Is dance a sport? Now I don't need your opinions I need the facts, the proof that dance is or is not a sport, becuase I don't think it is, but I need to find out. Thanks
Ok, I have been reading so many definitions of the word "sport" its making my head spin. Fundamentally there does not seem to be any agreement on this in the english language.
I remember on Eurosport they kept referring to chess as a "sport". Now I hear them refer to poker as one too. Both of those do not fit in with common perception of sport, which requires physical activity. However, there is one school that looks at sport purely from a competitive point of view (competition seems to be the most common criteria in definitions, but does not appear in all of them). Others define it as a "recreational activity" (thats one definition in Websters dictionary).
So... I would say that dance is definately a sport by any definition when done in dance competitions. However, it is uncertain if its a sport when done otherwise. Depending on which definition you choose it both is and isn't.
If you practice dancing in order to compete I suppose you might look upon it the same way as a soccer player practices for the next season.
Anyways, for competition definately yes, otherwise it depends. One thing is certain, english speakers around the world need to get their heads together and find a better definition for sport.
I just started working out last week , and every time after i work out, I have these semi-bad headahces that usually last the rest of the night. Does anyone know what this could be??
Thats what I was thinking too (dehydration). Another idea would be to check your blood pressure. High blood pressure could give you headaches.
im not into pot but my friends are and when they talk about it i just nod and smile! i just want to know clearly what the difference between bongs and cones is.
thanks!
Cones as far as I gather refer to joints. I live in Denmark so I am not up to date on all the US slang and such, but after a little research I am pretty sure that what it means. A bong on the other hand is a device that passes the smoke through water to cool it before it is inhaled. It has a tube you suck from, connected to a jar like structure with water in it and, on the other side, there is a hole to place the pot in. I presume you know what joints are, but just in case, they look like rolled ciggerettes only typically much wider at the top (the end you light), giving it a cone shape. Here is a forum where people share pictures of bongs:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/666047
Anyhow there are a number of differences with smoking pot with one or the other (and I speak from personal experience from my misguided youth).
First of all, you can inhale more smoke with a bong than with any other device I have ever heard of. Because the smoke is cool you can fill your lungs like crazy. I never found it a pleasant experience, but it gives you most bang for your buck by far. Bong smoking is usually more intense (similar perhaps to taking shots of vodka rather than drinking beer). You put in a bong head and then take a few long intoxcating breaths. There is one problem with bongs and that is the possibility of getting water in your lungs. Bong smokers often have a nastier, slimier cough than other pot smokers and that is (persumed to be) because water vapour mixes with the smoke and condenses in your lungs.
Joint smoking is a much milder exeperience. Typically, it is smoked just like people smoke cigarretes just with slightly deeper breaths and longer pauses between the time they inhale. Thats one reason it is easily passed around (hence the expression "dont Bogart that joint my friend").
Well thats all I can think of. I would like to add one thing on pot smoking. Typically information on it tends to vary from standard American drug policy (dont touch it, you will eventually die/ go mad/ explode) and the pot smoker- and often also northern European- philosophy (do it all you want, its utterly harmless). This isnt what you asked so I wont elaborate, all I wanted to say was that the truth, in my experience, is somewhere in between.
Well, hope this was of some use to you.
My calves are huge and i hate it, theres nothing i can do to make them smaller or go away because a)ive tried and b)theyre hereditary.
BUT my thighs are kinda muscular (and i love them like that) and i want them to be waay more muscular
So what im wondering is:
Is there any way i can make my calves MUCH more smaller?
Do guys like girls with msucular thighs?
Do guys think girls are uglier with disgustingly big calves?
I'm very self concious and would like to know. Thanx!
As far as the calves go, I dont think most guys would really even notice (or care). I also think the majority of guys would like the muscular things. Of course, much like the answer below pointed out, it does vary quite a bit from guy to guy.
As for shrinking them, other than not using them (which is admitedly pretty difficult) I cant think of any way to make your muscles smaller. However, I wouldnt worry about it if I were you. I really dont think they will ever pose any problems in your life.
do guys like if a girl has her belly botton peirced? why or why not
I personally dont like it much. First off it makes the girl look cheap in my opinion. Secondly it looks wrong and painful to me. I realise it no longer hurts or anything, but perforating holes in ones body I relate to personal injury ("hey honey look I have grenade shrapnel in my skull... isnt it sexy?").
Lol I realise I am not normal in my views on this subject...
What causes guys to get boners? What are they thinking about also? (obviously sex but like what else?)
