I stopped playing volleyball a year ago. I still work out when I'm not working. I notice I am gaining love handles and a little bit of a gut. What are some easy exercises I can do at home that can reduce these? Thank you =]
The answer below is good. I just wanted to add that in order to lose the fat, you have to start making your body lose weight. This implies that you require a negative calorie balance. In short, you can do all the cardio in the world from here to Tokyo, but you wont lose a gram if you dont eat right (less than you burn).
So, focus on diet and cardio. If you want to throw some ab work into it then heres a link:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm
Click on abs and there will be a number of exercises you can do at home.
Now, just a friendly reminder, that theres a search function on this site. Its rarely used, but its made for just these sort of questions that are being asked on a daily basis.
Good luck.
I want to get someone a computer for Christmas Im thinking a laptop enless they're worse then a desktop. So would it be better to get a laptop or a desk top and what ones would be good to get like the brand processor stuff like that?/?
I agree with Russianspy. The thing is you got to figure out what this person's needs are. How neccessary will it be to move the computer and how often will he/she take it along? Will the computer be used for gaming or any other activity that would benefit from higher powered graphics, bigger screen, larger keyboard etc?
I have seen people I know buy labtops without needing them. That equals money out the window. For a select few its the right way to go, but if the thing will mainly stay at home, desktops are more powerful and more comfortable to use (at the same price).
For how many minutes would i have to jump rope a day to lose weight?
The way you phrased that question makes it impossible for anyone to answer concretly. Simply put, since weight loss is the result of a negative calorie balance, it depends on how much you eat.
However, a workout of 30 mins or so is always a good starting point to condition your body.
me and my bf for two months had a really big fight the other day, he saw me just talking to some guy and he assumes i am flirting he says that his friends tell him that i flirt alot to. so since i dint have a chance to tell him how i felt when we fought, i texted him telling him how i felt about him and at the end of the text i said (u dont have to reply if you dont want to)and he dint reply now in school we dont talk but we have not broken up. i dont want to go up to him cos i feel i have done my part, what does he want? and what shall i do?
He doesnt want you to do anything specifically. Most probably he is just mad.
So what happens next depends a bit on his personality. Some people just need some time to cool off and then they are approachable again. For others (such as myself) time heals no wounds and we can bear grudges for the rest of our lives. Luckily thats the minority.
Either way, what I would do in your situation is to wait a couple of days. If he doesnt speak to you then I would go up and confront him directly. Dont mince words or apologise, just go up to him and ask him if he still wants the two of you to keep going out or if he planned on breaking up. Tell him that you tried to tell him how you feel, but clearly that is of no importance to him.
Otherwise, another option is to get a mutual friend to talk to him. Personally i lean towards the direct approach though. Try and get him in a discussion, not an argument, otherwise even if he forgives you this problem will resurface next time you talk to some guy.
Good luck.
15/F, 110 lbs., 5'4"
i feel really fat. my body is shaped really awkwardly. i think i'm going to stop eating for a while. i try to work out and eat healthy but nothing works...help...
First of all, dont panic, and dont give up eating. Secondly, unless you are really really short (like 3 feet tall), you arent fat. Edit: just saw you posted your height... ok you are not fat.
Now, if you want good definition, you need to use your muscles. Sports can help, but i would recommend doing weights at the gym. You will build a little lean mass, it will tighten your body up a bit, and it will raise your metabolism making fat loss easier.
As for eating, you need to eat often. Try to eat 5 meals a day or so, which means eating every 3-4 hours. Eat a small balanced meal each time and drink plenty of water. This will also work wonders on the metabolism and it will give you more energy. Remember to eat a fair amount of protein and to eliminate saturated fats as much as possible (do get your essential fatty acids though... i.e. fish, nuts, olive oil, olives, flax oil, canola etc).
If you stop eating you will cause real damage to your metabolism. Its the fitness equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. Your body will go into starvation mode and eat up your muscle mass first. This will make your body look much worse, it will leave you weak and it will make you regain the weight (in pure fat) the minute you being to eat again.
The answer is to exercise and eat very often. Trust me and give it a few months. You will look better i guarantee it.
hey boys, do you like it when a girl is a tomboy? would you rather have a girl who loves to watch the game with you and can talk about football actually understanding it, or a total girly girl who loves shopping and other girlish things?
I would prefer the tomboy.
my boyfriend always checks other girls out on the street, it really bugs me and am scared its cuz he's lookin for someone better? should i be worried? please let me know and do all guys do this , he tells me he loves me but im not so sure cuz it bothers me :( help~
That in itself means nothing. Most guys (including myself) do this subconsciously.
You know how you hear that guys think about sex all the time? Well, I never agreed with that, because most of the time if we are checking out someone, we arent thinking anything at all.
Women tend to put a lot more emphasis on these small things, but to a guy they carry no relevance. So, he is not trying to hurt you, he is not comparing you to anyone else, he isnt looking for a girl, he probably isnt even thinking about sex. He is just looking.
