about

Hi, I'm just really out in life to have some fun, trying to keep homework, my life, my friends, my pets and school under control. I wouldn't call me the average teenager because I am quite different with my personal circumstances. But I can honestly say I wouldn't have it any other way (well maybe some changes). I have learnt good and bad things the hard way and watched friends get hurt- I haven't been through it all but I'm working on it. Help you? I'm not sure but lets see how well this advice column goes. Ask Shaylee :)

advice

Ever since I started taking taekwondo, my back has been hurting a lot. I'm only 15/f and I don't want a bad back at this young of an age and I don't want a bad back when I am older. And I would never quit taking taekwondo, I love it so much and I am trying to get my black belt. Any advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance.

Okay well the general rule between usual pain and pain you should be worried about.

Usually you wait at least a week afterwards to see if its still hurting, because it could be just your muscles growing as you are doing more exercise. Feel the pain (haha no) what I mean is that you should try to feel what type of pain it is, if thats possible. Then kind of try and figure out what area its coming from. It could be just stiffness, or new grouwth. Or it could be a torn muscle or tissue. Which isn't good Or it could be your bones- which is bad news.

So wait a while at least a week and if it still hurts I would recommend you firstly talking to your instructor they will probabley recommend something as they know bodies and the injuries pretty well. Then going to a doctor or specilist, if you think its muscle- go to the phsyio if its bone then chiropracter. There is a subtle difference in the pain.

Don't quit taekwondo unless you really have to, seriously there is nothing like regret ages afterward that you will feel if you quit in the middle and you didn't need to.

Will a yeast infection go away on its own or what can you do to get rid of it?

The best thing to do would be to pop down to your pharmacist and ask them for some antibiotics. Its best to get some help on this one, rather then trying to solve it yourself. If you are shy you could ask a friend or parent to get it for you

Im already having problems with my life right now but this just makes it worst!
Everyone has a girl in their school who is pretty, smart, friendly, flirty, somewhat popular.
My problem that I need advice on is how do I become that girl?
This girl, her names megan, shes short, blonde hair, pretty, smart, friendly, sorta popular, has an annoying voice sometimes, really flirty, talks about sex` bi (likes chicks n guys) a stoner but you cant tell.
She can become friends with anyone and they love her, she can start a conversation with anyone adn they talk back
Im not jealous of her bc she told me Im pretty too but I just cant be like her, I wanna find a way to be like her and I need real advice -not just talk more or flirt more- but real advice
So if anyone can help me out Id love that so please help me out Im stuck with this girl till Im outta school so I really need this advice
Please and Thank you

Its not really a person, its not like people are born perfect. its all confidence. If you have confidence in your own skills they suddenly become the best things ever to have. How you carry yourself how you look at life sends out a positive glow, people like others like that. So basically (wait for it) got to be happy with who you are. You too have abilities its not like you completly suck at everything, that special thing which you're good at will help.
Don't wish you were someone else, make your own skills lovable- show them to others. Be nice to everyone.
See your flaw in all of this is that you think they only love her because she is perfect. People don't like perfect people they're damn right annoying, but what they do like is people. You put in this very question that she isn't perfect- a stoner isn't a very cool thing to be not so perfect. You can get people to like you, just make sure that you still are you at the end of it all. Keep your own self in it at the end. Don't go turning into something else.
So basically don't copy her talents- enhance your own. Be original and people will love that. What she has is confidence to talk to people and a nice outlook on life. That isn't to hard to obtain- mainly just practise. Good luck with it, you are nearly there anyway, just need that confidence to be yourself.

is it true that after 16 a girl stops growing?? if this is not true then what age it is?

I have a friend who had the smallest boobs and got paid out about it all the time when she was 16. She would cry her eyes out all the time. But then when she hit 17 she suddenly filled out- the boys were so surprised. So really it depends on the person, it varies.

If I walked on the tredmill for an hour every morning, didn't eat as much and ate healthy, and did crunches and excercises, do you think I would get skinnier within a month? Thanks.

If you eat healthier and a bit less and exercised more then yes you will lose weight. How much would depend on your current situation of course before you start the program. It depends on a number of things but basically exercise more eat healthy and you're home free. If you didn't do that before then you will lose weight, but don't expect miracles at first take it slowly.

