"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
how do i get a guy to noticee me ?
Stop trying.
Seriously.
Just be your normal self, get involved with clubs at school/sports/after school things, whatever. Talk to coworkers (if you're working) and go out with your friends. Don't try to get a guy's attention just for dating. You'll discover (if you haven't already) that some of your best friends can be of the opposite sex, because they give a different point of view on life.
If you're dressing provocatively and/or acting like an airhead and thinking it's cute, you're probably going to attract the wrong kind of guy. You want someone to like you for who you really are, right? :)

Ok.. so, I've been trying to not wash my hair everyday because it dries out if I do.. However, I feel like I sweat a lot through my head and feel like i need to wash it. Is there anything i can do? thanksss
Use a gentle, moisturizing shampoo, and always condition. It's possible that you're just stripping your hair of natural moisture. Keep in mind that shampoos at every price point are moisturizing if you get the right one. One of my favorite shampoos is 88 cents!
I try not to wash my hair every day because:
- I dye my hair very rarely and like the color to stay in longer.
- I hate washing my hair and restyling it.
Whenever possible I go a day and a half between washes. Or two days, if I'm not going anywhere - I'll tie my hair up when I shower.
Most likely, you could get away with every other day washes; most people can, once their hair adjusts. Or just rinse your hair out, without using shampoo. Do a little experimentation and decide what works for you.
Another possible solution is dry shampoo. I'm not 100% crazy about it but it works wonders for some people. They're pretty cheap for some brands (Tresemee and Suave both make them now) and do their job.
Also, I've noticed that my hair feels sweaty/icky/generally gross only around my face after I work out. Try tying the front part of your hair up (or at least pinning bangs back) when you're sweating/working out. I use bands like this when I work out at the gym:
(DON'T pay that much for them, you can get them for less than $5 or so, or even at a dollar store!)

I killed a squirrel... I swear I didn't mean too.. It was an accident.. I was actually going under the speed limit, and the thing ran out in front of me while I was driving. :( What am I going to do.. I can't stop crying! My parents think I'm stupid for crying but I feel bad because I never killed something before and I love animals! Should I give it a funeral?? Say a few words for the squirrel... :(
There's nothing wrong with saying a few words for the fallen squirrel. If it makes you feel better, go ahead. I wouldn't recommend literally burying him/her, because you would risk exposing yourself to rabies and other diseases.
When you're driving, things like this can happen. Swerving would have only caused an accident and lead to more casualties. It isn't your fault because it's just one of those things that happens in life.
Also, next time you're out walking and see a squirrel, tell him/her to look both ways before crossing the street (keep some distance for your safety). Good karma :)

Okay so I am in senior year. Here 12th grade is VERY important..My admissions into a good college will be only on the basis of the marks I score in my "board examination" which is held at the end of the year. The papers are not checked by my teachers but by some other teachers who don't know me and are teaching in some other school. This is done to make the examination fair. The cutoffs for any college where i live (new delhi) are CRAZZY. I mean nothing below a 475/500 is acceptable.
I have Physics, Chemistry, Computer science, English and Maths as my subjects.
Im telling you all of this just so that you know there is a lot of pressure to perform well.. and I have to in order to get a good college.
Ive just been real distracted for a while. I don't know how to concentrate on my studies. I dont feel like sitting with my books. It is freaking me out because every day matters to me. Please help!!!!!
If it helps. I havent been that bad in my studies. I wont say its cutting edge but then im one of the top 10 students in my class. Its just that i dont know how to get that extra edge..so that i can actually get into a college here. a very good college..
Just try not to think so much about how important your final year is. Some people perform well under pressure. Clearly, this method doesn't work for you, making you unwilling/lazy about studying. Here in America (and some other countries) we call this "senior-itis" - simply put, a "disease" (not wanting to work) that strikes seniors only :)
So, you're definitely not alone here. What worked for me was thinking, "Okay, I've finished 11 years with flying colors. Everything still turned out fine, and I can do this." Rather than trying to study more and more, I just kept up the normal pace I had been studying at for the last 3.5 years of high school.
Just set little goals for yourself. Do an hour of studying (or two) before you go out. That way you won't feel guilty and stressed about your work!
Good luck :)