What is the average intake of calories per day for a 15 year old girl who is trying to lose 5 pounds?
http://www.stevenscreek.com/goodies/calories.shtml
This should give you a rough idea. Like the answer below said, remove 300 cals (up to 500 will be ok but definately not more) and you will be well underway.
15/f. is it weird that i don't shave my entire "pubic" area completely off? i just shave around the edges but not all of it.
in a guys opinion is that weird?
Opinions amongst guys differ here, so do what you prefer and thats that. Personally I prefer it when a girl doesnt shave.
you answered my question on low carb diet. if you think thats a bad thing, then what do you suggest i try ?
Hey ok, sry for not answering this right away been very busy at work. Anyway, the right way to do it is to eat balanced and to eat often. By balanced I mean all the macronutrients (carbs, protein and fats) in the right forms and quantities.
The idea behind each meal is to get a good portein source (skinless chicken/ turkey, lean beef, fish, cottage cheese, egg whites etc.), a good carb source (in moderate amounts e.g. a potato, 50g pasta, a piece of fruit, a slice of whole wheat bread, some oats, etc) and a small amount of a good fat source (olive oil, canola, nuts of all sorts- not salted, oily fish).
Ok hope you dont mind but I will just cut paste something I wrote for an identical question recently. Some of it will repeat what I just said, but it should be more organised:
"1. Eat 4-6 small meals every day evenly spaced every 3-4 hours or so. This is very important for your metabolism. Divide your calories more or less evenly between these meals, though eating a bit more before periods of activity and a bit less before periods of rest.
2. Eat balanced meals and drink lots of water
3. Avoid saturated fats and things that have sugar added (that takes care of most of the "crap" one eats). Note most of the "bad" fats come from animal products (fatty meats, cheeses, butter, etc). Read the labels.
4. Make sure you get enough protein. Base your meals around a good protein source like skinlees chicken/turkey, lean beef, cottage cheese, tuna etc. A meal could thus be 200g cottage cheese, an apple and a small handful of walnuts, or it might be 150g of skinless chicken breast, a salad made with a good oil and 50g of pasta. Breakfast could be a bowl of oats with skim milk and a couple of boiled egg whites. Note that the actual size of the portions should be determined by your calorie count.
Heres a calorie calculator. These things are never totally accurate in my opinion, but it will give you a good start.
http://www.stevenscreek.com/goodies/calories.shtml
Aim to eat 500 calories less than you burn every day. So figure out your total, subtract 500 and then divide the remainder by 5 (or however many meals you have that day). You can get a feel for this by trial and error, but doing it mathematically can help at the beginning.
As for exercise, anything is good, however I think a combination of cardio and weights is best. When you do cardios like running, its best done in the morning before breakfast."
Mind you, its not neccessary to count calories, one can do it by trial and error, but it can be a good guide at the beginning.
Good luck to you.
Edit: Oh right, and most imporantly, dont look upon it as a diet. This is a sustainable lifestyle change. Therefore it should be gradual, and should allow the odd cheat day here and there.
what are some good low carb foods that i can eat ? i am starting a low carb diet because i really want to loose some weight .
Im no fan of the low carb diet, but heres some examples:
- Meat
- Fish
- Poultry
- Some vegetables (fruit have sugar which = carbs), lettuce, things like that... i.e. not the sweet tasting ones
- Eggs
- Nuts
- Many cheeses (cheddar for example has only 1.3 grams of carbs per 100g)
- Lard (had to throw that in... just to show why low carb does not equal healthy)
There, thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck, but do consider what you are going to do once you come off the diet... thats when most people put the weight right back on.
is it true you can orgasm really fast. because my friend said you can. is it bad. will you get made fun of?
Im assuming you are a guy right? Since I would suppose that would be good news for a woman...
If so, then the answer is yes. Its called premature ejaculation and a lot of guys have it happen to them at some point in their lives. In most cases though its something that happens when inexperienced guys get overly aroused. In some rare cases there are guys that generally have a problem with this, and have to learn how to control their orgasm.
I wouldnt really worry about being made fun of, though I suppose that it might depend on the girl. Presumably she will understand that these things can happen and that its not the end of the world.
As for it being bad, the answer is again yes. Thats because if you finish too soon the woman wont really get much out of it.
However, dont worry about it. This is not something that all guys get. For most that do its a one off thing, and 20 minutes later they are ready to "fix" their mistake. There is no need to concern yourself with problems that you probably dont have.
soo, i'm 15 F, and I just had a crazy night. I've had a crush on my english teacher for a while. he's 42 but is extremely hot and sweet. I thought he never noticed me, but it turns out he did. Yesterday afternoon, i went to his office for extra help and one thing led to the next. I ended up performing oral sex on him(with a condom), we made out for a while, and he fingered me and gave me oral sex. I like him so much, how can I continue the relationship without getting him or me in trouble and without people finding out?
You are heading down a very dangerous path here, one that will likely end up with your teacher going to jail. I have to confess that at this point I am thinking that jail is exactly where this guy deserves to be.
