about

Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

i've grown up going to a christian church and school and i pray everyday but i've never felt God's presence before...

i try to have faith and seek him but it's hard when i don't feel he's there and i feel like there's a hole in my life and i feel lonely but i just don't feel like i'm a christian even though i want to be.

how do i become a christian even though i've already been praying and going to church and have seeked him but don't feel anything??

I don't know exactly what to say to you for the reason that I've felt that same way for a while now.

Like you, I want to feel God and just know in my heart that He's here, but I've never really felt that way.

I expressed my feelings to a religious friend (I believe she's Baptist), and this is what she told me: (By the way, her daughter was just a few months old when she wrote this - and I think she also mentioned her daughter because she and I share a birthday)

"You don't always feel God. He isn't a feeling. That is an assumption that many people make--that it is an emotional experience to "find God". God wants your faith and trust much more than He wants you emotions. Trust me--there is a God. Have you seen my amazing baby girl lately? Someone had to be in charge of designing that whole process--conception, growth, birth. Most Christians take God for granted just like you described--the mindset that you only pray/talk to God when you need Him. When things are going good, most just forget. But He wants us to depend on Him. I feel much more confident knowing that God is planning out my life without my help. That's how I got my wonderful husband and adorable daughter. It's how I wound up coming to Concord and teaching your class. God puts us where He wants/needs us."

So that's what she told me - that God isn't a feeling and that just because I don't feel him deep down, that doesn't mean he isn't there. I try to remind myself that not feeling him doesn't mean he isn't there, and trust me - I know exactly what you're going through.

It's still hard on me to try and believe in Him because it just feels weird to put my trust in someone/something that I don't feel at all. I have friends who are so into God and religion, which makes is awkward because they appear to have the feeling that you and I seem to be missing.

I just wanted to comment this and let you know that I'm going through the same thing you are. So if you ever want to talk about this, let me know - message me to my inbox or anything.

It's really complicated, the way that you and I feel. It's like, I want to be Christian, but I just can't put my full self into it if I don't feel it. Maybe you feel a little differently about it than I do, but reading your question just made me feel like, thankkkk goodness I'm not the only one who feels that way! You made me feel like I'm not alone or crazy for feeling the way I do -- like I want to believe in God and put my faith in him, but it's hard when I don't actually *feel* his presence. So now I hope that, through answering this, I let you know that you're not the only person who feels this way!

My laptop is HP, forgot the model number, it recently turn off by itself and I asked my roommate about it and she said maybe it overheated. I bought a fan and placed it under my laptop but doesn't seem to help any--it KEEPS turning off by itself and it's really aggravating. So is there any other reason besides overheated? Reformat help?

thanks

Is there a problem with the battery?

Also, you mention your roommate -- does that mean you're in college? If that's the case, ask the tech people at your school. I don't know if it's just at my college, but we have tech services who will look at and fix your laptop for free.

My facebook got disabled by facebook because me and my friend got in a fight. I got a warning when we were in a fight but i Messaged her again to apologize. Once I did this my account got disabled. I emailed them a bunch of times and she also emailed them for me and they never answered us. Will I ever get my account back I do not want to make a new one?

According to the Facebook FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), the only thing you can do is e-mail them. That means that you've done all that you can.

http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=421

If you scroll down, they let you know that going against the ToS (Terms of Service) they will disable your account. If you feel they did so in error, e-mail the address they give you from the address you used to set up your account. Explain yourself, etc.

Eventually they will get back to you letting you know whether or not you've been removed from their site for good.

Chances are, they've deleted your account for harassment and you'll have to create a new account. However, you better be really careful to follow their ToS with your next account because they may disable your account for making a second after the first was disabled.

i looked it up on google, and it seems like a shit idea, but people have told me to give it a chance before i do anything, because its not one that will send the police. could anyone list the questions they ask, cos i don't want to give away too much about myself, and if they think im in 'danger' will they track me down, cos i need to know, otherwise i won't bother calling them.
thanx

I've never called that number myself, but I did look up what others had to say on the matter:

All I can say to you is that suicide is serious. It leaves everyone with questions, blame, hatred, and all sorts of jumbled and horrible emotions. As cliched as this sounds, it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

If you're considering suicide, tell us here at Advicenators what's going on and why you feel that way - we don't have any personal information on your situation... we can help through talking to you, etc.

