Hello! me again XD you were very helpful last time and i thought you may have a bit more insite for me. I want to get my belly button peirced. On your advice column you said that you know to get your parents to know that you're responsible and trust you. Now, i am 14, so i can understand their not wanting me to do it, but i'd rather have it proffessionally done. (everyone seems to be doing it themselves these days... ouch x.x)

lol any tips?
Panda

Kudos to you for striving to get a body piercing done by a proffessional. Pain is the least important thing you should be worrying about when anyone thinks about doing it themselves. People don't seem to realize that there are PROFFESSIONALS for a reason. Any idiot 13 year old can't just come off the street and know how to properly pierce any part of their own body that they feel should be pierced that particular week. So, please, if my advice doesn't work, don't decide to pierce it yourself. I could tell you a horror story of what happened to me when I was stupid and younge enough to get a friend to try to pierce my eyebrow, but that would be too long.

Now that I'm done with my little mini-lecture, on to the advice.

The key to getting your parents to understand that your responsible enough to get a piercing, is to research all about them. Not every website online is reliable, but I've looked up a few sites that could be helpful to you.

Here's a site from the McKinley Health Center at the University of Illinois.
http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/Handouts/tattoosbodypiercing.html

Here's a site from a piercing-friendly physician at the Duke University Student Health Service in Durham, NC
http://www.tribalectic.com/Keating.asp

There are tons more reliable web sites about piercings, just make sure you get some that are from proffessionals, hopefully people in the health field.

Now, what you need to know about:
You need to know everything there is about cleaning your piercing. You should know what could possibly go wrong, and what to do about everything, if it does go wrong. With belly button piercings, you need to know that you can't wear tight pants, and will have to be careful about certain shirts for 2-4 weeks at least. It will not heal completely for 6 months either.

It's a very big commitment, and takes a lot of care.

One of the most important things to research is the different piercing salons in your area. The first web site I sent you has some questions that you should ask about each salon.

You need to know everything about a navel piercing before you go to your parents. I'm assuming you haven't brought the subject up to them yet? If you already have, everything shouldn't be lost. Just go to these, and more sites. Read through everything so you can get all the information in your mind, and explain to your parents that you know how to take care of it, you've already found the perfect and cleanest piercing salon, and you are not doing it just because your friends are.

Using the plea of "but my friends parents let them do it, why can't I?" Will not work, and will mostly likely only hurt your argument. You need to make your parents understand that your doing this for yourself and that your not going to simply regret it in a year or so.

It would also help if you call it a navel piercing, instead of a belly button piercing. I just think that sounds a bit more professional. And you should save up the money for it yourself. And make sure you get the proper cleaning solutions. Perhaps get the cleaning solutions before hand, just to show your parents that your serious about it and know what your doing.

Now, there may be a big problem with all of the advice I've given you. I know in my state, even with a parents permission, a professional piercer is not legally allowed to pierce you until you turn 16. That may not be the case where you live. That should just be another thing that you should look up. If you start to get yourself knowledgable with piercings now, I'm sure your parents would be more than willing to let you do it once you turn 16 anyway.

Ehh.... I guess that's all my advice. If you have any more questions or need me to clarify any of this, just ask me another one. It's finals week at my college, so I'll just get to the questions as soon as I have time. Good Luck.

Another very good person to go to for piercing help is Smiling_Noobery:

http://advicenators.com/column.php?u=Smiling_Noobery

She is a professional piercer. I haven't noticed her on the site lately, but if you send her a question in her inbox, she might get it in her email and answer you.

Okay, there was no real category available for this but i'll ask away anyhow:

I am very into drawing, and recently the pen i was using for inking ran out.

Does anyone know of a good pen brand for inking?

prefferably no more than $3 per pen. I'm on a rather strict budget right now ^^;

Any ideas?
Panda

Your lucky, I searched through my old art stuff to find the answer to this question.

I have an awsome ink pen, it's a "Higgins", or at least that's what the ink that came with it is called.

Now, by the fact that you said your ink pen ran out, I'm sure you didn't want to know about a dipping ink pen, but they're incredubly nice to work with. It takes some practice, but you can do so much more with them than a normal ball point pen. The pen's are very cheap, under a dollar at my college store, where you have to spend $2.00 on a candy bar. And the ink is not much more expensive, perhaps $1-$2. There are art supply store's everywhere, find one in your area and go search around. Even though you don't have a lot of money now, you could get idea's for later, when you do have money.

