I have Bipolar 1 Disorder. I hate taking all these medications and always going to doctors appointments, but life is too short to let mental illness get the better of me.


Often times life is a challenge, and nobody knows that better than me. I wake up wondering if this is going to be a day my illness overpowers my meds, and either sends me flying like a bat out of hell, or leaves me laying on the couch like a wet dish rag.


Thank all that is good in the world that I have an excellent support system at home.

My older sister is almost 20, still living in our parents house, un-employed, and about to quit college. My dad doesn't really say anything about it, but my mom is now heck-bent on me going to a top-notch college, getting a job as soon as possible, and all the things I want to do socially with friends doesn't even matter. I understand that they don't want me to end up like my sister, but I find it unfair. They were never this hard on her, and let her decide. Heck, she didn't even get her drivers license until last year! And now it's gotten to the point where they are catering to her every need and pushing me out into the world without warning. With that said, How do I talk to my parents about this? I want to do all of these things (drive,work,etc.) but at MY own pace.

I can't add much, but I will add a bit of advice for you.

When you talk to your parents about this, don't bring your sister into it. Yah, I know. Her situation, and how your parents are dealing with it is frustrating to you, I'm sure.
HOWEVER, that is all between Mom, Dad, and Sister.
Nothing you can do to change that.

What is between Mom, Dad, and You are your wants, needs, and future. Not the unfairness of Sister's current situation. So best way to be heard is to maturely discuss what you feel is right for YOU in this life, while leaving her completely out of your discussion.

You don't like to be compared to her (which is sorta what's going on) so don't open doors for anymore of that.
If Mom and Dad start saying, "Well, Sister blah blah...," Kindly ask that they don't use this time to discuss her, because you want to discuss you and only you.

Good luck, and try not to let your sister's life troubles effect you. I know that's hard to do, but it's really for the best.

I have a male Betta fish- I have had him for almost two months now. Lately I've noticed that his top fin is frayed around the edges, and that he has a split fin/ fin rot, his fins seem to be slowly decaying.

I went to the pet store today and picked up antibiotic drops called, "BettaFix," and was wondering how well it works... For anyone who has ever used these drops, does BettaFix work well? If so, about how long until I start noticing improvement?

In addition to the above, if you know of anything else I can do to help my fish, please let me know.

I had that happen with goldfish once. I didn't use that specific antibiotic, but the kind I used worked well. I don't recall how long until it is healed. Maybe a week or so? Don't quote me on that...

Make sure his water is always clean. Betas usually don't make messy water, but if you overfeed them, the left-over food pollutes the water.

I hate asking for advice but I feel I need to, Ok so I started daiting this year and I have had my fare share of b/f's. All of my b/f's want me to have sex and im not ready I had things happen to me when I as little and its just well I still havent gotton over it. is it okay to say yes to a spot on the waiting list to a college even if you dont want to go but you want to get a letter of acceptance (hopefully that is the case) if they have enough spots? like just want the letter for keeping bc being on the wait list is like a maybe answer and you just want a definite answer.

If you don't want to attend that college, you should say no to the waiting list spot so someone who actually wants to go there can get on the list.

Hi there. Hopefully someone can help me.

I have a 3 1/2 year old male cat who was desexed as early as we were able to get it done and within the past two weeks he has started to smell horrible. it's not a poop smell; its just a bad smell. I think its like that male spray smell but he has never sprayed before. He is considered weak since he's half rag-doll and thus doesn't fight other cats; but he does get picked on. Is it possible that other male cats are spraying him?

And HOW do I get rid of the smell? He is a very well-loved cat; constantly being hugged and all but this smell is deterring all of us from him. I'm worried about bathing because I think the shock of being in water will freak him out but if it'll help; I'll do it!

I don't know how you'd stop other males from spraying him, but you can give him a bath.
Yes, he'll be freaked out. You may want to have a helping hand in bathing him.
When I had cats who came indoors, I gave them baths with cat shampoo, whether they liked it or not. They didn't like it, more often than not, but you can't have your cat smelling foul. Makes it hard to give him all those hugs if they stink.

this girl who i really dont talk to asked me to call her in as her mom. shes really good friends with my friends, and she said if she gets caught she'll take all the blame. so i did it. today i was called to the office, they asked if it was me. i didnt no what to do so i freaked and said no it wasnt i promise. i left and he said if your lying there will be serious trouble. i decided to go back to talk to him after school to confess, but he wasnt there. i left him a note to call me into the office tomorrow. what should i say?! its hard to be like, well hey i lied to you im sorry, because i went into detail in my lying you know! so it will make me look so stupid and bad! im so scared of getting suspended, i was just trying to be nice to that girl. im in sports, i CANT get suspended! please please please help me im soooo scared ill be in trouble for lying, i cant stop crying! but going to tell the truth is best to do right? sorry its long please answer!!!

ps. i NEVER do anything bad. ive only ever ditched once, im an A and B student. all thats on my record was excessive tardies 2 years ago. Im truly a good kid! just caught in a bad situation

I think your honesty will be appreciated. Of course, there will be some sort of consequence, but that's just something you have to face. I wager your good student record of only tardies 2 years ago will be taken into consideration.
If coming outright and saying "I lied" is too hard, start telling the story from the beginning, just as you did here.
Explain that yes, you did lie because you were scared to tell the truth, but you decided to face the music.
And yes, going to tell the truth is the best thing.

