About 5 days ago, i bought myself a lava lamp. On the package, it stated that i should let it go for 4-6 hours the first time i use it. I've done that and all, but now everytime i use it, it still takes 40-55 minutes to actually get going with the lava.
My question is, to all of you lava lamp experts, is will the "starting up" time get faster? Is there something i can do to make it go a little faster?
xo_dream answered Sunday February 20 2005, 1:17 am: if you turn it on more often & don't leave it off for as long, it should start to get melty faster, but there's not anything you can do to make it get going in say, five minutes, it'll still take quite a while. Erinn_the_bamf answered Saturday February 19 2005, 1:49 pm: Sorry, but it doesn't get faster. Usually the stuff in there floats around for a while then starts to move and stuff. I'm not sure if you can do anything to make it go faster but that stuff is toxic so don't try! I hope I helped! ♥ good luck [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]
rainbowcherrie answered Saturday February 19 2005, 8:46 am: No, sorry but it wont get any faster. My lava lamp has always taken an hour to get going, they don't get any quicker as time goes on. Sometimes it doesn't take as long when I leave the lamp near a hot radiator, maybe you could try that. [ rainbowcherrie's advice column | Ask rainbowcherrie A Question ]
sarah0308 answered Friday February 18 2005, 11:14 pm: ok the reason it takes a while is because the wax (or whatever is in it) has to get warmed up. it doesnt take 5 minutes to warm it up. theres a lot so of course its going to take longer. and no, theres no way to speed it up.

l0o_imperfectly_me_o0l answered Friday February 18 2005, 9:31 pm: Unfortunatly on my lava lamp, the first time I lit it up it took 3 hours, but it still took near and hour every SINGLE time I lit it up. Ugh, I'm not quite sure why, I think it's because the lightbulb takes time to heat the "lava" up. If you aren't already using a 60-watt lightbulb, i suggest you change it. I wouldn't recommend anything above that watt though, or it could catch on fire. [ l0o_imperfectly_me_o0l's advice column | Ask l0o_imperfectly_me_o0l A Question ]
selectopaque answered Friday February 18 2005, 8:57 pm: I've had my lava lamp for quite a while, over five years at least and it still takes just as long to heat up and get going good.
After about ten minutes, it will "squirt" up, then it will still take a half hour to an hour to actually completely melt and start to move around.
My mother recently kidnapped my lava lamp and she usually keeps it on all day, and turns it off for a few hours in the morning. That way, it's pretty much always hot. You could always try that, just don't over do it or it might crack. [ selectopaque's advice column | Ask selectopaque A Question ]
