Ever since I started taking taekwondo, my back has been hurting a lot. I'm only 15/f and I don't want a bad back at this young of an age and I don't want a bad back when I am older. And I would never quit taking taekwondo, I love it so much and I am trying to get my black belt. Any advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance.
Shaylee answered Monday December 20 2004, 2:27 am: Okay well the general rule between usual pain and pain you should be worried about.
Usually you wait at least a week afterwards to see if its still hurting, because it could be just your muscles growing as you are doing more exercise. Feel the pain (haha no) what I mean is that you should try to feel what type of pain it is, if thats possible. Then kind of try and figure out what area its coming from. It could be just stiffness, or new grouwth. Or it could be a torn muscle or tissue. Which isn't good Or it could be your bones- which is bad news.
So wait a while at least a week and if it still hurts I would recommend you firstly talking to your instructor they will probabley recommend something as they know bodies and the injuries pretty well. Then going to a doctor or specilist, if you think its muscle- go to the phsyio if its bone then chiropracter. There is a subtle difference in the pain.
Don't quit taekwondo unless you really have to, seriously there is nothing like regret ages afterward that you will feel if you quit in the middle and you didn't need to. [ Shaylee's advice column | Ask Shaylee A Question ]

If you haven't, its probably just muscle soreness from stretching muscles you don't use all the time more than usual. I hope I helped! zapreth answered Monday December 20 2004, 12:11 am: Chiropractor! At your age it is very important to see if you have scoliosis, a genetic poor curvature of the spine. It causes all kinds of trouble with how your back muscles react to stress and new exercise. In later life it can make your life a living hell. (Personal experience talking here.) Get it checked out. It can be effectively treated at your age without major surgery. Even if it is not scoliosis, a chiropractor can help keep you in your best condition. I started going to one year before last, and I don't know how I survived this long wihtout one! Luck and kick ass, Sweetie! [ zapreth's advice column | Ask zapreth A Question ]