i have really thick curly hair.
i want to get it cut but i dont know how...usually i ask the stylist to cut it to a little above my shoulders and thin it out. i think i want to keep it longer this time, but i dont want just a trim. i also dont want bangs.
another hair issue is that when i leave it down it falls awkwardly around my face...i usually tell them to "frame my face" but maybe thats wrong?
what are some good long-ish hairstyles that are easy to manage and dont require too much styling?
Ask for long layers, right at the ends. And don't get your hair thinned - I did that once and wanted to cry every time I saw my hair. It doesn't work on curly hair, at least not the way you want it to. Go in to the salon with your hair styled curly, and say you want a cut to make your hair less poofy at the ends. Mine naturally makes a triangle and my stylist takes care of it.
If you're okay with using products, I highly recommend Paul Mitchell Super Skinny serum. I've been using it since middle school (I'm now a sophomore in college) and it's a lifesaver. It's expensive up front - $20ish a bottle- but it lasts awhile and ounce for ounce is about the same or cheaper than John Frieda. But, don't use the shampoo. It made my curls limp and sticky.
Also, air drying is better than a hair dryer, especially in the long run. It makes hair less frizzy and whatnot. I dry mine with a Turbie Twist. It's a hair towel with a loop and dries thick hair wicked fast :)
Good luck with your hair and don't be afraid to experiment! Finding that magic working combo is the greatest feeling :)

hi everyonee, i have really bad razor burn on my thighs and they sort of itches. i keep picking on it like itll go away but its not but when i do pick at it, liquids come out. how do i get rid of razor burn fast, or at all?
Don't shave again until it's cleared up. Use Neosporin to prevent infection. Moisturize as needed and stop picking at it. If it gets redder and/or infected, you could have scratched your skin and let an infection in. If that's the case, see a doctor.
To prevent this in the future, only use sharp razors, go slow, and always use shave gel, soap, conditioner, something. Never shave dry. Also, try shaving at least the night before if you plan on swimming in a chemically treated pool. Shaving and swimming right after will irritate skin.

do colored circle lenses ruin your eyes and r they illegal in americs
Colored contact lenses are frequently sold.
They need to be fitted to your eye; however, if you already wear contacts they can be ordered online or through your doctor. You don't need a prescription/correction to get the Colours, but you need an eye exam.
I've seen a lot of lenses that are "costume" but I'd never put those in my eye. Your vision is serious business and I wouldn't screw it up just for the sake of saving a few bucks on contact lenses.

So I was walking around the mall the other day and came across a kiosk selling Burt's Bee's products. They gave me a sample of a face wash.. its the one that says bark and chamomile. Anyways, I used it for about 5 days (its empty now) and my face did feel and look a little better. I usually use Clean and Clear face wash but after using this little sample, I'm beginning to think that maybe I should use burt's bee's face wash.
what do you think? anyone that has used it? opinions?
Oh and I haven't tried the Burt's Bee's acne solutions but if you have heard of it or even used it, did it help? were you glad you bought it? what are your opinions on it?
thanks!
I used it before, and I really liked it. I switched to the Body Shop's Tea Tree line, but only because it was cheaper for me, and I liked how it felt on my skin. I've come to prefer more natural products because my skin reacts oddly to some drugstore products and the natural ones seem to go further.
Their acne solutions work very well; I used it before when my acne was more severe. if it works for you, go for it! Your skin also can change over time, so if Clean and Clear isn't working as well, switch by all means!

Is there a way you can color/dye your hair without dying the roots?
I'm trying to go back to my natural color and so far my roots are growing and there's about an inch of my natural color and then the rest is previously colored/dyed hair. I don't want that random line of 2 colors, so is there a way I can color it without getting the roots colored?
PS: i am not going to just color the whole head of hair because last time I did that, i turned out with 2 different colors and it looked really bad.
Apply the color only to the part you want to dye. Avoid the roots. If you don't trust yourself to do that, ask a stylist. They can make a color that will match your natural color exactly, and it'll match better :)
Also, make sure you're deep-conditioning for a day or two before the color, and don't use any styling products before you dye. Serums, mousses, etc have little impact on color, but I've always noticed more consistent results when I didn't use anything besides shampoo and conditioner.

