Q: what kind of motivation can help me loose weight???

Motivation? Do what I did... buy a new bathing suit, or a really cute outfit, and set a rule for yourself; you can't wear it till you lose the weight you want to lose. Set a reasonable goal for yourself though, don't make it unattainable.

Q: im having a bit of make up trouble. some people wear tons of makeup, and look really good, and some people just plain over do it. I know i dont over do it. sisnce i only put on:
lip gloss
foundation
concealer
& thats all. but i want to look pretty. without looking like some circus clown. and ideas on what to put on and how to do it? no web sites please :)

I personally think that anyone who wears more than 3 items of makeup for day-to-day wear is overdoing it, but that's just me. I go for just mascara, lip gloss and sometimes blush for just hanging out with friends or going to class (I don't need foundation/concealer), but what you're doing sounds wonderful... definitely don't overdo it, cuz guys like more natural beauty :)

Wait it out... first of all, you will likely develop once you hit puberty and start menstruating. Also, keep in mind that it's really not that big a deal. Feel lucky to be whatever size you are, because trust me, having large breasts is NOT all it's cracked up to be... I have back problems and can't wear a lot of clothes I'd like to because I'm a larger-chested girl.

Q: My mom is bugging me to death. I've told my friends about everything that she does NOT let me do and they agree with me: it's ridiculous. I'll turn 16 in about 3 weeks. Anyways, she won't let me have a myspace because people get raped and stuff through that. Well the ONLY information about me that's on my myspace is my first name. I lied about my age and city and state on it. AND I set my profile to private, and I still can't get on it. It's not only myspace, it's parties. When I go to a party, I have to be home by 11 pm, and all my friends (even freshmen!) can stay 'til whenever the party is over. Not only that, but she won't stop asking me what I do at the parties. She'll say "How was the party? What did you do?" And I'll say "Good. Nothing." because she doesn't need to know everything (and no I don't do anything illegal or have sex or anything). She even asked my sister once what I did at a party because I told her, and she told my mom that we played truth or dare and I got kissed twice (which is true but who cares??). My bedtime is 10:30 and my friends don't have a bedtime. ALL my friends think that she's having trouble "letting me go" and I agree but how do I tell her that hey I'm about to turn 16 leave me alone? Today I got on myspace cuz I'm at my dad's house and my bitchy sister had to call my mom and tell her. Now my mom is mad. What do I do about all this?

I hate to say this, but look at things from your mother's point of view. I honestly until this year thought my parents were idiots, and too restrictive, and weren't giving me any credit as being an adult. Now that I'm away from home, I respect their opinions and advice, and wish that I had been closer to them instead of turning away their protection.
I KNOW you're sick of hearing this (and I was too, believe me), but at 15 years old, you're not an adult yet. You're not necessarily fully capable of making the wisest decision, where someone with more life experience can. I'm not being condescending here, because I know how much it used to piss me off. I'm only 18 now, but having been away from home for a year, it's taught me a lot about maturity, and how even when I thought I was mature and self-sufficient at 15, I really wasn't.
I know it sucks having an early curfew, an overprotective mother, and a bedtime, but trust me on this one. Girls get raped, assaulted, murdered and hurt, and your mother just wants the best for you.
Keep in mind the fact that I'm not old, I'm only 3 years older than you... but I've seen what's happened to people who walk into things without fair warning. Only a few weeks ago, I had to go to the walk-in clinic with my friend who was raped while she was drunk, and I wouldn't wish a similar experience on anyone.

Q: should your boyfriend/girlfriend come before your best friend?
please explain too ♥ thanks.
|
|
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
I had a really good friend who whenever she would be dating would treat me and my other friends like crap... what ended up happening was that when she would break up with the guy, we would be there for her no matter what... eventually, we gave up on this, and she was alone when she broke up with her last boyfriend.
We've all heard the line "chicks before dicks", and it's something that we should all definitely stick to; like me for example, I make sure to spend a night a week with the girls (at least) even when I'm dating, and I've never cancelled on them so I could see my bf.

