Okay, well there is this really really cute dog that i guess lives in our neighborhood...but apparently his owners dont care about him..i mean the dog is ALWAYS walking the streets..my dad has even seen him on the highway...well today the dog was in my yard so i went out to pet it...and well that was a mistake cuz now im in love with it..(im a REAL animal person!) and i want to keep it...but I have a few problems...
1. My mom will say no immediately and she'll say im not responsible enough (im 14) and that i dont take care of my 1st dog(which is a lie cuz its not MY dog its OUR dog)and she'll mention that i cant keep my room clean (which IS kinda true)
2. The dog has a coller on it..but i really dont think its owners want it because its always roaming around...
I want the dog soo bad because id hate to see it in the middle of the road somewhere...its so cute...but i cant convince my mom to atleast give me a chance to prove her wrong...can ANYONE help me with convincing my mom and the fact that the dog has a coller??
The only way to make your mom see that you are responsible enough for a dog of your own, is to actually be responsible enough.
Start by keeping your room picked up, but really, I don't see what that has to do with owning a dog. The thing that you really need to do is research about how to care for a dog. I know you already own one, but there is no harm in finding out more.
For instance, what will it take to keep this dog groomed?
What will it take to keep this dog fed?
Does it need to go to the vet? Get shots? Get neutered/spayed?
If you know more about the situation, maybe you will be able to convince her that you've thought everything through, and will continue to be responsible aobut the situation.
Now, after you talk to your mom, if she still says that she doesn't want you to keep the dog, then you should definately still help this dog out.
Dogs may be "property" to humans, but it is illegal to let your dog run around the neighborhood. It is not only very dangerous for everyone in the neighborhood, but it's extremely dangerous for the animal. If this dog's owner is letting this happen, then he is not fit to own an animal and this animal should be turned over to the humane society.
Does this dog have a tag on his collar? I'm guessing not, in order to have a tag, then the dog must have been licensed. In order to be licensed, the dog would need a responsible owner. This dog clearly does not have a responsible owner, and a collar is not proper identification.
You see a "stray" dog. Take him in, give him proper care and a better home.
If you are unable to do this, then please bring him to a humane society, or an animal shelter and tell them that he is a very lovable stray dog.

i am 18 and still a virgin! when i see people on tv having sex they make it look like it last forever.does it? i masturbate and the sensation only last about 10 seconds! so will it be like that when i have sex?
The ten second sensation that you feel is the actual orgasm. Sex is not just an orgasm. It's much much more than that.
It's not something that can be really explained until you have actually experienced it.

what exactly do they do when you get a pap smear?
A pap smear is not as bad as most people seem to think it is. Trust me, because of problems with my cervix, I have had hundreds of exams since I was 13 years old.
Most women do not start to get an exam until they are sexually mature, or they turn 18. Your doctor, whether male or female, will be completely professional, and there is no reason to feel shy. You can ask to have a parent present if that would make you more comfortable, but for me, I was more comfortable going in alone.
You will be asked to strip down below the waist, put a towel or sheet around your waist, and sit on a table. Once the doctor comes in, you will be asked to put your feet in the stir-ups and lay down. This will look like what you happens when a doctor is examining a pregnant woman when she is giving birth. There will be a nurse in the room at all times, to help the doctor, but the sheet will cover most of the view.
The doctor will need to put something inside you, and it will clamp open so that your doctor can look inside you. This is a bit uncomfortable, but is not painful.
The point of a pap smear is to take some slides of the fluids inside you. He will take tissue samples by swabbing a large Q-tip on various parts of your anatomy, including your cervix.
Getting a regular pap smear is very important. I am only 21, but like I said, I have had problems with my cervix for over 8 years already. I recently had an abnormal pap smear. The fact that I get regular pap smears quite possibly saved my life. If it had been left untreated, then it would have turned cancerous.
A simply surgery, and two days later I was back to work and school. So, go get your regular pap smears. Even if your young, it definately doesn't mean that your invincible.

PLEASE DONT DELETE!!
I'm sorry, but since you put "PLEASE DONT DELETE!!" I will not approve this question.
If you want to ask it again, without it getting deleted, then I would suggest getting rid of the "PLEASE DONT DELETE!!" and the "I'LL RATE!" Putting those two things are quite annoying and make me, the other level 2 mods, the level 3 mods, and the level 1 mods just want to delete your questions.

You are a prime example of a stupid owner.

