My name is Jen, I go to school, and occasionally learn things. I love James Dean, Hanson, Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty, Fall Out Boy, Elton John and Billy Joel. These make me overly qualified to give advice ESPECIALLY since I spend the vast majority of my time watching and obsesing over Oprah.
I've been through some stuff, and watched even more drama on TV, so I can help with your problems, no matter what your story is Wishbone.

I don't think there's enough questions on advicenators that mention abortions. I assume there's more females on this site then males, so why does it seem like there are mainly pro-life supporters? We're women. Women with so many choices and laws that allow us those choices. I agree in having your own opinion, but never force it onto someone else. If someone is considering an abortion, why talk them out of it, bringing it up as a sin and disgusting? I'm proud to be pro-choice & you'd think nowadays more women would be. Why aren't you? (link)
|
while I am pro choice, that doesn't mean I believe every woman who gets pregnant by accident should have one.
I just want the option to have an abortion. I don't believe in abortion because of over population, or as a way to pick and choose the gender and characteristics of your child, it's an option. Being pro choice is about being able to make your own decisions- hence the word "choice". When someone has an unwanted pregnancy whether here or in real life, I will always talk to them about all the options I'm aware of. When you confront a problem, most people with a solid head on their shoulders don't just consider one solution there are two or more sides to every issue.

My brother just graduated from college and is now moving to California to go to post-graduate school. His party is this Saturday, and as his "gift", my sister and I are going to sing him a bunch of songs that we're going to mix together. We already have a few, but we need a lot more because we're planning to play a mini - movie of clips of us when we were younger.
If you guys have any song suggestions that would go with it, that'd be really great. It could be about going away or graduating, growing up, etc. Even songs about love if it goes well with what I'm doing this for.
Our songs so far are -
"More than Words" - Frankie J.
"Yesterday" - The Beatles
"In My Life" - The Beatles
"Without You" - Mariah Carey
"Time" - Chantel Kreviazuk
"Farewell To The old Me" - Dar Williams
"Wind Beneath My Wings" - Bette Midler
"Time To Say Goodbye" - Sarah Brightman
Any suggestions would be great. :]
PS - I think the Vitamin C song is too overplayed, so I've already rejected it.
(link)
|
this is also an overplayed graduation song, but how about Good Riddance/Time of Your Life by Greenday?
Others
When I Grow Up- The Beach Boys
Don't Forget To Remeber Me- Carrie Underwood
Changes- David Bowie
Soul Meets Body- Death Cab For Cutie
Homesick at Space Camp- Fall Out Boy
Champagne for my Real Friends, Real Pain for my Sham Friends- Fall Out Boy
I Go Back- Kenny Chesney
I Hope You Dance- Leeann Womack
Goodbye To You- Michelle Branch
Leaving on a Jet Plane- Peter, Paul and Mary
Can't Stand Losing You- The Police
Fast Cars and Freedom- Rascall Flats
Will You Remeber Me- Sarah McLauchlan
Old Friends- Simon and Garfunkle
Some Say- Sum 41
I Know I'm Losing You
If you guys watched a particular sitcom growing up (say Growing Pains) you might want to try one of the theme songs, if you've ever seen Full House, you know sitcoms rocked the sentimental music.

I want to get an Industrial piercing. Does anybody know how bad they hurt?
(please only answer is you actually know, don't assume)
Also, any websites with info on industrials?
I rate high. Thanks. (link)
|
While I haven't had an industrial done, I have had my cartiledge pierced and it was painful. The pain factor mainly comes from laying on your ear when you sleep, and partly because I have this weird habit of touching my ears when I talk or think.
http://www.bmezine.com has lots of helpful information about piercings, including reviews of artists around your area.

honestly, are there any serious side effects
with smoking marajuana?
like there is with heroine and acid etcetc.
thank you (link)
|
Rahzie's pretty right on, but one of the main problems with marijuana is that it can lead to harder drugs. That said, not everyone who smokes pot is going to move on to cocaine, but people who use pot on a regular basis might in search of a better high.

What's a good antidepressant I can buy off the counter with a prescription? (link)
|
like everyone else said you can't walk into the pharmacy and buy prozac like you buy tylenol.
That said St Johns Wort has been known to help with depression. However this isn't something you want to take without consulting a doctor, pharmacist or your parents, because "The Medicines Control Agency issued a warning on March 1st 2000 that patients who are on a long list of drugs should stop taking St John's wort until they have consulted their GP or pharmacist. Medications for asthma, epilepsy, depression, migraine and heart problems are all implicated" and "There have also been some reports from America that St John's wort can cause nerve damage or cataracts when combined with bright sunlight."