Q: Ok, well here is my problem. There is this kid Matt in my school, and I like him a whole lot. Probably the only girl at school that does like him but I do. People always ask me what I see him and I can't answer that question but I see something and I know what but I just can't explain it. I just like him. Sue me. Matt is really nice to me when me and him are talking alone, like yesterday we ran the mile in school for P.E. and he ran with me the whole time, and we talked alot but I didn't tell him anything about liking him because I had asked him before if he liked me and he said no so I dropped it but didn't move on. When Matt is around his friends he acts really different. He is rude and really obnoxious and it makes me really mad because he is such a nice guy without them. Matt told me one time when I asked him if he liked me or not that he doesn't but that is not what most people who know I like him say. In history class he sits behind me and pokes me and always tries to get my attention. I must admit I like it but I hate being confused about him liking me or not. I have a great boyfriend now and he makes me really happy. I am kind of getting over Matt, or trying to anyway but it is not working. My boyfriend knows I like Matt because I am honest with him and I told him. My question is to you, what should I do about Matt?
|

Matt sounds like a good friend; I have lots of guy friends who are the same! Sounds to me like you're happy with the man you have, and you like the companionship that Matt provides.
I think you might be confusing friendly feelings with romantic feelings (as I so often do) because of the fact that he's a guy, so just remember that you can definitely be friends with him! There's really nothing that has to be done about him :)

Q: Hey
Does anyone know any good novel books you would recommend reading. I want to read but i want to read something good. Help! I rate 5's.
Can it be for ages 12-16 PLEASE?

Well, it all depends on your level of reading... the ones I'm going to suggest are all adult books that are relatively age-appropriate, because I've been reading adult books since I was 10 (missed the teen book phase!)
Sci Fi--
Nightfall by Isaac Asimov : It's about a world that lives in perpetual light, and what happens when the inhabitants experience darkness for the first time.
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card : About a boy who is sent to a battle academy in space, has an AMAZING ending.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy : Absolutely hilarious, a hundred times better than the movie.
Other--
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry : A great book about the caste system in India... very long, but absolutely amazing
White Oleander : About a girl who goes through the foster system after her mother is imprisoned.
Watership Down : A really good book about a rabbit warren, it relates really well to human society.
Hope I helped!

Q: In english, I'm supposed to come up with a creative way to portray anything important in any of the books we've read all year .. and I can't come up with anything.
It's almost totally free. People have drawn pictures, done artwork, written poetry, and reenacted things in the books in the past. I'm willing to do anything that doesn't involve singing or acting but I just can't think of anything creative enough. (Some people in the past have done things like: done a paper mache bust of Othello, illustrated a Mah Jong table from Joy Luck Club, and written poetry on an old-fashioned looking scrawl for Othello.) So I was wondering if someone could help me come up with something.
We've read, this year: A Tale of Two Cities, The Joy Luck Club, 1984, Lord of the Flies, and Othello.
Thanks!

Oooo (for 1984) what about a diorama of the room above the shop that the characters hid in... you could even make the box that it's in look like a television monitor... or you could make a Big Brother poster!

Q: There is a guy I really like (who also has the slight potential of liking me back). He's very funny and actually very polite and nice. However, he doesn't seem to be a very devout Christian, because he cusses. Even though I cuss sometimes, I feel like he may have a bad influence on me in that way, and I know from Bible study that I'm supposed to surround myself with people who share my beliefs and are going to be a good influence. But there seems to be something wrong with that, because if I cuss now and then, I may be a kind of bad influence on others too, and they wouldn't want to be around ME either. I guess what I'm trying to ask is...would it be okay to continue to flirt with this guy and (if it works out right) date him? Sorry, this was kind of long and confusing... btw, I'm almost 16, if that helps any.

Everybody's different, and it's a good thing to celebrate those differences.
If the cursing bothers you, think of it this way... back in the Victorian times, a lot of everyday words were considered highly inappropriate... and the Pilgrims freely used words that nowadays are considered profanity. It's all a matter of current societal values, so if you don't care what society thinks, it's not a problem :)

Q: I am 13, and all my friends shave their legs except me and one other peron. I always tell my mom to wash my sweat pants. She is like "If your wearing thooses just because you don't shave your legs than well go to the store and get you a razor!" And of course I say "What, No Mom!" because I don't like talking to her about that kind of stuff.(shaving, periods, dating, boys, whatever)
I want to shave because every one always looks at me wierd when they can see my legs and I have never worn a skirt shorter that my ankles since I was a little kid. I REALLY want to shave my legs, but I just don't how to tell my mom or what to say to her. What should I do?

