why is my cat suddenly affectionate?

Posted Sunday November 15 2009, 3:25 pm

I had two cats, Toby & jack. jack was taken to my moms house for a month now to get fixed and everything... a little after he left, toby has been really affectionate; i dont know if its because he needs me to be like his Jack, because they loved each other.. if not mistaken, they were lovers.. hahah, but why is it that my cat who was never this affectionate before suddenly is? he never even liked being picked up and now he can sleep in my arms..

small kitten

Posted Sunday October 25 2009, 10:41 pm

I recently found a small kitten that i imagine to be about 4 or 5 weeks old. The mother abandoned it and I brought it home about a week ago. At first I fed it goat's milk, as I am in an area where the kitty formula was not available. So I fed it goat's milk and a mixture of goat's milk and hard food (mushed up) for the first few days, and now I feed her a mixture for a formula I found online (goats milk, egg whites, a touch of oil) as well as wet kitten food. I have been told that by this team she should be willing or at least trying to eat on her own, but I have to practically force feed her with a bottle (she does swallow it on her own though). Also, she sleeps all the time, she doesn't get up and walk around like she did at the beginning...

my dog bit me

Posted Tuesday October 20 2009, 11:39 pm

My dog bit me..well, not so much a bite as a sharp snapping at me. I went to pick him up tonight to bring him upstairs for bed, and he growled (which he always does because he was already half-asleep), but then he totally freaked out and yapped at scratched and bit my ear. And he snapped pretty hard that it drew blood.

My mom didn't notice the blood though, though she checked my ear she just looked at the back.

It just freaked me out a little because my sweet little dog flipped out. Both my parents came in and yelled at him and I had screamed when he bit me so now he won't come near me. =\

My question is this: Should I be worried about the bite? It just drew a little blood. And also, if I do get ...

Chewing on door frams!

Posted Monday October 19 2009, 11:58 pm

My puppy, Glow, will chew on door frames while we are out of the house. We have tried putting a 1x1 over the door frame to deter her, putting hot spices like cyan pepper and tabasco sause on the door, spanking her on the bum and nose, taking her by the head and talking to her (she had this done while she was really little and it made her listen), and of course telling her no or bad in a loud, stern, mean voice. So far nothing has stopped her from either scratching or chewing the door frames. It does not matter wether we leave her for 5 minutes or 5 hours, she still does it. She is almost a year and a half, and we are out of ideas to get her to stop this behavior, please help!

other things we have thought of but not tried yet:...

Feline Herpes Simplex

Posted Monday October 19 2009, 9:56 am

My husband and I have a 14 year old male domestic long hair at home. He is the love of our lives. He is very friendly to people but has no exposure to other animals. I adopted him at 6 months old. Our 14 year old has NEVER been sick except for bladder stones. The CD Cat food controls that fine. He is an indoor cat.

Last week, i went to my vets office for some cat food and came across a 4 month old female (we were originally told it was male) that looked EXACTLY like our male cat at that age with a terrific personality. We fell in love. When we met with the vet and the cat on saturday, we noticed that her eye was cloudy. Turns out that she and her sister, also up for adoption, had contracted feline herpes. The sister lost an e...

How do I persuade my parents to let me adopt a cat?

Posted Sunday October 18 2009, 2:29 pm

My friend has a Siberian kitty she needs to give away or she will have to give the kitty to a shelter that kills (all the no-kill shelters are full, we checked already). How can I persuade my mom to let me keep the kitty for two weeks until I can find a home for it, or let me adopt the cat?

Thanks!

What is the best small pet to own?

Posted Wednesday October 14 2009, 12:29 am

I want to have a pet. I'm not talking about cats or dogs though. I would like a small pet that can be kept in a cage. My parents are divorced and I spend one weekend a month with my dad and would want to take the pet with me.

I'd like a fairly intelligent pet. Something that isn't too smelly would be nice. I have heard things about Chinchillas being cute but I have read plenty of times that they are very fragile. I don't want a fragile pet. Cute isn't REALLY important though.

I can do a few hours of maintenance a day with the pet so if it needs walks or playtime that is just fine with me. A friendly animal would be nice...something that could get used to being held sometimes.

cheap dog houses

Posted Saturday October 3 2009, 2:55 am

I am looking for a cheap dog house for my outside cats (2) this winter. It snows A LOT here and it's our first winter in this sort of climate so I'm worried they will be a little cold, especially since the wind is insane here. I thought about getting them a small to medium sized dog house and tying it down (again, the wind is crazy) somewhere near the house. I already have a heated water dish so I could sit that and their food near the dog house so they didn't have to go out too far if they didn't want to. Everybody says they're cats and they'll get along just fine but I'm still a little worried, you know? Anyway...I was wondering where a decent, cheap dog house was? Walmart? I thought about going to Tractor Supply but am not sure if...

Spirits and Dogs

Posted Friday September 11 2009, 9:49 pm

Hi..

Two weeks ago, my grandfather of 58 passed away due to a massive stroke. It was an extreme shock to the family as he was never ill, it just happened.

He was in a coma for 30 long days before he passed away.

I live with my grandparents and have since I was a child. I'm now 21.

For Christmas 09 my grandparents bought me a puppy, Maltese Shitzu. Girl. We never had inside animals but my grandmother melted at the site of her and allowed her to be an inside dog.

Since my grandfather passed, she has been looking out the back window, she has to climb on the sofa and lean on the arm of the sofa to be able to see outside. She has never done this before and only started wh...
