"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

^my forum, liven it up a little?

advice

Well, I was talking to one of my friend's friends. He's actually a year ahead of me. He was trying to figure out what my name should be or who I looked like. After like two minutes of staring at me he said, "Hm. You look like a dayna. You have bigger....nevermind. I'm not gonna say it." What did he mean? Then him and his friend were talking and my friend had just told them I was spending the night and they were like," Oh, really? Hm." and they started whispering to each other and my friend's friend had some creepy smile on his face. Finally they just went back to playing a game. I said, "Okay. Um. What was that about?" and they just smiled at each other and the one who said something about me looking like a dayna looked me up and down and smiled again. Then my friend was like, "WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO HER?" and they exchanged a look with each other and her friend was like, "Oh, nothing." and smiled again. I'm not spending the night tonight because her mom didn't trust them. But, what were they..or just HIM gonna do? Like draw on my face like immature idiots or..WHAT?

Hmm. Since I wasn't there, I can't really tell if they were kidding, or if they were actaully really excited about you sleeping over. How well do you know these people? Were they likely kidding? Guys can be weird. Maybe talk to them about it, or have your friend ask. It was probably nothing, just boys being boys. YOu were smart not to sleep over though, just to be on the safe side. =]

Sorry if this is the wronge caregory.

My boyfriend of over a year has finially decided to teach me to play pool. He's 20, and has been playing since he was 10. So he is super good. Prob. is I'm super bad. I mean on a scale of 1-10 I'm like a negative 100.

Does anyone have any tips or websites that will help me out?

Thanks.

The best way to learn how to play pool is to practice. Plus, if someone who is REALLY good is helping you, they can tell you when youre doing something wrong.

Here's a couple websites to help you with shots and such, and to get familiar with terminology of the game:

Well, I have been googling a lot lately about diet & excersize & have found that the "key" to good & faster weight loss is to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day. Now, I have to work, of course & I have kids & they are in activities. So, my question is...since most people don't have the time to eat like that, what can I replace those meals with so that I am still getting the same affect? Can I replace the meals with protien shakes & stuff like that? Thanks.

A lot of people probably eat like this without realizing it. Protein shakes are fine, as long as your dont have them for ALL your meals (obviously). Snacks like fruit, yogurt, granola bars, cut-up vegetables, et cetera, you probably already have in the house. These are perfect for a healthy snack/mini-meal in between breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Take them in a cooler or your purse when you're in the car, at work, or out somewhere with the kids, and you're covered.

hope I helped!

okay, does anyone know how to make backgrounds like this-

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9718/intelsweepstakes300x100vo3rw4.gif

or is there some sort've program??

thanks!!

It looks like the person used Photoshop, or a program similar to it. Actaully, you could even make something like that in Paint, if you had the patience. It's simple overlapping shapes, and different colors.
The lettering is just a lot of different fonts. Photoshop Elements is about $100, but it's well worth it if you do a lot of photo editing/manipulation and/or make backgrounds. I know you can get similar versions for free at download.com, but they're usually only free trials.
You can get great *free* fonts at:

hope I helped!

okay so i have this boyfriend. i like him a lot...but he lives one town over from me. i only get to see him like once every 3 months. what should i do?

Well, if he only lives ONE town over, you could probably ask your mom or dad for a ride there. Or maybe an older friend? That's not really that far to drive; it's not like 9237489237 miles away.

My eye-lashes are extremly long, the problem is they clump together. To prevent this I wear mascara (I don't really need it, I just use it for the latter purpose). Snce my eyelashes are so long, it takes them a good 5 minutes to dry. I can't go with out blinking for 5 minutes so every time I blink it gets all over my face, which is a pain to get get off and ruins the rest of my makeup. My question is... does clear mascara really work? Or does anybody know some really fast fast fast drying mascara? thanks!!!

Yes, clear mascara will work for what you want it to do. It sperates and holds them in the same place. It also works well on uncontrollable eyebrows.

how can you get rid of eye puffiness(underneath) when you dont get enough sleep. that i can use at home without buying anything.

Cold spoons (put two in the fridge for about an hour or so)

Also, a tea bag on each eye will help. Cucumber or potato slices (chilled) too.