Q: ok for my 16th birthday I want to have a Toga party. I want to have like techno, pop, and rock music. I have a few questions:
-Does Party City have togas? (in Texas if that helps?)
-What all should I have to do at the party?
-What kinds of food? (keep in mind it's roman related)
-what kinds of activities//games should I do that would be fun for people my age?
-Karaoke? (most friends are in the upper choirs)
-Toga Twister? haha (a friend suggested that.. but of course with shorts under)
-Black lights?
any other things you would like to add would be greatly appriciated! or any other ideas for a party. I'm the kind of person that's a little "off the wall"//"crazy" so if y'all have any unique party ideas feel free to share them!

Awesome! I just went to a toga party on Friday, it was hilarious!
You can easily make your own toga, just use 4 yards of fabric (any fabric will do, I made mine out of white and red polka dot material!) and use instructions from the internet. It'll be a lot cheaper than buying a toga, and more fun to make!
Try searching online for Roman recipes... for my Grade 11 Ancient History class's Roman Feast, we had to bring in authentic Roman food, and it went over great.
Just a warning as for toga twister... great idea, but togas are REALLY hard to move in. I mean REALLY hard! But if you can hike them up, that would be sooo fun!
Have fun with it!

Boys are idiots at your age! I too am a curvy gal, and I didn't get asked out even though people told me I was beautiful... I was so confused, until I came to university.
Once boys grow up enough to realize that beauty isn't just what the media tells you it is, they'll come flocking to you (just like they did to me!)

Q: Yesterday I went to PacSun with my friend. I walked into the back of the store, because the hoodies were marked down. As we were browsing, an employee walked past us and sort of stopped. We both looked at him. He went, "Hey!" in the friendlist voice. I was shocked by his charisma, really, I haven't seen anyone so gorgeous. I said "Hi!" back, and we both laughed like little kids. He asked me if I needed any help, and I asked him if he could find a medium for me. When it was time for me to buy it, he looked at me incredulously (but still friendly) and told me he'd hold it for me while I looked around more. I told him that was all I wanted and he kept insisting. Then, you know how you're staring at something so beautiful everything the person is saying is muffled? That's what happened, when I heard him say something about my face. I know it wasn't bad, because he smiled, almost flirtingly. I gave in and looked around more. When I went back, I said that was all I wanted, and he was like, "Are you sure? I mean It's not really the season for hoodies" Please note that when I was talking to him, I was beet red in the face and I was showing all signs of nervousness. He asked if I was alright about 5 times. He was like, "Is it something I did?" I thanked him and walked out of there. A few questions: Do you think he wanted me to stay because he wanted me to buy more, or stay longer because he was attracted? I never asked him his name, and I'm so desperate, I called Pacsun twice, then hung up because a girl picked up! I thought about him and regret how I never asked for his name..or age. I'm 14 years old. I hope to death he is young because If I ever hook up with him, I don't want it to be RAPE! I desperately need help. Pleaseeee. I will rate 5's.
Plus, what can I do when I go back to the store? I want to come back and say something, but I need suggestions. Thank you so much in advance. Sorry for the length.

Hate to say this... but I worked in retail for 3 years, and I know a good salesman when I hear about one.
Remember that they're trained to get you to buy more! If him being cute, friendly and flirty did the job, that's what he'll do. I know for a fact that I made more sales at my mostly male customer based job when I was a little flirty.
Sorry :( but there's no harm in going back and having a good look at him :P

(again safe sites) I
want to get into creative arts and communications so if i knew more i could probly play with pics of us and get something but i dont know enuff or how to yet, what im thinking is like how on Conan Obrein does celebrity couples and show their possible kids. u know??. something like that is what id like to try to see and or create!!

Well, oriental features are dominant, so chanves are they'd look like her with a few caucasian features. As for sites where you can mix and match, I tried to search and couldn't find anything :( I think that pretty much, you'd have to use photoshop to do that.

Q: okay, so i have known this girl for a long time, and i think she is the most beautiful girl on the planet, and i absolutely love her, but last year, i asked her out, and she said no and completely shunned me and the whole school makes fun of me now. i love her, and i would really like her to know that, and i want her to be my friend at least again, but she won't even talk to me since then. i even had to spend 2 hours with her during this group activity the other day at school, and she didn't say A WORD!!! not a single thing (to me, anyway). so does anyone have any thing that could get her to like me again? a certain charm, something to say, a style change, anything? it would really help...

Silly question... why do you love her? If she was mean to you and isn't talking to you, I don't understand how you can love her!
There is no magical phrase or change in style that can make somebody grow up and stop being ridiculous (as she is).
Obviously, you're a nice guy, so don't stress too much over it. There are lots of girls out there who WON'T act like idiots if you tell them you like them.

