disregarding the old adage,"If it looks too good
to be true,it probably is".....WELL.......I've
just seen an advert in a very reputable magazine(Saga),offering broadband speeds for £24.99 per year!!...www.onspeed.com......What advice would
you offer anyone thinking of taking this on???
I am a senior citizen and would grab this with open arms.

Ok, I went and checked out their site. Im not sure if you already realise this but here is a short quote from their description: "ONSPEED is the solution for millions of Internet users who are frustrated by having a slow Internet connection and is a real alternative to Broadband. ONSPEED is a software download which utilises a unique 9 patent approved compression technology that increases your existing Internet connection speed by up to 5 times."
So, its software and it speeds up whatever connection you already have. The big question is if it can really speed up a crappy connection as much as it can (NOTE they claim "UP TO" 5 times- not just 5 times). Anyway considering what they offer its not too good to be true- you need a connection already, you then pay them money on top of whatever you already pay, and then they or may not increase your speed significantly. It most definately isnt. Also, if you are eating diverse types of food you wont be lacking anything in particular (though everyone will probably benefit from a vitamin pill). Tell your friends that vegetarians enjoy many advantages over meat eaters. Most live longer healthier lives because their diet tends to be lower in saturated fat, cholestrol etc. Also, the protein requirements are far more easily met then most meat eaters think. How you get your protein best depends on what type of veggie you are (i.e if you still eat dairy products, or eggs or fish or if you a vegan). Anyway, we have had at least one vegetarian Mr Universe and (if memory serves) a few iron man winners (or whatever that competition is called). Sry to go on like this, but the short answer is you are probably better than ok.

Proper, healthy long term weight loss is dependant upon a change of lifestyle. You shouldnt diet, its generally bad for you or will make you prone to regaining the weight later. What you need to do is to slowly change your eating habits towards a balanaced diet. Dont omit any food group, just eat smart and keep saturated fats (from butter, lard, fatty meat etc) low. Then you create a small calorie deficit (say 300 to 500) and/ or increase your excercise level. The key thing here is to keep your metabolism working at a high rate. Starving yourself or eating rarely has the opposite effect. Make sure you eat 4 to 6 small meals a day. Also the most effective things you can do to elevate your metabolism and burn fat is to do weights. However if this falls under the "boring exercise" heading then just pick a sport you have fun with. As for the cravings, thats the really hard part. All i can say is that if you give in to them at any point, dont give up everything else. Most people think like this, they say "oh what the hell, I ate that burger I might as well have some ice cream". If you fall of the horse, just get back on and keep riding.
Oh, and this is just to clarify since the person above me clearly misunderstood what I was saying- I dont mean you should eat 300 to 500 calories a day, I am saying you should cut that from your diet (eg eating say 1700 cals instead of 2000- depending on your requirements).

What sort of advice do you want? What you are doing is morally wrong in every conceivable way. You are showing no respect for your boyfriend, you are risking the future of a family (the guy´s) and you are living a lie. Think about it, whatever you think you have with your bf is meaningless because relationships are (or should be) based on trust. Whatever you have with that guy is short term unless he is planning to divorce his wife for you. Then, even if he does divorce her, how long will that last- until one of you finds another person to cheat with? In my opinion if your bf means anything at all to you, you owe it to him to either break up with him or come clean. Just remember the more you hide from him, the more your relationship is a lie, and the more angry he will be if he finds out.

Ok, to answer your question I will tell you what a teacher of mine once said. When I was in school years ago (I went to a catholic school for a period) the subject was brought up in religion class. The guy said that that it doesnt say anywhere in the bible that its a sin. Lust is a sin, so if you dont think dirty then it itsnt technically a sin. Now, some folks will tell you to read between the lines. In my opinion you cant and should not do that with any religious document of whatever faith- either the thing is totally right or totally wrong, anything else is second guessing the words of whichever diety one believes in.

Hey i was looking at your response to a question about doing sit-ups and in your response you wrote this: "using a small weight either on your chest or behind your head (taking care not to push the weight against the head as you excercise) and doing sets of 15-20 or so" What do you mean by that? Like you lie down and put a weight on your stomach and then do crunches? And what do you mean you put it behind your head?? Like on the floor?? Huh?? Plz explain!! :-)

Actually now that I see the quote I realise I made a small error. For crunches it can only be behind the head, not on the chest. Basically you grasp the weight with both hands and hold it behind your head, just above your neck- so your head literally rests on it as you lie on your back. Then you hold it against your head as you do the crunches, so the weight is lifted every time you go up. The important thing is not to press your head upwards with the weight as you do the crunches (which many people do ) because it can cause neck injury. Just hold the weight with your fingers in a fixed position against your head as you excercise. Hope this is clear enough, if not get back to me and I will try to find a link with pictures. Oh, and btw the weight on the chest thing is something one uses on inclined sit ups at the gym (thats why I made the mistake- the original subject being sit ups).
Hey, Im going to answer your second question here- hope you see this. I had of bit of trouble figuring that IM thing out (remember I am an old guy lol). Anyway, the weight on your chest is used for inclined sit ups. You can only do those on a special bench (level of incline can vary). It describes how to use the weights. To be honest, I am not sure if the same technique can be effectively applied to use weights with a regular sit up, since I havent seen it done. Hope this helps though.