Please reconsider doing anything drastic. Call the suicide hotline number or talk to us here. Just don't do anything too drastic.

I have one eye that is bloodshot,
last night it was really bad but now it has calmed down but it is still bloodshot and really heavy,
also i have notice that i have a rash developing on the opposite side breast,
does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this?
:-)
thankss,

While we could each list of different things that can cause this, it will do nothing but make you nervous, paranoid, etc. Nothing any of us say is even remotely close to what it could be, so do yourself a favor and go see a doctor. If you don't have insurance or can't afford a doctor, go to a free clinic or the emergency room where you have to get looked at.

i woke up on sunday morning and my foot was really hurting. i couldnt even walk on them without severe pain shooting up my leg. i looked at it later and my last two toes are waaaaay swollen. they are still swollen now, and i dont think the swelling is going down at all.

does anyone know whats going on with me?

The only person who can know what's going on with you is a doctor. Schedule an appointment and see what's up. It could be serious, it might not be serious... you'll never know until you ask a doctor.

For response of lack of money, there are free clinics, and places like emergency rooms have to help you...

On the Target application it says I have to have the ability to start within 60 days, but I can start within like 70 days....what do i do? I really want to apply asap beacuse i know the spots will be taken if i wait 10 days!!!!!!!!
and its online, i cant write a note or anything. i want to just say YES start here (60 days from now) when it says that, and then when i get an interview (assuming thats what happens after an application) ask if i can start within 70 days because i still have school + my aunt is visiting and we're going on a road trip? or something just HELP.

16/f fyi, if anyone remotely my age who can answer this and some more job related questions has aim thatd be fab

18/f...

When they ask if you can start within 60 days, they're not asking if you can start 60 days from the time you turn in the application, they're asking if you're available within the next two months - as in, they'll probably hire you sooner than 60 days because they'll need you sooner than 60 days.

However, to heighten your chances of getting the job, go ahead and apply now, wait for an interview, and when they ask you when you can start, explain the situation. If anything, start sooner and just get time off for your aunts visit & the road trip (if it's no more than a consecutive week, anyway).

If you get the job, great. If not, there are plenty of other jobs who look for teenagers. The reason a lot of places hire teenagers who have never worked before is because they think that they'll want to impress their bosses and do really well to keep the job, so you have a better chance of getting a job than other people.

I also suggest you apply to other locations as well. If Target doesn't end up calling you back for an interview, you'll want other options. Check out your local mall or other venues in your area.

I need advice for cooking healthy meals on a budget. I need to reduce my grocery bill without sacrificing nutrition. Any advice on the subject is welcome. Thank you!

Have you ever heard of Rachael Ray? She's on the food network and has her own television show. I absolutely love her! She can give you 30-minute meals that are nutritious, delicious, and cheap, etc.

Here's her list of budget stuff:
http://www.rachaelray.com/food/collections/budget/index.php

If you just browse through all of her recipes (or go to your local Wal-Mart or Target) and pick up one or two of her recipe books, they're amazing!

Even check out her shows on food network and on CBS (I think that's the name of the channel... it's channel 3 for me in NC)

im lookin for mobile websites i can acess from a ipod touch (NOT A APP, SO DNT MENTION THEM) or a psp and dnt require a phone number, not including twitter, myspace, and facebook

I'm not exactly sure if this is what you're looking for, but I like this website: http://www.mozeo.com/

You do have to enter your phone number to use it, but trust me, it's safe. It's been around for a few years now and because my cousin and his friend created the website, and they're geniuses!

I'm not sure of any other mobile sites other than those you mentioned, but most of them probably require you enter your number since it's a mobile site.

