, when you shampoo, use one for very dry hair. After shampooing, wring the excess water from your hair. When you've done that, take some good moisturizing conditioner and slather it onto your hair. Wrap your hair up in a towel and wait 5 or 10 minutes. Rinse your hair with lukewarm water. This should help moisturize your hair pretty well. Do this 2-3 times a week, and you'll see a difference. Also, don't wash your hair every night. That'll just strip your hair of its natural oils that keep it moisturized.
I hope my advice helps you!
Q: ok well yes. i know, its a girl question, but im not sure about it. I have a had my period for about 9 months, but this month it hasnt came it was due on the 21st, but it still isnt here, i have never ever had sex. and i dont know what to do! please please tell me its goin to be okay...i dont need to be pregnet at 14...
thanks
scared!
A: Ok, if you've never had sex, you can't be pregnant. So that's already marked out as a possibility.
If you've only had your period for nine months, chances are that it's not going to be regular for a while yet. Periods are bitchy little things--they always come early when you don't want them to and late when you need them to come early! Just relax--stress can prevent you from having your period. Give it a week or two more. If it still doesn't come, you may have just skipped a month.
Ask your mom about it, if you want to. I know I wouldn't, but maybe you would.
Don't worry about it! It's probably just fine.
Q: Do you loose your virginity if you use a tampon? like if it pops your hymen?
A: The simple answer is no. You lose your virginity once you have had sexual intercourse with a partner. Since a tampon is not a penis, you can't lose your virginity to it.
Also, the hymen may "pop" without you being aware. You can break it by competing in vigorous sports, horseback riding, cycling, etc. Some girls are born without a hymen.
I hope this answered your question.

Q: Hello, I am a girl and I want to buy an at home waxing kit for my face, mainly my upper lip and my eyebrows. I have sensitive skin. Im not that educated on waxing. I dont know the difference between, hot waxing, cold waxing, 'sugaring', and no heat waxing, ready to use strips, or something. There seems to be alot of products by sally hansen. My question is, which is the best, easiest, and cheapest one to buy? Keep in mind my skin is a little sensitive, and I dont have alot of money, either. 10 dollars is even alot for me. I also dont want the hair to grow back very fast, i just got a wax on my uperlip and it was a very bad job and grew back in 2 days. Any suggestions on which little kit thing i should buy (no nads)? THANKS!
A: Try the Sugar Wax kit by Sally Hansen. My brother's wife uses it and she says it's great. She has really sensitive skin, so she has to be careful about what products she uses. She says that it goes on really well, and that it doesn't cause any redness or allergic reactions. She said the hair grew back in about two weeks, so it lasts a decent amount of time. The kit isn't that expensive, I don't think, so it'll be easy on your wallet (purse?).
I hope this advice helps you.
Q: i have this really good friend but lately she has been acting different. she says she cuts but i dont know if she is lying because i do cut or she really does. i asked her what she "cut" with and she said i dont remember and she like never has any marks on her. I would like a second opinion because she wont tell me if she is lying or not and i think she is.
A: Why do you care? Are you afraid she's going to say she's cutting so you'll think she's cool or something? Why would someone lie about cutting? If they do, then they're a sicko or desperate for attention. Just don't bother her about it. Cutting is NOT a good thing, no need to encourage her to actually start cutting if she's not already.
Q: I was diagnosed with Viral Meningitis last Sunday. I had a spinal tap done and as a result from that received a "spinal headache". This is where whenever you stand up you have intense pressure on your head and neck. On Wednesday I was able to stand up without this happening, but I feel very tired all the time and have heacaches off and on. Does anybody know when these symptoms will go away?
A: A girl in my class had meningitis a year or two ago. It took her a few weeks to completely heal, but she felt a whole lot better after about four days. I hope you feel better soon! Meningitis is a nasty sickness...
Q: hey whats exima that skin thing where u get red bumps or w\e...what is it? n how can u treat it or prevent it? i always get it, i think, when its cold hitting my skin.thanks!
A: Eczema is a type of chronic rash, I think. A girl in my class has it really bad. She gets a special kind of medicated lotion to put on it, and it stops itching/clears up in a couple of days. If you have eczema, try visiting your doctor and asking him to check it out for you. He can probably prescribe some good medicine for you. I hope this advice helps!