Why on earth are you doing that? Sit ups in general are not great excercises for your abs- crunches are much better. But to answer your question yes it could be bad because situps might damage your back. Now, even if you were doing 3-600 crunches, what a waste of time that is. You are far better off using a small weight either on your chest or behind your head (taking care not to push the weight against the head as you excercise) and doing sets of 15-20 or so. You would get quicker results and more powerful abs.

ok...there is this guy at my school and i like him alot...my friends told me he thinks im hot and they all think he likes me...during lunch he looks at me all the time and whenever im talking to people, he'll come up and sit next to me..hes a pretty shy person, its not like he jumps all over me, but ive noticed that he stares and always tires to be next to me...the only problem is that he is already going out with someone...she doesnt go to our school, and he never talks about her..when we first met, i was talking to him and we crossed the b/f, g/f subject and he didnt say anything about his g/f. i found this out through my friend...i really like him and im not sure what to do...since your a guy, you probably know what hes thinking...HELP!!

Ok, I think its pretty clear that he likes you. Now, as to what he is thinking basically it can be one of three things as I see it. On the one hand he could be really confused because he really likes you and doesnt know what to do. Perhaps he still has feelings for his gf and is trying to come to terms with the new feelings he has for you. The second option is that he is not confused but rather is trying to make sure he can get you before he dumps his gf (many many guys think like this). The third option is that he is planning to play you both in some way (unfortunately plenty of guys think like this too). Now, you are clearly in a better position than me to make a judgment of character on this guy. However, I would shoot for option 1 as being very likely based solely on your question info. The fact that he is shy is usually a good sign. Anyway, why not proceed as if you dont know, go out with him if thats what you want, but have your friend keep you updated on his gf situation. Then if things look like they might get serious between you and he hasnt dumped her, you know that theres something wrong. Anyways best of luck to you and drop me a note if you resolve this.

Im sorry you guys, but I noticed that a LOT of youngins say they love theyre boyfriend or gf...so I was wanting to know, what do you guys consider love...because 13-16 is really young, i dont know I could be wrong, but what do you consider love??

well all i can say is that when I was young (many moons ago lol) I definately felt love, similarly to how i do now. By love I mean that strong sensation where you feel like theres a rugby team jumping in your stomach every time you think of the girl in question. The kind of feeling where you would risk your life for her. Recently someone asked if you could feel love in 8th grade- I know i certainly could.

ok strange stuff has been happening to me I see like some thing happen in my head then they actually come true and soem times I will cry for know reason and then some thing later that day or week some thing really really sad happend weather its on tv or at home and then I told my friend that my cat might die becuz she was really sick and I promise 5 minutes later the vet called to tell us she died I think I am becomeing a freak

Ok, look as I see it theres nothing to worry about. Taking the purely logical open minded approach, one of two things is happening to you. 1- You have certain expectations about events that are liekly to happen. You worry or think about them and then you dream an outcome. Because these events were likely to happen, they do actually happen and you think its a preminition (after all, your cat was sick to start off with). 2 You really are becomming psychic. Im not saying that I believe in option 2, but keeping an open mind its not the worst thing that could happen to someone. However, try to see if perhaps there are events that you dreamt that HAVENT come true. Let me give you an example of how many people think- whenever theres an accident, say a plane crashes, you will always get people who have had a preminition about it. The problem is they forget that they often worried about the possibility of an accident when nothing happened. The true test is therefore not if some events you dream occur, but rather if some events you dream do NOT occur. Hope this helps and dont worry about it too much.

ok, i have a thin body, like a really thin waist, but i have reallyyy big hips and a big butt...which is nice to a certain extent, but i want my hips and upper thighs to be a little thinner...any exercises anyone knows of that are good?

I keep repeating this on this site because people give crap misleading advice on fitness. You wont like what i have to say (no one does) but believe me its the truth- just check it out yourself. Here goes... there is no way, no how, never ever possible to lose fat from a specific area of the body. No exercise can do this we simple do NOT work that way. You can lose weight in general but the order of fat loss is decided by our genes and thats that. You can only work on adding muscle to an area which might (at most) tighten it up a bit giving the illusion that theres less flab (but will also likely make the area bigger). Now, if you want to lose the weight do not listen to the imbeciles that tell you to do crunches or whatever, these exercises should be a part of an overall workout routine because in the end what counts are the calories you burn and the food you eat.

Apart from what everyone else wrote theres another problem (I will answer your question, bear with me). When you dont eat, your body goes into famine mode. It slows down your metabolism and then digests the easiest thing possible, which unfortunately is MUSCLE (fat is very hard to break down which is why proper weight loss is a science). Then to make matters worse, when you do eventually eat you will be FAR more prone to gain weight in FAT, because of your slow metabolism. So, to answer your question- you do lose weight but its largely the wrong kind. Then you will either get sick (or die) from malnutrition or eventually eat and gain weight in fat. Its a no win situation believe me.

