about

Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

Does anyone know of any really good books? Because i

The Pretty Little Liars series. Written by Sara Shepard. I'm on the 3rd of [hopefully] 4 books. The first is The Pretty Little Liars, the second is Flawless, the 3rd is Perfect and I'm unsure if she's even finished the 4th because I don't know the title and I have yet to find it anywhere.

There is this trilogy where I am unsure of the author. The books are entitled Uglies, Pretties, Specials. They were pretty good. It took me a while to get into them but once I did I really enjoyed them.

Impulse by Ellen Hopkins is good if you like the real life drama type of thing.

Anything Sarah Dessen really. I read Just Listen and it was awesome!

There is this really good book called Please Stop Lauging At Me. I'd by Jodi Blanco

If I'm Missing Or Dead by Janine Latus

Pledged by Alexandra Robbins

I hope you at least choose a few of these. My favorite of this list are the Pretty Little Liars books. I LOVED LOVED LOVED THEM!!!

How many hours does a high school football game last?

It is different with each school.
At my school kickoff is usually about 7pm and the game ends anywhere between 9:45 and 10:30.

It really depends on how good the team your team is playing, if the kickoff is on time, if they play the game to the last second or if they stop it a minute early because one team is losing too drastically to catch up, etc.

I would say plan on it being about 3 hours give or take 20 minutes.

how good of a reputation does syracuse university in New York have. i mean academics wise and safety.

In my personal opinion it is a VERY good school! I have always wanted to go there but now that I moved from NY it's much too expensive as a private school for me to be able to afford going there.

I know that you aren't looking for a personal opinion and that you're looking at reputation. I can't be 100% but as far as I know it is a VERY good college. Most private schools are very good schools.

Academic wise - you have to be pretty smart to get in there and I've never heard of anything unsafe that has happened there. Although, I haven't lived there in a few years so I wouldn't know much anymore.

Your best bet is to go to the school website or to even use google to look up the information you want.

I know there's many symptoms of anorexia nervosa, but can you have it without being underweight and dangerously skinny? Because I have all the symptoms of anorexia besides being borderline thin. I am thin, but have a healthy weight.

Technically you do not have to be extremely thin to be anorexic. I was anorexic and extremely thin, but anorexia is a mental disease which then has negative effects on an individuals body.

If you look at yourself in the mirror and see all of this excess fat that isn't really there, if you excercise like crazy, get disgusted at the sight/smell/mention of food, pick apart your food and barely eat any, are more self conscious than the average person about your appearance, mostly regarding weight, etc then you may be in the early stages of anorexia.

I have never personally seen an anorexic person who was not thin (because anorexia is, in my own words, a fear of gaining weight and when you can actually look into a mirror and see nonexistant fat...).
If you fear that you are on the path to becoming anorexic I would tell someone. It is such a difficult disease to overcome. There, in my opinion, is no such person as one who has recovered from anorexia nervosa. It is a daily struggle to be able to look at food, smell food, talk about food, and even more so, eat food.

If you truly feel like you may be developing this disease I would speak to a teacher, councilor, parent, friend, etc. Find someone who can help you before it's too late.

I just happen to notice that every one I see is about 13-17...

Just wondering because I notice you said you were an admin. and you're only 17!

Is this a school site or something?

This site was started by the user spacefem. I wasn't around when it started so I'm not sure how long it has been around, a few years because I've been here for over 3. So no, it's not a school site. It was started by a woman who I suppose was really good at giving advice and who gave a chance to others to give advice too. I suppose that it is more directed towards teens because there are a lot of teenagers around who have issues with self confidence and a lot of other things they need help with. Even simple things such as how to fix a mechanical problem or how to raise your gpa...

There are quite a few adults too. A lot of adults seem to come and go more than teens because of simle issues such as chatspeak (tYpInG LyyK3 Dis Nnd ThIIs.). Which is very aggrivating and can turn people away.

I became an admin I guess once I'd been around for about a year, I was pretty good at giving advice, I rated a LOT of questions when become an L1 and I answered like crazy. I participated in site discussions and I guess I was useful. Spacefem is the one who upped my moderator level to admin status. DangerNerd is the current owner of the website, he keeps it running.

I think this site is brilliant. It's a quick, easy way for people to get help from those who have life experiences and who don't know them so they can't judge them, etc.

