"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
hey umm remember that people say the virgin coconut oil is good for your hair?
well wat does it do to it?
and also how do you use it?
after shampoo?
afer conditioner?
or after you take a shower? GET MY PIOnt? please help me or please give me a really good website... oh and does it make your hair long.. or healthy or what... thanks and i hope you anser my question =]
Hmm. I've always used olive oil, because it's what my mom buys :D Coconut oil works too though. I always apply it on DRY hair, before I take a shower. Heat it in the microwave for about 30 seconds, and apply it to your hair starting at the ends. Work it up either CLOSE to your roots (if your hair's oily) or to your roots (if it's dry).
It helps if you clip your hair up. Leave it in for about a half-hour. If your short on time, its okay to shorten the time though. Wash it out with shampoo. Wash it twice for good measure. Use either a clarifying shampoo (buy the Suave one because it's really cheap) or a lot of regular shampoo that's see-through ish (like, not super creamy). Follow with conditioner, like usual, because it'll help seal in moisture. Plus, you just washed your hair twice.
I do this two or three times a month, because I don't have the time. And I forget to sometimes. It'll make your hair shiny and soft and strong and basically every desireable adjective that describes hair :)
hope I helped ya!
& P.S.- Make sure you rinse the oil out of the shower. Otherwise the next person to shower will slide into the wall and hurt their nose ;)
i am think about dying my hair today light brown i have really dark brown hair almost black but you can tell its brown but any colors that will be good and is there a chance it will turn red?
There's some dyes made especially for brown hair. Your hair shouldn't turn red as long as you don't use a really cheap dye. I recommend Gariner Nutriesse and 100% Color, only because I've used them before. Don't get ColorSilk... it smells icky and the bottle is REALLY annoying.
To find a color that looks good, go only a few shades lighter the first time you dye your hair. If you like it, you can go for a more dramatic change in a month.
There's always the possibility your hair will be a color you did NOT dye it. If that happens, your haircolor is your saving grace- brown hair is easiest to dye back (I think) and your skin tone will likely match a lot of shades.
Also, may I suggest two more things? Get someone to help you dye the back of your head. And lastly, try a washout color like Loreal ColorPulse before using permanent. You can decide without permanent punishment if golden brown is for you or not.
Oh yeah.. and they give you gloves for a reason. Use them. haha, trust me.
Good luck! :)
I like the 'oops Allisa said that :)'! i think im going to try that! =D But no this one time I was on the phone with Alissa and then i start hearing the phone ring! Im like "Allisa! . . . who are you calling?" She said. "you'll see" And then Im like "oh my gosh!" not having any idea who it was. And then a guy answers and says hello. Im like "oh no! thats beagle boy!" And i muted the phone. Then Allisa was like 'do you know who this is?' and he said 'um . . . wait . . . no' She said 'I always say hi to you' he said 'oh i know who it is! i just forgot your name Im sorry!' and then she says 'Allisa' he replies 'oh rite Allisa! sorry. whatsup?' At that moment I figure out that Allisa wasnt lying when she said that beagle boy asked her whatsup. I was like 'talk? no talk?' well I didnt talk. Then i have been taking test on google like 'how does your crush feel about you?' and the majority say 'he likes you hes too shy to talk' And alissa says something like that too.
thanks,
Rachel
Well, Google knows all ;)
(And friends are pretty reliable too)
There's only so much you can figure out without actually TALKING to someone about how they feel. Sure, it's taking a risk, but it's worth it.
Two things could happen:
1. He likes you back.
2. He doesn't like you like that (which I doubt, because he hasn't reacted negatively to subtle hints that you like him). Even if this does happen, you'll have regained a friendship where you can tell each other everything- which is hard to come by.
