It was fine the first time but then today it really hurt so i tried a different position i did have one leg up and was standing but i find now it is MUCH more easier to insert it when i am sitting on the floor and legs open remember if it wont go in easily it doesnt go there wriggle it about a bit to find the opening do not force it! and make sure that if you want to change it it has been at least 4 hours or it will hurt, unless u r leaking then you may need to try a higher absorbancy but try first time with smallest u can find hope this helps! kittyluvr1826 answered Monday December 13 2004, 4:05 pm: did it hurt all the time or just when you pulled it out? because i know that the first few times i used one, it really hurt, but now i am fine. make sure you arent using one that is too big, and make sure you let it get full before you pull it out.

babydoll69 answered Saturday December 11 2004, 1:12 pm: theres an instruction leaflet that will tell you what to do lol, i doubt your doing it wrong thoe. You just really have to relax when you do it, i know its hard but do it slowly and start with a small one. it will hurt a bit but think about it, the hole is big enough to have a baby, so it will go up, like i sed - jst relax!!! xxxxx :-) [ babydoll69's advice column | Ask babydoll69 A Question ]

Shaylee answered Friday December 3 2004, 3:22 am: I used to have this same problem when I started
When you have inserted the tampon- you aren't supposed to feel it at all. Did it hurt when you pulled it out- like was it hard to pull out. This is because the level of absorbancy was to high. Switch to a lower one. Otherwise it will keep on hurting. This is because the tampons are designed to slip out when they are full. If they are not full well they don't want to come out and when you force them- it hurts.
Firstly look at the tampon when you pull it out- if it has any white spots on it you have a way to high absorbancy. Switch to a lower one- it will stop hurting [ Shaylee's advice column | Ask Shaylee A Question ]
superGiRL21 answered Thursday December 2 2004, 10:55 am: that depends-i swear it took me 4-5 tries to get a tampon in right but that's probably because i started using them really early. It hurt somewhat the first few times only cuz sticking a wad of cotton is bound to hurt. But it gets easier with more experience. if it continues to hurt really badly you should see a doctor about how to properly insert a tampon and use pads in the mean time [ superGiRL21's advice column | Ask superGiRL21 A Question ]

