You're going to have to use some sort of solvent; no way around it. It might mess with the color a little, but nothing like black paint does ;)
There's a product called OOPS! Remover that my family keeps on hand because we're all clumsy people and always have some kind of spill. It smells HORRIBLE and you will NEED ventilation. But, it gets everything out. Seriously, I've gotten dried red nail polish out of off-white carpet with this stuff.
If the stain doesn't come out, or it makes the texture weird, or whatever, you have the option of replacing the ruined carpet section if you have
1. A remnant left over
2. A way to buy the same carpet color/pattern again (take fading into account)
3. A closet or something else you could cut the piece needed out of.
Here's some instructions on how to do this. However, I don't recommend doing this until you've explored every avenue of cleaning. Carpet cleaners have seen it all, call them before you break out the xacto knives.
