i have the thickest hair in the world- and it's extremely dry, and it's all one length, and it reaches to the middle of my back, i wanna get it cut really bad- nothing too short- but i dont know what yet. any suggestions? also- i dont know what to do about my hair being so dry. ive tried all kinds of moisturizing this and that- but nothing seems to work. PLEASE HELP!
Another option is to buy a replenishing conditioner or leave-in treatment. VO-5 has hot oil treatments as well as intense conditioning treatments. Their total hair recovery treatment is $6.49 at CVS. Hot oil treatments run between $4 and $6.
Find a good quality shampoo and conditioner. I use John Frieda. It works great on my hair. In my eyes, the $5 a bottle I pay for it is well worth it. Have you tried the replenishing shampoos? I do occasionally use them. Nearly every hair product company has one.
As for your cut, I would suggest either thinning, layering, or cutting it. If you cut it, it would probably be best not to do a drastic move. Once in a mood I cut my waist-length hair to my ears. Needless to say when I got over my mood, I was horrified and it seemed like it took forever to grow out long again. Taking it in slow doses will help. IveGotPinkJazzShoes answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 10:45 pm: well you can get specific shapoos and conditioners that are for dry damaged hair so try some of them. also when you have your hair cutask for some layers put inot it. this will thin your hair out so that it doesnt look thick anymore and will be a lot lighter.
hope i helped [ IveGotPinkJazzShoes's advice column | Ask IveGotPinkJazzShoes A Question ]
Brunette27 answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 6:04 pm: You should get your hair angled and layered because it looks good on all colors of hair. As for your hair being dry......i kno it sounds weird but put a little conditioner in it when it's dry.It really does work!!
orphans answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 3:18 pm: if you want to make your hair thinner you should have it layered, my hair was long and thick and i have recently had it layered and i can really tell the difference. it is a lot easier to handle and you will also find that your hair doesnt dry out quite as much as it used to. if it still happens there is a nice dove shampoo that is very good for dry and brittle hair.
hope i could help

Sporkster answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 3:06 pm: I feel your pain--I have extremely long, very thick hair as well. It used to be such a pain to work with, so I got it cut to a few inches below my shoulders in layers. If you want your hair thinned out, get layers. It helps SO much.
As for it being dry, when you shampoo, use one for very dry hair. After shampooing, wring the excess water from your hair. When you've done that, take some good moisturizing conditioner and slather it onto your hair. Wrap your hair up in a towel and wait 5 or 10 minutes. Rinse your hair with lukewarm water. This should help moisturize your hair pretty well. Do this 2-3 times a week, and you'll see a difference. Also, don't wash your hair every night. That'll just strip your hair of its natural oils that keep it moisturized.
LoveNJstyle answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 3:03 pm: well for the dry part...i think getting it cut to about a bit past shoulder lenght should help a bit. try garnier fructice 3 minute masque too. i think it will work for you. you can do it naturally and let your hair get greasy for 2-3 days so the natural oils will keep hair healthy and dont wash more than once a day. hope this helps! <3 [ LoveNJstyle's advice column | Ask LoveNJstyle A Question ]

Saynotogymclass answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 2:52 pm: I have really thick hair too. Mine is just below the shoulders, so that might help. If you cut your hair to short, because it is so thick it will be really poofy, so that is something to think about. About your dry hair, I use Dove and it works pretty good, so you could try that. It has special moisturizers in it to make your hair really soft!
sarcasticgal1221 answered Tuesday July 26 2005, 2:51 pm: For a hair cut, I would suggest some layers to make your hair more manageable.
As for your hair being dry, use a moisturizing shampoo and a deep conditioner every time you wash your hair. I have heard that mayonaise works, though never had the guts to try it. Try not to go outside when your hait is wet. NEVER heat style your hair. This includes blow-drying. [ sarcasticgal1221's advice column | Ask sarcasticgal1221 A Question ]
