Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

i want to dye my hair out of a box as opposed to getting it done professionally. is this a bad idea?

If you're doing it YOURSELF for the first time, then YES! If there will be someone with you to help you that has dyed they're own or someone elses hair before then it's an okay idea. If you can afford to get it done proffesionally then that's what I'd do. If not then make sure someone is there to help you that knows what they're doing.

I know that being religious is good and stuff but my mom is forcing me to do communion. But she isnt forcing my older sister! It makes me so mad that i have no choice and she does. I am the middle child so i usually get treated like this. I want it to be my decision if i want to do communion or not becuz i dont like feeling that im forced to do something. Plus our family never goes to church so it doesnt make any sense. She is gonna sign me up next year to go ther on monday nights but im gonna be in ninth grade and it will probably interfere with school and i wont be able to get my hw done. Can someone please help me get my mom to her senses?

Aren't you a little old to be making your first communion? I mean I made mine when I was like 7 or 8. There's something else (I can't think of what it's called) that you used to have to have to get married that you do at this age. And that you go to every Monday or Wednesday night. You don't need it any more to get married so I decided not to get it.

But anyway, all you can really do is talk to your mom. Tell her that even though you think religious is good that you don't want to be forced to believe or do stuff for any certain religion (if that made sense)

is it possible to gain breast tissue through pills or creams

Not that I know of, but if you get certain shots your boobs will grow either faster, or they'll just get bigger. I know 'cause a girl at my school get's shots to make her taller and to make her breasts grow.

Well I have a party on Friday and it is a pool party.. but I am also just starting my period... I know I can use a tampon.. but I am afraid it will leak.. will it? and should I use it?

Wear the tampon. You can't go swimmin with a pad. And I acutally heard from someone who said their health teacher said this (though I'm not so sure if I believe them) that you can't bleed when you're in water. It might just mean like if you're in the bath tub or something like that. I'm not completely positive because I didn't hear it straight from the teacher.

But anyway, who's house is it at? If it's yours then just to be even more careful go inside and change it every 3 hours instead of 4-6. It shouldn't leak, but I guess there' always that chance.
If it's not at your house bring a LOT of backup (maybe 5 extras), a pad or two, and some extra clothes and an extra bathing suit. That way if it leaks and it leaks through your bathing suit, then you can change and go back to the party, or change into clothes and just sit and watch everyone and then you can use a pad and not risk as much of a leak.

My heels on my feet are seriously cracked and dry. Its disgusting. How can I make my feet smooth for summer? Are there any lotions/treatmants you recommend?

You can get a petticure, they usually take of all or as much of the dry dead skin. Then to make sure it doesn't come back, you can exfoliate by rubbing sand all over your feel (like beach sand.) Me and a friend were up at a local park just rubbing sand on our arms and hands. It makes them really smoothe and it's a good easy and cheap way to exfoliate. Then you can rub body lotion on them.

hey my friends birthday is coming up and she is having a garden party. but i dont know what to wear. nothign to fancy as she has a bouncy caslte coming for her cousins but i know me and my mates will go on it.so i have no idea what to wear or what to do with my hair!any ideas thank you so much! ill rate every answer that i get!

A Garden party... yeah I don't really know all about those. But for any party where you want to not be fancy but look good, I can help you there.

I would suggest a cute skirt like a nice blue or white one, but you said you'll be on a bouncy thing so that probably isn't a good idea.

How about capris with a cute shirt. Like denim capris with a baby blue shirt. Or denim capris with a white shirt and a jacket. Or any kind of capris and a cute shirt to match.

For hair you can straighten it and leave it down. You can curl it and put it in a ponytail. Or you can curl it and leave it down. Or you can put it in a messy bun. Those are usually pretty good looking.

When should girls start to wear tampons?

You can wear them anytime from when you start until years afterwords. I probably won't start wearing them until this summer so I can go swimming and stuff mainly because you have to change them every few hours, unlike pads which can last the whole day (if you're flow isn't that heavy) I haven't tried them yet, but in the next month or so I probably will. So girls can where them whenever they want. It doesn't matter. Anytime after you've gotten your "special friend" go ahead and try them

I'm obviously not a guy, but I have conversations with guys. Some are like you say, and others I have some of my favorite conversations with ha ha. It really truly all depends on the guy. Is he more talkative in person? Or is he actually kind of like that in person too? Maybe he just can't think of anything to say. That's all I really have to say to this. Hope you get an answer that better suits the question.

okay..im ending my freshman year. I realized theres one thing i know i could do for the rest of my life, thats play basketball. Now theres a real problem which is im only 5'4 and i dought ill get to much taller maybe 5'7 5'8 IF im lucky. Well this summer im gunna train for ball but STAY on JV so I can be with the same coach. Im talkin bout followin a strict diet all of that.