If you're short on time, a cold facecloth will reduce puffiness as well.

hey everyone... im 13/f and I have a serious problem sweating underneath my arms. I have tried a couple special deoderants, but they didn't work. Once I started shaving my under-arms last year was when all the sweating started.I heard there was a shot you could get to stop/not swaet as much...?? If anyone has ANYY info on this shot(name, price, where i can get it....) plzzzzzzz help me!!!!Thankx

The shot you're talking about is Botox injactions. Botox is injected into your sweat glands and it keeps you from sweating so much.

I'm not sure how old you have to be for a doctor to legally do this, since your body's changing a lot right now and it may subside on its own.

Here's an article I found on WebMD.com:
http://www.webmd.com/content/article/91/100938.htm

A doctor can diagnose your problem, since it may just be stress-related. From waht I read on WebMD, there's many other options besides Botox so a doctor can decide what's best for you.

good luck!

i get pimples on my chin. gross i know. but they are like under the skin and hurt like a bitch. is it best to just leave them alone. or should i get the crap out of them quickly. and what can i do so i stop getting them. i dont get pimples anywhere else.

Put a hot facecloth over them, them gently squeeze all the stuff out of them. Then put a spot treatment over the area (it'll sting, but it'll help). If the problem gets really out of control, see a dermatologist. Also, since you only get pimples in one area, it's possible you're missing that spot washing your face.

My boyfriend and i would like to do something. We never know what we should do and we just want to have fun. what are some ideas of things that we can do, he hurt his hip so we can't walk and can't use his right arm cuz he hurt it. Please help us out.....
NO SEX!!!!!!
(or nudity for that matter)

Maybe rent a couple movies and make him dinner. It'd be a lot cheaper than going to a movie anyway.

Or you can always sit and TALK to each other. Playing board games could be fun, or maybe have a couple friends over (who aren't careless, or they may hurt his hip)

Other than those ideas, anything non-physical that would kepe his mind off the pain would be great. Then again, he's probably estatic that he has a girlfriend that cares about him this much! That would make ANYONE feel better, knowing someone cares about what they're going through.

Hope he gets better soon!

If you want to look good for like, a pool party or something, will this work...?

The day before, eating really healthy like all fruits and vegetables and whole wheats maybe, and excercising a lot, and then the day of the party not eating at all, except for water and then doing like, 200 crunches before you left, would that make you look at least a little bit skinnier? I don't mean like, 10 pounds, just look a little better.
thanks

The crunches would make your stomach look more toned. I read it in Seventeen a couple months ago.

As for the eating healthy part, it definitely couldn't hurt. But shouldn't we all be eating healthy EVERY day? Just a thought.

Don't worry so much about how you look- confidence is key.

I help out with the band Iceland [www.myspace.com/icelandicband] and they asked me to advertise over myspace and in person. For myspace bulletins - how can I make them really creative & appealing? I want people to add them, and it's my resposibility. Help?

thanks in advance

Use lots of HTML and color. Have a picture of the band somewhere. And make the bulletin title something like "Check out this awesome band" because if you make it something lame like "I THINK IM PREGNANT HELP ME" nobody will want to post it or open it.

How can I curl my hair to get those soft big waves all the celebs have now? I tried once, ( I used 2inch velcro curlers ) but my hair look like a big mess when I took them out. Do I sleep in them, do I need to put moose or serum in? If so, which ones. Do I do it wet, dry, or damp? Please help, any tips, links, or secrets would be great!

If you have naturally curly hair:
After showering (or mist your hair with a spray bottle) put some serum, mousse or gel in. Blow dry it as you normally would, only use a paddle brush (or something along those lines) to kind of "smooth out" your curls. Almost like blowdrying straight, only you're making it wavy, not straight. Finish with hairspray.

If your hair is naturally straight:
With your hair damp (from a shower or misting with water) apply a serum, gel, or mousse. either twist it into five or six braids, or use soem curlers (the size you have should be fine, but you may want to try mixing in a 1.5 inch too, for variety). Leave them in either for a few hours or overnight. In the morning, take them out, then comb your hair VERY GENTLY with either your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Finish with hairspray.

hope I helped!
P.S.- This is what a paddle brush and wide-tooth comb look like, if you're not sure. =]

Whats the best brand of stuff to use for acne to go away?? I have clearisil. It works somewhat.. See Ive never really been a person who gets acne alot..but one every while i get like 2. But i was justwondering what works the best incase i do develop acne. THANKKS!

Clean and Clear Advantage is a great spot treatment. It seriously works in a day- within a couple hours, it'll start to dry up zits and make them a LOT less noticeable. If you get a REALLY red blemish, try putting a little Visine on it. Sounds crazy, I know. But just like it does for eyeballs, it makes acne less red too!