I don't know why but it seems like everytime I am at my dads he drinks. And when we are at some family get together my step-mom and my dad both drink and get "tipsy". I hate it when they do this and it pisses me off. I hate it. I tell them that it is stupid for them to do this but they never listen and it makes me frustrated and they act like idiots and it embarrases me to even think that I am related to him and her. It is so embarrasing sometimes, I feel like i am about to cry. What can I do to help me persuade them to stop drinking so much and just have a good time with out the liquor? I would really like to get some advice.

Well if they won't listen to you then talking to them won't do anything to them. However sometimes actions speak louder then words. Every time they start drinking- just leave the room do something else, get out of the house if you need to. When they talk to you when they are drinking roll your eyes like "omg" kind of at school. You know how bad it feels when a bitch at school gives you that "loser" act. It hurts and gets through a lot- do that to ur folks, you might get paid out about it but if it makes them sit up and listen then its worth a shot- so give them the "omg that is so not cool" kind of act- it MIGHT make them think about what they are doing.

If that doesn't work- then just try to get out when they are getting tipsy. Sure its annoying but its better to get away from them then have to endure their company. Good luck with it

My friend and i are both in theater arts, and she got the role i wanted, and i tried not to be jealous of her, but i am. i know she's really good, and deserves the part, but i get mad at her whenever she brings it up, because shes almost bragging. I just really wanted the part, and now she thinks im mad at her, and i guess i kinda am. wat can i do?

Tell her how you feel- that way she should shut up. I used to feel the same way about this dance class, I didn't get the place I wanted but my friend got it, I was so disappointed and hated her when she brought it up. Even now a year after it happened its still a touchy subject. She just doesn't talk about it and we get over it. Just tell her how you feel and she will get the message. Shes' not trying to spite you shes just happy about getting the part and its forming probabley a big part in her life at the moment. But you just can't do anything about that except tell her to shut up. If you can't do that, give her some subtle hints that you don't want to talk about it. If she brings it up- change the subject.
It'd be easier just to tell her to stop it- and she will, she will think about your feeligns and stop talking about it. Soon it will be a distant memory and you will have lots of other parts you can have, but in the meantime keep your mind on other things- other things you could achieve with your spare time

Back in August I missed the registration date to go back to school. (I should be a junior in high school.) I was pretty much just having a bad year and didn't care about going back so I've been out of school all this year. I was wondering if I could go back now or if I would have to wait until next year to go back. I could make up the work that I've missed instead of just waiting until next year and being a whole year behind.

Home schooling might be a great way to do it as you can work as hard and pace yourself as you like. This might be a really good option for you.
However another way would be to talk to your school about it, they might let you just join in the class without a bother to it, they might mind. Its really up to them, I know a friend of mine went on an exchange for half a year and the school didn't mind that she had missed half a year of work- as long as she was willing to work hard and catch up. This isn't standard procedure because most people would just have enrolled before hand- so we can't tell you what the school will say. So bascially just turn up- or get your parents to make a call to the school and see what can be done. You might feel uncomfortable as you haven't learnt anything so do it at home but then again it would be nice to see your friends again. Get your parents to ring up the school and you can have a talk with them. Most likely you can just join a class as long as you work hard- keep up your education at all costs, it truly will get you places.

hey guys,

does birth control really make your boobs bigger?

thanxx :)

Ignore those two, the thing is with birth control your body thinks that you are pregnant as it goes into a state of pregnacy the body prepares for the "baby", for some people it means nothing at all- for others it means some things that happen when you get pregnant eg. nausea and boobs bigger. So it depends on the person really- and probabley what combination you are on.

Most annoying if you really need the pill for period pain or anemia.

However usually these side affects will disappear within two months as the body gets used to it- sorry.

So don't look at birth control as a way to enlargen your boobs- because in the remote chance it did happen, it wouldn't last very long and is an awfully long way to go to get bigger boobs.

I'm 6'11" 430lbs Male. I need a plan for weight loss, and i need to lose it soon. My doctor has suggested surgery, and i do not want to go there until i absoulty have to. It is literally killing me. Please give me some low cost solutions on losing weight. Thanks.

