how is manhattan part of new york? what is it? a city? or a street? A state? what? like is it like "los angeles" from California? so i guess its like "manhattan" from "new york" correct me if i am mistaken
Manhattan is not technically a city even though we native NY'ers call it "The City". Manhattan is a BOROUGH of NEW YORK CITY which consists of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and The Bronx.
The only time it really counts as a "city" is when you mail something there. And its not Manhattan, New York...it's New York, New York.
do products such as the bender ball and the ab lounge actually work as well as the commercials say they do?
are there any products for abs that actually work?
Just a floor to do crunches on is all you really need. Maybe a stability ball or ab wheel. That's it. Don't buy into those infomercials.
I love that video the guido fan club, and in one part the guy says 'and boy did he have a pair of latts, latts that went on for weeks' hah so i was wondering what are latts? i think they have something to do with muscles but idk?
The word "lats" is short for Latissmus Dorsi...or simply, back muscles.
why is running in the cold better than running in hot weather?
The cold air is more dense and it helps expand your lungs- enabling you to hold more air.
I have a strange problem in approaching women,i always have a negative thought that i would get rejected so i avoid most of the time. Can anybody help me out in refering some ebooks(free download)
Effective ways to flirt with women
How to impress women?
Tell them that you're me :-D
Actually that won't attract even the old ladies who play bingo. Possibly not even the blind....
Just be yourself man and let it come natural, being a good flirt comes with practice and just certain inherent personality traits. Even if you're rejected, you're a step ahead because if you didn't do anything then you would never know. Play it cool and just be you and don't give the old chivalrous, sensitive, "Trading Spaces" loving song and dance.
I play football for my high school, im one of the better freshman lineman, my probleam is i weigh to little. im about 175 but alot of the kids are over 200. im mostly muscle and id like to keep it that way, how can i increase weight to around 200 but not put on fat
Not going to happen that way, man. Bulking, especially 25 lbs means you also are going to gain some fat, but this isn't a bad thing.
I am sure your coaches make you do heavy compound movements for weightlifting, stick to that and keep eating a lot of calories...really stress your carbs and not just protein. It takes time.
Does smoking make you slimmer?
Why does it make you slimmer?
1. Some yes, Some no
2. Cigarettes are stimulants, so they also speed up the metabolism. This is not permanent.
im 14, and overweight, andc thinkikng of joining lucille roberts, my mom friends goes there and loves it, im gonna go with one of my friends, has anyone gone there before? can you tell me more about it? does it work well?
I feel this is a good place to go for a beginner female, especially one that is overweight. You will feel more comfortable being in the all female environment and skip over the intimidation of a regular gym and they'll teach you a good bit about your body composition and nutrition...especially portion control which is very essential.
I am a senior in high school & I'm really interested in becoming a Nutritionist or Dietician. I was planning on going to school in NY and starting at a regular college, then my sophomore year of college, I'll apply to their Nutrition program since you need certain credits. My high school does not have all of the courses that you need before you start becoming a registered dietician. I know the basics & I googled about becoming one, but can anyone give me additional information about the field?? I don't want to actually cook or work for food. I want to plan meals & help people with their weight. I lost 40+ lbs myself in a healthy way & I think I could really help a lot of people. Any advice, suggestions, opinions, experiences, etc??
Thanks!!
I think it's a great idea. You'll work with an array of people with different plights and you'll influence their lives on a personal level.
Obesity is on pace to beat out tobbacco use in the future in number of deaths, so the demand for nutritionists is going to grow. Go for it.
Anyone know how to get a flat stomach adn can you please tell me what i should be eating to get a flat stomach links would be helpful.
Cardio, diet, and good training (Hard work). That's all there is to it.
uh..i was just wondering..Did the existence of city-states in italy help cause the renaissance? And if so, why?
Sure you were just wondering.
Google or that textbook you're supposed to read is a fine alternative and will yield far better, more comprehensive answers.
Anyone know how to get skinner/thinner thighs ?
Eat right and exercise.
I am trying to figure out a brooklyn accent and I need some help. I live in the four corners area in the US- how can I change my speech to a realistic Brooklyn accent? Any ideas/ tips/ links would be very helpful.
I have that accent. Why the hell would you want to have one of our accents? lol. We don't pronounce a lot of words correctly and it sounds like "How yoo Dooin?".
I know this isn't really asking for advice, but the last few days I was just thinking about this and wondering why the people here joined.
I guess it is just out of pure curiosity. I would have just posted this in the moderator forum or in the supporter discussion, but I'd rather see why everyone joined rather than just those who have been here for some time and such.
So, why did you join advicenators and why are you still here? What about the site made you want to stay?
I'll probably be one of the first people to answer this (I'm not going to answer it in the question).

are they bad?
I play poker every second Wednesday of the month with Satan thanks to my Ouija board.
ok I posted a question before on how to gain weight and muscles but at the same time to not grow too much fat and ppl told me to eat more protein/do bodybuilding exercises and lay off the fat
i have been consumed lots of pasta/bread/fish/cereal/water/chicken/beef/pizza over the last one month or so.The reason of me doing this is that I'm now skinny, and I want to grow more 'meat' so to be bigger.
1)The only place that seems to be growing bigger is my stomach, how do I get the meat or the food to go to my arms and body(I want to grow my whole body,as in bigger like sideways as well, and not just my stomach)
2)Once I get the meat to my entire body,I obviously exercise to get muscles, the problem now is that I'm skinny and need the meat,so if I exercise I'm going to lose the meat that structures my body. How do I build muscles through exercising while not losing the meat I have gained over my food consumption cause I want to have a bigger mass bod as well.
thanks for answering
This plan is all out of whack. It's not really shocking that your stomach is getting bigger.