Oh oh, I also wanted to mention: if you use my idea and get some ink and a dipping pen, you can take a paintbrush and use the ink to create some really bold, smooth darkest of dark lines, blotches, shapes, etc. The ink that you buy with the pen is blacker than any normal ball-point pen out there. Trust me, you'll notice a big difference if you put the two colors right next to each other.

hey so i'm a freshman in college, and there's this guy here that i kinda like. but it's kinda complicated. i met him like the first day of school-he lives 2 floors above me. we went to a frat party with a bunch of people, and we hooked up. i haven't really talked to him ever since, and i feel bad about losing contact with him, as he was a really good friend. i would go up to his room just to chat (as i used to), but i feel that at this point it would be really random and awkward, because i haven't talked to him in like 2 months, and his roommate kind of creeps me out. he always seems like he's stoned, and we never have good conversations, which makes it even more awkward for me to go up there. any advice on how i could regain contact with him, without it seeming really weird and awkward? if you tell me to go up to his room, what should i say? i know this sounds immature and stuff, but this stuff never gets easier as you get older. sorry this is long, but any advice would be greatly appreciated-specially if i can fix it before winter break, which is in 2 weeks. thanks a lot!!!

Here's a few questions:

Are you sure he doesn't have a girlfriend? In my experience, guys, especially the one's in college, could have a girlfriend at home, or even across town, that every girl in their dorm would mysteriously never know about. If you haven't talked to him in 2 months, then that means that you just met him at the beginning of the semester, had sex shortly after, and then you two sort of drifted apart soon after that. This scenario seems a bit familiar to pretty much every new collge girl. You meet this great guy, have sex, then never really hear from him again. It's possible that he had a girlfriend, and after sleeping with you, he got scared and had to stop being friends with you.

Of course that is only my first opinion on what you've told me. I don't have much hope for a decent guy out there.

But hey, it's always possible. It could very well be that he is just as confused about the situation as you are.

In that case, here's my advice:
He's two floors up from you, so you must see him around once in a while. Do you have any close friends on that floor? Do you have any classes with him, or any friends that have classes with him? When you see him around just stop and talk to him. Mention that it's weird that you haven't hung out in a while, and ask if he wants to hang out sometime. Find a way to see him, and if you see him, then just talk to him. His creepy roommate probalby won't be around all the time.

my rat has been loosing a lot of weight lately. i know rats have respratory problems, but their is no sign of blood in his nose or mouth. he gets plenty to eat and seems very happy.if you have any ideas what could be wrong please let me know. thanks.

I don't know if a respiratory problem would have anythign to do with weight loss, but I could be wrong.

There are a few things you need to think about though. Such as- has he been eating less than usual? Have you changed his diet? Has anything in his environment changed? Any new pets in the house?

I'm not especially expierienced with rats, but if this is a significant loss of weight you should probably be worried. I know a lot of people don't like to spend money on small pets that don't cost a lot to buy, but if this is really a beloved pet, then you should CALL the Veterinarian, in the least. When you talk to the Vet, or the Vet. Tech, or the Receptionist at the clinic or hospital that you call, you should tell them EVERYTHING that you can think of that has changed since your rat started to lose weight. Even the tiniest thing could help them figure out what is wrong.
By calling the Vet, you don't have to pay anything, but you can get some very good advice on what your options are. Ask around your area for a Vet that specializes in rodents. One Vet should be able to point you in the direction of a better rodent Vet.

I found this site originally searching for the answer to one question but now I actually have two. I started reading past advice, and I think that you would be very capable of answering both. First of all I need to say that my boyfriend and I have been in love for awhile now. (btw I'm 17 and a female) He knows I love him but I want to be able to show him. He hasn't asked for either of what I am about to mention but I feel like I owe him a little bit of pleasure. I was wondering if you have any advice on giving a hand job or if you have any techniques on giving a hickey. Advice would be much appreciated.Thank you.

Your question started out excellently, I was excited to be recieving a question with a sincere request of love. That all changed when you mentioned that you wanted to show your love through a hand job.

I do not mean to sound rude, but I will first tell you that showing your love has absolutely nothing to do with giving your boyfriend a hand job or a hicky. If you two really love each other, what you say and do in a non sexual way will mean so much more in the long run. Everyone can have sex, not everyone can actually feel "love".

I don't know if that makes any sense to you or not.

Now, I will say that when I first came to this site I would answer questions like these. I looked back at my first few pages and I was a bit amazed at the amount of smut I put on my column when I first joined this site. It makes me wonder why they considered me to be a good candidate for a level 2 moderator.