This is a tricky one as you aren't supposed to lose that much weight so fast, start by taking it slowly, change your diet straight away to involve very little fat lots of veggies, fruits and lots of water- no fast food or anything.
Then for exercise, depending on how fit you are (yes you can be fit and fat) will depend on how much you can take. I suggest a minimum of 30 minutes aroebic exercise every day. If you were fit this could include a few kilometers run, but if not it could simply mean a walk around the block. You can make this fun by taking a friend along for company- or instead of doing it the boring way incorporate it into your routine- walk a dog, organise something which includes a bit of running around. Not sitting down or anything. Then as your endurance builds up you can up the workouts.
Don't jump into anything, don't decide to give up Krispy Kremes if they are you all time favourite food in the world. The idea is moderation and every day you succeed give yourself a little treat. Not a full mud cake but a little chocolate bar or something.
This is very simple advice but if you follow it you will get results I assure you, however I think it would be advicable to follow the doctors advice if the situation worsens in any way.

okay so im a 16 year old girl who likes a 14 year old boy, I honestly dont care what people think about it, but thats not myproblem. my problem is, i like him a lot, and hes a really friendly guy and i met him not too long ago so yeah but i cant tell if theres anything there yet, like, im friends with his sister, and ill call for his sister to talk to her, and the guy i like will pick up and talk to me too...and i asked his sister if he always does that, as in pick up the phone and talk to her friends at the same time she is, and she said, hes NEVER done that before, so i thought that was really cool, and so yeah, i went to a party at his house yesterday a christmas party and everyyyyone was there, which was a lot of fun, so we were hanging out, and i told his sister that i was gonna put my jacket in her room, so i ran upstairs and 10 girls followed me, and it was really crowded up stairs like REALLY crowded, and then adults came up too so i was like stuck, and my someone opens the guy that i likes door, and he kinda looks out and sees me and then the door closed, you hear him run and open the door and he goes "JENN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and i was like HEYYY! and then we chilled for the ENTIRE night, we were up in his room just laughing at everything possible he was shooting his air soft gun at kids that botherd him we were just being dumb lol, then we went up to his attic thing where he has this HUGE car racing thing set up and everyone was up there, and me and him were talking and he kept on looking at me, a lot, he was just looking at me and stuff, and yeah, so thats how it was the whole night, and then at the very end we were on his trampoline and i had to go so i jumped off cuz he was talking to everyone, and he goes "JENN!" and jumps off and hugs me and then he was like "ill probably see you in a year" and im like " DUDE...SLEEPOVER REMEMBER?!" and he was like OH YEAH! and so yeah, cuz were ALL having a sleep over like 30538304 of us together so itll be a lot of fun but what my question is, is do you think there is ANYTHING there?? because i mean i know you guys dont know him or me, but hes 14 and im 16. I really like him and all and hes just a REALLY nice guy, so i dontknow if hes just REALLY nice and always happy to see me and talk to me on the phone or if he has a lil sumthin for me....oh, and he broke up with his gf 2 weeks ago and he said that he found out that 20 girls like him at his school and i was like "well are you gonna ask one of em out" and he was like " I dont kno, theres this one that i might but i dont know what the concept of it is, like i dont get it* and im like * well...if you want her to be your GF then you ask her to be your gf...if you want her to just go out on a date with you, then you just go out on a date* and he was like * I dont know, they all want me to be their bf* and i was like * well do what you wanna do :) its up to you* and he was liek * yeahh* and so yeah, he still hasnt asked her out or anything so HELP ME PLEASEEE I dont know what i should do, i really like him

Is there something there? Thats a hard one, we have to leave that one up to you because only you will know if you like him. People surrounding you guys already think there's something up obviously because of all the looks you were getting and from it all it sounds like he likes you as well. So go for it if you like him. It will be tonnes of fun. Talk to him about it and see what he thinks, if you don't want to be that direct then just flirt with him and lead him to make a move. It couldn't hurt could it. If he still doesn't get it after all that just get a bit touchy and that should get the message across.
But be careful, although you say that you don't care what other people think, if we are all truthful we do care a bit and have feelings that can be hurt. Be braced for some critiscism because I know at my school that would definately be looked down on- so just be careful

At night when I'm in bed, my jaw always clinches. It gets so bad to wear it even starts hurting and I can't help doing it. I've tried putting my tongue in between my teeth but I just end up biting my tongue.

It also happens during the day. But I just make sure I always have gum with me because it keeps my jaw from clinching.

Does anyone know of anything I could try that would help? Or should I go to my dentist?

Jaw clenching, if not fixed, leads to TMJ. This is very bad as it damages A LOT of things in the mouth which I say YOU DON'T WANT DAMAGED such as teeth among other things.

Jaw clenching is caused by stress, there are so many different types of stress. It is true but what you may not see is that there are many many types of stress and it could be anyone of them. But of course one way to try and lessen the situation is by unstressing your life some more by dealing with it in the day time with exercise, or calm mediating. There are many manywa ways to fight stress- one of them jaw clenching... not good.