Does anyone know of a brand of at-home hair coloring (NOT highlighting) I could use? FYI: I've gotten my hair dyed slightly dark brown/chestnut hair, and it's coming out because my hair originally had blonde highlights. So, I need a brand that won't make my hair muddy.

Feria is one I've always liked.
To keep from getting a dull color, try to find something along the lines of golden chestnut, rather than just chestnut. That may help your color come out as you like it to.

P.S.
I've never had luck with "Ash" colors. They usually have a grayish tint to them, or worse, can have a greenish tint if you go with an ash blonde.

A man who was married lie to me that he is single and said he will marry me and plan to marry me, therefore one night we have intercourse.
Then, due to his personal matters done before, he was jailed for two weeks.
He did lie to me in the very beginning that the case was not a criminal case. In fact it was a criminal case and he was the offender of the case.
When i visit him during his imprisonment, i found that he was married and i met his wife and talk to her for 10 hours, in fact it was his wife helping him to find the victims like me, to "feed" her husband, she provide the account for him to lie that it was his bank account etc..
i loved him so much and he wrote a letter to me that he will marry me immediately if he can be discharged (since the 2 weeks' jail was not a defined time, it depends whether i can get letter of pleading from the person with good social status ). He and his wife both promise me so.
Unexpectedly, after i got five letters of pleading and this guy then discharged from the imprisonment, everything changed , all the promises from the man and his wife gone.
What should i do ? Please help me....

I think most of us women have fallen prey to the wrong type of man before. You have just so happened to fall for the extremely wrong type of man.

What should you do?
Move on with your life. Forget these people and their empty promises. You can't change them, and you can't change what's happened, so you learn from this experience.

Remember that you deserve so much better.
You deserve to go out there and find a man who won't lie to you, who won't scam you, who won't take advantage of you, and who won't make promises he doesn't intend to keep.

I know it's hard to get past this and move on. But today is a new day, and if you start the healing process today, it will be a little bit easier with each passing day.

Strictly for informational purposes only, I was wondering about this:

On birth control packets it says that it's normal not to have a period one month, but if you still don't start the next month, to take a pregnancy test.

My question is, wouldn't taking birth control that first month hurt the fetus for the next month if you were pregnant?

Though getting pregnant while on birth control is a slim chance, many a woman have conceived while taking it.
Considering you don't know you're pregnant the minute it happens, you keep taking the birth control until you realize it.

Let me give you a kinda-sorta comparison type example:
When I was pregnant with my oldest son, during the first month before I realized I was pregnant, I'd drink on a couple of weekends with my husband. Considering it was whiskey I drank, I was quite worried when I discovered I was pregnant. We all know that alcohol during pregnancy is a big no-no!

My OB told me to have no worries, that it is an extremely slim chance that my baby would be effected by what I drank in that first month.
He came out just fine! :-D

Of course, alcohol and birth control are two different things, but if one continues to consume both during pregnancy, both can cause problems for baby.
So, when you discover you're pregnant, you discontinue taking birth control just as you would discontinue drinking alcohol.

Does that make sense? I hope I didn't make you more confused.

Be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist questions like this. They don't mind if you call in to ask. Part of their job is to make sure you understand what medicines you are taking, and answer any questions you have about them.

I wish I could save the world, but I can't even go a day without lying. Its like I'm fooling myself into believing I'm a good person by sympathizing with unfortunate people.. but the truth is I'm doing nothing to help them.

Not only am I not doing anything good to help people in bad situations, I'm doing bad things to people in good situations.

I guess the question is: Have you ever felt really disgusted with yourself as a human being? What did you do?

Well, you are feeling disgusted because you aren't doing what you really want to be doing, which is helping people.

What you do is say "Today I'm going to change."
Then go out and actually help people. It doesn't have to be huge. Even the smallest acts of kindness are largely appreciated by somebody.

Give a blanket and a hot cup of coffee to a cold homeless man. Seems a small act, but it would be large in his eyes.

So far as I'm aware, folks get "Mom" tattoos as a symbol that she is one they care about, love, and respect. Not necessarily a memorial because she's gone.
Kinda like people get tattoos of their children's names.

I've recently noticed a boost of confidence in my boyfriend. This has in turn caused me to be more physically attracted to him than I've ever been. I've always been physically attracted to him but recently, I can't seem to take my hands off him. He has noticed and is quite fond of me acting this way towards him but is also asking questions. I'mnot sure if I should tell him why I've been acting this way. His confidence started whenhe got his hair cut...it was quite drastic. Is it okay to tell him that the confidence boost is the cause? More than just being generally confident, he's found confidence in his...member as well. This of course is a turn on but I'm not sure if it'san appropriate topic to share with men

Of course tell him that his confidence is the cause. It will help keep his self esteem boosted, and we can ALL use a little of that. Right?
I don't know if I would go into detail as far as his "member confidence," because that may be a little awkward for you, but whatever you prefer.