Well the short answer is yes. The long answer is you will (unfortunately) have the deck stacked against you. However, if you really are (or will be) good then you can make it. But you definately need to have plenty of patience with the sexist crap along the way.

does anyone have any exercize ideas on lik how to loose weight on your calves and your upper part of your arm....websites with pictures of exercizes would help and how many crunched should i do a day if i want a flat stomach in 2 weeks?

Listen to me very very carefully. Fitness advice on this site is dreadful. There is NO excercise on earth that will make you lose weight from a specific area of the body. That is a myth, our bodies dont work this way. You can ONLY add muscle to a specifc area, not lose fat there (fat loss happens overall in the body and the order is decided by our genes). As they get easier, you should use a small weight behind your head to keep the reps to no more than 20 or so. Otherwise you are wasting your time. okay well there is this guy in tent grade that i used to tlak 2.. but then we just stoped all together. But this year he started tlkain to ma freind. I never liked him more than a frend but he sorta gave the jive that he liked me. Now i dont know why, but I am sortof feeling jealose, which is absolutely not like me. can you help?

This is a really tough queston. As I see it, you might be jealous for one of three reasons. 1 You miss the friendship or you feel replaced in some way, 2 You like him more than you realised (either as a friend or otherwise), 3 You liked the idea that he liked you, maybe it made you feel special or attractive, and now you lost that. The thing is that we all have very strong competitive instincts when it comes to the oposite sex. Sometimes its really hard to understand them because they arent really that compatible with the way we live these days. Guys can get jealous in reaction to seeing women they arent all that interested in socialising with other men. Thats just because they feel outdone in some basic way. Anyway dont know how helpful this was but try to consider these options and see if they might apply in some way. Best of luck.

Well its hard to say because dogs are different (would be helpful if you mentioned the breed). But heres a couple of things that might be helpful 1- Dogs are usually very affected by the mood- if you get exited/active they get active 2- Puppies rarely know when they are tired, so after you play with him and run him around a bit, give him the chance to relax and nap 3- chew toys help for most dogs (obvious i know) 4- Even the most atention seeking dogs will give up if you ignore them rather than get agitated. Sry its not much but its all I can think of now

Hey, I would like to know if you all can tell what is wrong with my finger and if I should go to the doctor. Wednesday night, I was at gymnastics messing around, and as I went for a back tuck, my middle finger jammed into my leg... then about 3 minutes later, I jammed it again into a panel mat (a hard mat in case you dont know) same finger and everything. My coach didnt care because i shouldnt have been messing around, so I went through the rest of practice ignoring the pain. Its now 2 days later, and im getting shooting pains throughout it, my whole finger is about 1 1/2 the size of the other, and my knuckle in the middle of my finger is twice the size of the other and i cant feel from there down to the end of it. I have it taped together for now, but it hurts to even write, im typing this without it. Im sorry its long, but i cant decide if I should go to the docot Monday and get x-rays jus to make surem or relax and let it heal on its own because of an expierience with shoulda been broken foot since i didnt go to the doctor right away. Today, I had to call home for some medicine to help with the pain. So, what do you all think of this situation (any of you who read this)...?

Due to my love of sports I have broken or fractured all but 2 of my fingers. Let me tell you that you dont need to go to the doctor but its a good idea to do it. I have never gone and, well, Im still alive, but a couple of my fingers look like they should belong to one of the witches in Macbeth. They work fine but look terrible (bent funny and a bit lumpy here and there). If you want to avoid that have them properly treated (tape may not be adequate).
Oh, I almost forgot, the symptoms you describe fit perfectly with a broken finger and are exactly what I had.

Definately if he has a gf then the guy is scum. First make sure that he does indeed have one. Then I would recommend two things 1- Get in his face a bit, perhaps making references to his... questionable parentage and 2- telling his girfriend what he did. Whether or not you choose either option, at least dont see him anymore, he isnt worth it.

I spent some time and read what everyone wrote before me. Theres a lot of mixed advice, some good some bad. The key is to change your lifestyle and to raise your metabolism not to take a quick fix (of all the people who wrote stuff pay most heed to that rainbowpolka person). Its not enough to say "go excercise" or "dont eat". I will give you some tips on how to eat and excercise to lose weight and keep it off in the long term. 1- Eat 4-6 small meals a day (this raises your metabolism) 2- eat balanced, dont omit any food groups but minimise saturated fat (eg from lard, butter, fatty meat that sort of thing) 3- create a small calorie deficiency (this shouldnt be very large, just enough so you feel a little hungry when you go to sleep) 4 Excercise regularly and do weights(aerobics/running are good for you but only weight/ resistance training will raise your metabolism all day long) 5 dont starve yourself or eat rarely because this will SLOW your metabolism and make your body digest your muscles 6 plan your meals in advance so that any larger meals take place earlier in the day prior to any workouts rather than afterwards. Thats what comes to mind at the moment. Best of luck and feel free to ask me for more info if you need it.
