5htp is a great one. you want to be REALLY carefull though, because it can have adverse interactions with just about any medication, especialyl mood altering ones.
dont take it for more than 2 weeks, or else your body will adjust to it, and it will stop working. you should probably see your doctor about it, but since you are asking about OTC i guess you are trying to avoid that. if you arent on any other medication, you can get it at your local grocery store.

like everyone else said you can't walk into the pharmacy and buy prozac like you buy tylenol.

That said St Johns Wort has been known to help with depression. However this isn't something you want to take without consulting a doctor, pharmacist or your parents, because "The Medicines Control Agency issued a warning on March 1st 2000 that patients who are on a long list of drugs should stop taking St John's wort until they have consulted their GP or pharmacist. Medications for asthma, epilepsy, depression, migraine and heart problems are all implicated" and "There have also been some reports from America that St John's wort can cause nerve damage or cataracts when combined with bright sunlight."

Not everyone's depression is the same, or caused by the same factors. That's why a physician should prescribe this medication. There is nothing over the counter that will help you, and I would avoid the herbal remedies unless you have an okay from your Dr.

MFS answered Tuesday May 23 2006, 10:22 pm:
You will not be able to find an antidepressant OTC. You will never find a mood-altering drug available OTC due to the amount of risks involved in taking them. The FDA would never approve such a drug.
