Question Posted Saturday December 18 2004, 11:30 pm

I don't know why but it seems like everytime I am at my dads he drinks. And when we are at some family get together my step-mom and my dad both drink and get "tipsy". I hate it when they do this and it pisses me off. I hate it. I tell them that it is stupid for them to do this but they never listen and it makes me frustrated and they act like idiots and it embarrases me to even think that I am related to him and her. It is so embarrasing sometimes, I feel like i am about to cry. What can I do to help me persuade them to stop drinking so much and just have a good time with out the liquor? I would really like to get some advice.

its kinda hard to convince adults...but you could try to show them that they can have fun without. and just try to talk to them about it, like how you feel and wat it could do to them or how stupid they look. hope i helped

Show them the damage they are doing to themselves and everyone around them. Drinking can cause serious brain problems, and more. You are at high risks of so much when you drink a lot. Find some things they can go to to help themselves. Maybe they could go to a clinic or something. Also, show your mom what he is doing, and just bring it to her attention the problems going on in his household. Hope I helped.

I'm sorry. Tell them how much it hurts you and embarrasses and ask them if they please cut down on the drinking. If they don't listen, maybe talk to your mom about it. Well good luck!
Hope I helped!

Try to explain to them that you want them to stop because you care for them. Maybe find a way to video tape them and then show them it so they can realize how stupid they look. But if you can't get through to them, don't stress yourself out. Adults are stubborn. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. I know it sucks but they are gonna do what they want. Hopefully, once you talk to them they will want to stop drinking.

Well if they won't listen to you then talking to them won't do anything to them. However sometimes actions speak louder then words. Every time they start drinking- just leave the room do something else, get out of the house if you need to. When they talk to you when they are drinking roll your eyes like "omg" kind of at school. You know how bad it feels when a bitch at school gives you that "loser" act. It hurts and gets through a lot- do that to ur folks, you might get paid out about it but if it makes them sit up and listen then its worth a shot- so give them the "omg that is so not cool" kind of act- it MIGHT make them think about what they are doing.

If that doesn't work- then just try to get out when they are getting tipsy. Sure its annoying but its better to get away from them then have to endure their company. Good luck with it

Well I know how you feel my Father also drinks alot. There's not so much you can do with People who usually drink alot. Maybe try being calm with them and tell them that they are making you stress and be upset about what they do. If they have really bad drinking problems maybe you should talk to another family member about the problem and see if they can help solve the situation with you bye sitting down with them both and telling them how you feel and what there doing is bad. Not listening always makes matters worse. I hope the best for you.

Adults will drink. It is there choice as adults to do so and to be quite honest, it isn't your place at all to tell them what they should or shouldn't do. As long as they aren't doing irresponsible things while under the influence, then there is nothing for you to worry about.