Depends on a few things: his age, his libido, and how long its been since he last ejaculated.
Until the end of the teenage years it is utterly random. Absolutely nothing can cause them, and it can happen often too.
The older you get, the more recently you climaxed etc. the more it takes to get one. By this, I mean the more sexual stimulation (mental or physical) you require.
I personally disagree that guys think about sex most of the time. Personally I think women made that one up. Guys might check girls out or whatever, but the conscious thought of sex is not a neccessity.
Anyway, to conclude, if its a teen then likely he could be thinking about the latest tax reforms suggested by congress. If its an adult, its probably (not always) some form of sexual thought.
This guy that I really like in my senior class has been dating this girl who behind his back makes fun of him. He is so in love with her, he'll buy her a dozen roses for no occasion and bring them to school for her. I also heard he spent hundreds of dollars on a bracelet for her birthday. I know what she's been saying behind his back because she's in my french class. The other girls wanted to see her new bracelet and she just rolled her eyes and said "this is the THIRD one he's bought me"!. She is such a superficial bitch. She's also said she's only with him because his family has money. She's also a bigot, I've heard her making derogatory comments about homosexuals and african americans. I also heard she's cheating on him. I don't know what he sees in her. She is very popular and pretty, but has the personality and kindness of a dead squid. He would be heartbroken if he knew what she said about him and did behind his back. He is such a nice guy, I feel sorry for him. Should I tell him or just keep my mouth shut? Or, before I forget, HIS friends make fun of him behind his back for how hard he's fallen for her.
Not saying anything would be playing it safe. I can see why people would advise you to do it that way, it would certainly keep your friendship/relationship (Im not sure how close u two are) intact.
That being said, I dont agree with that line of reasoning. I tend rather towards Thief's answer. If you two were friends I would say it was your duty to say something. If you arent friends you should proceed more carefully.
First off (again like suggested below) can you get some sort of proof? I love the idea of recording her. She cant weasel her way out of that one.
Secondly, have you considered talking to his close friends first. Tell them what you know, get them to help you both to find proof and to approach him afterwards. Clearly they are not happy with the situation so I dont think it would be too hard to persuade them to help. If they are close they can have a lot of influence.
Anyways, to wrap it up, you arent under any obligation to do anything. You should know that by interfering you risk alienating him perhaps forever. All that being said, I wouldnt stay quiet if I were in your shoes. Good luck.
hi,
I am 26 year old female from Texas, USA, My current weight is 145 pounds,I want to loose 15 pounds by march end for my brothers marriage?
I am vegetarian and stopped eating fatty and junk food since 2 months. Still I am not able to loose weight inspite of doing 2 times hworkout in a week.
please advice me how should i achive my target weight which is 135 by march end?
thanks
Hema
It would have been helpful to know what kind of workout you did.
The bottom line to losing weight is to burn more energy than you consume. This means you are either- eating too much (alternatively exercising too little) and/or have "wrong" eating habits.
By wrong eating habits, I mean you might not be eating often enough for example. You really need to get into the habit of eating small meals frequently (4-6 times a day). This is important to boost your metabolism. Remember to drink plenty of water and not to overdo it on carbs (if you eat too many carbs, i.e. more than you burn, the body has no problem converting them to fat).
Now, as far as exercise goes it would be best to do it more often (whatever it is you do). The best thing you can do is to do weights at the gym. Unlike cardio workout they boost your metabolism like nothing else. Each pound of muscle you put on requires calories daily to upkeep. Weight training is really effective. Of course doing a cardio as well is even better...
Here is a link that will help you calculate the calories you burn every day. This together with the things I wrote above should help you get better results.

If you want more specific advice then drop a question in my inbox (and plz include info like what you eat, what exercise you do or wont do etc.).
Good luck.
Next year, I'm going to college, and I am freaking out =(. I'm worried that it will be really hard and that I won't be able to maintain a 3.0 GPA (the requirement to keep my great scholarship effective). So a few questions.
1. Is college really hard? How much time would you say do you have any free time (meaning not having to study, go to college, or work)?
2. Is maintaining a 3.0 possible? (not only possible, but probable?)
3. Are teachers/professors as understanding/nice as high school teachers, or are they "down to business and won't take any crap"? (lol)
Thank you!! Please add any other things that I should know (besides not partying hard and stuff like that..I know)
Nothing wrong with partying hard :)
I pretty much agree with the answers below, so I will just add a few points here and there. The one major difference to high school is the degree of freedom that you get. This gives you the opportunity to improve yourself or to screw up in ways you were not able to before.