Well, in general, from what I know, you would have to take a competency test if your university is not accredited in Canada. I know a man in my classes (first year engineering) who had 15 years of work experience plus a bachelor's degree back home in India, but he has to re-do his schooling because he did not qualify.
Good luck, though! Glad you're thinking about moving here :)

Q: Next year, I'm going to college, and I am freaking out =(. I'm worried that it will be really hard and that I won't be able to maintain a 3.0 GPA (the requirement to keep my great scholarship effective). So a few questions.
1. Is college really hard? How much time would you say do you have any free time (meaning not having to study, go to college, or work)?
2. Is maintaining a 3.0 possible? (not only possible, but probable?)
3. Are teachers/professors as understanding/nice as high school teachers, or are they "down to business and won't take any crap"? (lol)
Thank you!! Please add any other things that I should know (besides not partying hard and stuff like that..I know)

Well, I'm a first year Engineering student in Canada, so I don't know how different it is in the U.S. I do know that our schools tend to be more difficult (not to be condescending, but we do take more courses!)
1. It is hard. A lot harder than high school is. It is all courses that you enjoy, however, so it's a lot more fun than high school ever was. It's quite possible to have a ton of free time, or no free time, depending on how much you do. I know for a fact that the people who do every single suggested question and every assignment, although they have the highest averages, they have no social lives. It's all about prioritzing and finding that fine balance between work and play. I had 7 courses last term; calculus, newtonian physics, engineering ethics, engineering design and graphics, linear algebra, and chemistry, with philosophy as my elective. This term, I have 6 courses; calculus, electromagnetic physics, design projects, materials science, computer programming and my elective, economics. Keep in mind that I'm in the hardest faculty in an extremely hardcore academic school; it won't necessarily be like this for you.
2. A 3.0 is quite possible. All you have to do is go to class, do your work, and study hard!
3. Profs tend not to be as saccharine as high school teachers, but I love my profs. Yes, they don't take any shit, but they're a lot more fun than my teachers ever were... I have a calculus prof who likes to use gory death situations in his examples, and several profs who can make fun of their students. They tend to respect you more as adults, and they definitely know what they're teaching you!
As for things I'd tell you:
-don't drink too too much, bad things can happen.
-have fun! Do weird things! My friends and I have a tradition of eating pizza in strange places (like up a tree!) and going for 4am Burger King runs. It makes life more fun and bearable when you're stressed out.
-get involved! If your faculty has a spirit group, try out for it! You want to remember these as the best years of your life.
-one of the most important things ever... break out of your comfort zone. I had a paralyzing fear of acting, and I got involved my first week of school in the airbands. I ended up acting in front of 4500 people! It completely made my frosh week better, knowing that I could break down my barriers.
If you have any more questions regarding this, my msn address is amanda_scott_87@hotmail.com. I'm a Frosh Week representative for my school, and a mentor for incoming students as well, so I can definitely answer any of your questions.

Q: Hi! I recently got out of the military. I want to start my schooling, but don't what to major in. I know a job in the medical field would give me great satisfaction. Of course there are so many jobs and specialties to choose from. I want to ultimately pursue a career as a dermatologist. Because the schooling is extensive, and standard for grades high, it can be intimidating. I considered a registered nursing degree. This is a popular profession nowadays and the programs are VERY competetive. I don't know what to do.
Thank you for your help!!!

Nursing is a VERY high-demand field, and offers a medical career that does not require a full 8-12 years of schooling (which is what you would be looking at if you went into dermatology).
Pretty much, nursing will get you a job, guaranteed!

My Personal Forum
My name is Amanda and I'm 26 years old. I'm currently studying electrical engineering. Armed with a fairly odd sense of humour and a sunny outlook on life, I'll take on just about anything. I'm also cussedly stubborn, which has its ups and downs. Things get tough sometimes, and I've never been one to run from it.
In my last 8 years with Advicenators, I've gone from honours student to failing out of university (and getting back on top again!), from single to married, from tenant to homeowner.
Until lately, I have been struggling with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and OCD, which had basically ruined my life and taken just about everything from me. I'm thankful every day for every experience I've had because of this ordeal, because it's helped to make me who I am today. Things like that really make you appreciate what you do have. Now that I'm back in work and school and starting to become myself again, I couldn't be happier. I credit Advicenators with saving my life back when I was a teenager, which is a big part of why I'm still here.
I won't necessarily give you the answers you want to hear, but I'll always be honest and do my best to help.
