"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations

I heard that abercrombie is coming out with their fifth store... but what are the other four? i know abercrombie, hollister, i guess a&f, and...?

Okay well i heard of these people only excercising and hour a day but losing weight eating cereal, fruit, and orange juice for beakfast, then for a snack like yogurt, then lunch like a healthy sandwich, then a snack in the afternoon like peanuts, and low fat chees or something n crackers, and then for dinner some steamed chicken....but only an hour of excercise wont cover that...
Yes, it's called eating healthy foods and exercising moderately.
when are the hollister jeans with the beads and glitter on the pockets coming back?
also the jean skirts with the same thing.
thanks
Check HollisterCo.com
But I doubt you'll see them someplace besides the back of someone's closet unless the fashion industry decides to tell us that they're the "in" style again.
I ususally hate these kinds of questions, but this has been bugging the crud out of me lately! Does anyone remember a music video in ...the 90's maybe...or early 2000-2001 where it was a summer house party and there were a lot of people (older teenagers there) and they were by a pool. The main band member was going after this girl through the house that party was taking place. I remember it was a band like, blink 182 or good charlotte ...i'm not sure if it was one of them. The lead singer was blonde if that helps?
thanks!
Was it "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World?

Can I mix gel and cream into my hair? Cuz I have poofy hair so I need to put Anti Poof creme+gel plus my hair is curly and I want it straight and the straightner doesn't do well so I'll put Dove Straight and Long cream into it.
Sure, that's fine, as long as it isn't turning your hair into a greasy, weighed-down mess. I mix products all the time.
:)
what's body butter? lotion? can you put it on your face?
Body butter is typically a thicker, richer lotion than you'd normally get. It also usually comes in a tub, as opposed to a pump or squeeze bottle.
I wouldn't recommend putting it on your face since it could easily make you break out, or just too greasy/shiny. Instead, get a moisturizer designed for your face.
Sooo can any one explain to me exactly WHY Britney Spears shaved her head?
Thanks
The little people told her to.
More likely just a publicity stunt:

ok so i accedentally (sp?) ERASED my whole music library, and itunes library, but i still have all the music (like 4000 songs) on my ipod! so how do i get my music from the ipod backinto the itunes library AND back to my music folder? (i'd try experimenting to find my way, but its too risky, what if it somehow gets deleted frm my ipod too, then i've lost all my music, and i'd have to download 4000 songs all over again, probably forgetting my favorite ones) so any help?
Hope you don't mind, I'm copying this answer from a question I answered a few months ago :)
Easy! (well, I think so anyways)
What you have to do is re-install iTunes. Uninstall it first. That way, your iPod won't be recognized as synched with your library, which you deleted, so it won't update like it used to. Make sense?
So, once you plug in your iPod, it'll come up with a dialogue that'll say something like, "This iPod is synched with another computer's library" and click no, you do not want to update using THIS computer.
So now you're gonna go to My Computer. Under the "Tools" menu, go to "Folder Options..." and click the "View" tab. Click "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then click ok. Now, your iPod should show up (it'll be faded out though)
Now, you're gonna click on the iPod icon that showed up, and go to iPod_control. There's a "music" folder with 6 folders named F00, F01, etc. Make a folder (either on your desktop or My Music, wherever you keep your music files). Open each folder (the F00 ones), click on a file ( they'll have names like HFJR, but that's okay), and hit CRTL+A (to select all) then CTRL+C (to copy) Then, open the new folder you just created & paste(CTRL+V). Repeat for all six folders.
Then, open iTunes and click File->Add Folder to Library->[folder name you created] and click OK.
& all your songs should be there!

You know in brand clothing stores like Garage, etc? When a top is marked 5$ is it EXACTLY 5 bucks or is there tax? if so then how much would it cost?
Clothes aren't taxed for me (Massachusetts) but it varies by state. Your best best is to ask a salesperson if the marked prices include sales tax.

