Question Posted Sunday October 28 2007, 5:42 pm

I've been active on Advicenators since like March, and I am a moderator, and I answer and ask and rate questions like crazy, but I am STILL not a featured user? What do I have to do???

Have you been banned? If so, that takes away your privelege of getting to be featured. Once you've been banned, you'll never be featured - ever.

It's better if you read the FAQ though. It's specifically made for questions like this.

One, you could start of by reading the site FAQ. We prefer that all members have read it at least once. It's a good read. The FAQ will inform you on the answer to this very question and any others you may have about the site.
Also, Razhie is correct. It is only out of luck. If you meet the requirements and have the correct information checked then you just have to wait. There are probably at least 10,000 members of this site. I'm sure about 5-10% of them meet the same requirements as you. About 1% of those have probably been featured. I'm a site admin and have been apart of this site since age 13 (I am about to turn 17 in a week and a half). I have been the featured user probably about 5-7 times. That's in 4 years! You could be featured tomorrow or not for another 2 years - it's 100% random. For some reason I want to say that it used to be picked, but I don't think so.

In my own opinion it should be a lot more difficult than it currently is to be featured and to be an L1 in general.

Next time you have site questions you should really read the FAQ. It's there for a reason.

It's mostly luck hun.

The featured user is selected by a script that randomly picks someone who is eligible. It isn't a person making the choice.

Make sure you have the Would you like to be a featured user someday? box checked on your Profile Settings page, and then update often.

Remember there are a lot of eligible columnists. I've been here since June of 2005, a long-time mod and pretty damn active if I do say so myself, and I've only been the featured user twice that I know of… It only changes every two to three days at best. It takes a while.