beauteful_withn answered Tuesday November 30 2004, 11:26 pm: hey hun, chances are you are doing it right- but it might be easier if you kind of lean back a little cuz of the way that your vag is shaped. i know that it might hurt but the cause of that is because the walls of your vag arnt use to being widened i guess you could say. if i were you, i would use the smallest kind, i think its called junior. that way it wount hurt as much. brown23 answered Tuesday November 30 2004, 6:14 pm: hey...
alright the same thing happenes to everyone.
its a good idea to read the directions. um aright ... you sit down and open your legs...then you hold the rimmed part of the tampon....you push it in at an angle kindof until your fingers touch your body.then you push the end piece of the tampon upwith the same hand or the other hand. the most important thing to remember is to relax. if you dont get it the first time, take it out and keep trying. good luck sweetie [ brown23's advice column | Ask brown23 A Question ]
BotheredAndBroken13 answered Tuesday November 30 2004, 3:51 pm: Sweetie, it will hurt the first few times you put it in. Your body isn't used to having something up there. Make sure that you're really relaxed and dont force it in, put it in gently. After a few times, you should be used to it. I swear by those things now! Good luck, and I hope I helped you. xo-Jor* [ BotheredAndBroken13's advice column | Ask BotheredAndBroken13 A Question ]
snowwalker69 answered Monday November 29 2004, 6:59 am: yeah, it hurt bad my first time as well. You might not be doing it wrong. Remember, you have to have it at a 45 degree angle, and you have to relax, or your muscles will tense up. Also, make sure you have the right tampon for your flow. Supers are huge, but regulars are small enough so there is no pain [ snowwalker69's advice column | Ask snowwalker69 A Question ]
dreamingkat answered Sunday November 28 2004, 10:44 pm: wow, some of the answers you've gotten are scary honey.
tampons should not hurt.
I know it may sound awkward, but the best thing for you to do is to get a trusted adult or older friend who's been using tampons for several years to help you.
If you don't have long/sharp finger nails, try inserting a finger. If that hurts, you should see a doctor. It's very seldom anything serious, but it's a good idea to see the doc anyway. Many women get yeast infections around their periods, and that might make your vagina sensitive enough for the tampon to be irritating.
Another benefit of inserting your finger is that you will know which way your vaginal canal tips. It seldom is perfectly straight.
Start out with the teenage size, as they are usually a little shorter than the regular ones. Also see if you can find one for "lighter days". There are tampons with and without applicators; some women find inserting a tampon easier with an applicator, others find it easier to insert without one. Try both. :) Also, I've seen a few brands with scented tampons. Avoid those, the perfume might be irritating you.
Tampons will be uncomfortable to remove if they are not completely full, however, they must be removed regularly. Check the box for how often.
If you frequently have visible pieces of uterine lining (most people call them "clots") in your pad or in the toilet, I would avoid using tampons. Most women I know who have really bad cramps avoid using tampons as well.
There is nothing wrong with using pads, and if your willing to spend a little money experimenting, there are internal menstrual cups that some people find to be easier than tampons. They are supposed to work much better than tampons if you shed your lining in chunks.
LiLmIsSmE answered Sunday November 28 2004, 10:23 pm: sorry hun but this is not uncommon, i remember the first times that i tried a tampon, the first time it wasn't hard at all but then i was thinking about it the second time i did it and i tried my hardest to think about it the way i did it the first time and it hurt! maybe try, if you haven't already try a tampax compax or some thing that has a plastic applicator. hope all goes well! >Rachel [ LiLmIsSmE's advice column | Ask LiLmIsSmE A Question ]

LocaBabii answered Sunday November 28 2004, 2:12 pm: Ok i know this may sound really stupid, but ask your mom to explain it to you. when i was about 11 i tried doing it by myself and i kept the cardboard on it and walked around like that all day. I finally told my mom it hurt and she explained to me what i did wrong. [ LocaBabii's advice column | Ask LocaBabii A Question ]
hailebop answered Sunday November 28 2004, 6:35 am: It shouldn't hurt when you have it inside you - you shouldn't be able to feel it at all. If you can, then you've put it in slightly wrong, and you'll need to try it again. If your talking about disccomfort when you insert it though, that's pretty normal - it shouldn't be actively painful, but it will feel weird and a little uncomfortable.
The most common problem is that you aren't relaxed enough when you try to insert it, so all your muscles tense up, making it many times harder and more painful to put in. I know it's very hard to relax when it's going wrong, but that's what you have to do: if you feel yourself tensing up, take a few deep breathes and try to relax all your muscles. If it's not working for you, give up and try again in a few hours when you won't be so stressed and tense. [ hailebop's advice column | Ask hailebop A Question ]
xokaylanicoleox answered Sunday November 28 2004, 12:37 am: It will hurt the first few times because you aren't used to it. It will be ok, if it wasn't right you would know it. I'm sure you did it right, it's just that you aren't used to it. -Kayla [ xokaylanicoleox's advice column | Ask xokaylanicoleox A Question ]
zapreth answered Sunday November 28 2004, 12:36 am: It could also be that you're trying to use the wrong size. They make them real slim these days. Try a smaller one. It can also mean that you have a bit of irritaion down there too. A&D ointment, you get this in the baby care section, works great for that kind of thing. Don't worry too much, everyone has a first time tp horror story. [ zapreth's advice column | Ask zapreth A Question ]
theblondeone989 answered Sunday November 28 2004, 12:33 am: No, it isn't supposed to hurt...and if it does, then you're doing something wrong =) As far as I know, they all come with little brochures as to how to use them. Look at that...it may take a little while to get used to! [ theblondeone989's advice column | Ask theblondeone989 A Question ]