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash is an effective, gentle cleanser. Another good cleanser is St. Ives Apricot cream cleanser. Neutrogena has another product, called Clear Pore cleanser/mask. It works well, but I don't recommend it if you have super-sensitive skin, because a lot of people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide. It's worth a try, though, if salicylic acid doesn't work for you.

Lastly, if you ever do develop moderare to severe acne, ask your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist. You'll only need two or three vists tops, and they can give you antibiotics and treatments like Retin-A that work better than ones you can buy at a drugstore.

hope I helped!

i really want to lose weight on my arms and my stomach and my legs any ideas please help.!!

Running and walking will significantly imporve the appearance of your legs. Crunches will help your stomach, and pushups will help your arms.

All those exercises will help tome the areas you mentioned. Also, drink lots of water and eat lots of fruits and vegetables (blah, blah, blah, I know) I'm not telling you to diet. There's a difference between watching what you eat and actually dieting. If you DO want to lose a couple pounds, cutting out extra sugar and such will help. Again, that's the difference between watching your diet and dieting.

good luck!

What is a good FREE antivirus program to download?

http://www.lavasoft.de/

Go to the link on the left-hand side that says "ad-Aware Personal"

This is the best program I've had on my computer. It gets rid of spyware, adware, and all the icky stuff that makes your computer SUPER slow. It can also get rid of Trojans that haven't infected your system, as I discovered the other day.

There's also Microsoft Anti-Spyware. I beleive you can download it free from the Microsoft website. You may also already have it- use your computer's search feature.

hope I helped!

please please help me. my hair has been horrible my whole life and i absolutely hate it. it is extremely thick frizzy wavy and coarse. i try straightning it and it gets straight but then it just gets frizzy. i think its damaged. i dont know. ive tried all kinds of frizz control and shampoo and conditioner that makes your hair smoother but it doesnt work.do you know of anything that will help my hair? i dont want to go to a hairdresser or anything but is there just really good hair products that you could get at like walmart or something? please help me. i really need your help.

First, I'd suggest getting your hair cut. Dead ends, split ends, fried ends, et cetera; they'll make even the best hairstyle go frizzy and icky in a matter of minutes. Plus, a good trim will make it seem less thick.

For shampoo, use something for dry, frizzy hair, such as Pantene or Herbal Essences. Or, if you're going the salon shamoo route, Bed Head is AMAZING. Ask the person who cuts your hair what she'd suggest. But you don't need really expensive shampoo, I've had good experiences with everything I've suggested.

Doing a hair mask one or twice a week makes your hair shiny and soft. You can buy jars of the stuff at a store, but I've found the best one is olive oil. Heat about a quarter cup in the microwave(or little more, I depending on how thick and long your hair is) of plain old olive oil; you dont need anything fancy; supermarket brand is fine. By the way, before you do this one, have a bottle of clarifying shampoo handy. Suave makes one; it's clear and is like, a dollar at WalMart. It'll get the oil out quicky and won't leave anything behind. Additionally, don't apply the oil to your roots, they'll end up oily and icky (i know from experience)

Also, what kind of straightener are you using? The best ones are ceramic- they get SUPER hot but won't fry your hair as much. But make sure your hair is TOTALLY dry (a blow-dryer helps). If you don't have the time to wait, the Remington Wet2Style works really well, and is only about 30-35 dollars. Before straightening, put something in your hair to protect it. A serum is best. I use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny- it's $17 a bottle, but it lasts a really long time. Garnier Fructis works about the same, but won't smell as good. (Hairspray will help to hold your style and keep humidity from turning your hair into a total frizball)

Straightening takes forever, so for the days you're not up to flatironing your tresses, a good hairgel and the serum I've already mentioned is all you need. After you get out of the shower, comb through your hair with detangler (crazy as it sounds, Suave for Kids is the best I've ever used. And it smells like apples.) After you get all the tangles out, squeese out the extra water, then put a couple drops of serum in. When your hair is about half dry, put some hair gel in. Herbal Essences has really good stylers, but any brand will work fine. Pick out the one that you like best & is best suited to your hair. As your hair dries, a wide-tooth comb will seperate your hair and keep it from drying in clumps. Finish with some hairspray and you're done!

hope I helped! If you need anymore product suggestions or anything, don't hesitate to ask me! (I also have AIM - LauraxoMichelle)
