okay..im ending my freshman year. I realized theres one thing i know i could do for the rest of my life, thats play basketball. Now theres a real problem which is im only 5'4 and i dought ill get to much taller maybe 5'7 5'8 IF im lucky. Well this summer im gunna train for ball but STAY on JV so I can be with the same coach. Im talkin bout followin a strict diet all of that.
Do you just think im wastin my time? I mean I do live in a small town where hardly anyone gets noticed and i do have a height disadvantage.

Havent you taken roll of the B-ball players lately? Or anyother sport? Please, the negros are the only ones ruling the court. [ shake's advice column | Ask shake A Question ]

XxKaTiExLeIgHxX answered Tuesday April 26 2005, 6:05 pm: No...never let go of your dreams. If you love it then why stop and put your self down and make your self doing something that your not really intrested in. so maybe you dont make it in the big leagues but you can always become a basketball coach. Just try your hardest and keep working towards your goals. youll get there. dont worry about your hight you dont have to be tall to be good. just practice. hope i helped. karenR answered Tuesday April 26 2005, 12:29 pm: I think if it's something you love to do then give it your best shot. Stranger things have happened than a shorter than average (for a BB player) person playing. If you're good your height won't matter one bit. Good luck :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

S_C answered Tuesday April 26 2005, 6:28 am: Your height doesn't matter. I mean if you have the skill then play. Basketball is like ( in my opinion) the best sport, it's one of my favorites. If you have the skill, and you have the love for the game, then why not try your hardest, and why not do all you can to make it all the way. If and when scouts come to your school usually they come to watch someone they've heard a lot about. But they won't just be watching that person. They might come for one person, but leave wanting another. It all depends.
I mean you should ALWAYS have a back up plan just in case basketball doesn't work out for you professionally. Like keep your grades up so you can get into college, maybe even try playing some college ball. It doesn't matter where you live. Scouts come and go. It just matters that you love the game, you can play the game, and you WANT to play the game.
I don't want to get your hopes up because I've never seen you play. I LOVE basketball, but I know I don't have the skill to make it big since I've only really liked it for the last 2 years now. I'm the same age as you and I'd loooooove to play basketball for the school and stuff like that, but I don't have the skill and I wish I did. You're lucky to be good enough for a school team. And truly height doesn't matter. I mean unless you're taking the jump shot or something like that. Or if you're trying to goal tend which isn't even allowed... I'm only 5'2 but I'm pretty good, in my opinion I'm not good enough for a school team though because I can't follow plays and all that stuff, I just play the game. But if you have the skill USE it. If it doesn't work out then make sure you have a back up plan for college and all that. Maybe when you're older you can work as a p.e teacher and coach the basketball team(s) there. Who knows what'll happen. All you can do is dream, and hope the dreams come true.
Good luck. Have fun! <3 always, Kate [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
gabi answered Tuesday April 26 2005, 1:58 am: Do you love Basketball? If you really do then pursue it, dont let your height get in the way of things that you really want to achieve. Just keep on trying and one day if its really what you want to do then just go out and do it. [ gabi's advice column | Ask gabi A Question ]