Sorry that I didn't give you what you want, but you should still check out Mozeo, it really is a cool site :]

can i get a job at the age of 14 and where in michigan

The only jobs a person of your age can work at are family-owned businesses. If your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. have their own business, then you can work there; however, there are strict guidelines that must be adhered. If you have a good friend whose family owns a business, you might be able to work for them.

It's near impossible to get a job under the age of 16. Very few places will hire 15 years old. Quiznos will hire at 15, but there are too many child labor laws for places to hire under that.

Right now, your best options are babysitting, pet sitting, mowing lawns, etc. You're stuck with the typical preteen jobs for now. Sorry to disappoint you.

im 16 and a sophomore and my boyfriend is graduating this year...what would be a nice graduation gift - thats not too corny - to get him?? any ideas?

Is he going to college? You could make him some kind of care package with food, pencils, pens, notebooks, etc... a few things he'll really need.
Trust me, I'm in college, and there's no greater gift than food, music, or school supplies.

Also, you could make him something "class of 2009" related - a scrapbook of pictures of him throughout high school (ask his mom if you want to include funny baby pictures and stuff, too... she may have doubles you can have and/or make copies of).

Most of my ideas are "if he's going to college" ideas, so if he isn't, I don't really have much else I can think of.

Okay so my mom and i have always had a semi-close relationship. But she just got a facebook... and she wants me to be her friend on it. I have no problem with the fact she got a facebook, but i kind of need my personal space when it comes to these things. I dont want her to read what i say to my friends and such.... its not that they're bad. It's just that i'm really uncomfortable with it. I told her all of this and she's making me feel extremely guilty, and telling me that i'm SUCH a good daughter for not accepting (sarcasm).
So i really don't know what do do.
Am i horrible for doing this?
What do you guys think?
15/f

I don't see a problem with you not adding her.
It took me a few weeks before I accepted my mom, aunts, and such on facebook.

It never really crossed my mind that they'd be "facebook stalking" because most of them aren't great with the computer. However, the second my mom commented one of my pictures, she went straight to the "Limited Profile" section of my facebook, as did a few other adults I have as friends.

Don't get me wrong, I care about each of these people, and it's not like I have pictures of me drinking or doing drugs or anything, but it's just one of those things that they don't really need to see... I like my privacy, and I don't add people I don't know, etc. I enjoy my facebook being something for me and my friends, and it kind of bothers me that they stopped allowing only college kids on.
I'm cool with them letting high school kids on because that's not as big of a deal, but it used to be a college thing, and it's kind of a shame that they stopped doing that.

okay well , i took 2 First Response at home pregnancy tests which both came out positive but i took a docotor urine test that came out negative. i took the home tests on thursday and i went to the doctor yeasterday and today i would be 3 weeks 2 days along...
My question is AM I PREGNANT ?!
I need to know !
I'm going crazy !
HELP ?!

The doctor test said negative? Then you're probably not pregnant.

Pregnancy tests work because they detect a certain hormone that pregnant women have called human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG). If the test is positive, it's because that hormone is there.

There are, however, certain medications that also contain that hormone (alcohol and most OTC drugs do NOT contain it). Pregnyl, Profasi, or Pergonal contain the hormone as well as rare medical conditions such as an ovarian cyst or an ectopic pregnancy.

The test can also give a false pregnancy if you've had a miscarriage or if you've given birth within the past 8 weeks because the test may detect hCG that's still in your system from a previous pregnancy.
-------

That came from the instructions included in the box of pregnancy tests I have.

Some pregnancy tests are tricky, and you may think you're positive when really it's telling you that something went wrong and the test is invalid.
Also, if you are pregnant, the first morning urine contains the most of the hormone (so make your doctor appt first thing in the morning, and try not peeing until you get there).

So my suggestion to you is to make a second doctors appointment, and if the result is still negative, talk with your doctor and ask his/her opinion. If anything, you can get an ultrasound soon enough to tell you what you need to know.

I looked it up and it says that it was only 18 episodes? Is that true?