Most of the site admins are adults. I actually think that myself and Rainbowcherrie are the only minors who are site admin (I could be mistaken though).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Oh, and by the way - I won't turn 17 until next week =]

okay so im looking for some sad songs. songs that really give you that feeling inside. that heart dropping feeling of sadness. know what i mean? but yea im looking for some really sad songs. preferably rock, alternative, pop, country, acoustic kinda music.
for example a few of the songs i really like that are ones that im kinda looking for are...

Tonight I Want To Cry by Keith Urban

and

One Man Drinking Games by Mayday Parade.

or even

Adams Song by Blink 182

they can be break up or suicidel or loosing someone kinda songs or anything

i just need sad ones

thank you so much!

Rascal Flatts - Holes
Rascal Flatts - What Hurts The Most
Brad Paisley & Allison Krauss - Whiskey Lullaby
Rascal Flatts - It's Not Supposed to go Like That
I Will Remember You - Sarah McLachlan
Concrete Angel - Martina McBride
I'm Already There - Lonestar
Not A Day Goes By - Lonstar
Who You'd Be Today- Kenny Chesney
So Small - Carrie Underwood
Here Without you - 3 Doors Down
The Christmas Shoes - Newsong

I just went through my itunes and tried to pick some out. They're not all about death/breakups (I don't think anyway).
I would have a lot more "sad" songs but they're really more of a personal sad song because of people I know who loved them and were killed, etc.

the one year anniversary of my cousin's death is coming up in a few days .. we were best friends. are there any songs or quotes that talk about it being the 1 year anniversary of a death? or even just really sad quotes about missing someone who has died .. thanks a bunch

This a poem about someone who experienced somebody that love die:

FRIEND - Joanetta Hendel

Don't tell me that you understand
Don't tell me that you know,
Don't tell me that I will survive
Or how I will surely grow.
Don't tell me that this is just a test
That I am truly blessed
That I am chosen for this task
Apart from all the rest.
Don't come at me with answers
That can only come from me,
Don't tell me how my grief will pass,
That I will soom be free.
Don't stand in pious judgment
Of the bounds I must untie,
Don't tell me how to suffer
And don't tell me how to cry!
My life is filled with selfishness,
My pain is all I see,
But, I need you now,
I need your love, unconditionally.
Accept me in my ups and downs,
I need someone to share,
Just hold my hand and let me cry,
And say, "My friend, I care."

Also, one of my best friends died in a drunk driving related car accident so I know a lot of poems specifically dealing with drunk driving deaths. I'm not sure how your friend died, but if you would like a link to the website with the poems just let me know through feedback or my inbox.
Here are some more I found through using google.

I wonder as i wander, out under the sky, why do people I care about always have to die? Are you happy where you are, wherever that might be? I wonder as i wander, do you still think of me? Is it nice up ther in heaven? For i know you made it there. Are the clouds made out of marshmallows, do you know that i still care? I looked up at the winter sky and shed a single tear. I think of all the day sgone by, I'll always hold you dear. I wonder as i wander, out under the sky, why do people i care about, always have to die?

-Hilary Begleiter

If tears could build a stair way, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
As the days come and go and the world moves on,
I know you're still here, you'll never be gone.
On the night the Angel came and
took your hand,
We cried as you left for an unknown land.
But Heaven rejoiced as you came into
sight,
For your soul was a diamond, shining so bright!

Two golden hearts stopped beating, Four shining eyes at rest, God broke my heart to prove to me, he only takes the best. One thousands words couldn't bring you back, I know because I've tried, Neither could one thousand tears, I know because I've cried. It breaks my heart to see you there, I'll get over it, Well I'll try, But what really broke my heart the most, You didn't say goodbye..

"I wish that I could hold you now
I wish that I could touch you now
I wish that I could talk to you
Be with you somehow
I know you're in a better place
Even though I can't see your face
I know you're smiling down on me
Saying everything's okay"

in case anyone knows this answer..

COLLEGE APPS: If the ED postmark/electronic submission deadline is November 1st, what does that mean?
Does it mean 11:59 p.m. on Oct 31st or 11:59 p.m. on Nov 1st? I mean, can I send the day of Nov 1st? Like is the deadline including Nov 1st, not by Nov 1st?