Either way, you win. So go for it- tell him how you feel, and ask if he feels the same way :)
Hi my name is Rachel and there is this boy that my friend named him beagle boy. (my friend named Katie gives guys I like some sort of nickname with 'boy' at the end ex: shadow boy, cool boy,and beagle boy) Well I have liked Beagle boy since my freshman year. I had him in every one of my classes when I was in his block. And we didnt talk unless we got partnered up or something. And everytime Is aw him in the halls I would say 'hi!' and he would just say hi back but not with much interest. Then one day I decided that I would stop liking him so I stopped saying hi and then like 3 days after I stopped he walked right by me and said 'hi' with no emotion and he didnt even look at me! then I got all happy and I was like 'Hey!' but then when he already past me I turned around to see if by any chance it was'nt me he said hi to. Maybe there was someone behind me. I mean the boy didnt even look at me! so I turned around and no one was there. so up to this day. i dont know if he said hi to me or someone else. Ok this was my freshman year I am now a sophmore. And i still like him. But all we do is stare at eachother as we walk past eachother in the hallways or something. I told my friend Alissa I like him. So she started talking to him and saying hi to him and all that. She says that she goes up to him and says 'hi' and he says 'whatsup?'This one day I was outside with my friend Alissa and as beagle boy got there she said 'hi!' and he said 'hi' she said 'how was your weekend?' he responded 'good' and then he she was like 'ok bye' he said 'bye'. Im wondering, why was he like trying to leave? why didnt he ask 'whatsup?' like he usually does when Alissa talks to him.
P.S: I told him I liked him over AIM and he said 'cool' and then we went on with a normal conversation. But I told him I liked him like 2 months ago.
thanks,
Rachel
Hmm. Beagle Boy here sounds like quite a character. I don't know why he tried to leave and didn't ask Alissa whatsup; it could have been anything: running late, the voices telling him to leave school ASAP, etc.
When you told him you liked him, his reaction was neutral. It could have meant "Cool, I like you too but I don't have the guts to tell you" or "Cool, but I think we should stay friends". Major lack of communication here. My best advice here is to go back to talking to him like you did freshman year. Strike up a conversation during lunch, say hi in the halls, call him for no reason once in a while. After a few weeks of this, you may be able to tell if he likes you- but maybe not. Ask him how he feels straight up. Or, you could hint around it, saying something like, "Hey what do you think about the two of us?" (This works especially well over AIM because it's easier to blow off as "oh, just wondering" or, "OMG Alissa sent that sorry!!" if he reacts badly to it :)
hope I helped ya, and good luck :)
I don't know how it happened, but I noticed that the little tooth right beside one of my front teeth has chipped- just a tiny bit on the edge. It feels kind of jagged.. it's not a big piece or anything, but I'm afraid it can get worse since the tooth is small and delicate. I'm gonna have to get it taken care of soon.. But my question ..actually 2 q's: is, a) what's the standard procedure dentists use to take care of chipped teeth? and b) what can I do to prevent it from getting worse in the meantime?
HAHA the almost same exact thing happened to me. Only I fell of my bike into traffic, so I know how it happened.
Small chips are usually "capped off" with bonding material. Basically, it's the stuff they use to fill cavities, but white instead of silverey. It's easier to maintain than caps- and less damaging, because caps require that the tooth be sanded down to a nub.
It's not painful at all once it's done. If you have really sensitive teeth, ask for a local anesthetic. I didnt, and I should have ;)
In the meantime, you can avoid chewing with your front teeth, and drinking really cold liquids.
:)
how many drops of food dye do i need to put into white frosting to get hot pink frosting? i mean like bright hot pink. i have blue, yellow, green, red -the usual. how many drops and what colors please?
You might need the "neon" colors to get hot pink. But you can get a really funky pinkish color by using a few drops of red and a teensey plop of yellow.
Exactly how much you need depends on the amount of frosting. Use one drop at a time. It goes further than you think it will.

I babysit my little brother all the time who is three and now my neighbor asked me to babysit her two boys who are 9 and 12 and I'm nervous cause I've never babysat that age group so I'm nervous. Any tips, hints, or ideas on what to do?
Thanks!
Babysitting that age group is less actual "babysitting" and more of a "make sure they don't set the curtains on fire and paint the ceiling orange" kind of deal.
Just find out what they're into. Do they usually play basketball after school? Shoot hoops with them in the driveway. Do they have epic Halo2 marathons? Offer to make snacks for them, or join in the game (if they let you, of course!)
Good Luck! :)
are fruits & vegetables fattening at ALL? i mean, they HAVE to be atleast a little! if i ate 900 apples a day, i would HAVE to get fatter.... right?
