Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
I am 18 years old almost 19(female) and my ex-boyfriend is 20. My ex-boyfriend and I were dating for six months, and he recently broke up with me because he wanted to focus more on his fraternity. I know that he definitely still has feelings for me and still loves and cares about me. My question is, what can I do on my end to try to make things work? It has been especially hard because we were extremely close and he was my best friend. Now that we have been broken up, we barely talk or see each other. I just want to know how I could increase the chances of us getting back together, without being pitiful.
Just don't be clingy. Stay friends and don't try too hard about trying to get back together. If you two are meant to get back together you will.
I went to a physician and they told me I had trich. I told my girlfiend and she went to the doctor and they told her she dont have any traces of a std. We have sex on a regular basis. What could be the issue?
Get treated, have your girlfriend re-tested (the doctor will know when to re-test based on how long the disease can lie dormant) and be grateful that your girlfriend didn't get it too.
Also, be honest with her about your past and current sexual encounters, otherwise you'll lose any trust she had in you.

I'm 13 can I tan at a tanning salon?!
Many states have bans on people under 18 or 16 from tanning. Depending on the state, it's either an outright ban, or you might be able to tan with parental consent. Call the salon and ask what their policy is.

A little over a month ago I blocked this guy from texting/calling me from the Verizon website.
The block will expire in a couple months. I was just wondering if when the block expires, will I get all the text he's tried to send to me after I blocked him?
You know like when you turn your cell phone off for some time and when you turn it on you suddenly get all the texts that were sent to you while your phone was off?
Just curious. Thanks in advance!
You shouldn't ever get the messages. That's the point of blocking.
If it's that much of an issue, you can always change your number. Sometimes there's a fee involved but if you explain your situation you might be able to get a new one for free. Call customer service, don't go into the store. Going to the store, at least in my area, does NOTHING. They can't do much in store, but customer service has the power to do almost anything. If this guy was harassing you, they may waive the service charge of getting a new number (it's $25).
Also, text messages "expire" (at least, they used to...) and after a certain time period they're NEVER sent. So even if you did get messages after a block, most would be expired by then :)

I´m 16 years old and I go to the gym three times a week (tops). I´ve been told to drink protein shakes to accelarate the process of gainning muscle. I´m a little afraid of side effects, tough I want to drink them. Also my parents aren´t so open about it and forbid me because they aren´t "natural".
I can buy them without them knowing, though I feel bad for doing something like that behind their backs. I really want to start taking them right away but I dont know what to do !!!!!!
Try eating more protein in your everyday diet :)

I turned 17 a month ago and it just hit me that I could get into rated R movies now.
If I go to a movie theatre, how do I prove I'm 17?
I don't have my permit yet, is getting it the only way?
Most states allow you to get a state ID (not a license) at any age. The RMV/DMV should be able to help with that. Check their website first, though, because calling them is a time-consuming process.
Call your local movie theater; they may accept a copy of your birth certificate. I really don't know how else you'd prove your age.

I know hair's a natural thing but I didn't like it and so I shaved it. It wasn't that long before but now it is literally half an inch long?! Is this normal? I'm a woman of age 19.
Yeah, it's normal. If you shave hair that's never been shaved before, it'll be nice and soft/wispy before you shave it because it's been worn down. Once you shave it, it grows back dark and stubbly. Like leg hair! Just shave it every time you do your legs.
Other options include bleach, Nair, tweezing, and waxing. The last two will probably hurt a lot and cause irritation. And that would probably be worse than a little hair!

Well I was suppose to start my period around the 24th of August, but now it's about 2 weeks late. I've taken pregnancy tests & they came out negative.
I also, get migraines almost everyday. & I can't even concentrate on anything.
& I'm always falling asleep during class, or right when I get home. Like I can barely keep my eyes open even when I want to.
I'm iron deficient & just began taking Nature Made Iron (65mg) pills about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure if that could have anything to do with it.
Any clues as to what's happening ?
If you're not using birth control pills or anything like that, most likely it's just your period being all out of control. It's normal for periods to be irregular, especially in your teenage years. Has a doctor diagnosed you with any of these things (migraines, iron deficiency) that you could call for a follow-up appointment? If so, call him/her and mention what's been going on - nothing out of the ordinary, but they can help alleviate some symptoms for you, and can prescribe stronger medicine than, say, Advil, for as-needed relief.
From personal experience, I can tell you that going on the pill might really help your migraines. Mine would get worse the same time every month and EVERYTHING was out of control. I would also suggest taking a daily multivitamin, because you could be lacking some other essential things as well. I read somewhere that magnesium helps alleviate migraine pain, and it's in most vitamins these days. Try that, especially if you can't get to a doctor right away :)
Also, if you're sexually active, it's a good idea to use a reliable form of birth control, so it'd be a double benefit! :D
Other (slightly weird sounding) migraine cures)
- ice pack (wrap in a towel to avoid freezer burn on skin, 20minutes at a time
- small amount of caffeine (tea, coffee early in the day, etc)
- massage your head with your fingertips wherever it hurts, just don't press too hard on your temples (the part next to your eyes)
- drink plenty of water, juice, tea every day. Dehydration makes headaches worse.
Sorry for the wicked long answer, hope you don't have to suffer with migraines anymore!

