Question Posted Wednesday March 9 2005, 4:39 pm

I'm a really good singer. All of my friends have said so, and are threatening to take me too American Idol when I'm 16. And I love to sing. But when I go to do it in front of some people I get really nervous and choke up. Any suggestions on how to get rid of my nervous-ness??

Practice!
Start off with some close friends and expand your audience bit by bit.
I really hope you get your confidence to sing infront of people.
Good Luck, hun <3

I am a harpist and singer. I used to get really nervous infront of groups when I preformed. The only cure I found is practice. First start witha small group of family and friends. Then gradually move up. It does help to memorize anything that you are singing. Close your eyes before you are about to preform and imagine you are where you usually practice. Start to sing then open your eyes. Ignore the croud or group in front of you. Sing for yourself and put all your emotion and feelings into the song. You won't even realize it is over when it is. Stage fright is one of those things that make the preformance a thrill. It is as if electric is being pumped through you right before a concert. Hope you get rid of it because you should share your talent.

Start off singing in front of some friends... Then sing in front of others... The more you do it the less nervous you'll be. I also sing myself and i've sang in front of 1,000 people and I was fine. I'm really used to it now. So If you try singing in front of your friends first that should help you get rid of some nerves...

i suggest start singing in front of a bunch of your friends at one time. then after you can conquer that, start involving your family, neighbors, and people from school. once you are ready, then if your school has a talent show you can enter if you feel like u can do it. just start small and keep growing. some of the biggest stars started out with stage fright.

hope this helped. good luck =D

dont let the LIGHTS FADE OUT

well the first question is..Do you think your a good singer? because, in order to over come stage freight you need to convince yourself your good. Every morning when u wake up, look in the mirror and tell yourself your beautiful & your a good singer. Do it as many times a day possible, then soon you should be come comfortable with yourself.

hope i helped <33

kleokriesel answered Thursday March 10 2005, 1:11 pm:
You have to options:

1) Tell your friends to lay off. It's your decision, not theirs.

2) Sing in front of a couple of people. When you're not nervous anymore in front of them, sing in front of some more people. Just keep expanding your audience until you're not nervous at all.

oh my,just thinking about that Simon character would scare the hell out of me.Practice, practice, and more practice. In school,at home, wherever and when ever you get a chance to practice in front of a crowd. No doubt you will still be nervous at something like American Idol but it would help you prepare.Hope to see you on the tube someday!

Firefly answered Wednesday March 9 2005, 8:53 pm:
pick a song you can really get into and understand (for me, it's Defying Gravity from Wicked) and...well...just melt into it. Become art of the song and ignore the people around you. Let the music take you away.

That's what I try to do, anyway.

Sing in front of the mirror! Or sing with your eyes closed. Whatever you do, make sure you're comfortable. It's a state of mind.

Shorty8706 answered Wednesday March 9 2005, 6:13 pm:
Well, if your friends are telling you thatyou are a good singer, then they are good friends and that they wouldnt lie to you. What you need to do is just stand in front of the mirror and sing to yourself at first. If you cant do that, then close you eyes for the first few times, and then try to open them. Then try that in front of your famil, friends, etc. until you can feel comfortable singing in front of people. Remember, even the best of singers such as Usher still get nervous at times and they probably were nervous the first time they got up on stage. Sometimes they even close their eyes when they sing. Some people are nervous when they sing in front of a few people, but arent when they get in front of a lot of people on stage, and vice versa. Just try what I suggested and see if it works. Get back to me and tell me how it goes if you can. Shorty8706

oh dear god we are like sould mates.. Yea my county is having this sullivan county american idol thing and my friends and fmaily wanted to put me through it. But I didnt have the money really or else I would have done it.. at least i think. My idea for you is really just to think about what you are about to sing.. and take a deep breath. My guess is that you're prolly like me and are afraid of your own voice.. tel lme if im wrong.. but if you are.. then do what I do and just sing through it until oyu gte used to your voice through the first few notes and then It will be better through there! remember to breathe and think and GOOD LUCK :-D!!!

jcpennypanties answered Wednesday March 9 2005, 5:29 pm:
If you got a talent and you know it dont set around and wait for someone to push you to it. Get out there and try, what do you have to lose? And if getting nervous is one of the problems, work your way up to singing in front of people, try singing in front a few close friends until your comfortable, then let your boyfriend or someone that you really like let join the audience, then your mom and dad. People who will just listen to you sing your heart out, before you know it you'll conquer the nervousness. And if that dont work just picture all of them in their underwear (lime green) underwear ! Then maybe you can go for the big times.. like American Idol..who knows. I've never heard you but if you got it go for it.

LeftyViper02 answered Wednesday March 9 2005, 5:02 pm:
Just practice alot on your singing. Like that one commercial where there is this girl and she is really nervous and she brings her favorite teddy bear and when it is time to preform all she sees is her teddy bear in the audience. You could do something like that maybe with a guy or something.
plz rate high and leave feedback (like what your name is so i can watch you on American Idol and vote for you!!)
best of luck

Just practice singing in front of people alot - if your school has a talent show or something, do that! American Idol is huge and you want to be sure you can confidently sing in front of judges plus millions of people. Think about the consequence of breaking out of your shell ! People will see what a good voice you have so go for it and sing! In front of your friends, family, whoever will listen! :) ♥ rachel