At the beginning it can be a little intimidating. But very soon it becomes routine. I remember in hs writting say 10 pages or so in a project was a big deal. Very quickly that becomes something you can cough up in a very short period of time (all depending on the subject of course).
Fundamentally, the dumber you are the more you have to study. I couldnt have put that more crudely but thats the way it is. If you are exceptionally smart you can get through it without much effort while still maintaining a high average. You will soon figure out where you stand, but I seriously doubt you will have too much trouble if you are used to getting good grades now.
The degree of free time varies depending on what I wrote above and with how much you work. I personally found myself having loads of spare time (though its important to note I did not also hold a job at the time).
Anyways good luck, and dont worry about it so much I am sure you will do fine.
I was charging my phone up tonight and I accidently knocked it off from my TV stand into a glass of coke on the floor. I immediatly grabbed it and wiped all the coke off and took out the battery and all that. it lights up but there are no words or sounds. I got this phone about 4 months ago and its a Spring LG. Is my phone completly fried and I need to get a new one or can i fix this?
Well from my experience of dropping liquids on electrical appliances, you need to let it dry for quite a while. I cant say anything about mobiles (I am an expert on ruining keyboards personally), but I dont think you should have turned it on so soon. That could have caused enough damage to destroy it if the initial plunge didnt.
Either way, if I were you I would let it rest for a few days and try again. One of my friends spilled coke inside an open computer cabinet once. First time we turned it on we got all sorts of strange stuff happening, then we let it rest for a few days and the computer worked perfectly.
I read that if you eat breakfast everyday you will lose weight, is this true? If so, then how can I start eating breakfast without gaining weight because I have not been eating breakfast for a few years? This is so confusing! Please explain and help. Thank you so much.
All the answers below that talked of the effects on the metabolism are correct. Of course it does not guarentee weight loss, its just one component that will help in the process. What you eat, how much you eat and your activity level are totally key.
The thing is that, in general, its not good to skip meals. Your metabolism will work faster and better if you eat many small meals every day. It tells the body there is plenty of food, while skipping meals pushes the body towards trying to store as much energy as possible. Of course, breakfast is particularly important because you havent eaten anything for many hours.
Is 110 pounds for a person who is 5'4" to little or to much
It really does sound a bit underweight to me, but there isnt enough information here. Being over or under weight depends on the following factors:
Build type (shoulder width etc matters a lot), how muscular you are (muscle is heavier), and your sex.
Ok well valentines day is coming up and i hate it. Cause it's always the time you find out nobody likes me and well i'm not ugly like i can show u a pic but i feel soo freakin ugly and unwanted when i don't get asked out or even asked to dance. So my friend told me to ask them. Do guys like it when girls ask them to dance? Or do they thinks is weird and depret? (sorry if i spelled that wrong lol)
Let me tell you many many guys wish that girls would take the first step a bit more often (at least thats the way it was back when I was in school). Not neccessarily because they are incompetent or anything, more because it relieves some of the pressure (and fear of rejection).
The thing is, in my (humble) opinion the world would be a more efficient place if girls took the first step more often. Since many guys are not really very good at reading signals, and certainly dont work well with hints, you tend to see a lot of guesswork when it comes to dating. The most succesful guys I have seen in my life have always been the ones that had no sense of embarassment and took the machine gun approach to asking women out.
The girl making the first move might intimidate some guys, but I think overall most of us would be thrilled at finally having things the way we like them... obvious and apparent.
Ok if you really like someone, but they're going out with someone else but you know they like you, would it be stupid to wait for them? I really need to know what you guys think about that. Thank you so much!

I agree 100% with younggrandma. One thing you could do is to confront that person and get a straight answer. He (I am assuming its a guy)might have strong feelings for his current gf too, or he might not know how serious you are etc. Either way, dont hang around too long, he owes it to both of you to make up his mind quickly on this.
hey i wanna lose 20 lbs by summer (about 4 lbs a month.) So what should i do to lose 4 lbs. by the end of feburary.

The no carb diet sends shivers down my spine. I believe the idea behind it is that it is very difficult to burn fats and protein (as opposed to carbs) and your body uses energy in doing so.
The problem with it is that you end up eating lots of saturated fats which are bad for you, lots of cholesterol (ditto), and overall you arent getting the proper nutrition your body needs. Perhaps most importantly it is not a viable long term nutrition plan and that is absolutely key in keeping the weight off. One of my close friends lost lots of weight with it. Then he regained it. Then he lost it again. All in all he "lost" weight 3 times in his life, and he is fat again now.