If you really want an answer to how to give a good hand job, then referre to the first 2 or 3 pages that I made. Scroll down my column, and I believe that they are pages 26-28 or so.

Also, you want to learn how to give a hickey? In my opinion, you shouldn't try to give him a hickey. If you don't know what your doing and you try too hard it could be painfull. You do know that hickey's are just essentially a bruise on the skin don't you?

Kiss, nibble and slightly suck on his neck. You don't need to leave a big ugly bruise on his neck to give him pleasure.

Okay, I have been thinking about two problems today. I thought I'd ask the pool and some of my favorite columnists about these. I can't remember if I've talked to you about the first one, but I know I haven't talked to you about the second.

I've had this crush on this girl for quite some time. It's gotten to the point where I'll buy stuff I don't really need, nor do I really want, just to talk to her. She always seems happy to see me and always gives me a big hug before I leave. The problem is I have no idea how old she is. I'm not the type of guy who judges people who date younger or older people, but it seems to worry my when I'm involved. I'm 20, what if she's only 15 or 16. She looks and kind of acts young, so I'm worried. What do you think the dating age limit should be for someone like myself?

The other problem. Earlier today, I saw scars and cuts on her rist. It doesn't look like something an accident would have caused. I know she can't really die from cuts on arm, but the scars aren't exactly good for her either. How should I go about asking her where they're from? Is it even my business to ask such a question? What if she obviously lies to me about the scars origins? Should I just drop it then or what?

I won't blame you if you don't give me solid answers, but I at least want your thoughts.

I finally got a guilt-free, "I don't need to be worrying about homework" minute so I can give you my opinions about this.

I've seen some of the things that your other favorites have said, and what I have to say, at least about the first problem you've described is quite different from what anyone else has said.

Normally I would agree, that you need to find out how old she is and don't try to go further than a friendship if she's 16 or younger. But I don't necessarily agree with that.

Let explain... My opinion is based a lot on some conversation's we've had. You don't seem like the kind of guy that's going to just go after a girl to try to get her into bed. You seem like a smart, decent human being who isn't going to use another person. If she is 16, that doesn't mean that she's too immature for a relationship. And I think your smart enough to know the difference. Obviously there's the legality of the whole thing, and if you plan on taking the relationship to another level, then you need to worry about that. If she turns out to be under 18, then you probalby shouldn't go into the relationship if you don't plan on waiting a year or two.

There's another reason that I don't necessarily believe that you simply need to let go of the relationship idea if she's 16 or 17. My male roommate is 25, my female roommate is 20, and they have been dating for four or five years. They started out when she was quite young, and they have been going out since. He is a nice decent guy, and she is an intelligent girl. They didn't have sex for the first few years of their relationship either. From my experience with them, I know that this kind of situation can work out. Most of the time it can't because of the difference in maturity, but sometimes it can. It could be worth the chance.

Some people might get mad at me for feeling that way, but oh well. In the end it's really up to you. If she is under 18, you have some thinking to do about the maturity level... I guess.

Ok, now about the second problem. That's a hard situation, and I'm glad you've asked a bunch of other people. It might not be an extremely serious problem, but then again it could. If it's enough to notice, then it could either mean that she doesn't really try to hide them, that she doesn't think it's serious, that she does it a lot and is running out of hiding spaces, or that she sort of wants you to see and say something about them. Honestly, from my lack of experience with cutting, I want to say that she fact that she might do it, shows a low level of maturity, and might throw my answer to your first question out the window. But, that's because I've only had experience with very immature people who decide to cut.

I thought about how to ask her about them a bit. I think it should be suttle, and innocent. Next time she hugs you or see's you, if you get a chance to hold her hand to where you would obviously be able to see the scars, then ask her. But don't just bring it up without a reason... the reason being, "I just noticed you have cuts, what happened?" Except ya know, more cleverly said.

If she obviously lies, then it would be safer to leave it be for a bit. The closer you get to her, the easier it would be for you to say something to her without having her run off and never talking to you again. The closer you get, the easier it will be to actualy know what she's going through, why she might be doing this, etc...

That's it for now, I'm getting close to the "I need to worry about homework" time again. I'm sure I'll talk to you later.

The camera scares me without beer.

Aren't you still on msn?

When are you going to change that picture? I'm tired of looking at the same one.

Actually, I'm supposed to get a scanner sometime, maybe I can actually put some of my art on it. Plus I have three camera's that I'm waiting to develop. Some of them even have sober pictures on them!!

i have a boyfriend and i like but his best friend too i duunno what to do but they both like mee ... help!!!!!!!!

