Nah, as long as you follow directions and do it correctly.

I did my highlights out of a box and they turned out great, everyone asked me where I got them done. (I used Colour Rays, blonde)

It's fun too. :-P

depending on what color your hair is now--maybe-- if your like blonde or somethin dont do it yourslef-- or if your going blonde dont do it yourslef!! i kno from experience and it sucks-- my hair has turned orange from dying it from brown to blonde- adn red from dying it form blonde to brown and now im stuck with like auburn colored hair- but if you like brown hiar and you wanna go a shade or 2 lighter or darker than do it at home...

No... it's not a "bad idea", at all. HoweveR, in my opinion, I think it'd be wiseR of you to simply invest moRe money foR a betteR quality job peRfoRmed by a pRofessional. If you choose to have it done at a salon, make shoRe to call aRound to spot the best deal. Goodluck deciding! =D

I've always heard that if your hair is light brown or lighter, do it yourself. But if it's auburn, brown, or black, you should have it done professionally.

If you're doing it YOURSELF for the first time, then YES! If there will be someone with you to help you that has dyed they're own or someone elses hair before then it's an okay idea. If you can afford to get it done proffesionally then that's what I'd do. If not then make sure someone is there to help you that knows what they're doing.

orphans answered Friday April 29 2005, 12:54 pm:
Well you will probaly screw up since half the people who do that have a screwed up hair color so to answer your question yes it is a very bad idea unless u want a screwed up hair color then if thats the case go for it have screwed up hair and you will leave it in 2 long and it will make your hair fall out so again i say dont do yourself do it professianaly!!

xOtWiXi answered Friday April 29 2005, 12:41 pm:
Well, it's not a bad idea, however, getting it done professionally is a more sure way of it coming out exactly as you want it. If you get it done from the box, you have to worry about color, basically lol. But, you do save a lot of money by the box, and there's really not much of a difference at all, just follow the instructions precisdely - Hope I've Helped ♥

mysticpixie05 answered Friday April 29 2005, 11:29 am:
no. its a lot cheaper that way. as long as you follow the instructions and make sure you cover your whole head with it then it will be fine.

selectopaque answered Friday April 29 2005, 11:11 am:
I've been dying my hair since I was around 15 or 16 (6-7 years). I have almost always dyed it myself and had no problems. The only time I did get it done professionally, is the only time I've had problems with color/texture/fading. I also have very dark, blackish brown hair, so don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it if you have dark hair.

I have often found that colors come out brighter when you have dark hair, compared to when you have blond.

Anyway, for a first timer, you should definately have someone help you out. It can be a little tricky to get the color evenly saturated throughout your hair, especially in the back. If your really worried, you might want to do the allergy test also. I've never bothered to do it, but the box always says to do it.

Karen answered Friday April 29 2005, 7:07 am:
It depends on what color you want to dye it. Dying your hair from those hair dye boxes isn't really a bad idea but the color doesn't exactly come out the way you want it to at times and I've tried most brands for hair dyes and the color fades away quickly. Don't do it; even though you save a lot of money dying your hair yourself, you could go to hair salon and get it dyed professionally that comes out better. Do what you want to do.

No but if I were you I wouldn't go drastc like from dark to blonde as it won't work Try a subtle colour first and even though you don't think it will make a difference I promise you it will. Get a friend to help you too so she can see you are getting the dye in the reight places and not missing in any bits! Loreal is good. Highlights also make a big difference and sometimes look better that dying your whole head one colour

Depends how drastic of a change you're looking for but generally no it's not. I dye my own hair all the time whenever I want a change! Turns out great! :) Good luck.

karenR answered Friday April 29 2005, 2:29 am:
I always have, it took awhile to get the right color though. It depends on how fussy you are about it I guess. If you're willing to maybe get it to dark or to light then go for it. Otherwise if you want perfection go to a salon. It is easy to do though. Now that I have really confused you...good luck with it! :)

It's not a bad idea, but it's not the best idea either. The box is cheaper, but it may not look as good, wheil pro. is expencive but really looks good. It's really your call personally I wouldn't die my hair at all natural is better. Do what you think is best, you don't worry about ratting me
