Stomach Pooching Out?

Question Posted Thursday July 20 2006, 5:48 pm

In the morning, when I wake up, my stomach is nice and flat. But after I drink something, or even take two bites of food, it pooches out really big. No matter what I eat or drink, its always puffs out, and if like I`m wearing a cute tank top, after I drink water or something it becomes totally unflattering. What should I do?

Normally, bloating happens as a result of trapped wind, which can be caused by a number of things from eating too quickly, to eating foods that are gassy, to a digestive or gastrointestinal illness or disorder. If you aren't getting any other problems at the same time as the bloating, my guess would be that it is either the food you are eating or the way you are eating it.

You could try slowing down when you eat. I naturally eat very quickly so I always have the same problem myself. When you eat, make yourself chew each mouthful at least 20 times before swallowing and don't take another mouthful until a few seconds after swallowing.

You could also try a probiotic yoghurt or drink, as these contain an ingredient (at this particular moment in time i can't quite remember what it is) that helps to reduce abdominal discomfort and bloating. Activia and Actimel are both very good for this and most often these products can be located at normal supermarkets. They recommend you have at least one a day and you should notice a difference.

If after a period of time, you notice that it gets worse or you are starting to experience other symptoms, such as constipation or diarrhoea (or both) then make sure you speak to your doctor about the possibility of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

It's completely normal. No matter how skinny you are, everyone bloats especially after eating or drinking anything, especially water. (It's just your body's way of retaining water.) It's nothing to be worried about, but if you feel like you are too bloated, go to the store or Walgreens & get medicine.

If you're really thin, your stomach will bloat out no matter what.

I'm extremely thin, and I have really strong abdominal muscles, but whenever I eat my stomach also bloats out.

My advice is to eat well before you go out anywhere, try thirty minutes in advance. This will give your stomach time to digest whatever you just put in it, and the bloating will go away.

That happened to me last year! Isn't it so flipping annoying?! Well, to help out with this, I would say to excersize before you eat or drink anything. So you can burn up the calories before you eat more calories. And also, excersize after you eat or drink too, to burn more of the fat off. If you have DDR play it every time before and after you eat and drink. If you don't have DDR, then run on a tredmill for a little bit, or go for a 30 minute walk or jog or do 40 crunches. Just do any kind of calorie burning excersize BEFORE and AFTER you eat or drink, and your stomach won't be so large after you eat or drink. Well, it worked for me so if people dissagree with my answer, I'm living proof that my plan worked.

Hope I helped.