If you break up with your boyfriend and go out with his best friend, don't you think that would cause some problems between him and his best friend?

I would suggest that you stay away from both of them until you actually make up your mind. If you mess around with them some more you're only going to ruin the friendship they have.

how hard is to get pregnate at the age of 37? ia there any helpful method to make pregnancy happen? my husband and I want to have a baby and we are afraid because , as i said, I am 37 and he is 41. Thanks, ceci

The option of adoption is always a good way to go. Are you certain that you and/or your husband are medically able to have children at any age? This is obviously something you need to find out from a doctor.

I'm sorry I can't give you specific ways to help you get pregnant, but I mostly wanted to put the option of adoption into your mind. My aunt has always wanted children, but at around 37-40 she found out that she had an extremely small chance of even being able to handle the pregnancy. So she adopted. She now has two beautiful boys and is looking to adopt a little girl.

The best part about it is that she can know that she has "saved" these children from a life with a extremely unfit mother. Both of the boys are biological brothers who were adopted at two different times. The mother had many problems and various partners. But, the children are both very healthy and extremely smart.

I recently got a new puppy, the problem was that my 3 yr old lab mix would not accept her. She was very aggressive and territorial. She has never acted like this in the past. I would like to get another puppy, since I had to return the other one. What would be the best way to intriduce them?

You had to return the old one? That's awful sad. You should have asked advice about that puppy before you returned her. I'm a bit experienced in this because of the problems that I had introducing my dog to my roommate's dog. I have talked to the local animal behavior specialist (who is exceptionally good) and I've looked online at idea's that could help you.

First, NEVER introduce two dogs on the "territory" on either one of them. So, the next dog that you get, don't just bring the puppy to your house, because that is your lab's "territory". Bring them both to a park that they have never been to. Make sure you bring treats along. When your lab is not paying any attention, especially bad or aggressive attention to the puppy, then give him/her a treat. Also do this for the puppy. Both the puppy and your lab need to know that "when the puppy (lab) is around, I get treats. This must mean that the puppy (lab) is a good thing."

From what you have said, this may not work. Your lab seems to be a bit to aggressive. But dont' worry, that doesn't mean that there is no hope. It only means that it will take more time. Here's a web page you can look at. http://www.homestead.com/kumikkoakitas/PuppyIntros.html This will help you out when you have the puppy at home.

There's also another exersize you can try whenever you have free time, and another person to help you out. Have you, or another person that your lab is comfortable with hold him/her, on a leash, with treats handy. Have either you, or the second person hold the puppy about 50 feet away. The second person should slowly walk the puppy back and forth in front of the lab. After walking back and forth two or three times, have them take one step forward towards your lab. If your lab is still remaining calm, then give him/her a treat. Continue to do this VERY SLOWLY untill one day, you can bring the two dogs together.

It is going to take a long time. Your lab is already quite old, and I'm guessing has not had a whole lot of exposure to other dogs. That is why he/she is acting this way. It can be done, but, like I said, it will take time.

If you are really up for it, and have the money to spend, then you should call a local animal behavior specialist. They can do wonders, but they are quite expensive.

Ask me a question if you need more help about this.

I have a 6 month old beagle and he bites me all the time..and only me and sometimes my mom but not my dad or brother..he never used to to this! It started about a few weeks ago and I don't think he's mad because half the time he's around me and happy..and then the other half he just starts chewing on me and I tell him to stop and I move away and he get's even more mad! I don't know what to do it really bothers me and it hurts! I know he's not teething because he's past that age and he chews his toys too. If I try to stop and disiplin him he doesn't listen..but he listens to everyone else in my family! Please help! I'll rate high..thanks!!

These kids that have answered you by telling you to scare your dog are incredubly wrong. While this tactic may work sometimes, it can have the opposite effect very often. Your dog could become frightened of you and would become aggressive towards you.

It does not sound like your puppy is aggressive right now. It sounds like he wants to play. When you move away and tell him to stop, he thinks your playing with him. When you give him any kind of attention, whether it's yelling or pushing or slapping, he is going to see that as playing.

Here's what you should do. When he starts to bite on you. IGNORE HIM. This doesn't mean just let him to continue to bite you, but just get up, turn around and walk away from him. He will start to realize that he not only: 1)doesn't get played with when he bites; but he 2)get's totally ignored when he bites.

