about

My name is Laura and I'm 28 years old. I live in Illinois and work as a licensed veterinary technician. I am a runner, bookworm and obviously, an animal lover.

I've been on this site since '05. I take hiatuses, but I'm never gone for good. I enjoy giving advice and I've made such lovely friends on this site that I couldn't imagine giving it up!

chat it up yo.

ps. here's my bestestestest friend.
I love him. You will too :)

advice

what is the order of sex? like does a guy have to be hard to have sex? when a guy is hard do you have to give him a blowjob? should a blowjob happen before sex?

There really isn't a specific "order", but he does need to be hard. Otherwise, things will be really difficult.

A blowjob can happen at any time during sex, it's really all up to you.

should I break up with my boyfriend? We fight about 2-3 times a day averagely; I love him still but this fighting is getting to be too much.. is this reason enough even though i still love him? we have tried to work this out, believe me.. he promised and the promises were broken.. nothing works

How long have you been together? If it's only been a few months, then maybe it is time to give something else a try.

You're so young and you have so much time left, that I think if this relationship consists of more fights and promise breaking than positive things, you should end it.

However, if you've been together for a long period of time (like a year or more), then talk to him. Sit him down, and have a serious, deep conversation about it. You can get over this if you both really work at it and commit to making things better.

I am so worried about it that I can not transfer the songs from Ipod to my PC. Who can help me?

Use this program called Music Rescue. It's really easy to use and it works. I've used it many times :)

Long story short, me and this girl talked all summer, and when she moved back to school I asked her out. She basically said "no" without actually saying no. She told me later that she was having a really hard time getting over her last relationship. It got awkward for a couple weeks but soon we were back to normal and talking and hanging out on a regular basis again. Although the conversations aren't everyday anymore. I even still get signals from her that she may like me, although I totally misread her first signals, so I don't know. Anyway, I feel like I made a lot of mistakes in the situation, but I still consider her one of my better friends, and she initiates a lot of conversations. I'm just so scared that if I bring it up again that she will say no again and our friendship will start to dwindle even more. But at the same time it's killing me to just sit here and do nothing. What should I do or how could I bring this up again?

I'm going to be completely honest here, I don't think you should ask her out again.

Speaking from experience, it makes friendships REALLY awkward when a guy friend asks you out more than once after you rejected him the first time.

Maybe you can try flirting with her and seeing if she flirts back? Test it out, see how she reacts. Don't do anything huge, but maybe try and hold her hand when you're out with her somewhere and see how she reacts. If she holds your hand, there's a chance she might like you.

Try that out, and if you'd like, come back to me and I will be glad to help you further :)

what do i wear to a concert? i know it's dumb, but it's my first real concert, and i want something nice but not trashy. i live in the UK, so something with in a 16 yr old's price range, and that's avalible here. also does anyone know the Set they are playing now? thanks!!!

I've seen All Time Low twice. Usually, people just wear jeans and a T shirt. A lot of people wore skinny jeans and (obviously) ATL shirts.

Nothing fancy or out of the ordinary :)

what are signs that mean guy want to give you a kiss or want a kiss?

Whenever my boyfriend wants to kiss me, he ALWAYS keeps glancing over at me. This is like, the universal sign of "I want to kiss you". He'll look at you, he'll have a serious expression, and he might even glance at your lips a few times.

Other than that, he might make jokes about it. Like, the other day when I was sitting on the couch with my boyfriend, we were texting hearts and smiley faces to each other, and he randomly texted me "Kiss me?" :)

Also, he'll try to move closer to you. Like, physically, he will move himself closer to you.

Ok, here's the problem. A really good friend of mine, Nick, has been in a bad relationship for a while. It is clearly causing him pain and frustration. Friday night, we were watching a movie and eventually started making-out. It lasted about 2 hours. I don't know what to do about it. Should I talk to him? We said it wouldn't be awkward, but I do kind of like him. I'm very confused. What should I do?

Yes, you should talk to him. You can't just hook up with somebody (especially a close friend) and NOT expect something to change.

I would just sit down with him and talk about it. Start off by explaining how you can see that his current relationship isn't working out. Tell him it's clearly taking a toll on him. Sometimes, it takes another person's insight in order for us to see that things aren't working out, no matter how badly we want them to.

