You should tell the doctor who is administering the anesthetic what street drug you took and how long ago. If it was say, a week ago, I would think you'd be safe, but if you were high yesterday, tell the doctor. Anesthetics are dangerous! An interaction with a street drug could be life-threatening. So be honest (there is really nothing they can do about you admitting to pot use, and most doctors would be grateful for your honesty. They really don’t want to kill you.) Notso answered Monday May 22 2006, 9:50 pm: I don't know how long you mean by "a while" but you aren't supposed to have anything to eat or drink 12 hours before your surgery, and you are also advised not to smoke for the same amount of time. The same would go for smoking pot, I assume. [ Notso's advice column | Ask Notso A Question ]
