I just started working out last week , and every time after i work out, I have these semi-bad headahces that usually last the rest of the night. Does anyone know what this could be??

Good answers but it may also be hormonal. Especially since you have just introduced your body to exercise, the hormones in the endocrine system are going nuts. Hopefully it is just dehydration, but it could also come from your body producing a lot of insulin to suppress your blood sugar levels especially if you eat a meal before you train. If you eat before you workout then try not doing that and refraining from high processed sugars, if nothing happens then it is most likely dehydration.

My calves are huge and i hate it, theres nothing i can do to make them smaller or go away because a)ive tried and b)theyre hereditary.
BUT my thighs are kinda muscular (and i love them like that) and i want them to be waay more muscular

So what im wondering is:
Is there any way i can make my calves MUCH more smaller?
Do guys like girls with msucular thighs?
Do guys think girls are uglier with disgustingly big calves?

I'm very self concious and would like to know. Thanx!

1. Only if you don't use them at all. Now unless you can fly thats going to be pretty difficult.

2. Yes

3. All comes down to the guy, if he is that shallow to actually care about the size of a girl's calves then he is probably an asshole. I don't mind it at all personally and good leg muscles serve as an excellent support system for your body since the legs are the most powerful muscle group in the body.

Hi, i am trying to lose some weight. sorry if this sounds stupid but my stomach does not seem to have much extra fat, it just sticks out a lot. I dont know what to do. My thighs are wayy too muscular and short. is their any way i can get them "thinner"???

thanks so much!

I can almost guarantee your thighs are not over muscled from the sound of your experience level in regard to fitness, which is not a bad thing at all. The way to make anything thinner is by good diet, not treadmills or squats both of these either contribute to cardiovascular health or build muscle and do not make anything thinner. Get your diet as clean as it can possibly be and dont be afraid to take in calories...your body needs them anyway. Eat at least 4 times a day and use your logic regarding what to eat and what not to eat which I trust is something you can use your discretion on.

Does anyone know any really good myths? or any websites that have myths? i rate high. =]

Heres a good myth:

One night these parents left their little daughter unattended in the house for a little while. For protection, she had a dog that she loved. The girl tried to ease her fear by going to bed and having the dog lay by the side of her bed, she hung her hand down by the side and felt the dog lick her hand and felt safe. Anyway she woke up only a little while later to go to the bathroom and when she turned the lights on she found the dog laying dead in her bathroom and on the wall written with the dog's blood was "Humans lick too". I always liked that one...Google urban legends and myths and you'll come up with a whole bunch of good ones.

15/F

I know everyone is probably getting annoyed with all these fitness questions, but I need help.

If I do the bysical(sp) for 1 hour everday or 3 times a week, watch the calories I eat, & just stop eating sugar foods, will that be good enough to lose weight?? I`m not going to eat any junk food or anything sugar & just stick to juice & water. Do you think this is a good start?

If you guys want to add something more, be my guest. =) Thanks

Let me steer you in the right direction here:

100 calorie packs are garbage
Water does nothing to flush fat away

Those are just 2 main points.

I've always found that the people I train enjoy the bicycle more than running or anything other form of cardiovascular exercise. Its very easy to just plop a magazine down and keep pedaling. Do I recommend you just cycle for a straight hour? No. I recommend you do HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) instead of 1 hour at a steady pace you break down your routine into these intervals. Here's an example of one interval- You warm up on the bike for 5 minutes and then you immediately pedal as fast as you possibly can for 30 seconds and then pedal at a slower tempo for 45 seconds. This is one interval...try and work yourself up to at least 10-15 intervals (Not as easy as it may sound.) Don't forget to throw in weight training exercises at least 3 days a week...weights and cardio go hand in hand.

Iam glad you mentioned your diet plan. This is what makes or breaks you. You mention having no sugar and sticking to water and juice. Guess what? juice is just pure sugar so stay away from it. Water doesn't "Flush fat away" as fat cannot be flushed away but only burned with metabolizing calories. People think fat flushes fat away because you tend to feel tighter when you drink more water...thats only because water serves as the transport to get the excess subcanteous salty fluids out from beneath your skin which make you appear bloated. I cannot stress to you how important water is, its like gold and is very rarely seen as the vital nutrient that it is. Good on staying away from snacks this INCLUDES 100 calorie packs, honestly do you really think Nabisco is capable of making anything healthy after making Oreos for so long? Eat Eat Eat...at least 4 times a day with plenty of lean protein and a variety of simple (things such as fruits) and complex (pasta, potatoes, oatmeal) carbs and healthy (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated) fats. As an added insurance policy you should get yourself a multivitamin, and they make 1 month supplies for women with the iron tablet separate from the vitamins for more concentrated use during their meunstral cycles.

All in all...it takes a little bit of knowledge and a whole lot of dedication, it isnt rocket science but it also isnt a cake walk. Make it a part of you because there is no greater gift to give yourself than the gift of health.

if i run and walk on a treadmill for about 20-30 minutes each day.. would i lose weight and would it help me tone my stomach and legs? if so, when will i see results?