I LOVED THAT SHOW!

And yeah, unfortunately it only lasted one season, so 18 episodes sounds about right.

I took the SAT on March 14th and got 570 in critical reading, 520 in math and 660 in writing. In total it added up to a 1750 (I'm not sure about the essay score). I didn't have any tutoring for this one and it was my first. Based on those two factors, is a 1750 average or above average? I honestly have no idea. My math score needs improvement and I knew that going into the test and I'm applying to PA state schools if that makes a difference (I know each one has certain requirements). Overall I was just curious if 1750 is a good score or not? Thanks.

I received a 1710 and made it into a school that's beginning to get difficult to get into (Appalachian State in NC), and I only took it once, so I have to say a 1750 is pretty good.

If you want, take it one more time to bring up that math grade.

And about the essay portion, my college psych teacher told us that the essays aren't taken into consideration very often because it's hard to determine what's truly good... too many differing opinions and stuff.

You did well, though.
I don't know what's average, but I can tell you did well.

Hi, i am a female junior high school b ball player and i was wondering...Ive always wanted to get recruited and play at a (small) division 1 b ball school.... but what do you think about me not going to college for sports....like have you ever heard of a great high school player that didn't move on? i meant i almost have my 1000 points and i averaged 22pts last season and i just feel like i should be playing college b ball....what do you think?

EDIT: Sorry, you said "i am a female junior high school b ball player" so I assumed that by the typing and phrasing, you were saying you were in junior high, not a junior in high school. Either way, if you were going to play in college, you'd know by now. Your chances aren't great if you haven't already been scouted. [/edit]
------------------

We've had a few great players on my high school basketball team, and they all play in college, but none of them play on any big teams...

They play in places such as Salem and NC AT&T... (We live in NC).

However, there is an amazing sophomore and an awesome junior who have had scouts looking at them for what seems like years - they're getting looked at by places like UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University - even though those places are mostly popular with boys basketball, they still have an amazing bball program.

It all depends on your skill, what high school you attend (is basketball popular there? Will scouts know about the school?), and how hard you work towards the goal and how badly you want it.

You're only in junior high! If you make varisty your freshman year, then start talking to your coaches. If you make varsity your sophomore year, talk to your coaches. If you don't make varisty until your junior year, don't expect much - you aren't as good as you think.

Once you start playing high school ball, talk to you coaches about where they think you are and if they think you've got a shot at playing college and even pro.

There are always people who play in high school and don't make it in college or beyond, it's all up to your skill, your ambition, your drive, and your willingness to WORK!
Good luck.

I'm dating this girl at my school. We're very close and such, been dating awhile, exclusive, blah blah blah.

Anyway, I go in late on some days when I don't have class, and I just found this donut place by my house. Would it be too much if I were to show up during snack at school with a donut for her? I don't want to come off as like... overly sweet I guess. So, good idea or no?

Heck yes, buy her a donut.
Oh wow, I'd be exceptionally happy if my boyfriend surprised me with a donut, ice cream cone, cupcake, anything.
You'll get far if you surprise your girl with some kind of treat :) haha.

Hi i just turned 16 and i want a summer job.. I attend school and i should be getting out around june. I would like a job during the summer time.

should i start applying now or should i wait a little longer.
and what are some tips so i can get noticed by the people who are hiring and should i still ask for a application even if they do not have a "now hiring" sign out.. please help this is my first job. Please just give me some tips.
thank you ever so much:)

I'd go ahead and begin the application process. If the people are "now hiring" they may ask that you start weekend or after school because they're looking for help NOW.

You could wait a bit longer before applying - I'd say no later than mid April... make sure you apply by Easter time because college kids finish school in May and will come home to snatch up all of the summer positions before high schoolers even get out for summer.
I'll be home from college May 6th and already have a summer job lined up for myself when I get home. A lot of my friends already have their summer jobs as well. If you want an almost guaranteed position, why don't you look for positions with summer camps. Those are the places that definitely need help, especially during the summer.

Good luck finding a job.