This is for Johns Hopkins University.

I am using their online application.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a Nov. 1st deadline and I took that to mean that it had to be sent out on the 1st or earlier. They say that the postmark date has to be Nov. 1st or earlier so I automatically assumed that tomorrow is that last day to can send in the application.

I read what it said on the John Hopkins website and all it says is "Decision. Each year, about 30 percent of our entering freshmen choose this option. To apply Early Decision, you must submit your application and supporting credentials by November 1." so I see where you are confused. I would take that to mean that it includes Nov. 1st.

Good luck and you better hurry. Although I read more about them and I hope you REALLY want to go if you are applying early decision because if you get in you can't go anywhere else. At least with Chapel Hill it is a nonbinding early notification...

first of all sorry if this is in the wrong catagory. i really am. ok so i play high school soccer and lately i havent been playing as much as i used to. and its bothering me because i used to play alot until i got sick last week and only made one practice. in between the last two games ive played for 14 minutes. besides this, we were supposed to have our last game wednesday (yeah on halloween wtf?) but it got moved to saturday. but i have a commitment at the same time as the game for my church that i've been trying to plan for months. so idk if i should skip the game or not cause it seems like they dont need me. so my mom goes you should do the church thing cause u've been planning it but my dads like team commitment and idk what to. help!

This is a very sticky situation. For one, when you joined the team, as your father said, you made a committment to that team. Then again, church is also very important, especially if you have been planning for months.

Make yourself a pro/con list to help decide which you would rather do.

I don't really understand this because at my school when you are on a sports team, other than your education, that team comes first. If you miss a practice you will usually sit out the next game (Those were even the rules when I played rec. ball unless we were very sick and had a doctors note or another extremely good excuse). So I can already tell that your school atheletics are different than mine.

I can't tell you what I would do in your position because I don't want to influence this choice. This is a choice that you should make on your own.

Again, make a pro/con list. If the benefits of your church outing outweight the benefits of your soccer game then go on the church outing. If it's the other way around then play in the game.

I've been active on Advicenators since like March, and I am a moderator, and I answer and ask and rate questions like crazy, but I am STILL not a featured user? What do I have to do???

One, you could start of by reading the site FAQ. We prefer that all members have read it at least once. It's a good read. The FAQ will inform you on the answer to this very question and any others you may have about the site.
Also, Razhie is correct. It is only out of luck. If you meet the requirements and have the correct information checked then you just have to wait. There are probably at least 10,000 members of this site. I'm sure about 5-10% of them meet the same requirements as you. About 1% of those have probably been featured. I'm a site admin and have been apart of this site since age 13 (I am about to turn 17 in a week and a half). I have been the featured user probably about 5-7 times. That's in 4 years! You could be featured tomorrow or not for another 2 years - it's 100% random. For some reason I want to say that it used to be picked, but I don't think so.

In my own opinion it should be a lot more difficult than it currently is to be featured and to be an L1 in general.

Next time you have site questions you should really read the FAQ. It's there for a reason.

I'm in 12th grade and am applying to colleges. But I feel like I ruined my chances at getting into my top 3 choices: Brown, UCBerkley, NYU.
So in 10th grade I had a GPA of 4.0
In 11th grade I had a 4.4.
And so far I have a 4.4 in 12th grade.
HOWEVER, in 9th grade I only got a 3.5 GPA.
Did I ruin my chances of getting into those schools?

I recieved a 2150 on my SAT, a 30 on my ACT, I scored perfect on my US History subject test and perfect on my French/with listening SAT subject test.

Please tell me, did I ruin my chances with my 9th grade GPA????

I am editing my answer to back up what I previously stated. You are fine for NYU and UC Berkely from what their website averages are. It will probably be tough for you to get into Brown but you don't look too bad for them either.
I have confidence that you will get accepted into at least one of the three. Also, althought many people will say that freshman year doesn't count - it does. It isn't as bad in your case because your freshman year is pretty good. I'd love to have your GPA and your SAT scores, etc. Here is the information that should help. All you really had to do was visit their websites and they tell you the AVERAGE of their applicants. Just because you're above average doesn't mean you will easily get in and just because you're below average doesn't mean that you won't. It's how you present yourself to them, etc. Don't get your hopes up but don't be so quick as to assume you'll never make it. Try your hardest and you will have just as good of a chance as anyone else applying there.