So you're saying that you're just going to eat and all of the bodyfat accumulated is going to go to the right spots and then magically it will all convert to muscle because you're going to start lifting weights? That's not how it works.
You're either bulking or you're cutting. Simply- In order to gain muscle size- you need to be having an adequate amount of calories to facilitate hypertrophy. When cutting- the body is not getting quite as many calories; causing less size. This is why you can't gain muscle and lose fat at the same time no matter what the guy at the gym tells you :-P
There is no greater example of input = output than bodybuilding. Crap in = Crap out.
If you're not exercising, then how are you metabolizing this influx of calories? All you're doing is hindering your progress for when you do start to lift weights.
Screw this "building meat" phase and cut out that pizza and focus on eating and training like a bodybuilder. Remember- If you want to look like a bodybuilder; you have to eat and train like one. Building muscles isn't easy and it's going to require all of your heart and soul if you want to make any legitimate gains. Eat well, lift heavy, get good amounts of rest. That's really all there is to it.
Okay right now I'm doing 60 minutes of cardio (elliptical) a day. I know this sounds like alot but I started out with 15 minutes a day about 3 months ago and I've been working my way up gradually.
I haven't seen any changes in my weight since I started doing 60 minutes cause I only started a few days ago but right now I'm doing the 60 minutes all in one go, which is fine with me, I'm not getting worn out or feeling weak or anything
But I'm wondering, would it be better to do the 60 minutes all in one go or do 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon?
I'm talking in terms of WEIGHT LOSS here. Not in health, I don't care which is healthier because I already lead a pretty healthy lifestyle. But I'm not far off my goal weight and I've reached a plateu and I'd really like to lose my last 7lbs in about a month. So in terms of weight loss, which is better and why?
Split it up. 60 mins at a time is wayy too much and you're not doing anything beneficial after that much time anyway. 30 and 30 is ok, but 20 mins of interval training in the morning and 20 minutes of interval training in the evening is ideal.
By the way- never think that you're in top physical shape all the time; there is always something you can do (like this example of interval training) to improve your health.
Okay, to get this all out
I am 17. I turned 17 in June and I got my learners permit in July. I lived in New Jersey and recieved a NJ permit.
This past week, I moved to Florida and I went to the DMV and they told me that in order to get my FLORIDA license I have to have my permit for 1 year ((getting my license in July of next year)), or since I turned 17 already, I had to wait until I turn 18 ((June of next year)).
Since I don't want to wait the extra 6 months because I think it's ridiculous, because in Florida you can get your license when you are 16, I want to get my New Jersey license
ANYWAY!
What I wanted to do, since I do go back to New Jersey and I do have a house there, I wanted to keep my NJ permit, but also get a Florida one since I am living here pretty much full time since my new highschool is out here. So that way, when January comes around ((When I was originally scheduled to take my New Jersey road test to get my New Jersey license)) I was going to go back to NJ to get my Jersey license. But, since I need practice driving I want to get my Florida permit so I can practice driving out here so I will be prepared for my NJ road test. Once I get my New Jersey license, I would then bring it to Florida and have that transfered to my Florida license
I know this is really confusing, but I really have to know if I can do this because I am not about to wait an extra 6 months for my damn license if I don't have to.
Please, only answer if you REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! Thank you!
Sooner or later you're going to have to get a Florida driver's license in the ways that Florida's laws say you have to anyway since that is your new state of residence. Out of state licenses are honored when the state that issued it has laws in compliance with the state the driver is operating a car in. For example- Someone who is 16 with a full Florida license cannot drive in NY since the minimum age is 17 with Driver's ed; they may have a full license but it is not recognized in the eyes of the state they are driving in. You have to prove residence in the state that you are applying to get a license/permit in, meaning that you can't have licenses/permits from two states at the same time. So you may have a home in Jersey but you make your residence in Florida- you have to play by Florida's rules. You may be able to get a license at 16 in Florida, but that is a moot point for you because you're already past the age of eligibility for that and you're a recent resident with an out of state permit.
Basically- you don't have much choice but to wait it out and acquire a Florida license.
hmm i would really appriciate if someone would shine some light on my following questions.
i would really love to live in new york, but im not planning on moving there until maybe in 3 and a half years? or less
i have to finish collage first,
anyways,
what are some safe neighborhoods to live in, that are near new york city? i would really like to live outside of the city but just close enough to have a nice view,
also what would be a reasonable rent payment for a studio or maybe one bedroom apartament?
i would like to live maybe tops 30 minutes outside of the city if not less =)
all help APPRICIATED!! thank you
The price of living in and around NYC is freaking astronomical. I've seen one room studios in the city go for $2500 a month...and that's just one room! You'll also pay a hefty amount living in the other 4 boroughs.
Factor in you get not just NYS taxes taken out of your check, but NYC taxes as well, overlooked items such as the price of auto insurance, job competition, over $3.00 a gallon gas, $8 packs of cigarettes, the price of parking if you work in Manhattan, little things like the price of parking tickets should you get one- it's all stuff to keep in mind. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is more expensive in the city. It's incredibly hard to live here and it isn't like anywhereeee else in the world- live and work here for a month and you'll see what I mean. You asking what safe neighborhoods exist around the city insinuates that you might be starry eyed by the glitz and glamor of the city, but you are in for one hell of a culture shock if you live here.
I don't want to sound like I am shooting down your dream here and I am all for you moving here and becoming a NY'er, but keep the reality in mind that this is a very big, very intimidating and VERY expensive place to live that is a complete 180 from any place you're used to living in.