ok so theres this guy, ive only talked to him for like 5 minutes online. but i wanna like get to know him more, but im so shy and i want him to like start the conversation, i dont want him to feel like im bugging him or being needy or anything. i dont see him in school, i go to all girls he goes to all boys. and ive only talked to him once it's not like we can hang out right now. any tips? pleaseeee im desperate !!
Talk to him more online. Make an attempt to see him in school. Whenever you DO talk to him (getting his number is a good idea), find out what kind of movies or music he's into.
I don't know if your aspiring for friendship or romance, but either way, be yourself. Nobody likes fake people.
i have a few questions about food and eating if im trying to loose weigh. ( i do run daily, 15 minutes about & am in cheerleading and volleyball)
i eat penut butter sandwitches but i heard penut butter has alot of calories. is it okay to eat or should i cut down?
also what is a good breakfast cereal (i eat cereal all the time, i love it), nothing like special K or something designed for weight loose, but a healthy cereal that still tastes good?
Peanut butter has 190 calories per two tablespoons. Measure it out. Chances are, you're using about half that to make your average sandwich.
That's less than 100 calories. Plus, you're getting a ton of protein. And, peanut butter is one of those foods that keeps you full for a long time. So it's fine to eat, unless peanut butter sandwiches are ALL you're eating. Then you've got a problem :)
Good cereals are low in sugar and high in vitamins/minerals. Cheerios, Wheaties (Breakfast of Champions, can't go wrong!) Total, Life, Mini Wheats, and cornflakes. Plus, you can eat special K even if you're not following that "lose 6 lbs in 2 weeks! thing. It's a good cereal, but I still prefer cornflakes or something of that sort.
Whatever you choose, eat it with 1% or skim to make it as healthy as it can be :)
ok well my hair is really thick and during the day like after my hair drys from getting out of the shower it will be all dry and frizzy is there anything i can do to make it be all silky and smooth. without spending tons of money on hair products. Because my mom wont get me a bunch of hairstuff unless its of some sort of use to her soo yea.. Please help me
i also have somthing else to add. if i skip and day and not take a shower one day it will be silky and smooth the next and smell really good still is it ok to skip a day and shower ever other day? because ive heard that washing your hair everyday isnt good for it.
Do you know anything to my make hair silky smooth?
Is it ok to shower everyother day and not everyday?
Pantene Smooth and Sleek works well too.
I find that putting a straghtening serum or creme in my hair before it dries completely keeps frizz away, even if you're not planning on straightening. There's tons of different kinds and brands. Sunsilk 24/7 creme, Herbal Essences Smoothing Creme (i think it got discontinued, but you can look), and VO5 Make It Straight! Straightening Gel, to name a few. Plus, these are all under $5 at Target or WalMart. Yay!
As for showering, yeah, it fine, so long as you're not starting to stink hallfway through day two. You could also wrap your head in a towel and take a shower everyday, without washing your hair too.
hope I helped :)
Ok is there any way that you can make your boobs look bigger when you are wearing your prom dress? You know how the push up bras push your boobs up? Is there any way you can do that to a prom dress so they look bigger? or any other way you can make them look bigger in a dress? Or do some dresses do that by theirselves or what? If they do then what kind?
I have like no boobs so thats why im wondering.
Wear a push-up bra with your prom dress. You can get ones with extra padding too. Get one with convertible straps, or one that has straps that will be hidden by your dress, i.e. halter-style for a halter dress, strapless for a strapless dress or one with spaghetti straps, etc.
Victoria's Secret has every style imaginable. You'll pay a lot, but you get what you pay for. Stores like DEB sell bras too, so you could try them both on together (if you haven't bought a dress yet)
Dresses that may make them look bigger would be one with a lower neckline or with padding in the front. It's different on every person so find one that works for you.
whats the website where you can type in the food you ate and it will tell you how many calories are in it???

