I have a 6 month old beagle and he bites me all the time..and only me and sometimes my mom but not my dad or brother..he never used to to this! It started about a few weeks ago and I don't think he's mad because half the time he's around me and happy..and then the other half he just starts chewing on me and I tell him to stop and I move away and he get's even more mad! I don't know what to do it really bothers me and it hurts! I know he's not teething because he's past that age and he chews his toys too. If I try to stop and disiplin him he doesn't listen..but he listens to everyone else in my family! Please help! I'll rate high..thanks!!

But I think he will get over this stage he isgoing through. If he doesn't stop in a month or two i would get a specialist. [ FriendOfYours726's advice column | Ask FriendOfYours726 A Question ]

AsKmE135 answered Friday November 19 2004, 6:03 pm: I had the same problem with my dad's dog..hes a 10 month old lab but we got him when he was a few weeks old. One problem might be if ur dog was taken away from the litter at younger than 6 weeks old. Cuz dogs need to stay with their mother and siblings for a while so they can learn how to interact with other dogs and ..creatures? lol Like when puppies play, puppy A will bite puppy B and then puppy B will like snap back at puppy A and thats how they learn not to bite. But what u need to do is let ur dog know that ur in charge. Dogs view their owners as their "pack" and they are always trying to be the leader of their "pack." But you need to prove to him that you and ur family are the leaders, not ur dog. Get a choker collar for him (dont worry they dont really hurt them, their skin is different from ours) and always keep a short leash on him. When he's biting u, tug the leash really fast and say firmly "NO BITE" (but dont SHOUT it). Keep jerking the leash until he stops biting u. Then reward him, say "Good Boy/Girl" and give him nice attention. Keep doing that repeatidly every time he bites u. It will take a while, but he will learn eventually.
If this doesnt work and you are really haveing problems with him, u might want to bring him to a trainer. Hope this helped! Rate me plz and give me feedback! Good luck!! [ AsKmE135's advice column | Ask AsKmE135 A Question ]
advice~gurl answered Friday November 19 2004, 6:00 pm: I can understand where you are coming from, I have a 7 or 8 month old Beagle "Fonzie" and he is terrible with the chewing. *Scolds Fonzie for shewing on his blanket* I have only had fonzie for about 3 months and he has chewed up about 4 blankets altogether and he love to bite/lick me continuesly. What I have done to minimize his desire is everytime he does it he gets a nice stern NO and a slap on the nose. If he keeps it up I repeat and slap his nose again. Yes it may seem mean but really Fonzie has learned. he hardly trys to bite except when he is really excited. I do the same to stop the licking.
I also wanted to say that he can too still be teething. Fonzie was untill he was about 7 months. You also have to give your pup a chance, your dog will still be a puppy until he is about a year and a half.
You just have to tell him NO and slap his nose. Make understand that your the boss. Fonzie only trys to bite me and my mom but no others.
selectopaque answered Friday November 19 2004, 5:11 pm: These kids that have answered you by telling you to scare your dog are incredubly wrong. While this tactic may work sometimes, it can have the opposite effect very often. Your dog could become frightened of you and would become aggressive towards you.
It does not sound like your puppy is aggressive right now. It sounds like he wants to play. When you move away and tell him to stop, he thinks your playing with him. When you give him any kind of attention, whether it's yelling or pushing or slapping, he is going to see that as playing.
Here's what you should do. When he starts to bite on you. IGNORE HIM. This doesn't mean just let him to continue to bite you, but just get up, turn around and walk away from him. He will start to realize that he not only: 1)doesn't get played with when he bites; but he 2)get's totally ignored when he bites.
Another little trick you could use along with the "walk away and ignore" trick, is to put him in a room away from any attention for a while. If you use a crate to put him in when your gone, don't use that as punishment. When your crate training a dog, the crate is sopposed to be seen as his own little safe place. So his safe place should not be used as punishment. You could try putting him in the bathroom, or another small room if he will continually not bite you.

HunniBunni answered Friday November 19 2004, 4:36 pm: Ok, my dog is the same way until one day, I was walking in my home and my dog was following me, and I was grabbing a instrument, and to my surprise, I shaked it and my dog backed away, I know this isn't the nicest thign, but I ran after him with the thing giving him a taste of his own medicine. and If it helps dog's don't like it when they tapped on the noe, you just have to yell "NO". He's your pet and he can't be the boss of you. Hope I helped!! [ HunniBunni's advice column | Ask HunniBunni A Question ]

charmed-cherry21 answered Friday November 19 2004, 4:09 pm: He probably STILL is teething not all the time is that too old for a puppy to be teething. He also may not be as used to you because you are at school all day and he sees your parents more.