Let me be blunt. This relationship is going nowhere. It has no future at all, and it is almost certain that the only thing he is after is sex. From what you are writing its clear you have feelings for this guy, and you will end up being hurt sooner or later.
This is a time when you must learn to listen to your mind not your feelings. If you think about this, you should be able to see that I am right. Its hard enough for a 25 year old to relate to a 15 year old, but a 42 year old guy... not a chance.
It is very likely that you will regret this later in life, and if this gets out think of what people will say. Bluntly put, you have everything to lose here and (whether you see it or not) nothing to gain.
i know this sounds really weird but i really need to lose weight fast. a lot of people have probably had these diseases but which one works better, anorexia or bulimea? i need one of them and i just cant say why but please just tell me which is better
Actually I have a far more effective third option. I personally guarantee that with what i am about to suggest you will lose weight FASTER than with either anorexia or bulimea. Of course there are health risks, but then again nothing ventured nothing gained right?
Anyway here is the absolute fastest way to lose weight, and about as healthy as the options you suggested:
Saw off a body part. Yes, in just a few minutes you could lose anywhere up to 50lbs or so.
As far as quick fixes go, this is as quick as they get...
Alternatively you could try to get your eating and exercising in order and lose weight without endagering your health/life. Its harder, but in health and fitness you get as much as you put in. Dont make the wrong choice, you might end up paying for it far worse than you imagine.
i have smoked pot a couple of time....and cigerettes. my mom and dad know about the cigerettes...but not the pot. do i need to talk to someone about my problem....or should it phase?
Its not that big an issue. The answers that said that pot is not as addictive as ciggs are correct. It is also far less harmful (in just about every way) than alcohol for example, to take another socially accepted drug. Thats not to say its harmless, it certainly isnt, however its not all that serious.
So, there is no need to talk to anybody. Just stop smoking. There is no physical addiction to pot, and you only smoked a couple fo times, so you shouldnt have all that much trouble. As I see it, you dont have a problem.
k so i know i dont have that good of self confidence.. does it atract girls or turn girls off if so tell me how i can change this please.. i have a problem with being happy with myself
15/m
In my experience the self confident guy is many times more successful when it comes to women. If you look at the shy guys that girls find so addorable, usually they are also very good looking. You will hardly ever see an ugly or even plain looking shy guy be popular with the girls. However, you will very often see self confident guys that arent lookers be fairly successful (sometimes really successful).
So, if you look really good, I wouldnt give it much thought. If you dont, the shy guy thing wont get you very far imo.
As for how to change... well thats not so easy. Start being more assertive, stick to your opinions and so on. At the beginning you could even treat it like acting. In the long run you have to come to terms with who you are. Being happy with yourself, or at least with aspects of your personality, is an important step in getting real self confidence.
Do guys dig chicks with glasses? I need to get glasses I think, and I'm already short, fat, and kind of ugly. Now I need glasses. Now will the boys think I am uglier than before?
Generally on average guys dont care about glasses one way or the other. You will find some that like them and some that dont, but most wont care. Their perception of you will not really change much, although if I was forced to pick one side or another I would say that it is more likely to have a negative than possitive effect. I hope for you it doesnt, but unfortunately people are only "beautiful no matter what" in tv shows. Regretfully reality does not work this way no matter how hard people wish that it did.
i love my dog, and i know she loves me too, because whenever im crying she always comes and licks me or lays next to me. But most of the time she follows my mom around and i cant get the feeling she doesnt like me, even though she does, you know? How do i bond with her, or get her to like me and maybe even follow me around??
I need help.
Some dogs bond more with a single person that with a whole family (or so they say). Personally, I have always bonded very well with just about any dog. You just have to appeal to the things that they value. For pretty much all dogs thats food, play, and patting (generally in that order). Spend time with the dog, throw the ball for her, give her treats, and pretty soon she should be following you around as well.
Ok here's how it roles, i need to know some good workouts for Pecs, back, and abs. any help greatly aprreciated
Ok you got great advice before, but I might as well tell you what I prefer:
Pecs: Bench press & incline dumbell press-fly
Back: Deadlifts, dumbell or barbell row, pull ups or cable pull downs (usually palms facing close grip to get the biceps more involved)
Abs: Dont really train them much (all the compounds + sports seem to hit my abs plenty), usually throw in 2 sets of crunches on my leg day.
Anyway heres a link you might find useful, its to a bodybuilding site... shows how to do all sorts of exercises:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm
I'm skinny...I'm like 5'8 and 127 lbs. but like my stomach has a lot of fat on it and no matter how many sit ups and crunches and all that i do it will not go away!!! Last year I was around 115 and my stomach was soo flat. I want it back!
The answer below is totally correct. What you are doing with crunches is building up muscle underneath, not actually burning the fat. Apart from cardio, as suggested below, the other crucial element is your diet. You have to lose weight overall in your body its the only way to get rid of the fat. That means eating right and eating less than you burn.