If you ate 900 apples a day you'd probably die. Or at least get the runs for about a week straight.
They're not fattening, no. But they do containa lot of natural sugars, which give you energy and, in theory, could be stored in your body as fat. But eat your fruits and veggies, they've very good for you.
Eating your veggies doesn't a fat person make, put it that way.
k, im in 9th grade and i have to wake my 8 year old brother up for school and he never gets up when i tell him to. what can i do to make him get up the first or atleast the second time i tell him too? he has an alarm clock but it doesn't wake him up so i do it.
Opening the window and turning on all the lights in his room helps a lot. Also, turn his alarm up as far as it goes (without waking up the neighbors too)
Wake him up 10 minutes before he actually HAS to be out of bed. Say "In 10 minutes you gotta come eat breakfast, okay?" Those ten minutes will be the best 10 minutes of the day, haha. After 10, come in to the room and tell him he HAS to get up now. Save ice water as a last resort, but pulling off blankets or doing something he hates you doing (like singing) can motivate him.
If he's tired all the time, and NEVER really wakes up fully, he may have a medical problem. But, that's highly unlikely so don't worry about that. Sounds like he's just incredibly lazy to me! If all else fails, a strategically dumped glass of H2O with ice works wonders ;)
Good luck!
Hello everyone! I want to first of all thank you for taking the time to read this- I know that it gets very busy on this site! Alright- to get started. About four days ago, I stubbed my little pinky toe. It did not hurt at first, but then about two hours later, I was crying in pain. I am pretty sure that it is broken, because of the bruising, and it now the bones are not lined up as they were. I am not sure what I can do about it. The doctors cannot do anything, because they can not put such a little cast on a toe. Is there anything I can do to help it heal faster?
Thanks! Have a great day :]
You really should see a doctor. They won't put a cast on it, but they'll align your toe correctly and tape it to the toe next to it. It'll heal the right way after they do that. If you try to do it yourself, you may not line up the bones right, and your toe will look weird after it heals.
So really, the money you spend at the doctors will be worth not having a curly-fry shaped toe for the rest of your life.
Regardless of what you or doctors do, put plenty of ice on your foot (to minimize swelling) and raise it above your heart whenever possible (pillows work well)
Hope your toe feels better! :) haha, I don't think I've ever said that on Advicenators before...
ok well my teeth arent all that white and i have about thirty-four dollars and im planning on spendning it on some really good teeth whitening stuff. My mom works at hy-vee and thats the only place i can really get stuff from because she goes there everyday and could pic it up for me...do you know of any teeth whiteners like the strips or the other stuff that works really fast?!?!? thats about $30 or under that?. that i could find at Hy-vee?
Whitestrips are really good.
Cheaper alternatives (which I recommend you try before spending $25 or so on the Whitestrips) are Linsterine Whitening Rinse and Arm&Hammer Advance White Toothpaste. Both taste funky at first- but you get used to them, and they work really well.
Also, it doesn't do much for whitening, but get some floss too. It'll make you feel better and make your breath less funky too. Plus, plaque buildup and pieces of steak don't look good in anyone's teeth!
:)
I am 13 years old but turning 14 next month. I have babysat kids from the ages 2-6 numerous times. I also babysit my brothers who are 9 and 12. This Saturday I was asked to babysit these 3 kids. One is 1 1/2 years old, 1 is 8 years old and the other is 10. I know the 10-year old because she goes on my bus and I talk to her. I am worried about the 1 1/2 year old because he is not potty trained so that mean's I will be changing diapers. I have babysat alot before but for some reason this time Im more nervous. Is there anyway I can prepare quickly for Saturday and get over my worries. Thank you
Don't worry about something going wrong. 8 and 10-year olds are old enough to amuse themselves- be there and constantly be attentive to make sure they don't accidentally implode the bathroom.
Most of your time and energy will be spent caring for the 1 1/2 year old. Remember also that if something DOES happen (God forbid) the older kids have the knowledge to help you (i.e., they can dump water on small fires or call for help, etc).
But seriously, don't worry. Everything will work out fine. Think of an activity you can ALL do together (art projects are great if they're creative) and you can put the toddler down for a nap & say, fingerpaint with the kids when he's sleeping.
goodluck!