Then I would bring up the whole making out randomly for 2 hours deal. Don't spring it on him, just tell him that you kind of do have feelings for him and you want to know what's up.

Good luck!

I didn't make a garden at home this year but next year I plan to do that because I want some nice, tasty home-grown vegetables for salads and stuff. Anyway, what are easy vegetables to grow at home? I want to go on and make a list so I don't have to worry about it next year. I have enough space to plant whatever vegetables but I don't want to try anything that is complicated or needs a lot of maintenance since I'm just getting into this.

Hello. I work at a Plant Nursery, so I've got some basic knowledge on growing vegetables.

The best thing to start with is tomatoes. They're relatively easy and don't require a lot of maintenance. Most of the time when people come into the place I work at and ask about starting a vegetable garden, we recommend starting with tomatoes.

Another thing you can try is herbs. They require minimum space and even less effort. :)

Good luck and let me know if you need any more help!

is it okay for a 19 year old to date a 24 year old? just curious to everyone's opinions :) thanks!

I think it's fine because you're both older. If you were like, 15 and he was 20, then it would be weird.

But like I said, I think it's totally ok :)

What's YOUR view on long distance relationships?
xx

I tried one this summer, and things didn't work out at all. They ended sort of badly and I don't ever want to go through it again. It was really hard and it hurt a lot...

Do you like having an i pod touch?
Also any good FREE apps you like?
and can anyone of you explain to me how to get pictures from my laptop 0n to my i pod?

I have had my i pod since febuary 28th.
and i really like it and i wanna get the i phone whats your thoughts on the i phone?

I'm addicted to my iPod Touch. It's probably the best thing I've bought since my iPod Video. My younger brother also got an iPod Touch, and he loves it, too.

Everybody that I know who has an iPod Touch loves it. If you're going to buy a new iPod/electronic of any kind, go with the iPod Touch. I promise you, you will love it.

Some cool Free Apps that I have:
- Facebook.
- Daily Sudoku (I'm a nerd, I know.)
- Fandago. (This comes in REALLY handy because I see a lot of movies.)
- Spawn. (ADDICTION. And great for long train rides.)
- Pandora Radio.
- Cool Facts.
- Tap Tap Revolution.

As far as the iPhone goes, my boyfriend has one and it's really neat. He doesn't like it because he says it freezes all the time, but I think it's pretty neat.

And getting pictures on your iPod is easy. Plug it in, and when the screen that has your iPod information comes up, click "Photos" and then you check the box that says something like "Sync all photos".

I hope this helps!

i was watching the movie "Adventureland" and they were... im guessing 18-19 and smoking pot and drinking. I know smoking pot and under aged drinking is illegal and that its just a movie but, is it ok to do those things at that age? Does everybody do it? i'm usually 100% a good girl (A+ student) etc. And would never consider smoking pot or drinking, but i can't help but wonder... HELP! i am currently only 13 though and will not smoke pot at this age. but

1.) is it ok at that age?
2.) does everbody do it?

- so confused.

Honestly? Yeah, a lot of kids experiment with it, but not everybody does. Some people choose to try things, and some don't. It's a personal decision and it's all up to you. Now, I'm by no means saying you should try it, because if you don't want to, then you most definetely shouldn't try it. Just because a lot of people do doesn't mean you have to try it, too.

Personally, I think it's ok to try it once or twice (at the age of 18-19, NOT 13). But once it becomes routine or a habit, then it's NOT ok at all.

Hey Laura. I need your advice on a purse ;] I'm saving a few dollars here and there and splurging on a Dooney and Bourke handbag and I cannot decide between styles! I'd probably get black, although white isn't out of the question just yet.

The main thing is that one has a zipper and one doesn't, and the first one has a lot more room. Which one is better, in your opinion?

Thanks for inboxing :)

I like the 2nd one better. :)

They're both super cute, though!

my boyfriend of a year just broke up with me. he said that i deserve to have someone who's always around and he cant be because of college. so aka he just wants to be single.. i dont know what to do..

http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=564711

From there:

I have found, firsthand, that the best way to get over a guy is to do the following:

Step 1: Have a really good cry.
- When my boyfriend and I broke up, I was super upset (like words cannot describe how bad I felt). But I told myself that I wasn't going to let it flip my entire world upside down. So I let myself have one really good cry, and then I told myself I'm going to start moving on. Which brings me to...