I am a female from Canada.
I am in a serious committed relationship with my bf and he does not know that I am bi-sexual. I have been considering telling him because of my re-occuring problems about fantasizing being in a relationship with a female.
I love my bf as well and we have a healthy relationship. I want to tell him because I don't feel right keeping secrets from him. We are very open to each other. Should I tell him? How should I put it so he won't feel threatened?
Advice please? (link)
|
I'm not sure how comfortable you would fould feel about this approach, but it's an option. Perhaps bring it up in terms of "what's your fantasy" at first. Get him to openly discuss his, and tell him how you'd like to be with a female. Then depending on his response, you can talk about it the next day in a more serious manner, regarding your sexual orientation. Because you first brought it up as a fantasy, it might be easier for him to feel more secure with your bisexuality because he knows you're not going to leave him for a girl.
Good luck with however you approach it.

i just now started going tanning and i really need a good lotion to wear in tanning beds. i rate high (link)
|
make sure you get a lotion made specificallyf or tanning beds, regular tanning lotions crack the tanning beds. The tanning salon usually sells them, or you can find them for cheaper at Walmart next to regular sunscreen.
I don't think brand really matters unless you have sensitive skin, but if you know of a sunscreen brand you favour go for that.

Im a girl[(duh)] And im 13.

Guy 1 gates me.
guy 2 is hurting me.
Guy 3 I dunno.
Guy 4 i dunno.
Erg i dunno what to do. (link)
|
Don't date any of them. You're only 13, and you're not positive about any of these guys. A guy you feel really strongly about will come along, and what if you're stuck in a relationship with one of these so-sos.
You've have plenty of time to worry about this later when guys are a little more mature, and will actually talk to you and show they like you.

how do u get rid of underarm odor with using the deodorant? (link)
|
if you're out of deodorant you can use baby powder. Or wash your armpits. But you're going to have to use deodorant if you want to avoid BO on a daily basis.

do you happen to know if its bad to have pot in your system (even if its been a while) when you get put under anesthesia? (link)
|
I don't know how long you mean by "a while" but you aren't supposed to have anything to eat or drink 12 hours before your surgery, and you are also advised not to smoke for the same amount of time. The same would go for smoking pot, I assume.

I have to do a play review for my drama class. I live in Toronto, Ontairo, Canada. I don't have a whole lot of money and the review is due at the beginning of June. Any sugesstions? Thanks in advance. I will rate high. (link)

Go to Stratford: http://www.stratford-festival.on.ca/
There's a direct Greyhound to Stratford
http://www.stratford-festival.on.ca/visitor/todirect.cfm
But that could be a little pricey.
Here are some other sites you can check out
http://www.ticketmaster.ca/browse?category=32&root=&rdc_select=n60&rdc_syear=&rdc_smonth=&rdc_sday=&rdc_eyear=&rdc_emonth=&rdc_eday=&dma=&start=1&rpp=31&type=selected
http://www.pathcom.com/~dbp98/city_events/Next_Month/Symphony/Theatre_2/theatre_2.html
Or check your local newspapers. The free ones at the bus stop probably have reviews for fairly cheap plays.

Can you get STDs from using a public bathroom? (link)
|
NO! STDs cannot live on a toliet seat, a door knob, or a faucet.
Think of it this way, can an inanimate object catch a cold? the flu? No. So why would they be able to catch an STD?

hey, i'm the person who asked about the Shakespeare thing. thanks for helping
but i have another question. what are the conflicts between Brutus vs. himself, and also Caesar vs. the Conspirators?
thank you so much :) (link)
|
I just have to warn you that it's been about four years since I've studied this play, so you'll have to fill in the details yourself.
Brutus vs himself- his loyalty and friendship to Caesar vs his own pride, ego, worries that Caesar as king will overthrow the republic.
I think the whole thing was the conspirators felt that Caesar was going to go nuts ruling Rome alone because before he killed Pompey Rome was ruled by a triumvirte. While Caesar didn't rule long enough for this to happen, the Conspirators killed him anyways. A good line to remeber when studying this play is "absolute power corrupts and power corrupts absolutely"