Anyway, if you want to lose weight, be healthy and look great, I recommend first and foremost to join a gym. Doing weights will do wonders to your metabolism (which aerobic exercise does not do). Naturally if you can do a cardio once in a while thats even better.
Then eat many small meals each day (4 to 6), as this too will help boost your metabolism.
Eat balanced meals, low on fats (particularly saturated- eg. from butter, cheap oils, fatty meats, cream etc), moderate on carbs, moderate to high on protein and high on greens. Stay away from empty calories, primarily from foods that contain lots of sugar, junk food etc. Also remember to drink plenty of water. Time your last meal to be a few hours before you go to bed.
Below I have put a link to a site where you can calculate your calorie usage.
http://www.internetfitness.com/calculators/bmr.htm
Figure out how much you burn depending upon your activity level each day and then aim to eat about 400 cals below that number. Dont starve yourself as this will have an adverse effect on the metabolism.
You actually dont need to do anything extreme. If you just increase your activity level (play a sport if you absolutely hate going to the gym) and get a bit of discipline in your diet the weight will come off without much effort.
ok. i feel really stupid but, what is a noob? a lot of my friends say it on the computer and i'll feel really dumb if i ask. thanks :P
Its really a very mean word in the gaming world. A combination of rookie and retard if you like. Sometimes they mean it closer to one, sometimes closer to the other. Ugh I hate when people use that word... I wonder how they ever expect new people to start playing?
I dont know what game you are playing (I am a counterstrike player myself), but when someone starts throwing that word around its extra pleasurable to make an example of them hehe :)
My mom has been smoking for a long time now. She smokes a pack a day and i want her to stop so she wont get cancer or anything. She says its really hard to stop and she already tried one of those stop smoking programs. How do i make her stop?
I agree with both the answers below. As an ex-smoker I can say that it is almost impossible for a non smoker to even begin to understand how difficult it is to quit. Cigarrettes are adictive on so many different levels, and the brain links them to specific events in the day making it really hard to resist (e.g. after eating; hanging with specific people; out at a bar; etc).
So definately dont nag, it does not generate the needed level of willpower. I dont know which smoking program she tried, but my mother quit using the patches. Of course they only work on some people.
If you do convince her to try, help her set some goals. Typically the really really bad urges will last about a month (give or take). That at least gives her a target to shoot for, and if she makes it that far she probably wont start again.
When I quit I had a pocket full of lolipops everywhere I went. Cant say that they did wonders, but at least it kept my hands and mouth busy.
Thats actually your most important role if she does try to quit. Help her keep her mind off it and keep her as stress-less as possible for at least a couple of weeks.
Good luck.
Help! My thighs are huge! I think the rest of my body is great except for my fat thighs. what can i do to make them smaller?
None of that stuff works. Biking, leg raises, squats, whatever, all of them build muscle. Training an area will in no way at all burn fat from there. Humans are unable to target fat loss through exercise. So, you can lose weight overall or not at all.
When you start to lose weight, your body will pull fat cells from all over, but the order and focus is not in our hands. So, eventually you will lose weight from your thighs as well.
The only reason people who bike might believe that it is helping to keep their thighs small is because the exercise is keeping them thin (overall). This is called superstitious learning- attributing a result to an action that happened to occur at the right time.
If you want to lose weight, you are far better off training your entire body. In the end its the calories you burn, either through direct exercise or through positively affecting your metabolism. That and of course proper nutrition. Im sorry if this wasnt what you wanted to hear, but its the truth. If you want any specific tips just drop a question in my inbox. Either way, good luck.
Alright, a question for the boys out there...
on deciding physically if a woman is attractive, what counts more; her body or her face?
I'll put it this way--would you rather have a girl who has this amazing beautiful face and an okay body--or a girl with an okay face but an amazing body?
kthnx
Given the choice between just those two I would take the okay face, amazing body.
Of course I agree with everyone else that looks arent everything etc etc etc.
my one friends slept over last night and my parents went out adn didn't coem back till one. So, we were really bored nd decided to listen to my dads old records. When we went into his closet.. omg. I thought i was going to die, I saw this DVD for porn. I thought it was a nightmare, it didn't seem liek reality to me and it still doesn't. My parents are the furthest thing from pornos. Now, it's the next day and I can't even look at them. What should I do?
It will pass. Really. Parents are normal people and, though we all tend to think of them otherwise, they have regular sexual urges.
You will just have to learn to accept that they have a private life that you shouldnt really know anything about.
Its hardly a big deal anyways so try not to let it bother you.