so i like this guy. he was in my school and passed out this year. i am a year junior to him so i'll pass out next year!
i have been talking to him for quite a while now.. and i really like him. he likes me too. he asked me out recently.(though we both are confused on what to do because.. the problem is he is going to another country :/ for his college! and yeah well he would come back to where i live cause his family is here, but still i mean i dont know what i should do?)
I've noticed you asked this to many people, so you probably have a lot of answers by now.
Anyway, I would just hang out with him, maybe go to dinner and see if there's any sort of spark. Don't get seriously involved because you'll be in separate countries, and long-distance relationships are hard enough when it's a 2 hour drive, never mind a plane ticket and passport.
It sounds cliche; but it's true. If you're meant to be together it'll happen later on, when you're both in the same country and readily available.

So my best mate and I are going to be competing in a dance costume contest for this up coming Halloween. We're going to be dressing as Jake and Natiri from the Avatar movie. We've got our costumes pretty much down, but see we're going to be dancing and we would like to be in character as much as possible. Avatars are barefoot and seeing as to how we're going to be dancing on concrete, we need ideas on foot support. A friend of ours suggested duck taping or somehow sticking Dr.Sholl's soles on the bottom of our feet. I'm looking for another alternative, as to they might fall off while dancing.
Looking forward to suggestions and any help provided. Good day to you! (:
A few suggestions.
- Blue flats (or whatever color Avatars are on their feet.. haha)
"Set up" your dance area with something brown or green (earth toned) that is squishy, like a yoga mat or rug.
Also, depending on how long you're dancing and what sort of dancing you are doing, the concrete might not be too painful. If it's an all-night thing, you could get some flip-flops in the right color from Old Navy (they have basically every color and they're cheap). You could slip in and out of them as needed.

Hi everyone!
I want to change my hair and dye it red. I've had it a kind of dark red-brown before and purple which I've liked.
My current skin tone is a light olive. My natural hair colour is mousy brown and my eyes are a darker, chocolatey brown. I was thinking a slightly darker red, like an auburn, or even a burgundy.
What do you guys think?
Personally, I love auburn hair. I used to dye my hair red a lot, but since my hair was so dark already, it made it more burgundy.
Just a warning; red dye is difficult to keep in your hair. You'll probably need to use a low or sulfate-free shampoo to keep the color in. I noticed that dye lasted longer when I used it. If you're worried about a color match and getting the shade right, having it done in a salon the first time could help (if they make your hair the wrong shade, they should fix it for free)
For a true red, you may have to lighten your hair first, which could potentially damage it. Enlist the help of a friend who's good with hair, and wait a couple days and do some deep conditioning before you put the red in.

how do i get it out??
Try not to let it dry.
You're going to have to use some sort of solvent; no way around it. It might mess with the color a little, but nothing like black paint does ;)
There's a product called OOPS! Remover that my family keeps on hand because we're all clumsy people and always have some kind of spill. It smells HORRIBLE and you will NEED ventilation. But, it gets everything out. Seriously, I've gotten dried red nail polish out of off-white carpet with this stuff.
If the stain doesn't come out, or it makes the texture weird, or whatever, you have the option of replacing the ruined carpet section if you have
1. A remnant left over
2. A way to buy the same carpet color/pattern again (take fading into account)
3. A closet or something else you could cut the piece needed out of.
Here's some instructions on how to do this. However, I don't recommend doing this until you've explored every avenue of cleaning. Carpet cleaners have seen it all, call them before you break out the xacto knives.

Hello. I went on one of these makeover sites to edit my pictures and LOVE them. I would like to save it to my documents and such so I can put it as my profile picture on other sites (facebook, tumblr, etc.)
But it wont let me.
How can I do that?
Take a screenshot of your computer screen. (The Print Screen button, or "Prt sc", or "Prt sc" and control key). Paste into Paint, crop as needed, and save the picture as a file. Then upload as usual :)

I am having unprotected sex. i was reading about how a person can have normal periods for a while during pregnancy and don't have symptoms until later into the pregnancy.. i have gained weight but i still have my period could i be pregnant. i guess its a possibility, but at the same time i'm probably just worrying myself. i am not that worried if i am, what i would be worried about is that neither me or my boyfriend haven't found job in this stupid economy and we live separate from each other in our own families... i could just be getting fat and that's why i gained weight obviously.. but whatever.. thanks
Get a pregnancy test from a doctor or clinic. They're more accurate than home tests. Some women experience spotting or bleeding during pregnancy, which can be harmless or a sign of a miscarriage. Or you could just be having your period and not actually be pregnant at all.
Keep in mind that contraception is WAY cheaper than having a child. Places like Planned Parenthood base your co-pay for the pill off of your income (it might even be free) and generics are wicked cheap under most insurance policies. Use protection from now on unless you two are ready to be parents.