1. Yes and No

2. You'll see results as as soon as you start dieting and get over the misconception that crunches are going to give you a set of abs.

how do dietary supplements help you lose weight?
(ex. 'One A Day')

Ephedra is still illegal so most diet pills will use something called Ephedrine as a substitute. (As a side note, there is legislation in place to make Ephedra legal again.). Pills such as Hydroxycut made by Muscletech or Ripped Fuel made by Twinlab are examples of popular diet pills. Personally I never ever recommend these to any of my clients except for those who are experinced competitive bodybuilder. The average person should go nowhere near these pills no matter what the ads claim. Most claim they ignite Thermogenesis inside the body to metabolize extra calorie and manipulate fat loss. If this was true, the producers of such drug should be given the Nobel Prize. If you really need to use a dietary support supplement I recommend something non stimulant such as Hoodia or Tonalin CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid, which is an essential fatty acid.) Remember also that there is no pill that will wipe away the effects of a bad diet and no exercise, as PT Barnum said "Theres a sucker born every minute." and there is no greater evidence of this than the people who go out and buy diet pills. Exercise, eat clean and use your logic...it will take you much further than anything in a bottle.

"I dont know how to put this, but uh, im kind of a big deal"

what is that from? i see it everywhere..

"People know me, I have many leatherbound books and my apartment smells of rich mohogany" That completes the rest of that line...its from Anchorman which is a hysterical movie lol

ohkay, so i just finished watching the movie Saw. The ending, all after the part where Adam listens to the tape player in the psyco guy's pocket .. the gguy that worked at the hospital(not the doctor)..it doesn't make sense. Would anyone mind explaing that to me?

Saw along with every other modern "Horror" movie with the exception of Scream absolutely sucks. In particular, The Ring is one of the biggest jokes and bites off of other movies that I've ever seen and Saw wasn't even scary it was just gross. There's a fine line between scary with suspense and just plain gore and unfortunately modern horror movies use too much blood and not enough old school suspense to make a movie scary and there needs to be a balance between both. Halloween is one of the scariest movies of all time and you see little to no blood at all in that movie and the same is true in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the filmakers just made you think you were seeing a lot more blood than you really were and thats the marking of a great moviemaker and sadly is a lost art with today's horror. Halloween in 1978 started all of this stuff that claims to be original today and the movie Psycho even before Halloween opened up the serial killer horror genre. Whenever you see someone pop out of nowhere in a horror movie or you hear the creepy music leading up to when he's going to pop out with the loud music when he does...it all came from John Carpenter when he made Halloween in 78. Jason, Freddy, Scream, Saw, any movie like that is all a bite off of Michael Myers. Sorry I didn't answer your question as I wondered the same thing myself in the end of that movie lol. Besides how scary can a movie be when the guy who plays a victim (Cary Elwes) played Robin Hood in Robin Hood Men in Tights? lol

Every time I get my boyfriend to have a boner he covers it up, what does that mean? It doesn't bother me that he has one but what is he trying to like hide?

He's probably just embarassed of either the size of the woody or the fact that its even there to begin with, its not uncommon. Guys get boners at the worst possible times, like when you're in school and it just happens out of nowhere and thats exactly when your teacher says "You wanna come work out this problem on the board?" We take the zero on that, thats when you have to walk out of the class with your bag in front of yourself trying to make it look like you're just carrying it. :-)

Don't worry he's probably just embarassed and needs to get used to you seeing it.

I weigh 146 lbs. and would like to get down to 110 lbs. in about 3 months time. I am interested in trying the South Beach Diet and would like to know if anyone has any information regarding if it really works or not. Has anyone actually tried it before?? I was thinking about joining online at www.southbeachdiet.com but I do not want to waste my time and money if it does not truly work. Thank you very much.

Any diet that is based on the deprivation of a vital macronutrient (Whether it be fat, protein or carbs) is a diet that is not stable in nature and will end up doing more damage in the long run. Now everyone who reads this is probably like "Cha right what the hell does he know?" I'll be honest with you- it works, but not in the ways that you really want it to, so I suggest you don't even waste your time or money and just focus on controlling portions, eating your nutrients in this caloric breakdown during the day- 40% carbs, 40% protein and 20% fat. There is no magic pill or diet, none at all no matter what some crackhead doctor or so called fitness "guru" claims. Hey Atkins Nutritionals recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, why? Because people are realizing that this low carb garbage such as Atkins and South Beach that were a craze for a few years suck in the long run.

How good of schools are theses and how hard are they to get into.

Rudgers
Penn State
Brown
Performing Institute of New York
Princeton

You never know how the admissions people at a college are going to act so its a very subjective question. Princeton and Brown are Ivy league and really hard to get into though. For the record I hate the Penn State Nittany Lions when they play Notre Dame so I don't care about that school :-)

Listen.. this sounds impossible.. but I need to lose like about 50 pounds by may. I'm almost 200! That's so bad! I've done it before, I've lost 30 pounds in 2 months, but that didn't stick due to a very bad car accident which impailed my health (my neck was injured && kidneys) and led me back to an unhealthy weight. I just joined a gym, and I have a eating plan picked out. But I need some more pointers! Like.. how much calories should I take in.. and how much I should work out daily.. what exercises should I do? Please help!!