how long would it take to get to bermuda from massachusetts?
i looked it up but couldnt find it.
It depends on if you're flying, taking a boat, swimming, or walking on water.
What were you planning on? I'm guessing flying. It only takes a few hours to actually fly there, but don't get me started on how long it can take to get through security.
If you were gonna swim or walk, good luck with that :)
okay well all my friends would tell you that i have the perfect life, i get perfect grades in school, i have a great relationship with my family, and up until now ive had no family troubles. this morning i found out that my dad was admitted into a phsyicatric hospital because he said something to his councelor that worried him. he has been having many many problems with his work because he is a cop and i just dont know how to deal with it. i have a competition for dance this weekend and i have never had to deal with anything like this before so its new to me. hes not gonna be there to see me dance like he always is. and i would just like some advice on how to handle this or what to do. thank you so much in advance.
I completely agree with YG.
I'll add (from personal experience) that people with extremely stressful jobs are frequently admitted to psychiatric hospitals for observation. They don't think you're insane, and they're not gonna lock you up in a padded cell for ten years. It shouldn't be something you worry about. He'll be home soon.
And when he comes home, live life as you normally do. Play board games, make dinner together, whatever it is you normally do, do that.
:)
I'm 15 years old and am currently in my 2nd semester of 10th grade. I received my student transcript the other day when I went to fill out my schedule for my 11th grade year, and was very disapointed in what I saw. I've never been that concerned with my grades until I received this transcript. Now all I can think about is acadmeics and my class rank. Things like this never bothered me before, but now it's eating away at me. I was ranked 42/68. My very first question is if my grades improve, can my class rank improve?
Math has always been a weakness of mine since I was in kindergarden. For as long as I can remember i've always wanted to get out of any and all math classes for good. I took Algebra 1A my first semester of 9th grade and passed with a D; and then took Alegebra 1B my second semester of 9th grade and passed with a C. I received a new teacher for Informal Geometry (1st semester of 10th grade) and really liked her. I passed that class with a B and was so proud. Now though, I have a new teacher for Geometry 1 whom I despise of. I received my mid six weeks report and I currently have an F in there. It's not that I don't try, because I do. I pay attention in class and do my homework every night. I'm just not passing the class and I can't figure out what to do. So my second question of many is what can I do to study or help pass this trecherous class?
Everyone has always told me to just wait out all the math classes until 10th grade because then I would be done. All you need to graduate is 2 semesters of Algebra and 2 semesters of Geometry. I thought maybe if I could just pass Geometry, my worries would be over and I could concentrate on other subjects. But when I went to fill out my new schedule for next year, the guidance councelor told me to circle Algebra 2. I asked her why and mentioned that I thought you only had to have Algebra 2 if you were planning on receiving an advanced diploma which I no longer planned on doing for that very reason. She told me though it is true you only need Geometry to graduate, if I have any hopes of going to college, I have to take Algebra 2. My next question is why? Is this true? And where do I go from there?
I started taking Spanish 1 in 8th grade. I started off studying like a dog, and actually kept an A in the class the first mid six weeks. But as time went on, and the class became time consuming, I stopped studying and my class went all the way down to a D. Taking that class was not mandatory, but I took it because at the time I was wanting an Advanced Diploma which at the time seemed within my grasp. I barely passed with a D. I didn't plan on taking Spanish 2 because if you don't do well in Spanish 1, it's not recommened to take Spanish 2. (It's supposidly the hardest.) I knew you had to have 3 semesters of foreign language though, so when 9th grade rolled around, and it was time to circle my classes, I ended up circling Spanish 2. I barely passed that class as well, and I knew the advanced diploma I wanted so badly was out the window because of math anyways. But I already but 2 years into taking a spanish class, so I decided one more couldn't hurt anything. The problem was, I took the 2nd course in my 1st semester of 9th grade and our only Spanish teacher decided not to teach the class the next semester. But since I had already circled the class, I had to wait an entire summer and one semester before I could take the class again. At that point, everyone in the class had had spanish 2 consecutively, and I hadn't taken a class in ages. My mind had completely thrown out any and all spanish that I had learned over the years, and now I have an F in there as well for this reason. I can't study new material, if I don't remember the old material that went along with it. So my next question is what would you do?
As for 11th grade, i'm scared to death. My boyfriend is graduating this year, and he's always helped me as much as possible with my math homework/studying. I won't have him here with me now, so of course i'll fail Algebra 2 if I don't fail Geometry first. My schedule next year is Biology 2, Algebra 2, Advanced English 11, US/VA History, and i'll be going to the CareerTECH school the remainder of the time to take Child Care & Development. This includes night classes as well. I'll definately have to buckle down if I want my grades to improve and go to a good college and start a good life.
So I guess my other question is how to I prepare myself for continuous study on Algebra 2 or Geometry if I don't pass and go to night classes while having an AP class and Biology & History on my hands? Oh goshh..
I'm going to attempt to answer this, having actually paid attention to my guidance counselors and teachers on occassion :)
To answer your first question, yes, your class rank will improve if your average improves.
Math is a weak spot for a lot of people. It can be learned different ways. I, for example, do most math-related things differently than how the book teaches you to. Teachers sometimes don't think the way students do. In class (or after if you don't have "free time" during the class) seek out a student doing relatively well and ask them to explain how they do a certain skill. Sometimes, all it takes to make something "click" is another person explaining it a different way.
Also, is it possible for the Geometry teacher you had last year to teach you? Not as an official teacher, per se. But maybe you could stay after school and he could give you extra help? This teacher must think the way you do, since you did well in his class. I do something similar- my regular teacher is good, but another teacher explains things to me so well, I'm learning things chapers ahead of my advanced class.
This won't consume your life if you don't let it. Being captain will take up a lot of your time. If you stay really committed, you may be able to juggle everything at once. But if you find yourself getting too overwhelmed, step down. don't quit the squad entirely, because you'll be miserable. Enlist the help of your guidance counselor(s) at school. They can help balance your courseload, adjust class levels as needed, and maybe even get you in a different math class with a different teacher. They're there to help you- take advantage of it!
Set aside one time a month that you'll spend with your boyfriend without a single mention of school- jsut enjoy each other's company. See him other times when his schedule allows, and maybe he could help you study. You'll both be happy because you'll be spending time together and it's obviously something he loves to do.
I hope I helped at least a little, maybe the perspective of someone roughly your age/grade level will help. I can't stress enough how much teachers & counselors can and will help you. You obviously care about your education and future, so they'll be more than willing to go out of their way to help you.
good luck with everything! :)
is there any job that I can apply at age 13? I seriously need a job cuz my fmaily is getting broke!
Until you're 14 you're stuck doing odd jobs. If you're lucky you can bus tables. Babysit, mow lawns, wash the neighbor's car, clean windows, recycle cans.
Once you turn 14 you can get a work permit from your school and work anywhere that's willing to hire you.. McDonalds, local diner, grocery store, etc.