I walked into famous footwear today, it being tax free weekend it was packed. I couldnt tell where the line began it actually looked like everyone was still shopping so I just got behind the person that was paying, I was there for about a minute and then this lady taps me on the shoulder and says "um, excuse me theres a line." I turn around and theres probably a line of about 50 to 100 people. I automatically felt embaressed its one thing to cut one person but to cut 100 is a different story, I apologized and then walked out of the store embaressed. What would you be thinking if you were one of the people in the line, I want honest answers!
I probably wouldn't have cared too much; stores should mark off where lines start for busy events like tax-free weekends (unless it's clear where lines are, like a supermarket). I probably would have told you there was a line and left it at that.
It's not really a big deal, I wouldn't have left the store over it, but I would have been slightly embarrassed and walked to the end of the line. Seeing as there was fifty people between the person I just accidentally cut and the end of the line, there would have been no further confrontation.

Well, Im female. 13. And slightly over weight. I only have a little extra fat on my thighs and stomach. But i have /major/ stretch marks on my thighs. I don't have alot of elasticity in my skin. How can i get rid of them?
Celtrixa is wicked expensive. Before you spend a small fortune on glorified moisturizer, try Bio-Oil. It's much cheaper and you can buy it in a store. I've used it and was pleased with it, but they might have just faded with time. Either way, it makes your skin feel fantastic.
Also know that they fade with time, they'll eventually fade into your skin. Moisturization and exercise, as well as drinking plenty of water, will make your skin look best and minimize the chances of getting more.

We havent put metal or spilled anything in the microwave. This microwave is brand new and its sparking when we put food in it. We had another microwave a couple of weeks ago that we threw away because it was sparking and making weird noises. What is causing these microwaves to spark and make noises, they also turned black in the corner inside of it. Why is the new microwave doing this and why did outr old one do it when we havent done anything wrong with it? Could it be the plug on the wall we are using?
Well, if you think it's the plug, try running it in another plug (on a different circuit). Make sure the dishes you're using don't have metal of any kind. Many fancy plates have shiny patterns or edges, and those coatings can contain metal.
It's also possible that it's just a coincidence. Old microwaves can spark and make noise, and you could have gotten a new microwave that is defective. You should be able to exchange it for a new one.

do birth control pills make your boobs bigger??
They can, but it's not a guarantee. Taking artificial hormones (aka the pill) can cause your breasts to grow. However, if you're a teenager, it's possible that your breasts were going to grow anyways, and the size changes when you gain or lose weight (even a few pounds).
So, they aren't going to shrink because of the Pill. Expect a modest increase.

okay, so i want to get a pair of trail contact lenses, but are they able to fit to every ones eyes, or can you not see out of them? lol.
When you get trial contact lenses they're the real thing. You need to get an exam first, though, and "free trial lenses" are distributed through the optometrist's office. Once you have the exam, though, the lenses really are free. Make sure you specify that you want a contact lens examination as part of the appointment (there's additional tests and stuff)
Contacts have a prescription just like glasses do, and there's a couple other parts to the prescription too that refer to the shape of your eye or something like that. It doesn't hurt at all to get "measured".
After the doctor has figured out your prescription, you'll get a pair to wear for a week or two (depending on the lens) and a schedule of wearing them. The first couple days, you'll only wear them for 4-6 hours. This lets your eyes get used to them. This trial period will let you figure out if contacts are right for you, and that the type of lens will work for your eye.
They also need to make sure you can take them out and put them on by yourself. Don't get discouraged if it takes you forever - it took me 15-20 minutes to get mine out the first time! After a few days, touching your eyes is second nature. And don't worry if, when the doctor is putting them in the first time, you blink uncontrollably and make it difficult. It's a natural reaction.
There's a ton of different types. If you're going to be wearing them a lot and don't need throwaways, I love Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear. I think they're worth the (slightly) extra money because they're such a high quality lens - I've NEVER had them pop out from drying out, and I literally cannot feel them at all. There's also a rebate if you're going to be buying them:
and you can use it in conjunction with any vision insurance you might have! Wicked cool.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! I've worn contacts for over 4 years now :)