Do you just think im wastin my time? I mean I do live in a small town where hardly anyone gets noticed and i do have a height disadvantage.

Your height doesn't matter. I mean if you have the skill then play. Basketball is like ( in my opinion) the best sport, it's one of my favorites. If you have the skill, and you have the love for the game, then why not try your hardest, and why not do all you can to make it all the way. If and when scouts come to your school usually they come to watch someone they've heard a lot about. But they won't just be watching that person. They might come for one person, but leave wanting another. It all depends.
I mean you should ALWAYS have a back up plan just in case basketball doesn't work out for you professionally. Like keep your grades up so you can get into college, maybe even try playing some college ball. It doesn't matter where you live. Scouts come and go. It just matters that you love the game, you can play the game, and you WANT to play the game.
I don't want to get your hopes up because I've never seen you play. I LOVE basketball, but I know I don't have the skill to make it big since I've only really liked it for the last 2 years now. I'm the same age as you and I'd loooooove to play basketball for the school and stuff like that, but I don't have the skill and I wish I did. You're lucky to be good enough for a school team. And truly height doesn't matter. I mean unless you're taking the jump shot or something like that. Or if you're trying to goal tend which isn't even allowed... I'm only 5'2 but I'm pretty good, in my opinion I'm not good enough for a school team though because I can't follow plays and all that stuff, I just play the game. But if you have the skill USE it. If it doesn't work out then make sure you have a back up plan for college and all that. Maybe when you're older you can work as a p.e teacher and coach the basketball team(s) there. Who knows what'll happen. All you can do is dream, and hope the dreams come true.

well i did community service last week with my friend and a bunch of kids from my school, and we had to serve food and stuff to the senior citizens. i got assigned table 1 and so did josh

Well I've never seen how he acts around you or anything, I only have your information to go by. So technically I really have no clue if he likes you, or if he's just flirty. But it's possible he likes you. Do the two of you have the same lunch or anything? Do you two ever have a chance to talk at school? If so ask him to a movie, but maybe start out with you, 2 other girls, and 2 other guys. Or 5-6 girls and 4-5 guys or something like that. Then just go see a funny movie or go hang at the mall and just chill and have fun. Or if you really want to just IM him one day when he's on. Ask him what's up, how is he, and all that stuff. Then ask him if he's doing anything over the weekend or something like that. If he doesn't have any plans ask him if he wants to hang at the mall or see a movie.

I'm not completely sure how he feels because I don't know either of you. But just act like yourself and then casually ask him to do something whether it be the two of you or a group of people.

You've had physicals before haven't you? It's the same thing just the doctor has to fill out the form saying that you're healthy and then sign it. A sports physical is usually no different than a regular physical. If you need shots they give them to you, they regularly check to see if you're healthy, now they check to see if you're healthy enough to play a sport. (and yes I'm considering cheerleading a sport)
Plus a doctor can't tell if you're a virgin or not. That's almost impossible. Yes they can tell if you're hymen broke (but doctors don't usually do that, that's part of an ob/gyn's job) Besides, a hymen can break from using a tampon, from riding your bike, from jogging around the neighborhood, and even from cheerleading.

If in the rare chance they found out you weren't a virgin, then yes, most doctors would inform your parents, though not every doctor would. What are you doing having sex at such a young age anyway? Be safe, use condoms and if possible birth control!!

Well this is so random but my dad is my soccer coach and when ever we are at practice and i say daddy he says i am not gunna respond to that call me coach.. and i get really sad

No offense and not to sound harsh, but so what? I mean it's soccer, and he probably doesn't want to seem as if he goes easy when it comes to you. He probably wants to treat you (and vice versa) the same as everyone else. But if you're really upset about it, then talk to him. Ask him why you can't call him daddy. Me personally, and I've played soccer for years (but never with a parent as MY coach) and a lot of coaches had their child on the team and the coach treated them as one of us. He didn't make them any specialer. They were usually actually a bit tougher since it was their kid. But seriously just so I don't sound mean, and so I actually answer your question, talk to him if it's that big of a deal to you and ask his reasons.