What we must also realise is that everyon clenches their mouth to an extent, not all of us have major problems but we all clench it in small amounts so don't feel left out on a limb- we all do it.

The best thing for you to do at the moment is see your doctor and see what they say. In the meantime it would be good to wear a mouth guard. Just to protect your teeth, and for your earlier question yes among its many many uses mouth guards are used to stop grinding. But wait- it has multiple purposes. I know it will be uncomfortalbe as I have to wear one for waterpolo but trust me your teeth are one of your most important assets- look after them.

i am a 13 year old girl with a lot of friends. boys and girls. but mostly boys. im a girly girl though not a tomboy or anything. when i am with my guy friends i am totally normal and myself.the only problem is that whenever i am going out with a guy, i get nervous. i dont really act myself around him. do you know anything to help me over come this problem?

Don't treat them any different from your guy friends, if you do that then it will end up a whole lot better in the long run. You won't be nervous and you will get to know him a lot better. Also wouldn't you prefer to be friends before you were dating them? Wouldn't that make you closer to each other? It makes it better if you do get to know each other as friends first. So treat your date like that, don't check him out every second look to have fun to tease each other make them look for fun. Stuff like that, then you can BOTH relax (yes he probabley feels the same way) and enjoy each other's company. That's really all I can tell you.
Treat him as a friend and you'll have more fun and no shy issue- plus gotta make your guy friends proud- they wouldn't like to think you went all girly because of a guy!! sheesh

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my boyfriend lately. I've been with him almost 6 years and we have 1 child together, our 1 year old son. My boyfriend is usually an all around nice guy who is family oriented and fun to be with. He is a dedicated worker and family man. But lately he seems self-destructive. Keep in mind he works two jobs so he is working 17 hours 5 days a week which he's been doing over a year now. He gets NO sleep, maybe 2 hours a night. That could be what's getting to him. But he is unwilling to make a change. I told him he either needs depression medication or a job change or both. So he's been extremely mean to me lately, turning everything I say upside down and picking fights with me in front of our son. He seems to not be caring about anything and he's so cold and hard inside. I prefer not to say exactly what, but he's been getting into something substance related, he's having like a relapse of our old party days or something, he's got the wrong friends. He actually took something out in front of our child and I had to pull him from his high chair and take him in the other room. He's like, "what, he doesn't know what's going on." and I'm like, "it' doesn't matter it's the act." Also, he smokes cigarettes and I hate cigarettes and we have an agreement not to smoke in the house. But he's been smoking in here anyway after I go to bed. I don't believe me and my child should have to suffer for his bad habit, he should take it outside. He knows my wishes but goes behind my back anyways. He would normally never do this. I'm not a mean girlfriend, just a good mother. So this is totally not normally him and I don't understand what is happening here. All he does is bitch about life and say how he's going to die early and stuff and I'm so sick of it now. He never wants to do anything anymore with us as family. I don't want our son growing up in this environment, but also, I really love and care about my boyfriend and know that something deep inside him is really wrong and I would hate to turn my back on him, but am tempted to kick him the fuck out, he's really pressing my buttons, it's like he's seeing how far I will go with this. Also, our sex life is nothing to complain about, just so you know. Is this something we may be able to get passed or is this an ending he has created and he's going to lose everything that's good in his life? I know it's up to him to make a change, but how much should I take? Once it's over with us, that's it, it's over, that's why I am putting off the end until whatever sets me off, sets me off. Please help.

Sounds like everything jsut seems to be building up on him and he's dealing with it he best he can. Like said somewhere below he really needs to go and take a holiday- a break from real life to relax and forget his problems for a while. He's really stressed so its nothing you have done but a combination of things. Stress is your killer. Get him to talk some more and find ways of releasing his stress there are a number of ways but the best would be a holiday an escape from life. Just be careful that if he keeps acting like this he might start getting depression which isn't any good at all. Just make him talk to you about his problems, try to help him with stress and make him take a break from it all jsut for a few days. With any luck he will come back rejuenevaed and the same old man ready to deal with life with a fresh outlook

By friend at school got a boyfriend and after she got him I just started flirting with him over and over and I dont even like him not like that or anything just as a friend and my other friend lets me I really dont understand