I've never gotten a tattoo before and I've been toying with the idea for a while. I really want to get one. I just really need to get an outside opinion from someone that doesn't know me. I want to get this design:

I want to get it on the back of my shoulder towards the edge of my shoulder blade. I want it to be about 3 or so inches across.

I'm just worried about the pain and whether it will be easy to cover and easy to show.

I got one on my shoulder blade, and it didn't hurt so much as it was annoying to sit still for so long. But all people have different pain tolerances.

Covering it up and showing it off all depends on the shirt you choose to wear. ;-)

I am a high school senior with a 4.0 grade average and a batting average of 600 but the coach benched me so that the grandson (an sophomore) of a schoolboard employee could play what should i do

Have you talked to the coach about this?
I can see letting a younger player have a chance to get in the game, but if you are completely benched for the season, that's not right.
Especially considering you could get a scholarship, but you have to PLAY for that.

I will celebrate my 2nd anniversary in september. I'm 29 and my husband is 35. My husband and I have these petty arguments all the time about how he always put me last or don't help me around the house. For example, we were invited to a relative's house for Easter dinner. I haven't seen these relatives since they moved back to my home town. I made sure my husband didn't have any plans for us, before I gave my cousin the okay for dinner. Well, when Sunday came, he layed around the house napping. I told him I wanted to leave the house at 4pm for dinner and he said okay. As usual, he didn't start to get ready until 5:30pm. This is an ongoing problem, it's like he doesn't hear me or just don't care. Since December we scheduled a date. We would go out or watch a movie once a week (on a Wednesday), this day was selected by my husband. Since I compromised on a Weekday, due to him working on Saturdays. I suggested we start date night no later than 6:30 pm. This way, we can still enjoy one another and I can still get enough rest for work the next day. He agreed. However, I think he made it to date night on time maybe 3 times. The last straw was he wanted to go to the mall during our night. This was after he showed up 1 and 1/2 hours late. What I don't understand is he get's an attitude with me, because I'm mad at him. I'm really tired of this and not to mention all the other teenage actions he's pulled. What should I do???

If he don't want to get off his duff to keep the plans he made, then go without him.

Don't be nasty. Obviously getting mad at him does nothing but get your blood pressure up, because he doesn't see the problem. Maybe being left out will open his eyes.

If you are going to get mad at him about it, make sure it is at the right time. Like when he doesn't want to shut the TV off to get ready to go. Unplug the crummy thing and say, "Look man, time to get on the ball here. Light a fire under your ass, alright? We got plans to keep."

As for petty arguments, is it really worth the stress? Are these petty things worth fighting over? If you get in a heated argument, both parties end up talking AT each other rather than TO each other. When that happens, neither is listening to the other. If neither is listening, how you going to solve anything?

I met this guy 4 years ago. I am in my late 20's and he is in his early 30's. We hit it off. He was everything I was looking for; attractive, charming, sweet, succesful, and loving. 3 months into it he changes into a cocky, disrespectful person. Apparently he had another girlfriend. I suffered as the other woman for almost 3 years. I knew what I needed was to leave, but I didn't. Actually throughout those 3 years, we were on and off. It is now into the 4th year and he has made some changes. I think and feel like he is only seeing me. When we're together, we are deeply in love. We laugh, we enjoy each others company, We are so happy together. And I mean literally "together". He is a very busy guy, so when we're apart...we do not get along. Because I already have trust issues considering he disrespected and cheated in the part, I would think that he would try his hardest to communicate. Of course, he doesnt. Some nights he simply doesnt return my calls. His excuse the next morning is he had a long day and he was tired. I really think that he is not cheating, but I feel like I deserve to be communicated with. Would counseling be worth our time? Is our relationship savageable? I am deeply in love with him. Please help.

Im going to post this again cause I havent gotten much replys on the other and I really need help.

So i'll fill you in on what has happend..

I dont know if this has to do with my problem but about two weeks ago i had sex and the condom broke. so i got my period but it only lasted three days and wasnt heavy as usualy. I usualy last for 5-7 and bleed heavily which is my NORMAL period. well I took pregnancy tests about a week after and it came out negative. I dont think im pregnant tho.

but before my period and still now I have had SEVERE stomach pains. I have gone to the hospital twice and to the doctors once. the doctors did a cat scan and there was nothing wrong. They also did urine tests and still nothing wrong. when they feel around inside my stomach it doesnt hurt but when they push on it it does.. it also doesnt hurt me to pee so it cant be something with my urine. PLEASE HELP

You probably didn't get many replies because nobody can tell you what this may or may not be. We are, for the most part, Average Joes and Janes, and many of the folks on here are teens.

When you went to the doctor/hospital, were you completely honest? Meaning, did you inform them of your sexual activity? That is VERY important information for them to know.
If you didn't tell them about the condom breaking, etc. now is the time to do so.
If you are a teen and worried about the ol' doc informing your parents, you are fretting for no reason. They can't tell.

Being one who has been pregnant for, like, 2 years now, I can tell you severe stomach pain is not a pregnancy symptom. In fact, if that happens during pregnancy, it's either something wrong, or, at the end, labor.