I used to be bright and intelligent, I was getting good grades and everything was going well. This year i don't know what happened, my grades have got much lower and I can't seem to get on top of the work. I can't concentrate and I never seem to get any work done. I want to do well in school but I can't concentrate and I just go blank. How do i get my school work back up to the standard it is supposed to be and how do I concentrate more?
You need to find out what is causing this added stress.
I don't know how much I can help you unless I know a little more about the situation, but perhaps this is just something that you need to work out for yourself. Think things through and try to realize what's wrong with you.
Gender and age would help also.
Other than that I would recommend yoga. Go out and buy a begginners yoga book and set aside an hour or so per day, a couple days a week.
Yoga is great for your body, is great exercise, and is a great stress reliever. It also calls for silence and a low lit room, so you will be sort of blocked off from the world. You have no idea how much a short break from EVERYTHING can do for you.
Take time out to organize stuff. If you have things organized, then you will be able to stop worrying about stuff.
Try scheduling time to do things -homework, working out, social time, etc. Things might not work out exactly like the schedule, and thats fine, don't stress if they don't.
But making the schedule will help to realize what you need to do each day, and help you to get those things done.
Hope some of these help, good luck with everything. I definately know what it's like to be stressed, and I've learned a few things about getting over it. It takes ambition. Definately a whole lot of ambition.

I have a Yorkshire Terrier and he's constipated. What can I give him to help him?
Don't give him anything before seeing your Veterinarian.
If you simply try to treat the symptoms, then you won't be able to fix the actual problem, and it will only get worse and give your dog more pain, and cost you more money.
It's also very likely that he's not constipated, but he has a urinary tract infection. When an animal has a UTI, it hurts them to pee, therefore, they pee very shortly, and very akwardly. Many times people will go into a Vet's office thinking that their animal is constipated, but really their animal has a UTI.
This is because, when an animal tries to pee all akwardly with a urinary tract infection, it often looks like they're trying to poo. When nothing comes out for the owner to clean up, the owner often thinks that the dog is constipated.
By going to your Veterinarian, they will be able to correctly diagnose the cause of your dogs problems, and will be able to give you the best prescription for him.
If money is a problem, you should at least call the Vet. By explaining everything, they may be able to save you some money, yet still make your dog feel better. It's always worth a try.
good luck

Well i first got my puppy not to long ago and i was reading a book about them and it said if they bite you grawl at them and in the begging it worked but today i do it and she keeps doing it and biting me and scratching me... what do i do? please help.
DO NOT GROWL AT YOUR PUPPY.
You can't trust every book out there on training dogs. Really, you can't. What is the basis for growling at your puppy? That dogs do it in the wild?
That is bullshit. First of all, dogs have not been the same as their wild ancestors as soon as we put a collar on them. They may have a lot of the same instinct and habits, but they are not the same.
A growl is a sign of aggression. Showing your dog that your aggressive will not make him stop biting, it will only serve to make him scared of you. If he feels that he has a reason to be afraid of you then he will lash out and bite you, before you get the chance to bite him.
Stop growling at your dog, and since that book told you to do it, I would stop using that book for anything what so ever.
If you want a book, then search for "clicker training" or "positive enforcement training" or something else along those lines. I may even be nice enough to call the very reliable dog behavioralist in my area and ask for specific books that he would recommend if you send another question to me reminding me. I would do it now, but it's 12 midnight.
As for my advice to train him not to bite...
-stop growling at him
-ignore his bad behaviors. When he bites you, especially since he's a puppy, he is most likely trying to play. Even if you growl at him, or swat him away, he will think that you are playing back. This will only reward him for biting you. What you should do is ignore him when he does this. Turn around and walk the other way. If he follows and continues to do it, then put him in a pen, or small room for a while. Just a short while though. As soon as he calms down, bring him out and start all over again. If he starts right back up with the biting, then -ignore, -send him to his pen, -start all over again.
-Give her treats and a lot of praise every time he is being good. When you go to play with him, bring along his favorite treats. when he's playing nice make sure to talk in a gently, soothing voice and call him good girl, and stroke her gently.
-Stay strict in your training. Don't be lazy about it. This is the time for him to learn. If you put it off until later, then it will only be much much harder. If you keep him from learning these bad behaviors, or stop them early, then it will be much easier in the long run. Make sure everyone in the family knows that they are not allowed to let her bite them.
Remember that you can't trust everyone that writes a book. I trust my local dog behavioralist very much, and if you send me a question reminding me, I will try to get some very good recommendations for doggy training books.