You should be taking in at least 1500 calories a day in order to kickstart a caloric deficit needed to lose bodyweight and fat. You can lose 50 lbs by May, but not all of that 50 lbs is going to be fat, if you were to do everything right, I would say no more than 10-12 lbs of that total would be actualy bodyfat lost. Work out at least 3 times a week with weights and with cardio and eat at least 4 times a day. You can listen to all of the meatheaded advice that promises that you will lose weight fast through deprivation and ridiculous workouts and some stupid fad diet or you can do it the right way, but Iam going to caution you that making major changes to your body takes a long time no matter what Cosmopolitan says.

I am currently 17 years old.. 6 foot 3. But I have a awkard voice that makes me sound younger and smaller then I actually am.

Is there any way I can retrain my voice? By making it deeper and more normal.. right now I cannot stand listening to my voice when it is recorded.

Not much you can do man, this is what puberty has brought you and I know it sucks but that's how it's going to stay unless you want to dabble with steroids which can make your voice deeper but I dont think you would want to do that and I wouldnt recommend that.

Thats the closest thing for a guy to having birth....keep drinking that water and taking in plenty of minerals.

I'm 14/f, about 5'2 and about 135 pounds. I'm very unhappy with my weight. I don't have a bunch of time to put in to exersising, and I really enjoy going to the gym, but my parents will not pay for a membership or even drive me there. The only option I have at the moment (Because its cold outside) is to do tapes inside. I'll happily do things like Pilates, but the only Cardio (Which is what I really need, I think, to burn calories and raise my metabolism) is a tape called "Walk Away The Pounds" or "Walk And Jog" both by Leslie Sansone that my mom has. I HATE HATE HATE those tapes. Do you have any reccomendations as to tapes that a fourteen year old girl might not mind doing, or other ways I can get some cardio in when its cold outside?

Also, suggestions for an eating/exercise plan that I can follow would be great - I would like to lose around 20 pounds by May.

First off, let me say that there is no substitute for the enviornment of a gym. Positive energy and discipline is shown and this cannot be replaced by home training. I've heard lots of good things about Pilates and Billy Blanks' Tae Bo for good video choices. Tae Bo will get you really sweaty and get your heart rate moving, since you are 14 if you get this video I recommend you exercise no more than 3-4 days a week as rest is just as important as working out in fitness. As far as your eating, dont do anything too drastic- feed your muscles and your systems- avoid the sodas and candy and all of the white sugar junk and eat good meals regularly throughout your day (around 4 times a day). Dont worry so much about what the scale says- its a very deceitful tool- the mirror is your best judge of your progress.

I just got a membership to a gym and will be starting on Tuesday. I've never tried to lose weight by going to the gym but I am trying to lose at least 30 pounds before June. Any ideas on how to approach this?? Any ideas on how to work out at the gym since I'm new to this whole thing?

Its not part of your membership to get a personal trainer or nutritionist. They may be on staff but they certainly aren't free becuase you're a member, with trainers and nutritionists, you get what you pay for- Personally I have always found getting a nutritionist unnecessary if your trainer has good knowledge of nutrition (Which they should). Look at the prices per session the trainers are going for and decide whether you want to do it or not, since you have basically no gym experience at all I would recommend getting a trainer to not only teach you diet and exercise- but also how to act inside a gym; things like not slamming weights on the floor, not crowding someone using a bench, cleaning the weights off the bars, things like that.

is there anywhere where i can get a lowfat sweets/cookies recipe? i would prefer it to have a low about of sugar and calories but still tastes good. (under 100 calories per serving with decent size servings)

and if you have the nutritional facts or whatever on the site/recipe that is a def bonus!

Theres a professional bodybuilder named Jay Cutler who's website is Jaycutler.com and look up his wife Kerry's Oatmeal cookie recipe. It's delicious and more healthy than any mainstream recipe not from a bodybuilder.

So I have a weight loss problem. I just can't do it. I talked to a doctor and a dietician and they are sending me to a specialist who is going to show me some pills for options. Chances are theyll come from GNC or something.
Before I go, do you have any idea on what pills I should take? Any success stories with any particular brand name of pills etc?

Stay away from the pills, I've had lots of clients who were messed up from that. If you are going to take a pill, make sure it is non stimulant such as Tonalin CLA.

hey, I'm 14 and a girl. I don't have the money to buy advanced fitness equipment or buy a gym membership. I was wondering if you could reccomend some excercises that I could do without having to pay a lot of money. I really only sit-up, push-ups and running now. Is there anything else you can tell me to do?

Its awesome that you are 14 and care that much about your body, good for you :-)

Arnold Schwarzenegger said it best about people who claim they cannot get exercise done- "I have never paid for a situp or a pushup in my life and Ive done millions."

Calisthenics are excellent for you since you are still 14 and your bones are soft and wouldnt be able to handle the daily rigors of weight training. Here are some exercises:

Knee bends
Push-ups (all variations)
Crunches
Dips between chairs
Find a sturdy tree limb and do Chin-ups
Leg Scissors
Lunges