im reading julius caesar in english class and i have like no clue what's going on [well sort of, but still..it's really hard to understand lol] anyway for homework i have to answer these questions and it's really hard. soo. anybody who has read julius caesar.. do you know the literary device used in the line "most mighty gods" and also what type of literary device is "beware the ides of march" ? there is a lot of other questions that i don't understand either but hopefully i can find those online on cliffnotes or something :) but if you can answer those two i'd really appreciate it. thanks :) (link)
|
"Most mighty gods" is alliteration, there might be more in that line, but you the quote is a little to short for me to help.
"Beware the ides of march" is foreshadowing. If anything remeber this line, because it's important. The ides of March is March 15th.
It might help if you did a little research on Caesar's life, that way you know what to expect in the play. Just google him, tonnes will come up.
Sparksnotes is a good online Cliffsnotes http://search.sparknotes.com/?query=Julius+Caesar&x=0&y=0
If you have any other questions just send one to my inbox, I'm an English major, and this was one of my favourite Shakespeare plays to study.

Does anyone have any good ways to get yourself to fall asleep at night? Particularly at slumber parties?
Thanks to anyone who answers :) (link)
|
getting to sleep at night is easier if you have some kind of ritual before you fall asleep that way your body knows it's time to sleep. Some of the relaxation things people mentioned are good, but for other people it might just be the ritual of brushing Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, helps too.
If you know you're going to have trouble falling asleep at a sleep over, maybe sleep less the night before that way you're too tired to get anxious about sleeping away or in a room full of people. It's not the greatest idea, and you definitly shouldn't make a ritual of it.

do Remington's revolutionary new Wet2Straight straightners ruin your hair? UK (link)
|
while I don't know anything about this particular straightener, I do know any straighteners that you use on your hair while wet aren't good. I asked my hairdresser about it, and you're essentially burning your hair, and the moisture out of it. So even if you hair is really straight, you're more likely to have dry hair with breakage.
If you're in the market for a new straightener I'd go for a CHI or GHD, they're the best out there, work on the curliest hair, can also curl hair, and leaves your hair really silky.

My 5 month dog is trying to mount my 3 year old daughter, which is not exceptable. Should I neuter him now? I do believe it is more than just being a puppy. He is in the bully breed and I am very concerned about him knowing his place in our klan, and manners. (link)
|
We recently had our puppy neutered, but had to wait until he was 6 months old to do it. While it did calm him down humping wise, he still attempts it once in a while. Talk to your vet about when the appropriate time to have him neutered is, and perhaps she can suggest a training class where you can help curb this behaviour, or books you can check out.

Yesterday, my flow was pretty heavy, so this morning I put in a tampon and went off to school. It felt uncomfortable, and when I went to take it out, it hurt really bad then when it came out, it was almost completley white, with very little blood. It burned to take it out, and ever since then, I've felt sore down there.
Is there some wrong? (link)
|
there's nothing wrong, it just hurts because it was dry.
However, if you experience (and this is directly from the information sheet with my tampons) a sudden high fever, vomitting, diarrhea, sunburn like rash, dizziness, muscle aches or fainting, you may have toxic shock syndrome. It's really rare, though, so don't worry too much. 17/100,000 girls who use tampons get it a year, and it's treatable so don't stress.

I'm 16. My mom always tells me when to do my laundry, when to put it up, and when to clean my room, and quite frankly, I'm sick of it. She always says to me, "You're 16! You should know better than that!" and, "You're 16, you need to get a job!" Basically she uses my being 16 as a reason for me to grow up. Well I can't grow up when my mom won't stop yelling at me to put up my clean clothes when I can do it later. How is clean clothes in a basket in my room going to bother her, or anyone else for that matter?
Anyways, do you agree with me? What do I do? (link)
|
I think your mother yells at you because she knows if you don't put your clothes away when you get them, if you're anything like me, they're just going to end up on your floor.
You are sixteen, so you should be able to do your laundry and put it away without your mom urging you. Get to it before she has to yell. I know that's not an answer you want to hear, but you're on your way to adulthood, and your mom just wants to prepare you as best she can for when you don't have her around.
As for telling you to get a job or knowing better because you're sixteen, you should probably talk to your mother as calmly as possible about it. Tell her you understand that she wants to prepare you for the future, but if she has to nag you to do it, it's not helping either of you. Show her you do have incentive though, do your laundry without her, get your homework done, start a savings account, anything that shows you've matured.
