Underweight?

Question Posted Tuesday July 11 2006, 12:40 pm

I'm 13 years old and I'm about 5'4. I once heard that if you're 5 feet tall, your supossed to weigh 100 pounds, and for every inch after that, it's another 5 pounds. Well, that would mean that I'm suposed to weigh about 120 pounds, but i only weigh 95. Does this mean I'm 25 pounds UNDERweight? It seems that if I gained 25 pounds, I'd be looking near obese. I don't feel or look underweight. Am I?

i'd say you're not underweight. i mean.. i'm 5'5 and 100 lbs and i think it looks healthy. so if you unless you're like.. anorexic looking then it's fine! :)

probably not. everyone's body frame is different, and you don't HAVE to weigh a certain amount. You may be a little skinny, but as long as you eat healthy and stuff, you're fine.

probably not...it really all depends on you...not every person should weigh the same, even if they're the same height...differnt things come in to play such as bone structure, muscle mass, etc. Just ask your doctor. If they're ok, then you are too.

luck

I think that you're weight is normal for you. Not only is it based on your height but also your age. You are only basing it on your height. Honestly, I wouldn't stress about it. It's not like you have an eating disorder or anything. Just keep eating right. Hope I helped you.

DancinCutie08 answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 8:48 pm:
I dont think thats realistic at all. beacause some people at 5 foot are bigger boned naturally or have more muscle than others although most people at 5 foot are about 100 pounds. I wouldnt think you are under weight at all though. like about a year ago i went to the doctor and i was 5' 1/2" feet and about 115 pounds and she said i was in a better percentile then 6 monthes before when i was about 5 pounds less and i was in a better percent tile then as well compared to now when im 5'1 1/2" and about 110 pounds.

weight usually deals with age just as much as height. being 13 you most likely just ended a growth spurt so you arent going to be as heavy as you will be when you are my age (16)

I don't think you have anything to worry about

it's different for everybody. generally, that rule is more for like a person with an average body and average sized bones. but, you're figure is probably slim and you probably have smaller bones, which is totally normal. everyone is different

hope i helped xoxo

That's just like the general rule. People, hello! I'm sorry but it isn't whether or not you think you are okay unless you are some special in health care. It certainly isn't whether or not you feel good about yourself. The real way to find out if you are the right weight is contact your doctor. They should also tell you at your anual check up. Ask your doctor what the right weight is for YOU. But seriously, to gain weight, gain muscle. I'm not saying that you aren't muscular but you seem to not have alot of muscle weight.

this could help, but if it says you're underweight dont worry about it, if you really think you're getting out of hand ( which as of now you're not ) maybe you should talk to a parent or doctor.
well good luck, hope i helped !

It sounds to me like you are just fine. To be sure try using a BMI calculator. Just type in BMI calculator on the net and one will pop up.

I don't know what you look like, so I can't exactly say if you are overweight or underweight for sure, but keep in mind muscle weighs more than fat and you have bone mass, therefore factors like these can effect your weight. If you don't look underweight, you're fine. Don't worry about it. Hope this helps.

hmmm..i dont think your underweight.it depends on your frame.you probably have a small frame (small bone structure(sp?)) for your height,so its not bad to be 95.im really "supposed" to be underweight (my bmi is 17 on a website) but for me-but i look normal-its the same situation.also every inch after is supposed to be 5 pounds-its not the same it varies person to person-maybe 3 pounds every person i dont know :p dont believe websites to much ^.^ well i hope i helped !!

well, clinically your underweight, because your bmi score is 16.332, and the underweight score is <20. but i think that to be really underweight, you have to feel it.

that is a picture of a woman that is your height and weight, that is definatly ont nearly obese.

hope it helps

lulabelle answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 1:30 pm:
Your doing great. Don't pay attention to those charts. They are so confining and are a reflection of someone else's opinion. If you feel good, are healthy, and like they way you look? Then I'd pay no attention to what anyone else ever says and that goes for people that the charts say they are overweight too.

Namaste!

There is nothing wrong with you. I am also underweight and there is nothing wrong with me. If you are really upset about this maybe you could talk to your mom about taking you to the doctor. And other people might be jealous of you because you are underweight. Don't be so worried. Best of luck.

miren2k answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 1:17 pm:
Your not considerably under weight, your fine, girls worry too much about weight... I think you should eat a bit more, not to put on weight, just to enjoy yourself, i'm a guy and i'm 16 and I weigh 150 pounds and i'm healthy and fit.

If you think you quite skinny though you might want to eat a little more, or take a mental note of what you eat on an average day, makesure it's enough. If you want to ask a friend if you look underweight then ask a GUY not a girl. =]