DIRECTLY FROM NYU WEBSITE
The average GPA is a 3.63 and their said avg SAT score was a 1300-1430 (I would assume that the SAT scores has yet to be updated)...

DIRECTLY FROM BROWN WEBSITE:
Further Information
average test scores?
The average SAT score ranges from 670-780 on each section. One quarter of our admitted students score above this average, and one quarter score below this average.
The average ACT score ranges from 30-33 on each section. One quarter of our admitted students score above this average, and one quarter score below this average.
We do not have an average high school GPA because different schools use different scales. Approximately 90% of the students were in the top 10% of their class in high school.

DIRECTLY FROM UC BERKELY WEBSITE
SAT Reasoning Test scores
(25th % 75th percentiles) Reading: 590-710
Math: 620-750
Writing: 590-710
Average unweighted GPA 3.82
Average weighted GPA 4.25

Hi I'm Tina and I'm 22 years old. Recently (well, for the past 4 months or so) I have been having an issue with my friend, who is also my roommate. She is currently in a relationship, and she usually stays with her boyfriend (she'll come back to pick up clothes and whatnot), and that's totally fine, but I have been feeling very aggravated because she only calls when she needs something, makes plans and breaks them (for him), and pretty much has adopted HIS friends as her new friends, completely leaving behind her old friends. She calls about once every other week, but ALWAYS, without exception, it's because she wants something, she even adopts a "baby voice" to seem sweet and friendly, but now it seems so hypocritical and fake. I have been hoping that she'll prove me wrong, and that one day she would call just for a friendly conversation, and not because she needs yet ANOTHER favor, but it always ends in "sooo I was calling you because i need..." To top things off, she recently had a serious crisis with her boyfriend, and I was there to help her out, but after she "mended" the relationship, she went back to being, her same old "I need" self. Is it wrong for me to feel so angry? How should I approach her about this? My patience is growing very thin... thank you!

It is definitly not wrong for you to be angry with her; I would be upset too!
The best way to handle this is to come straight out and say something. Next time she calls you because she needs something tell her how you feel when she does that. Tell her that you think it isn't right for you to always be there for her and for her not to reciprocate. Life isn't always fair, but you should never have to put up with a "friend" like her. I understand that her being your roomate makes it a lot harder and worst case senario is that you two may have to separate and find different homes if you can afford it.
Tell her that you love that she happy with her boyfriend but that you resent her for only calling you when she needs something. What you are experiencing is not a friendship, it is one person using another. It's not right and there is absolutely no reason you should put up with it. The only way she is going to know is if you tell her. In her mind she may not realize or know that she is doing anything wrong and won't know until you set her straight.

Give her a call and tell her that you would like to talk face to face. Talks such as this one are better when the two people are face to face.
Tell her kindly how you feel and that you would like it if things changed for the better.

=]

Let me know how it goes.

I am a freshman in college and I plan on majoring in Elementary Education. I have noticed that there are many people in my campus that are majoring in the same thing. After I graduate I know that there isn't going to be enough room for the couple of hundreds of students that graduate majoring in elementary education. My question is: Will there be room for me? and What should I do to make myself look better?

Trust me, there is always room for teachers!
I plan on majoring in secondary education (I want to be a high school math teacher) and I just recently had a meeting with my guidance councilor.
There may be hundreds of people that will be in your graduating class and major, but as long as you're a hard worker and keep a positive attitude and such you will have no problem with getting a job.
There are new elementary schools being built constantly. The worst that could happen is that you may have to move to find the right school for you. That's not too big of a deal though.

So, to answer your questions:
1. YES, there WILL be room for you!
2. When you apply to different schools make sure you show enthusiasm and show them that you would truly love to be able to work with their students. If you are called back for an interview then dress properly - business casual is usually okay. Don't sound too nervous, it's not hard to pick up on a lack of confidence. Know that if you don't get that job it won't be the end of the worl. Knowing that helps you to relax, feel more comfortable, and do a better job.

Stay positive and have fun!

Maybe this is a dumb question, and I know I'm definitely a super-impatient person, but how long does it normally take for you to get your letter of acceptance or declination from a college or university after applying?!

thanks!