Hello:) my boyfriend just graduated highschool and his party is coming up within three weeks. I want to give him a PLAIN forrest green fleece blanket (his favorite color) with a message that takes up the whole blanket (not just a corner logo or mongram) that says
"Today I don't feel like doing anything." It's an inside joke and its for his dorm.. but I don't know where and how I can make this blanket?! can somebody help me please? Thank youuu guyss:)
Hey, I did some pretty extensive searching, and the best I could find was a couple companies who offer block letter embroidery and it wasn't very big; definitely NOT what you're looking for.
Just from what I know about embroidery (my mom's a pretty avid seamstress/sewing addict) it's wicked complicated, expensive, time-consuming, etc. Plus, it makes the back of things scratchy, at least by blanket standards.
Have you considered making it yourself? You can buy a fleece blanket almost anywhere these days. LL Bean, Kohl's, Target, etc. And forest green shouldn't be a difficult color to find; I found it on almost every site I encountered.
A couple ideas you could try:
- Buy stick-on felt (or regular, whatever you can find) and trace/cut out letters that are the height you want. The adhesive isn't suited to being on a blanket, so sewing along the edges will probably be required.
- Buy scraps/remnants of fabric and cut out letters the same way. If you do this, you could stuff the letters like you would a quilt, making it puffy.
Do you know anyone who does screen printing on t-shirts? They might be able to do something similar for a blanket, and would know what to use on fleece fabric.
Good luck, and remember that making something homemade makes a gift even more personal :)

I'm 19 years old. Back in January I took the plan B pill because I had sex with this guy and he told me to take it because he would feel better if I did. After that my period obviously changed its pattern, and I began getting it the first thursday of every month instead of the second tuesday. I had sex with someone on April 15th and I know that I got my period after that I just can't remember exactly when becuase I was moving out of my apartment at school and everything was so busy, but I know I got it. I moved back in with my parents on May 4th and have been home ever since. I didn't get my period at all the first weekend of June like I thought I would. I had sex on Thursday of last week, the 2nd, and I still haven't gotten my period. I'm really really worried and I'm going to take a pregnancy test as soon as I can but is this pregnancy or is my cycle just messed up?
Pregnancy is possible whenever you have sex. Especially when it's unprotected. If you're less than a week late I'd try not to worry, because stress can make your period late.
You should also consider getting (and using) a more reliable form of birth control (assuming you aren't pregnant) such as the pill and/or condoms, since you're having sex.

I don't understand your question, or what you're trying to ask, but if you have a question about stitches you got, you should consult a doctor. Preferably the one who gave them to you.

My brother just said I was a slut because he saw the hickey on my neck.
I made out with this guy, he's one of my friends and I've liked him for over a year. We like each other and stuff but aren't dating, he's 19 though, which is why we aren't dating and are planning to wait.
Does it make me a slut for making out with him? It's not like I'm doing this with every random guy right?
Then my friend told me I wasn't a slut, I would have been if I had sex with him.
Does that mean if I had sex with him it would have made me a slut?
I know this isn't really a big deal but it kinda bothers me so I might as well get people's opinions on it.
You're not a slut. For starters, you didn't have sex with him. And you aren't having sex with other guys either. If you HAD had sex with him (as your friend said) as opposed to kissing and whatnot, the situation would be different. Your behavior could make you seem slutty, just because of how most people would judge that - not dating + having sex = easy/slutty.
I wouldn't worry about what your brother said. He was either being a jerk or just giving his opinion. Unless he knew the situation well, it could seem to him as though you make out with and get hickeys from ALL your friends.
Also, it's possible that people already think you're dating, in which case a hickey is nothing out of the ordinary. Just don't show them off. I always thought that was weird behavior.