Q: I dont know what to do! My scale says I'm 123,and my mom says its accurate, but I think I weigh a lot more! I'm 13, and i dont know what to do. And i wanna wear a bikini this summer. Any suggestions about exercising?
A: Eat less. Excersize more. Guaranteed weight-loss. Try eating a variety of fruits and vegetables such as apples, oranges, broccoli, carrots, etc. Eat some meats, but lean ones. Meats like chicken and some beef are good for you. Try eating fish too. Salmon and flounder are really nice.
Once you're eating right, try doing some sort of cardioaerobic exercise. Running is the best type of excersize for weight-loss. Just run a little bit each day. All it takes is ten or fifteen minutes each day for a few weeks to get rid of those few extra pounds.
Hope this advice helps! Ask away if you have any more questions.
Q: K...
Every time i wash my hair when it dries it gets all sticky and stiff kind of..like i put gel in it when i rele didnt. i always make sure i rinse it out good, and ive tried various shampoos and conditionerz. WHY IS MY HAIR DOING THIS? it gets so sticky and greasy looking i can never wear it downm.
A: You may be washing your hair too often. Washing hair too often can strip your hair of the natural oils that help keep it soft and silky. Try washing your hair every other day instead of every day and using a good conditioner (such as Pantene) on the ends of your hair. Good luck, and feel free to ask me any additional questions!
Q: I can never eat breakfast- one because I'm a bit lazy because I'm tired and two because I'm not a big fan of it, but I know it's unhealthy not to eat it and I know you can gain weight from not eating it because then you pig out at lunch and the rest of the day. Any suggestions [besides fruit] and please note that I'm on a tight scheduale and don't have alot of time to eat or prepare it [no cereal suggestions, please]
A: Recently scientists discovered that eating yogurt every day can actually help you lose weight over a period of a few months. Extra incentive to eat it now, eh? Well, yogurt is good, especially if you're on the go and need something quick. You could eat a healthy cheese omelet and a glass of milk (eggs take less than a minute to cook). Eat some peanut butter toast with blackberry jam. Eat a bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Eat anything, so long as you eat something! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast can help you have more energy throughout the day (so you won't feel like you need to pig out at lunch or the rest of the day) and it can help you concentrate (helps you especially if you have nasty icky first hour tests at school). Hope my suggestions were appealing to you! Best wishes...(I guess?)
Q: i have a coughing problem and i have no idea what im going to do because it comes so fast and at random times its ruining my life!! okay so in class il just be sitting and il get this feeling in the back of my throat and sometimes its only on one side, and it will make me gag if i dont cough!! and when i do cough my eyes get all watery, and the itchy/weird feeling in my throat wont go away. il have some water and itl go away but then it will come back. im not sick, and this comes only at random times and i always make a big scene cuz i gotta get up and go to the bathroom cuz its so loud and..bad. i hate the feeling!!!! somebody PLEASE HELP ME! ive tried coughdrops/water/gum and it doesnt help!
A: I have the same exact thing going on right now. I went to the doctor this morning, and he said that it's probably allergy-related. He told me to make sure I drank alot of smooth liquids with nutrients in them (ex. orange juice, milk, apple juice) and get plenty of rest. If the coughing doesn't go away in a few days or a week, I would go talk to your doctor about it.
Q: I think I may have a blatter infection. This may sound gross, if it does, I'm sorry. Alot of times whenever I need to use the restroom, I feel like I need to REALLY bad. I try to go, but only a very little comes out and then I get this sharp pain near my blatter and it hurts really bad. When I wipe myself, it looks as if I was bleeding a little down there and I'm not due to get my period for another few weeks. I've been drinking so many liquids all day to try to make myself go to the bathroom, but it just makes it even worse because I still can't go! I'm going to be making an appointment with my doctor to see what the problem may be but in the mean time, I just need a heads up on what might be wrong with me. Can anyone help? I'm a 15 year old female.
A: I wish I could answer your question, but I don't know what the hell a "blatter" is. Perhaps you mean "bladder"? In that case, I advise you to 1) Learn how to spell and 2) Drink plenty of cranberry juice. Something about cranberry juice helps clear up any bladder infection. Hope this helps.