Step 2: Friends = lifesavers.
- Go to the mall and buy yourself something nice (don't over spend, though. Just something small, but nice. Like a new outfit or purse!) Or go see a movie, or out to dinner or something! Don't mope around your house all day doing nothing.

Step 3: Talk about it.
- It feels SO good to let it all out. Sit down with somebody you trust (for me, it was my mom) and just spill your heart out. Again, don't let it ruin your life or impact you too much.

Step 4: Move ON!
- Stop talking to him for a while (you need to give yourself time to get OVER him). Don't stalk his Facebook, spend time with other people, and don't even waste time TALKING about him.

Honestly, it's going to take time, and it's going to be hard, but once you get over him you will feel SO much better. I promise you that this guy is NOT worth wasting all of your time on, and that there are plenty of other fish in the sea. Go out and find a new guy that treats you right and is WORTH your time. Forget about this guy ASAP. You're young and have plenty of time for guys. And, as one of my favorite books puts it: The first boy is always the hardest.

Best of luck! :)

hey can masturbaution cause acne? also can it cause any other like problems with your body. and if not masturbaution doenst cause acne does anything like that do it (i mean other then not washing) like stress and stuff like that. thanks!

Masturbation DOES NOT CAUSE ACNE. It DOES NOT hurt your body at all, unless you're jerking it like 10 times a day, every day (which I'm sure you're not).

Acne can be caused by stress. For more help:

From there:

First of all, if you THINK you're going to be alone and have a pessimistic view on your potential for making friends, you will be alone.

That being said, making friends really isn't all that hard. Just talk to people! Here are a few ways you can start a conversation:

1. Compliment them.
- If they're wearing a nice pair of shoes, or some cute jeans, tell them. Let them know you like their shoes, and then ask where they got them. After that, ask if they're comfortable or something. Don't be annoying about it, but take interest in the person you're talking to, and hopefully, chances are they'll show interest back.

2. Find something you have in common.
- If they're wearing a band shirt, and it's a band you like, tell them! For example, say they are wearing a Rocket Summer shirt, say to them, "I see you have on a Rocket Summer shirt, do you like his music?" Then, after they answer, tell them your opinion on the band/artist.

3. Talk about your surroundings/where you are.
- Say it's after class and the person next to you is getting up to leave. Walk out next to him/her and comment on the class. Say something like, "That was kind of an interesting lesson." or "Was it just me, or was that lecture kind of boring?" or, if you're sitting outside on a bench, and somebody is sitting next to you, make a comment about the weather or where you are.

4. Make a joke!
- There's no better way to make friends with somebody than to make them smile/laugh. BUT don't make a joke about another person, it will make you look bad AND potentially hurt another person's feelings.

I was 12 when i had my first boyfriend and my first kiss, The first one was really bad cause I had know idea what i was doing like my tooth went in his mouth or something it was so bad cause we were at the movies with a group of people 3 girls two boy so my ex and the other guy playned it out on how he was ganna kiss me we were in the parking lot and the other guy was trying to get the two girls disstracted so he was like omg look and ofcourse i looked cause i didn't understand what was going on then my ex was like saying my name and was telling me to hurry and come here adn i new it was about to happen i was like wtf do i do and it was so bad ha
we never madeout cause i was new to all that stuff so i was wondering how your first makeout was?.... or kiss if you haven't madeout with anyone.

My first kiss was in a car after a movie, and it was when I was like 13 or 14. Ironically enough, it was with the boy who I'm back together with now at age 17. :)

Okay so i'm going to print out a bunch of my pictures this weekend and i want to put them on my wall in a cool way..not just in like a big square. Last year i spelt out 'life' with them, but i want to do something new. Any ideas for words, shapes, or designs? thanks

I think you should just make a huge collage. Cut out words from magazines to go with the pictures, and print out funny pictures from the Internet. It's a really fun project, it's one of a kind, and it looks awesome :)

I like the idea of spelling out your name, too. That could be really fun. Or, you can spell out the word "friends" or "family" or something.
