Question Posted Saturday February 19 2005, 5:38 am
Hi,
I'm 5"7, aged fourteen and weigh ten stone (which is 140 pounds I think). I know this isn't majorly overweight or anything, but I feel fat and would like, if possible, to gradually get down to nine stone (126 pounds). I wouldn't mind if this took, say a few months.
I exercise regulary but find it hard to stop snacking between meals. Has anyone got any tips into how to stop this?
Or any other gradual-dieting tips.
Any advice would be very much appreciated :-)

I am 14 as well 5'1" (yes v. short, you r very lucky u r tall!) and weigh 108. (ha, just three days ago i weighed 106, but that's a different story) I know i'm not fat, but i have some fat on my stomach and thighes and I can't stand that because last year I was so skinny. Snacking it a huge problem for me, as well as dessert after dinner. I am addicted to food (isn't everybody?) and when i stat I just can stop. I found that posting pictures of Victoria Secret models on my fridge-yes it sounds creepy, but it works- stops me and makes me think. I stare at the picture and ask myself if i really need this food. If they can avoid it, then why cant I? so then i walk away and find something to do (not watch tv) like reading, sewing, knitting, anything that involves my brains total concentration.
I hope it helps!!!! Just remember its all in your head! [ vintagerose's advice column | Ask vintagerose A Question ]

I really wouldn't worry about it though. 140 is normal for that height/age. Just make sure you don't lose too much!
xo_dream answered Saturday February 19 2005, 9:33 pm: actually, whoever said 126 was underweight = wrong. not that 14O is overweight, but you know, either is [ usually ] healthy at your height.
anyways, just try to do a little more cardio exercise, and instead of snacking on, say, chips or something, try fruits & veggies, or some other healthy snack. if you drink a lot of soda, try to cut down on that, and you should lose some weight. [ xo_dream's advice column | Ask xo_dream A Question ]

x0xdearachelx0x answered Saturday February 19 2005, 1:28 pm: Well, to stop snacking between meals, you could have better meals. Like eat protein and all that nutricious stuff. Also try not to eat a few hours before you go to sleep.
xxsexyinpinkxx answered Saturday February 19 2005, 1:06 pm: i think that if you like don't buy as much stuff at the store then you won't have anything to snack on so then your body will know that you don't need that stuff and it will shrink and you won't eat as much and you will lose weight thats what i have done and i have lost 10 pounds in a month. so next time your mom or dad goes to the store tell them not to get a lot of snacks if you get any snacks make sure there health and low on calories. sunkistsarah answered Saturday February 19 2005, 10:32 am: I am trying to lose some weight now too. So whatever i give u, i hope it helps out!
Ok maybe you should try instead of 3 big meals a day, try 5 or 6 small meals...the thing you dont want to do is stop eating because the slows down your metabolism a looot. When you DO want a snack, make sure that its healthy. (i know that is my main problem too is snacking) Try snaking on fruits or veggies. And also whatever you do, try not to eat condiments and stuff, like ketchup or mayo...stuff like that really adds up. And also try not to eat anything about 2-3 hours before you go to bed.
I have a bunch of books on dieting so if u need any other advice, feel free to drop one in my inbox. [ sunkistsarah's advice column | Ask sunkistsarah A Question ]

Karen answered Saturday February 19 2005, 9:59 am: If you want to lose weight, you need to stop snacking in between meals, since this won't make you lose weight. If you eat three big meals for a day, start eating five small meals, since this will make your metabolism speed up. Start eating healthier like fruits and vegetables. Stay away from sodas and junk foods. Running or jogging on a treadmill will help too. If you want to stop snacking, put an elastic on your wrist and when ever you get a craving to eat something that is a snack, snap it. You will get used to this and eventually, you won't snake in between meals. Hope I helped :)

selectopaque answered Saturday February 19 2005, 9:27 am: I don't see why people are actually giving you information on this. weighing 126 pounds at 5'7" is a bit underweight. I'm at a comfortable weight, where all my friends and family tell me they hate me for being too thin, at 125 pounds, and I'm much shorter than you.
But if you are determined to continue to lose weight, I still wouldn't suggest stopping your mid-meal snacking.
Eating many small meals a day, instead of three large ones is much healthier. You should get into the habit of eating five-eight healthy, small meals spread out throughout the day. [ selectopaque's advice column | Ask selectopaque A Question ]
Monkey090 answered Saturday February 19 2005, 9:08 am: OK well...you need to tell yourself that snacking is not going to give you what you want...if you really want this then you will try to stop! Ok go walking outside that is good excerise..It doesnt work right away but just walk...dont walk real slow pick up the pace and by a couple of days you will have lost weight and if you keep that up after a couple of months you will have lost some weight! Good luck! [ Monkey090's advice column | Ask Monkey090 A Question ]
XoKisSesoX answered Saturday February 19 2005, 9:05 am: It's ok to snack between meals. But instead of having cookies or something, try having an apple or other healthy food? And for other meals try and have healthier eating habbits. If you exercise regularly and have a healthy diet, you will get down to your target weight in no time.
Aunty Liz answered Saturday February 19 2005, 7:41 am: One of the things that i find works really well is everytime you feel like snacking, drink a pint of water. This not only makes you feel full but flushes nasty toxins out of your system and makes ur skin look healthy! [ Aunty Liz's advice column | Ask Aunty Liz A Question ]