Another little trick you could use along with the "walk away and ignore" trick, is to put him in a room away from any attention for a while. If you use a crate to put him in when your gone, don't use that as punishment. When your crate training a dog, the crate is sopposed to be seen as his own little safe place. So his safe place should not be used as punishment. You could try putting him in the bathroom, or another small room if he will continually not bite you.

But first, just try to walk away and not pay any attention to him at all.

I like this site and I goto to this site to try and give helpful advice or even to receive some, why is that people are such jerks on here? They give bad advice or stupid comments to someones advice!! And there will probably be a whole bunch of people who will give a dumb remark to this question! Why do people come an give stupid advice like "go kill yourself" or "your a loser" or some stupid comment! Honestly do these people get a thrill out of making fun of someone ? Why do these people sign up for this website if they are just going to give horrible advice? Does anyone agree? Doesn't it seem stupid and pointless?

The site has become overloaded with trolls. Even in the few months that I've been here, it seems to have at least doubled.

Some of the asshole characters, such as Snakeyes, seem to think that they are smarter than anyone who comes here. Because everyone who gives sincere advice has to be stupid. They don't seem to have the brain capacity to realize that this site is made by the people that come here. There are some terrible questions, with horrible spelling, and simple problems. But there are also a lot of decent questions written by people who are familiar with the english language who need actual advice.

Their moronic middle school humor does nothing for this site but attract more morons who ask stupid questions.

On another note, if you notice horribly rude people there is something you can try to do about them. You should read the FAQ section on banning to find out more about this.

Ok, I just got a new kitten that happens to be white. I have never had a white cat before and whenever she goes outside she gets a stuffy nose and most of the time she has crust around her eyes. Is it just b/c she is white? Is she allergic to a type of plant maybe?

Is she a Persian/hymalayan by any chance? Persians are the cats with the flat faces. This causes them to get many respiratory problems. That would attribute to the stuffy nose problem. Persians are also more likely to have eye problems because they seem to bulgde out.
Are her eyes pink or blue? Since she's white, if she also has pink or blue eyes, she could be an albino and this will cause some eye problems. She could be blind without you noticing quite yet.
The plant thing might be a problem. I'm not entirely sure. Most toxic plants have much worse side-effects.

http://www.aspca.org/site/FrameSet?style=User&url=../toxicplants/M01947.htm

Here's a list of plants that are toxic to dogs and cats. You should take a look at those and see if any of the plants are around your home.

Now, back to the white thing. I'm not sure if her being white could have anything to do with her stuffy nose and crusty eye, but I do know that white cats do tend to have a lot more problems than any other colors. She is very very likely to be deaf, and this is often very hard to figure out in cats.

I would have been able to help you out more if I was further in my Vet Tech classes than half a semester, but I think you should call your vet. This may be a semi-normal thing, but it could also be more serious.

okay so this is the deal i have always had boy friends and well yea i liked them at the time and we only lasted like 3-4 weeks yea not long at all well now this year i met this boy trevor and well i really really really think im falling in love...but i wouldnt knoe wut luv is cuz like ive never been in it b4 i mean we've been dating for like 2 months and well i really feel different around him i feel like i can b myself and i can open up to him about n e thing. well trevor on the other hand i never knoe if he feels the same way About me..cuz well yea he calls me every night but when i c him he always acts soo shy at school and he always is soo short temperd like im always affraid that if i do some thing bad that he will like hate me and it doesnt even have to b n e thing big just like me not callin him when he tells me to call him back i mean ive seen him totally flip out on other peeps but i knoe he never would on me cuz he has great respect of women and gurls. so i guess me question is would you call this love?? and not only from me but form him too??? answer me sooon i really need to knoe

I would not call this love. You should never be afraid to do certain things. You say your boyfriend would never flip out on you, but then again you say your afraid that he would get mad and hate you if you do something as simple as not calling him once.

That's pretty serious. Please get away from him. That is abuse. You should never, ever be afraid to do anything. I have a friend who is going through a similar experience and I don't know how to get her away from the guy. These kind of situation's scare me.

It's not love when there is fear involved.

Ok ever1 on here can be rated. How do i make my self so i cant get rated too. I wanna see how Im doing answer ppl's problems

I checked out your column with my super moderator abilities and see that you've only been on the site for 8 days. You've also only answered 7 questions. Don't worry, it just takes time. None of those people rated you, but sooner or later someone will rate you.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "how do I make myself so I can't get rated" Is that a typo? It's not possible to make it so you CAN'T get rated. Whether your rating is good or bad, it helps the moderators keep track of everyone.
