I've been sexually active for about 6 monthes or so now, and I'm going to the gynocologist sometime this week. Will she be able to tell that I'm not a virgin? I'm only 16. Oh, and if she can find out, are they supposed to tell your parents? PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!
selectopaque answered Thursday July 29 2004, 4:05 pm: Even if your gynocologist can't tell if your sexually active, then I would definately tell him/her. Like everyone else has already said, he/she has a legal obligation to keep everything confidential. But you need to be completely honest with your doctor so they can treat you the best possible way. If you've had unprotected sex, drink, smoke, or anything like that, then don't be afraid or ashamed to tell your doctor. He wont make you feel guilty, he will only help you to make the best decisions with your body. [ selectopaque's advice column | Ask selectopaque A Question ]
FernGully answered Tuesday July 27 2004, 4:29 am: A gynocologists job is to know exactly whats going on, and so yes, there is an almost 99% probability that they are going to know that you are sexually active. They aren't going to make you feel guilty about it though, however, they will probably encourage you to talk to your mother about it and will ask you seemingly uncomfortable questions.
They will probably encourage you to talk to your parents about it, but they are not legally allowed to disclose anything to your parents. Not a word without your consent. [ FernGully's advice column | Ask FernGully A Question ]
blackmamba answered Tuesday July 27 2004, 2:39 am: yes she will be able to tell if you arent a virgin. they dont have to tell your parents, but i think if they ask, the doctor has to tell them because you are a minor, but you'll have to check with your doctor. ShudaBeenAbLonde answered Monday July 26 2004, 10:55 pm: She might check .. but I doubt that she'll tell your parents. I Mean, she'll probably ask you if you are a virgin and ask if you want your parents to know .. but they have to keep those things secret. kevin1986 answered Monday July 26 2004, 10:26 pm: She'll know. But by law she is not allowed to disclose this to anyone else. You are protected because a doctor is not legally allowed to disclose a patient's information to anyone else. If she does, you can sue and would win. ShOrTnSwEeT42094 answered Monday July 26 2004, 9:52 pm: Yes,a gyno will be able to tell if you are sexually active.Typically they can't tell your parents or anyone else due to patient/doctor confidentiality laws. But it's always a good idea to have a close and open relationship with your parents(especially mom in this case).Mom may be able to answer some questions you may have, and help you to know what to expect!! xOaminemOx answered Monday July 26 2004, 8:45 pm: Do not listen to what the majority of these people are telling you on here. Listen to me. I will NOT misguide you in any way.
The doctor will not know for sure that you have lost your virginity, because your hymen can be broken just by simply riding a bicycle. And actually, some girls are born without a hymen.
Also, dont worry about them telling your parents. They can't do that, it's against the law. Trust me on that.
Don't be scared, everything will go just fine!!

A gynecologists job is to look at ur insides and test you for diseases mainly STD's so yes she knows your sexually active-and im sure that they have a confidentiality agreement which means that she cant tell your parents nor anyone your business... Siren_Cytherea answered Monday July 26 2004, 5:30 pm: They can tell. I think you can beg them not to tell your parents, but they're legally supposed to if your parents ask. I THINK. Don't hold me to it - This is what my friend told me when I was panicking about the same problem.
Good luck, and I hope everything goes okay.

crystal200022us answered Monday July 26 2004, 4:22 pm: Well, yes, a gynocologist will be able to tell that you are not a virgin. If you don't want your parents to know then you can tell you gyno that you want the whole thing confidential and by law they have to do that so you have nothing to worry but I wouldn't have your parents in the room while you're going through your exam. I hope this helps and good luck.

Derfel answered Monday July 26 2004, 4:09 pm: Hi darling
The answer to your first question is YES a gynaecologist will be able to tell you are sexually active by a vaginal examination. With regard to your second point: don't worry of course they not going to tell your parents anything. You are entitled to confidential medical treatment and that's what you'll get.

hErEtoheLp answered Monday July 26 2004, 4:08 pm: Alright, the doctor's definatly going to know, but from experience, they have NO right to tell your parents your personal information. The only way they can tell them is if you sign off on somethign saying they can. Also, they won't tell your parent's unless they directly ask for that information. But it's your desision to sign off whether or not they can give out that information. I hope you're not going there for them to see if you've had sex, you will defiantly have some trouble if thats the case. But if it's for anything else I woulnd't worry too much, yes, the doctor will know, but they have no right to give out that information. I know it sounds funny being as though you're not 18 and your parents have the right over you, but I guess that's just how it is perhaps? Hope you don't get caught love, good luck! Hello180 answered Monday July 26 2004, 4:04 pm: she'll be able to tell your parents if your cherries popped, but I doubt she will unless your parents just straight out ask. Also theres other ways your cherry can pop besides sex, or so I've heard. If the doctor says anything just ask him/her to please not tell your parents. jbdreamer answered Monday July 26 2004, 4:02 pm: There is a good chance she will know. She is going to ask you anyways, so you might as well tell your doctor the truth. Everything you tell her should remain confidental, so she shouldn't be telling your parents. [ jbdreamer's advice column | Ask jbdreamer A Question ]