Yes. But no I don't have butt pimples my boyfriend does I want to help him but idk how and I've searched goggle but i guess this is better. He's 17 we've been dating for a year and four months he has butt pimples and say they hurt him and I want to know is there any way to help him get ride of them fast and painless with out having to go to a dr or making feel weird ???? Please give answers fast :) thanks
Use a regular acne wash in the shower. There's washes made specially for the body, but any wash for your face will work fine. Spot treatments work too, just as on any other part of the body.

So, I'm 15, 5"4 and 140lbs.
I'm not really fat, but I'm definitely a little chubby. I want to work out, but I don't want my boobs to get smaller. I'm a 34C. If I work out and lose weight, are they going to get smaller?
Thanks.
It depends on the person. Some of my friends complained about losing weight there first. One friend lost 20lbs and it was all in her stomach. And this year I lost weight and GAINED a cup size. Most likely, anything you lose could most likely be regained through building up muscle, especially since you're not big at all to begin with.

I love dexter and i watched powerpuff girls on Boomerang from cartoon network! ^^ I love dexter's laboratory but don't know what time it comes on boomerang from cartoon network. SOS!! Dee dee needs help!
It probably varies by coverage area. Also, if your cable has an on-demand service, episodes may be on there too.

What camera do you recommend that meets these criteria:
-- compact and pocket-size
-- runs on rechargeable batteries
-- takes good pictures in any light
-- costs less than $100
I got this camera for my 18th birthday. At the time, it was $80 at Best Buy.
I think that exact model is discontinued now, because it's only available from third-party sellers. Samsung point and shoot cameras are wicked good, though. If you can find that exact camera (it came in pink and silver too, if I remember correctly) get it. It takes steady pictures easily, which is good because I have shaky hands.
I've had six digital cameras so far and absolutely hated Nikon. They make fantastic SLR and dSLR cameras; point and shoot, not so much. Canon is good too, but they're more expensive.
Test out the models in store and see what kind takes the kind of pictures you like and has features you want.

I'm getting this tattoo -
http://i56.tinypic.com/30nca2s.jpg
hopefully on my left wrist. It could be a small tattoo, like the size in the picture, or a bit bigger. Do you think it would look best if it fit my whole wrist or just on the left side, by my vein, kind of like the placing of this tattoo:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_StOtcgWBCp8/TU7sJnkAmmI/AAAAAAAAQbM/_fvCgGQL-h4/s640/Anchor+tattoo+wrist.jpg
Thank you!
I think it would look better centered. The anchor one, in my opinion, looks like it's there by accident, haha.
I think the ideal size for such a tattoo would be small enough that it would be hidden if you were to place your arm on a tabletop, palms down. Know what I mean? Just large enough to cover the whole underside of your wrist, but not extending to the sides of your arm at all :)
Also, the design looks interesting to me, but also kind of computerized/squarish. Definitely customize it a little/make it not squarish. Right now, it looks to me as if it's filling the shape of a rhombus. Besides that, it's nice!
Side note, if you're ever planning on getting a job at Disney World, wrist tattoos aren't allowed (at least in the culinary areas). Just a heads up :P

I am 5'5'' and weigh 121, but I used to weigh 118 back in January. I ate badly/drank a lot one night and gained two pounds. Ever since then I haven't really been able to keep my weight down. I do not eat terribly, but I will sometimes binge on days and eat a lot for one day. I typically keep my caloric intake under 1,600 calories and work out at the gym 6 days a week for atleast 1 1/2 hours, with 1 hour of cardio and 30 minutes of weights. My question is, how did I gain weight so quickly, and why am I not losing weight? Ironically, I started working out a lot in January as well (going to the gym 6 days a week)and it's so frustrating that I've gained weight. I feel like such a fat ass and just want to get back to 118.
Adding on to the advice you've already gotten, don't forget that muscle is denser than fat. So, since you've been working out quite frequently since January, you've probably improved your muscle tone. If you've stayed the same size (clothes-wise) but been working out, it's possible that you have more muscle now. Don't worry so much about small fluctuations, always weigh yourself in the morning, and try not to be discouraged if you hit a plateau. You're already at a perfectly fine weight, so focus more on your endurance at the gym and how you feel :)