Hi,
I'm 5"7, aged fourteen and weigh ten stone (which is 140 pounds I think). I know this isn't majorly overweight or anything, but I feel fat and would like, if possible, to gradually get down to nine stone (126 pounds). I wouldn't mind if this took, say a few months.
I exercise regulary but find it hard to stop snacking between meals. Has anyone got any tips into how to stop this?
Or any other gradual-dieting tips.
Any advice would be very much appreciated :-)
I don't see why people are actually giving you information on this. weighing 126 pounds at 5'7" is a bit underweight. I'm at a comfortable weight, where all my friends and family tell me they hate me for being too thin, at 125 pounds, and I'm much shorter than you.
But if you are determined to continue to lose weight, I still wouldn't suggest stopping your mid-meal snacking.
Eating many small meals a day, instead of three large ones is much healthier. You should get into the habit of eating five-eight healthy, small meals spread out throughout the day.

There was no Funky Light category, so Random Weirdos will work.
About 5 days ago, i bought myself a lava lamp. On the package, it stated that i should let it go for 4-6 hours the first time i use it. I've done that and all, but now everytime i use it, it still takes 40-55 minutes to actually get going with the lava.
My question is, to all of you lava lamp experts, is will the "starting up" time get faster? Is there something i can do to make it go a little faster?
Thanks.
I've had my lava lamp for quite a while, over five years at least and it still takes just as long to heat up and get going good.
After about ten minutes, it will "squirt" up, then it will still take a half hour to an hour to actually completely melt and start to move around.
My mother recently kidnapped my lava lamp and she usually keeps it on all day, and turns it off for a few hours in the morning. That way, it's pretty much always hot. You could always try that, just don't over do it or it might crack.

Hi. I have been a columnist for a little while. I have been rated 24 times and until 3 days ago my ratings were shown on my column. My rating has changed a little since I have been a columnist for over a month, with the oldest ones not being counted anymore. I know all of that. My question is, why would my rating disappear completely? I cannot see my ratings on my column but if I click View Feedback I can see all of my ratings. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much and have a wonderful day!
I checked out your column and have something to add to what MFS said. The average rating on your column only shows up when you have been rated 5 times in the last 30 days. In your case, you've only been rated 4 times in the last 30 days.

Hiya,
I've had my rabbits (I have three) for a couple of months now and I am doing great with regards to handling them. They love being stroked and stuff but they aren't so keen on being picked up. I'm pretty sure that all I can do is persevere (but tell me if you think different!). Any tips to get them used to it faster?
No, there really isn't a way to make it go faster, and if you try, it will most likely only hurt the progress that you have made.
Rabbits scare easy, in the wild they are constantly looking out for, and running from other animals who want to eat them. They still have a lot of those "flight or fight" instincts in them.
I can try to give you a few tips to help you out. You may already know them, but maybe not.
You probably already know what their favorite treats are, keep them handy at all times. When you handle them, let them get completely used to you stroking and cuddling them before you try to pick them up. Keep giving them a treat every minute or so as long as they are remaining calm.
When you feel like they will be ready, slowly and calmly put one on your lap. If he is still calm, then continue to give him treats, talk to him softly and pet him softly.
But, if he starts to get upset at all, then set him back down immediately and try again later.
Don't feed him the treats, or pet them while they are acting nervous and jittery. This may seem mean, but if you do these things, then it will only reinforce that they should be acting nervous. If you sort of ignore the nervous behavior and let them do their own thing until they calm down, then they will begin to realize that there is no reason to be nervous.
You should do this with each rabbit separately, and do it as often as possible each day. When you do, keep them in an enclosed area, perhaps a bathroom or small room. Do it in a place where they wont be able to run off and get scared. If they do run off and get scared, then you will have to chase after them. As you can probably imagine, that would be pretty terrifying for a small rabbit.
So
-keep yummy treats handy
-talk softly and slowly
-pet them softly and slowly
-work in a small area
-go very very slowly at the rabbits pace
-if they get scared, immediately stop trying to pick them up and try later.
Good luck.
oh, I forgot something. Be careful when handling rabbits, if they get upset, put them down, do not try to hold them tight. This is important because rabbits will break their back very very easily. If you have small children, then be aware of that also.
Also, you should get them fixed so you don't end up with a housefull of rabbits. It should also help them calm down and make them easier to train, as well as have some good health benefits.