It really all depends. I just submitted my application to ASU and I won't hear back from them until January =(.
Some colleges will let you know in two weeks; those are usually the smaller colleges with less people applying to them.
Other colleges will take 2 months; those are the bigger colleges with a lot of mail to sort through.

If you go to the college website (Just do a google search for it) it will tell you that if you have your application submitted by a certain date then they will have their answer to you by a certain date.

Do you walk different after u have sex

Nope, sex doesn't cause you to walk differently.
I suppose if the boy was too big for the girl and she's sore she may walk a certain way to comfort herself, but having sex doesn't make you walk differently.

I am a highschool student who is looking into being a chef for a career. I know you must attend a culinary arts based school, but how do they know if your qualified to join there school? I've looked at many websites and it seems they don't have any requirements. I would also like to get my Culinary Arts Bachelor's degree. Does anyone know off hand any colleges that have a culinary curriculm? thanks.

I live in North Carolina and at one point wanted to pursue a cooking career and a restaurant management career so I looked into this a lot. I'm a senior and I've taken all of the foods and nutrition courses offered at my school. I also made sure to get myself Serv Safe Certified so if you are not then you may want to look into that. It would look VERY good to any culinary colleges. They really don't know that you're qualified so I guess it's a really good question. Other than looking at grades I'm sure they ask why you want to go to their school and questions like that to determine whether or not you belong.
Being from NC I would reccommend going to the Art Institute of Charlotte. I have also looked into attending Johnson and Wales University. It was originally an all woman college but now accepts those of both genders. They have an AMAZING culinary arts program. My favorite thing about J&WU is that you can take all of your core classes your freshman year and then jump right into all the classes you need for your major. It's a really fun learning enviornment and there are a lot of hands on activities.

I would check them out if I were you. They are a private school and rather expensive but you hardly ever have to pay the entire cost. They offer so many scholarships and grants, it's amazing. Here is the link to their culinary school.

does anyone hav freckales that knows of any good cover up to get rid of them???

I use mary-kay creme to powder foundation to cover mine up. I also have very pale skin so it's tough to find a color to cover them and not make my face look completely fake.

If you have fair skin like I do then it will be somewhat hard but it is possible. I use some shade of ivory (told you I had pale skin) and then I use a bronzer. Unfortunately the bronzer just kind of makes my cheeks look red rather than darkening my face any. That's besides the point though. Mary Kay actually works okay for me. I used to use covergirl and that did all right too. I'm actually not sure the brand I just recently bought but I got it at CVS. It's just a poweder and it's a bit darker than my natural tone but it works well. I suppose that doesn't help much though =/

Anyway, if you know somebody who sells Mary Kay then go through them. My neighbor sells it and I get it from her half off (otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it!).

Not to be hypocritical but your freckles may look cute on you. Don't try and cover them up too quickly. I only cover mine because they're in this weird spot all over my nose and then kind of partially spread out under my eyes. They look funny haha.

[view]

i had a really bad cold which required me to blow my nose every two minutes adn now my ears are so plugged up its not even funny. and it hurts really bad

HOW DO I GET MY EARS UNPLUGGED?
HELP ASAP!!!

Ooops.. I didn't know that what I said was harmful. YG said not to do it so I assume it's bad... anyway, I'm editing this really late so you probably won't see it, but I don't want harmful advice to be shown on my column or given to other users.
---------------
I'm assuming the feeling you have in your ears is equivalent to the feeling you get in them while riding on an airplane. If that is the case then chewing on anything helps. Most people I know will either chew gum, burp, or something weird like that.

If it's another feeling then I'm sorry, I must have misunderstood.

Anyway, I hope I helped. I hate when my ears feel all clogged up =(

okay so have you seen someone wher it looks like their layout or profile is in a box sort of? Well i want my profile to look like that. But i've been having trouble with doing so. is there like a code to do it? and if so do you know the code for it? pleeease thanks!

I'm not sure how much this will help but I found a website with every code you could ever need.

http://www.myspace-crash-codes.com/blog/codes

Because I am uncertain of the exact code in which you want the best I can do is give you the website. The good thing about this website is that not only does it give you codes, when you click on the links it shows you a picture of what it is supposed to do. That should help out a bit more than the other sites out there.

Anyway, happy searching.