:)
hey
well i've had a few dreams about my guinea pigs recently. like, one dream i came home from school and there were three cages ( i have two cages side-by-side ) and there were two of one of my guinea pigs! another dream i had was that there were seven or eight duplicates of my OTHER guinea pig (not from the first dream) and they were running all over the floor! some were fat, some were babies, but they all looked like my little boy! can someone please explain to me why i am seeing duplicates of my guinies?
tyy.
Are your guinea pigs a boy and a girl? Maybe you were worried about them reproducing. Or perhaps you were just thinking about your pets before you fell asleep.
So unless you had a dream about them poisoning your food, you've got nothing to worry about :)
I have a really bad toothache. Its been going on and off for about a month. I went to the dentist and the guy said it was because of my braces, I KNOW ITS NOT. The guy wasnt even my regular dentist. But anyways, is there anyways to get rid of it without having to take medicine or use anbesol or stuff like that?
You probably have an infection. See your regular dentist- you don't want to lose a tooth or get a cavity, right?
Infections are nothing serious if they're treated- just antibiotics. In the meantime, try Orajel to take the edge off. It's a gel and it numbs anything you apply it to.
:)
Is there another program I can download that will let me upload my music to my ipod besides itunes? because itunes isn't working for me, and I'd really like to update my ipod tonight.
iPods are tricky. Without erasing everything there's really nothing you can do.
Try re-imstalling iTunes. That should help :)
does anyone know any information on antidepressents...liek what are the best ones...which ones are bad...what are all the side effects?
All antidepressants are different. Zoloft will work for one person, wreak havoc in another. These meds are imcredibly powerful- they're not something to be taken (ha) lightly and you should absolutely be under a doctor's care taking them.
If you think you need them, see a counselor, doctor, psyciatrist, SOMEONE. You'll have to be monitored when you're on them to check for sudden side effects/reaction to the antidepressants, so don't take another person's Prozac just because you're feeling a little blue that day.
Okay well everyone is telling me that my hair would look better if it were a light brown.
I have dirty blonde hair now, and i wanted to know which brand have you tried/or suggest that I should use just for a temporary, like a few weeks or something and where can I get it?
If I like it then I'll go more drastic and go to a salon but for right now i just want to test it,Thanks!
Loreal Color Pulse. It works really well and smells AMAZING.
Keep in mind though, it may take quite a bit longer to fade out of your hair, since you're blonde. But it WILL fade, eventually. So don't worry.
:)
ok. well i use this band for example ;this happens with like 4 other bands though. but
Hellogoodbye ; i have 6 songs by them on there. on my iPod if you go under artists. then Hellogoodbye. it says i only have one song by them on my iPod. how can i fix this?
They're likely under "compliations". To correct this, simply uncheck "Part of a Compliation". It's under the song info, near the genre. (when you right click-> get info.
:)
i have a couple songs that i like but i dont know the name. can someone please help me?
the first one goes like this:
"ohh... look what you've done... you've made a fool of everyone... " and i dont know the rest of the song, sorry!
the second song goes like this:
"i'm not crazy im just a little unwell, i know right know you cant tell. but stay a while and baby then u'll see, a different side of me. i'm not crazy i'm just a little... (something) i know right now you don't care but stay a while and baby then you'll see" or something like that. anyone know???
the lastly i was wondering if anyone knew some other songs kinda like the first one... maybe about something like somebody who turned a bunch of people against someone?? thanks so much!!
The second one's "Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty.
The first one's "Look What You've Done" By JET, but someone else already answered.
As for other songs, check out Jet's CD "Get Born". It's not half bad. Listen to it online first though; the other songs are completely different.
:)
Ok over spring break im suposed to find a veteran from WWII or the vietnam war and I'm suposed to ask them questions.. what are some questions i could ask them?
Ask them what it was like. Not just the fighting, but what it was like when they weren't on the battlefields. Friendships they made, civilians they talked to. Once they get a story going, it'll branch out on its own. Take notes. And listen to them intently.
Veterans deserve our respect and you shouldn't just view this as "ugh, what a stupid assignment". You'll most likely find it quite interesting.
