Unfortunately the only way to lose weight is overall. That means eating less than you burn, proper diet and exercise. Any exercise you do will help by burning a certain amount of calories. However, doing sets of push ups or whatever will in no way whatsoever reduce the fat on your arms.
The correct answer to the question (as you worded it) is: thats impossible. There is no way to target those areas without targeting other areas too. The order of the fat loss is not in our hands.
If you want to lose weight, try follow some of these tips:
- Eat often (4-6 small balanced meals a day)
- Exercise (preferably weights and cardio, although any exercise is good)
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat balanced (your calories should be split in a 40-40-20 ratio ideally, carbs-protein-fats)
- Avoid saturated fats
- Generally stay away from food that you know is bad for you (e.g. things with sugar added, deep fried stuff etc).
Sorry this is not the answer you wanted, but there is no need to spend the next year doing some isolation exercise or whatever, and wonder why the hell it isnt working.
LM answered Sunday July 30 2006, 5:39 pm: Running and walking will significantly imporve the appearance of your legs. Crunches will help your stomach, and pushups will help your arms.
All those exercises will help tome the areas you mentioned. Also, drink lots of water and eat lots of fruits and vegetables (blah, blah, blah, I know) I'm not telling you to diet. There's a difference between watching what you eat and actually dieting. If you DO want to lose a couple pounds, cutting out extra sugar and such will help. Again, that's the difference between watching your diet and dieting.
marti answered Sunday July 30 2006, 5:29 pm: You should do 3 sets of 10 push ups each day and gradually move your arms closer together as u go and playing DDR helps a lot. Swimming is a big one too and also doing lunges. Go into a lungs position like you are about to run but go straightn into the air and that shall tone your thighs. Land with leg bent on pointed toes. Do 3 sets of ten. Jumping jacks as warm up and cross sit-ups help too! good luck [ marti's advice column | Ask marti A Question ]
xldywing answered Sunday July 30 2006, 5:18 pm: basically, to work on your arms, pushups are a big deal. you might want to try working with weights. but if you're not comfortable, it isn't absolutely necessary. for your stomach, crunches and situps will do just fine. side pushups are good too. as for your legs, do some lunges for your thighs and to work everything. go running or do an active sport! get every part of your body moving. (swimming is an especially good sport to tone up muslces - working in the water by swimming the different strokes work all your muslces) don't forget a healthy diet with lots of calcium! and remember to cut down on sodium (salt) and calories. & drink lots of water! g`luck!