My dog is a sweet Fullblooded boxer. The problem is she wont stop bitting my feet and when I walk she pulls on my pants. She is about 7 mounths, WHAT SHOULD I DO
I just hate it when people answer these sort of questions and they don't know what they're talking about.
It's not normal, nor should you simply tolerate a boxer, or any dog for that matter, biting at your feet and pants.
My roommates dog does that and it's incredubly annoying, yet with a boxer it can be dangerous.
Your dog is probably just playing, but you need to show her that it's wrong to do it.
I don't feel like going through my normal long page worth of "how to train your dog" so, if you really want to find out about this, then read through my column a bit, or ask another question for me to answer later, or call a professional dog behavioralist.
I also hate it when people advize others to put a shock collar on a dog. It's abusive and wrong, and does not teach the dog a damn thing. I could explain, but again, I don't feel like it right now.

iunno why i'm late for most things because i sleep in. i get like 10 hours of sleep a day or i need 10 hours of sleep a day if i dunget 10 hours i sleep in so i get 10 hours. how can i make myself wake up without stalling and needing more sleep?
wow... this was painful to my eyes to try to read.
Anyway, your getting too much sleep.
Trust me. Cut back your sleep times to 8 hours or less. Keep a normal schedule, wake up at the same time each day, and try to go to bed around the same time each night.
Put your alarm clock across the room, so that you have to get up and walk over in order to turn it off, and then immediately take a shower. Perhaps a cool shower instead of a hot shower will wake you up more.
You do not need more sleep, you just need more ambition to get yourself out of bed.

okay, my mom has been going to NY with her boyfriend like every 2 weeks for a month and half..and other times before it. whenever this happens..she says i should watch my brother and sometimes she would sleepover in the city and then it is required that i stay home and watch him. Well, i am getting annoyed with this becuase i want to hang out with my friends..but i can't just tell her to stop gong out, she has a right to also, but i am 16 and i have the right to go out too..How do i talk to her about this and what do I say? PLus..whenver i do get to go out if she is in the city, my friends have to give me rides and they are getting annoyed.
Your not going to like me saying this, but I think your being a little spoiled.
sure, you can talk to your mom, tell her she's not allowed to go out every other week, and you can tell her that she has to be your personal chauffeur. But doesn't that sound a bit selfish?
If you want to go out with your friends, isn't it fitting that they would give you rides? Can't you take a bus, or a taxi, or better yet, get your license, since you are already 16?
The only advice I can give is to ask your mother to get a baby sitter. Don't tell her to stay home, I'm sure she needs to get out more than you do.
She has a right to go out, she is your mother. You don't have a right to go out, you have a privledge to go out. Don't take advantage of the privledges that you have.

Every time i chew something like gum or a meal..my jaw pops/clicks. Anybody know why..or how to stop this? thanks a bunch!
I read the other answers, and a few people gave good advice about TMJ. I had it when I was younger, and yes, it's partly caused by clenching your jaw at night.
I went to a physical therapist to get it fixed, so he taught me actual exercises to do in order to help it, so I have some new information to give you about this.
First, in order to stop clenching your teeth, you need to get used to get used to closing your mouth without closing your back teeth. I never had to use a mouth guard or a retainer, I just did these exercises.
Here is it:
Push your tongue on the roof of your mouth, above your back teeth. Just push up once in a while, and close your front teeth together.
Hold that position, and you'll eventually get used to closing your mouth that way, instead of closing your back teeth together. This will help you to not grind your teeth together at night, and will rest your temporal mandibular joint at night.
Now, stop slouching. Your spine goes all the way up to your TMJ joint, and every time you slouch it is putting pressure on your joint.
next, stop chewing gum, or eating any hard or chewy thing that makes you use your TMJ joint hard. Basically, if your jaw is clicking, don't eat it!
Now, twice a day, you should be laying down and putting a heating pad on each side of your face for thiry minutes. This will heat up the insides of your joint and make them more plyable. While you are heating the side of your face, you should slowly open and close your mouth until it hurts or clicks. The key is to do this day after day until eventually your jaw doesn't click, and it doesn't hurt at all, and you can open your mouth as far as humanly possible.
When I went to the physical therapist he also advised me to continue to practice my yoga. Yoga is very good for your back and spine, so, therefore, it helps out your TMJ joint.

I'm 22/m and my sister just turned 16. We're very close with one another and usually can share anything. Recently, however, she has become more sexually explorative, which is fine, but now seems to be obsessed by it. She told me yesterday that she wants to hook up with this 19 year old freshman in college that I know. They're not dating, but are considering getting to know each other. My sister used to be so righteous and moral and I feel that she's going to just end up hurt with this new sexual discovery. She's thinking about getting ahotel room with this guy this weekend. What should I do? I don't want her to get hurt and frankly, I don't want her to turn into a slut. Thanks =Concerned Brother=
You have to start being her protective older brother. If you know this 19 year old guy, kick his ass if he tries to go near your sister. Thats not right, does he know that your sister is only 16?
Your sister might hate you for a while, but I'm posative that she will appreciate it in the future. That's all that really matters, right?
Try to make sure your sister knows that she can always come talk to you for anything. But you do need to start to worry about her try to help her make the right decisions.
Again, kick this guys ass. A 19 year old should not be getting a hotel room with a 16 year old young girl.