Just stop it right there, not because its wrong but because he and your friend and others will probabley get the wrong message. Just be there stay off her turf, I'm sure she understands but honestly I'd prefer it if my friends wouldn't flirt with my boyfriend- and hopefully he'd think the same (or I'd kill him aww not). Flirting is a lot of fun and a way of showing an interest in someone usually. I know because I do it a lot that I could just be talking to him just in a friendly way and do it, but I don't because it would hurt people to do so.
Flirting is tonnes of fun, its the best conversations ever but you must be careful of who you do it with so you don't step on toes or hurt people's feelings. You probabley just do it becaise its fun- IT IS FUN, but you can't do it, so just stop yourself before you start. It will turn out a whole lot better in the long run.

ok well i'm 15/f/ i'm dating this guy named Jesse and yesturday we were hanging out together and some chick named Stephanie text him saying I LOve you 2! and well i read it and i asked him what was that all about he tells me that this girl has a crush on him and thinks that he will go out wiht me and with her at the same time and well he told her that he would never cheeat on his girlfriend......what you all think? PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE I"M CONFUSED

Ummm thats nice of him

Don't worry darling... ILL JUST GO OUT WITH YOU BOTH!!

We call those guys assholes, they aren't worth any of our time. Tell him that going out with two girls at a time is cheating so if he doesn't understand that then maybe you should enlighten me.
Of course you don't understand, its because he's stupid, I can't believe he's not thinking about what he is doing so maybe you should ask him that, and that you don't want him to go out with this chick Stephanie. What makes it sus is the fact that she replied "i love you 2" instead of "i love you". It makes it sound as if your boy had something to do with it before you learnt about it.
Have a good strong talk about it and frankly if he still goes on, then just dump him. He can't have two girls and on no account can he cheat on you. He says he won't... but he is willing to go out with her... yessssss that makes loads of sense.
Don't worry its him thats screwed not you

umm after im finished playin basketball or volleyball, im usually sweating a lot. my face also is very red after practice. is there any way that i can keep my face from being so red? o ya and im 13/f.

Sadly no :(

I have the exact same problem except my face fully goes as red as a tomato so much that people think I'm dying or something- not good.

On the other side you will know you have no toxins in your blood or clogged up as they have had nice blood pumping through them ... *sigh, it was worth a shot.

Well the only thing I can tell you is that its good for you, keeps that circulation going around your body- which in turn keeps those body parts alive. Take a shower and relax a bit, usually that tones down the redness a bit and make sure you cool down afterwards. Take time to get changed before you go out to the public- when you cool down it will go away, so take your time in cooling down- then by the time you get out hopefully you will just have a nice healthy glow on your cheeks.

me and my boyfriend have been together for quite some time ((3 months)) and we have known each other since he was 15! he is 19 now & im 15... my parents think he is 16 and i hate lying to them but i love him and i want to be with him... how bad does this make me??

VERY BAD YOU SHALL ROT IN HELL

Okay I'm sure you won't rot in hell its just at tihs moment four years is a pretty big age gap, dont you think, but say in a few years people will consider it normal. Say my dad is nine years older then my mum, no-one cares. Maybe break it to them slowly or wait a while until they trust him more- then break it to them. Prove that he's trusthworthy and safe before you tell them

13/f. I have this friend. We've been friends for two years already. Well, he's nice a lot. We make jokes and all. But other times he makes me upset. He talks badly about my friends. He also always comments on my profile on AIM. He tells me somehow how I'm wrong in what I put, or how it's dumb. He promises time and time again to keep my crushes a secret, but tells them anyway. Half of our grade finds out and soon enough I'm a laughing stock. I no longer tell him but sometimes when he's nice I do it anyway. In person he's got a really great personality. We used to date in 6th grade and he was the sweetest guy. When we broke up he talked about all the things I didn't do perfectly when we were going out. He makes me upset basically just online. So what do I do?

Okay this is your friend who hurts you, makes fun of you, tells your secrets, insults people you like and care about, makes you feel bad and makes it all better with his charming personality.

Wow sounds great don't it

Now someone once told me this, if someone has the power to make you feel bad and uses it- then they really aren't worth hanging out with. That's rght anyone that makes you feel bad don't hang around them.

Also secrets are secrets for a reason to be kept that way. But then he lies continously about it by blowing it off to everyone, he's making everything about you seem pretty sucky and making you feel upset because he just made your life realy bad.

So why are you talking to him, honesly find someone else to talk to- someone you can trust who isn't a compete asshole. He's just using you and you're better then that, block n remove him from your list- you have better things to do then speak with an asshole
